Katie Couric Guest Spot on GMA First Overnight Ratings! Is ABC testing the waters?

Courtesy/ABC
Katie Couric is guest-hosting (or shall we say co-anchoring) this week on Good Morning America.
Now, according to TV Media Insights, “Based on the Monday metered market results from Nielsen for April 2, Good Morning America featuring the return of Katie Couric to her morning show roots inched past her former home, The Today Show on NBC, by one-tenth of a rating point and one share point in households (3.7 rating/13 share vs. 3.6/12). ”
In addition, “Compared to last year at this time April 2011, Katie on GMA increased by six percent in households, eight percent in women 18-49 and 11 percent among women 25-54. Based on the fast nationals, however, Today topped GMA by 333,000 viewers (5.113 vs. 4.780 million) and 20 percent among key adults 25-54 (1.8 vs. 1.5 rating).”
Given the hype, Katie’s initial performance on GMA could have rated higher. But the week is young and so it will be interesting to see how the ratings week works itself out, and if ABC is testing the waters here with Katie as they gear up to bring her syndicated talker to most all of the ABC affiliates in September of 2012 in General Hospital’s current timeslot.
Have you checked out Katie on Good Morning America? Any interest? Let us know!
I usually watch GMA for Robin Roberts, but this morning I watched something totally different. Don’t even remember what it was.. I Love Lucy? Something like that lol… I’m not a Katie fan, never have been…..
Christi, I love Lucy is better then katie couric lol…Im not a fan of k c either.
lol I totally agree.. watched Lucy again this morning lol
I keep my local channel on to get the news ,they stay on till 10 so my news is covered.I havent watched I love Lucy in a while think I will give it a try for a change lol.
Shows like I LOVE LUCY never get old. Instead of the morning garbage talk shows I am enjoying PETTICOAT JUNCTION. I wasn’t even born when it aired, but I love it now.
who really cares about katie couric. she is really annoying. nobody in there right mind will watch her talk show in september. please renew general hospital. enough already cancel the stupid revolution. that dr maria is an air head lol
I LOVE the REVOLUTION you should watch it you might learn something?
Wow Cher, you had the the GUTS to admit U like the Revolution on this site….. I commend you, bc sometimes your email will flood up with responses. And so you are rightfully intitled to your opionion about the show. I saw that show the first time last week when Tony Braxton was on, (fliping through the channels), but I didn’t keep it on. Tony looked fabulous. I went to see her while I was in Vegas a few years ago. In terms of learning something, well perhaps Ur right, but I have learned allot of that jiberish on Oprah over the years. I’m surprise that U love the Revolution, oppose to ” liking” it, however? I don’t think the show has produces works of “love”.
Youre joking right? No one is watching that horrible sh**. Bring back One Life To Live.
Are you for real…The Revolution………It replaced my faviorite soap OLTL….And i have no intetrest what so ever to watch this crappy show…I don’t want to learn how to make wallpaper from children’s art…………Are you a soap fan????????? Doesn’t sound like it to me by that remark……….Do you have any loyalty for the soaps…………The Revolution will never last 43years or more..I hope it is cancelled in sept. and relaced with GENERAL HOSPITAL !!!!!!! I TOTALLY DISAGREE with coment on 4/4 at 2:39pm…I wouldn’t give that crap the time of day..The Revolution isn’t entertainment…It’s pure reality/info crap…………..I will stick with my stories….Again, can’t believe you said that on this web site where everyone is totally against that show if you can call it that..Soap fans don’t watch The Revolution…It took away OLTL ..That show can’t compare with OLTL..And it doesn’t evencome close..It couldn’t !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!This web site is for soap fans….
The Revolution: How to extend the life of your refrigerator…REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!! I don’t want to learn stupidity like this………………..
Seriously,You LOVE the revolution?.WE may learn something,WHAT ,how to dress ,how to eat,how to loose weight and the list goes on,thats all common sense I dont need 5 idots to tell me how to live my life .Dont count on the revolution staying on to much longer it is a abc/disney failure ,So where ever people hang out that lost talk shows ,reality, food,Im insecure I need help shows go,you better start communicating with them now ,because the show that you LOVE is on its way out the door just like the shows that I loved for over 43 years are gone.
i would rather google anything i want to know rather than watch that farce of a show…………..
I can’t understand why anyone would even consider watching that LOUSY reality/info thing………Everyone is against that show… The revolution is boring….I never will watch this crap…Plus the ratings are so bad & will be cancelled soon!!!!!!!!!!!! And I hope GH will be put in it’s place…I wish it was OLTL but, that will never happen…….And I agree with comment on 4/5 at 6:37am…Read my comments about the revolution it STINKS somethinf AWFUL…………..This person who likes the revolution , is she a soap fan or not….Soap fans don’t make comments that.. What I read on this web site… I don’t need to be talked to death…I can learn from the dicitionary & encylopedia…Not interested in learning how to extend the life of my refrigerator….It’s a MORON PROGRAM………..One last thing : you could learn something from The Revolution and here it is: making unhealthy dishes healthier !!!!!!!!!!WOW!!!!!!!!!! I always wanted to know that!!!!! PLEASE… Give me a BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This show insults your intelligence…It’s on the same level of KINDERGARTEN Not past 5th grade……..And I won’t ever watch Katie Couric…
I would sooner gargle with shards of glass, than watch The Revolution!! I have not one second of The Chew or The Revolution….and plan on throwing a party, when one of them, if not both get cancelled.
Learn what? IMO these people are NOT qualified nor do the have the necessary credentials to give this kind of advise, let alone be on network TV. Tim Gunn has a BFA in sculpture, Ty Pennington has a “diploma” in art. Jennifer Ashton is only an Ob-Gyn . Harley Pasternak is a “celebrity” trainer. Tiffanie Davis does have a doctoral degree, but in human sexuality education. IMO they are out of their depth trying to do this kind of show. There are some many other, more qualified people they could have put on this show. Plus, it’s become an informercial and ad for Macy’s.
Ricardo,You are so right.that show is a mess and needs to go.and your also right about DR. airhead. And katie couric is a waste of abc/disney money that could have gone to supporting the soaps.
Torrey you made my night!! I freekin’ hate those replacement shows and I’ve NEVER EVEN watched them. I was watching GH today and all I can say is I really miss OLTL. I hope the party is soon! These shows are beyond insulting and stupid!!
“I would sooner gargle with shards of glass, than watch The Revolution!! I have not one second of The Chew or The Revolution….and plan on throwing a party, when one of them, if not both get cancelled.”
That’s a great way to sum it up, ABC/Disney have been wasting their money on The Chew, The Revolution, money that could have been invested in the soaps. Good grief, where is the value in those two shows and what kind of a fan club could Katie have compared to the loyal AMC and OLTL viewers? I can’t even stand to watch a commercial for these new ABC shows, no less ever watch a minute of one. The Chew is the most pitiful thing. The show is about cooking and baking junk food, from the commercials it looks like half the hosts on it are overweight, Americans need no education in how to eat unhealthy and become overweight. Good grief. Who dreamed that show up and thought it could replace AMC? They need to do more drug testing of those ABC executives that are in charge of programming decisions.
I agree with comment 0n 4/5 at 6;42am…Katie is getting big bucks to be on abc…And abc’s comment that the soaps are too expensive to make… But they can afford the BIG BUCKS for Katie Couric..(HMMMMMMM) Figure that one out…………………..They are hpyocrites…..Double standard………….AbC is full of CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!! They are such liars….
I miss Robin! Don’t like Katie never have…
gma has been the only morning show i have watched in years – after 15 minuets on monday i had to change the channel because i just couldn’t stand watching katie – i’ll return when robin roberts comes back next week…………..
I’ll return when Robin Roberts comes back too..
Can’t stand Katie! Why does everyone think she is so great? I don’t get it. I’m watching right now and she already messed up in an interview with a Texas tornado victim.
That smile makes me want to gag!
me to.
Not interested in Katie Couric.. I wouldn’t watch her if she was the program on the T. V.She is BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To say the least………………
Correction last program on the t.v. I rather read a book than watch her……..
Id rather do anything then watch katie couric.what a shame that abc/disney has destroyed there daytime programming ,they have gone cheap ,But I hear they are paying katie couric 20 million, she is not worth that, money could have gone to the soaps.I also heard that disney paid 200 million for a movie and dropped it ,200 million could have kept the soaps on for years .waste.
This is no surprise to me the woman couldnt do the cbs evening news she sunk the ratings there still trying to recover, what really makes me happy about this is abc/disney, I hope all the big wigs are scratching there heads and wondering ,what the hell happened? well I will tell you what happened, all my children, one life to live ,and soap net were canceled your threatening to cancel general hospital, you wont give agnus nixon the rights back to her stories so we can continue to watch them hopefully at another network ,The soap fans have left the building and they are not coming back till the soap problem is fixed, can you hear us now?NO to the chew,NO to the revolution ,and NO to katie couric,I hope she has another bad day today just like I do when 2 oclock comes along and my favorite soap isnt there anymore, and when general hospital comes on I am in fear of loosing that soap to.Abc/disney/the rat channel, fix the soap problem We want our soaps back and will continue to boycott all your crappy new shows until something is done,By ignoring the soap fans it doesnt help you it makes everything worse ,FIX THE Soap problems bring back abc/disney to #1,admit defeat.
YOU GO GIRL!!! Every single word you say is true & I agree. Midday is soap time, period. Always has been, always should be. ABC needs to “man up”, admit their mistakes & MAKE IT RIGHT.
They are not doing any good for there network by ignoring the soap fans ,they should hire some people to teach abc/disney how to treat people ,Did they really think that one day they would cancel the soaps then the next day we will tune in to see what the rat channel put in its place?abc/disney/the rat channel should learn how to respect the soap fans that made them #1 in the day time for many decades.
i co-sign this post!!
Thanks ethal.
Barbara T, it’s your friend from Canada.. and you could not have said it better !
I just hope ABC pays attention to all this.
Thanks brian.I do hope abc has spies and they come here and read all the posts .
Not watching Katie anywhere until I know the fate of GH. Not a big fan of hers anyway
I’m not a katie fan or a talk show fan. I don’t watch any of these type shows.
Katie Couric should stay on theToday Show & stay on NBC……..She is better off staying there…….
Why is Katie Couric getting big money for her lousy show…And ABC complains that the soaps cost a lot of money to make….They ar so full of it….They say one thing and do another……….Our soaps are worth the money not Katie Couric…Who has been fired and re-hired somewhere else…She doesn’t have a vey good track record…She will NEVER last 43 years or more!!!!!!!!!!! She had a bunch of failures on the t.v.. She is headed for another one this sept…She won’t last…………I will never watch her…
She will be getting more money then what she is worth, she doesnt have a good track record ,when she took over the cbs news the ratings dropped big time they never recovered.susan m ,your right she will never last 43 years.I wont watch her either and I hope she sinks big in the ratings,If general hospital is canceled shes doomed.
We are watching GMA this week. Have been Today show followers but switched because of Katie.
I think she is doing a great job so far. She is a keeper for that position. KC @2:00 should be cancelled.
I agree, I watched it this morning and she was right on point, a PERFECT fit. I don’t see her as talk show material.
I agree with you……………..
Debi,Dorian is going to cheat on David ,are you kidding me? where did you read that ?noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo that cant happen ,our characters from landview have to live happily ever after, unless they move to port charles, you really heard that david shows up ? I have to hit all the soap sights and see .Your right Katie @ 2 or 3 cancelled,I dont have to watch to know that woman should not get a talk show, who is she kidding she can never replace all the drama of general hospital.
You can say that again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She is just way to perky for my taste.
She doen’t do anthing for me…..Never ever watched her….
I never really watched her either when I did see or hear her she annoys me.and I dont think she is good enough for a talk show.Like debi says let her stay were she is this week,And I really dont want to see her before or after general hospital, then again I only watch gh so who cares, I will start complaining if general hospital gets cancelled because of her.
I can understand why ABC gave Katie Couric this GMA assignment, but GMA belongs to Robin Roberts. In fact, having Katie on makes me turn off GMA this week… but that does not mean I have turned to TODAY. In fact, I am giving CBS a try.
CBS is happenings in the morning. That new co-host seems to have some humor and a rapport.
Quit watching GMA over a year ago———don’t like Katie ———won’t watch her no matter what show she is on.
I am very sorry to say this about anyone, but Katie has the most grating, obnoxious voice I have ever heard! That twang and the timbre of her voice combine to make me cringe when she speaks and shut off the sound. If ABC is checking her out for ratings, that is a flat fail! Can’t wait for this week to be over now.
Thats ok Martha ,she makes me cringe to,her voice and other things ,I think she is annoying.I will never have to turn off the sound because I will never watch anything she is on .
I happen to be a Today Show follower, and was sad when Katie left, so I did turn on GMA for a bit just to see how she was doing on Monday morning, and I thought she was doing a great job. I find her to be a much better fit for daytime TV than the evening news, as it seems as though it comes more naturally to her to do the “chat” thing, interviewing people, and just being perky and upbeat, as opposed to the seriousness that comes with doing the evening news. That being said, I did go back to the Today Show again after the first day, and most importantly, as much as I enjoy Katie in daytime TV & do believe she has what it takes to do an afternoon talk show, if this new show takes my beloved GH out of the line-up, I WILL NOT be tuning in to her show at all, and that is a definite, just like I have never and will never watch The Chew or The Revolution.
Amen on the GH front! I hope ABC reads these boards. All those talk shows are less than nothing; I will not watch either and if GH goes off, that’ll be it for ABC for me. There won’t be anything else I’d watch on there. I’d rather listen to re-re-runs of CSI or Law ‘n’ Order–
Listens to re-runs, lmao. Now that’s a statement I haven’t heard on this post.
I watch the I d channel, and I listen to it to.I like the company and there voices.and hearing that the bad guys get caught is always a bonus. If general hospital and days of our lives get cancelled I go to b&b and the young and the restless,I think, but all the other times the I.D channel will be on.
I haven’t watched GMA since Diane Sawyer left. I really like CBS with Charlie Rose et al. I am boycotting ABC/Disney due to the cancellation of OLTL and AMC. Still watch GH, but that”s all I watch on ABC. Never liked Katie Couric so she won’t change my viewing habits.
Looks like sarah palin is beating katie couric in the ratings game.the conservative veruses the rats new mouth piece , wonder who will win tomorrow?
I always thought Katie Couric had a good rapport with Matt Lauer and Al Roker. IF, and it is a big, IF, I watched a morning news/talk show, it was the TODAY show. I preferred that over GOOD MORNING AMERICA after Joan London left. That was until the stupid TODAY show decided to air the video of the killer in the Virginia Tech massacre. I know they were given permission by the FBI to show it, but to me it was a very heartless thing to do to the victims’ families and, for that reason, I will never watch them again.
As for Katie Couric and any talk show, I don’t watch and I won’t watch. I am beyond all that garbage. I don’t watch the local news either. I can’t stand shows like ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT and TMZ. I don’t watch DR. PHIL or DR. OZ either. If I want to hear about so-called celebrities or about the latest and greatest cure for this and that I can read about it online where I get the majority of my news. And I can get my weather online without seeing some bimbo in a mini skirt and top cut down to there presenting it to me.
I really hope that the landscape of television can change some day … soon. Why do the soaps need to go? Stupid talk shows just keep cropping up. What is there to talk about?
Garbage, to answer your question, propoganda, and getting ALL up in people’s business. Notice how people in the news (especially) when they are going through a crisis, they ask for privacy? Hypocrisy.
I don’t think Kati was THIS disliked, prior to her entering the ABC daytime line-up. Her show is doomed. The best ABC should do, is bring back those shows for a half hour each. That lower’s cost, and salaries. That’s meeting Fans HALFWAY. And then they STILL have a extra hour for The Chew, which SOME people seem to like.
I can’t understand how anyone could like The Chew….I never watch it and never will…..I don’t want to learn how to make fish tacos…I never watch cooking shows………….Not even once……………………….
Katie is an EPIC FAIL!!!!!
Uh oh ,this is bad katie couric is catching up to the today show, this is not good ,unless she stays on the good morning america show and forgets the talk show,Not going to happen, also On the bad side of things abc/disney is going up in the ratings .who watches the morning shows ? I dont .but if your going to watch a morning show watch cbs or nbc, hello ,we are trying to sink the ratings for abc/disney if everyone is taking sneak peeks we arent going to sink the rat channel.Remember they cancelled our beloved one life to live and all my children.
Well this is one little mouse you don’t have to count in the “we” column because our family DITCHED our satellite. We only get what comes through on the antenna so we are not checking out ANYTHING Disney.
General Hospital is the only show that is watched on ABC around here. If only I could erase the previews from my mind too. I can fast forward them, but I still see them. Oh well. They won’t be getting my eyeballs.
It’s the best time to make a few plans for the future and it’s time to be happy. I have read this publish and if I may I wish to recommend you few fascinating things or suggestions. Perhaps you can write next articles regarding this article. I want to read more issues about it!

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
