Justin Deas interview with TV Guide Magazine on end of "GL" and more!

In a new interview with TV Guide’s Michael Logan, Deas discusses his last days on Guiding Light,  his future, his Emmys, his “Mr. Curmudgeon” attitude, (as Logan calls him) and much more.  Here is an exceprt about Buzz marrying Lillian at the end of the shows run and his thoughts on the longest running soaps cancellation!

You are the rare actor in soaps who has maintained his mystique. So let’s ruin that right now! Give me your thoughts on the end of GL.
I don’t watch soaps but I can see why people do. My wife, Margaret, watches them. People like them because they’re comforting, they like having these characters come into their homes. Me, I don’t want any of that. But I can certainly understand the appeal. If the soaps all go off the air, some smart person is going to figure out the right way to do it and bring ’em back. But they’ll have to rethink the form and make it bolder. I mean, we in America still haven’t gotten over our sex hang-ups! The lesbians on our show can’t kiss? What’s wrong with us? There’s a greater chance that GL would have brought in a donkey for Buzz to have sex with. Come to think of it, maybe it would have saved my career.

Were you surprised to end your GL run by getting married?
I think [executive producer] Ellen Wheeler is out of her f—ing mind to give Buzz another wedding. But I adore working with Tina Sloan [Buzz’s new wife Lillian]. That lady is connected! Just name anybody, a famous anything, pick a NASA astronaut, and she just had dinner with him. You talk to her about a great book you’re reading? She’ll say, “Would you like to meet the author?” You’re going to Sweden? She knows the king! I just mentioned to her that I might get a hip replacement—I think the hip will probably be arriving on the set here sometime this afternoon.

Guiding Light Alum Melina Kanakaredes ‘Greek Candy’ Series to Debut on Amazon Streamer ‘IMDb TV’

We all knew her when she played Eleni Andros on the beloved Guiding Light, and two Daytime Emmy nominations later, actress Melina Kanakaredes left the soap for Hollywood, where she has appeared in numerous TV series and motion pictures ever since.

Now, Melina who currently stars on Fox’s hit medical drama, The Resident is set to launch her very own project in which she not only stars, but co-wrote and is one of the executive producers.

According to Deadline, look for Kanakaredes new series ‘Greek Candy’ to hit the new Amazon streaming service, IMDb TV as part of its inaugural launch.

In story, Melina Kanakaredes and her family’s 100-year-old chocolate factory in Akron, Ohio is the inspiration for Greek Candy. The single-camera comedy, from Sony Pictures Television, tells the story of mom, dad, their three teenage daughters, four very Greek immigrant grandparents, and one very non-Greek “adopted” son and what it means to live the American dream in 2021.

Guiding Light’s Michael O’Leary Will Recur on ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime”

Good news today from former Guiding Light star, Michael O’Leary (Ex-Rick Bauer).  He informed his fans via social media that he is continuing on in his role of Father Hogan on the NBC crime series, Law & Order: Organized Crime.

The series airs Thursday’s at 10pm EST/9 pm CST and stars Christopher Meloni reprising his ‘Law & Order’ role of Det. Eliot Stabler, and Dylan McDermott.

O’Leary tweeted: “Law & Order Organized Crime-exciting news! My character ‘Father Hogan’-now recurring! Thrilled to work with Chris Meloni again!”

‘Soap Opera Know-It-All’ Virtual Game Show Debuts

This week, the Michael Fairman Channel dropped the premiere episode of the first-ever virtual soap opera game show, Soap Opera Know-It-All.  

The game features four soap fans from around the country who test their knowledge against each other for prizes and the bragging rights to be the “Ultimate Know-It-All” come seasons end.

With the coronavirus pandemic still among us and life not fully back to normal, the game show is produced and hosted by Michael Fairman that brought fans from different parts of the country together for the kick-off.  They are: Marni Ockene, Floyd Elwell, Nicholas Hess and Gina Patterson.

 

The game is played in two rounds, and the players receive points for each correct answer as they choose questions from 2 game board categories which are all soap operas; either primetime or daytime in a ‘Jeopardy’-like format.

However, come the knock-out round we are left with two players who try to answer the final question from this week’s guest performer, The Young and the Restless‘, Sharon Case (Sharon).  If no one is eliminated, the game goes into “Sudden Death”.

On each new episode, different soap operas will be featured on the game board and/or in different amalgamations, plus you never know just which of your favorite soap stars might pop up!
