Karla Mosley Delivers Emotional Acceptance Speech On The Transgender Community Upon B&B's 10th Consecutive Golden Nymph Award Victory!

Back on June 18th at the 55th Monte Carlo TV Festival in Monaco, The Bold and the Beautiful took home their tenth consecutive international TV audience award in the Telenovela/Soap Opera Category.

B&B cast members: Karla Mosley (Maya Avant), Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy Forrester) and Jacob Young (Rick Forrester) attended the festival in the Principality of Monaco, as guests of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, and were on hand to accept the Golden Nymph Award on the series international achievement.

When the trio took took to the podium to accept the award, it was Karla Mosley who had the honors to speak on behalf of The Bold and the Beautiful, and when she did, she delivered a moving, heartfelt plea that touched upon the plight and the struggles of those in the transgender community, and how through her character of Maya Avant, the CBS Daytime drama is casting a light, and opening a dialogue for this under-represented segment of our population in the media.  Here is what Karla shared to the audience below:

KARLA MOSLEY: “We would be remiss to get up here and accept an audience award and not thank our amazing fans who have been committed; those of you who are new, those of you who have been watching every day for almost 30 years, we thank you, we love you. This truly is an acceptance speech for us. For those of you who don’t know, and this is a spoiler, my character Maya Avant just a few months ago came out as transgender. And we have been blessed with this passionate, complicated beautiful storyline by our writers, and our executive producer Bradley Bell.

As I look out here at all of you so beautiful and talented and intelligent and creative, I can’t help but think how urgent and how important it is that we create content that touches the heart.  And sometimes that’s a laugh, sometimes it’s a tear, and sometimes it’s sparking challenging conversations.  So this is for the 40% of the transgender community who has attempted suicide, as opposed to the 5% of the general population.  This is for the 12-plus transgender people who have been brutally murdered in the United States alone.  And it’s also for hope, it’s for those of you whose story is finally included in our canon, and for those of you parents who just might understand what your child is so desperately trying to tell you.  We love you, we thank you, we are your allies. Merci beaucoup.”

The video of Mosley’s acceptance speech alongside of her castmates, Young and MacInnes Wood, was first posted exclusively on B&B’s UK You Tube Channel on Friday.  Watch the speech after the jump, and then share your thoughts on Karla’s touching moment at the podium.

Beautiful speech. I may not be a fan of Maya, despite her coming out as transgender, but I admire Karla Mosley for tackling such a strong storyline that I’m sure some actresses would have shied away from telling. I applaud Brad Bell for staying cutting edge in his storytelling, and I applaud for Karla for standing up for a community that is continually looked down upon, as if they are not equal.

Karla Mosley is amazing really there are no words she is awesome

Karla continues to amaze and inspire me. Such a beautiful and well-spoken woman.

Wonderful speech.

I thought it was an amazing speech and I love Karla Mosley as an actor although I really don’t care much for her as Maya. I think it’s a very good story line and I’m glad it’s being told but I don’t want to see it exploited. Right now everyone who hated Maya all of a sudden love her because she’s transgender. She still plotted to break-up Caroline & Rick. Showing that everyone loves & accepts her is telling that young boy or girl out there that the moment they tell their families their transgender all will be hugs & kisses. In the real world there would be a whole office against her. Look at Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner as an example.

REPORT: Nicholas Chavez Not Returning to General Hospital

For those who were holding out hope that Daytime Emmy winner and fan favorite, Nicholas Chavez would be returning to General Hospital after filming his leading role in Ryan Murphy’s Monsters anthology, it looks like those hopes have been dashed.

According to a report from TV Line, although unconfirmed from General Hospital or a representative for Chavez, the actor will not reprise his role as Spencer Cassadine on the long-running ABC soap opera and continue the love story of Sprina opposite Tabyana Ali (Trina, GH).

Chavez was cast as Lyle Menendez over the the summer of 2023 for the second season of Murphy’s limited Monsters series on Netflix. In the upcoming season, the series will focus on the the case of Lyle and Erik Menendez, the two well-to-do Beverly Hills brothers accused of murdering their parents in 1989.

After word from Chavez casting was revealed, GH fans were concerned over the fate of the Sprina story, a spokesperson for GH shared,  “We support Nicholas’ endeavors and look forward to having him return to General Hospital once this project is wrapped.”

In story, the series “killed off” Spencer when he went overboard with Esme to the steely waters below after being injected with a drug, thanks to Esme and falling into the Seine River in France. However, his body was never recovered, and believed to have drowned or washed away. Thus, leaving an opening for Spencer to return in the form of Chavez or be recast down the line.

TV Line shared that ‘multiple sources’ are confirming that Chavez is not returning to the ABC soap opera, which is what many had suspected might be the case once he left for this major starring role in a Ryan Murphy project. Chavez has been relatively quiet on social media for months.

The Michael Fairman Channel spoke with Nicholas Chavez for a virtual interview when he first joined the show in 2021, and spoke to him right after when he won the Daytime Emmy in 2022 – you can see those below.

The original Melrose Place aired for seven seasons from 1992 to 1999. The story featured the residents of an apartment complex, whose lives were intertwined. Eventually Wagner and Heather Locklear dated fro 2007-2011.

As previously reported, the new Melrose Place share that some of original neighbors and friends reunite after a death. The loglines add, “The pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective.”
