Keith D. Robinson Makes His Debut As Dr. Ted Richardson on ‘Beyond the Gates’: What Were Your First Impressions?

The first recast in the history of Beyond the Gates finally made it to air, when on the Thursday, May 15th episode of the CBS daytime drama series, Keith D. Robinson made his debut in the role of Dr. Ted Richardson replacing Maurice Johnson, who had played the part since the soap premiered back on February 24 of this year.

Robinson’s first episode put him right into the thick of things in Ted’s frontburner story. Keith’s first scenes were with his on-screen daughter Colby Muhammed (Kat) where Ted tries to explain how he ended up having an affair years ago with Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant). Ted also shares he thought Leslie was using protection, and he never thought or knew, she was pregnant with his child.

Later, Ted comes to see Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett), who has summoned him to his legal firm after Bill received a threatening visit from Leslie. Bill warns Ted that Leslie is not done trying to tear people’s lives apart. In his last scene in his first episode, Robinson appeared with his on-screen nephew, Andre played by Sean Freeman.

Throughout, it was a noticeable difference on Robinson’s take on the character, where at first glance he seems to giving the audience a more human and emotional side to the character as opposed to Johnson’s more stoic version.

Taking to his Instagram on his debut on Beyond the Gates, Keith revealed moments from his first day of shooting a few months back. He also expressed that he thought his acting career had passed before landing this gig. More recently, Robinson has been concentrating on his singing talents.

Courtesy/CBS

Keith shared, “This was my first day of shooting. The road getting to this particular gig was a long and bumpy one. Tbh so much so believe it or not I had made peace with the fact that maybe my days in front of the camera were perhaps winding down and God was leading me elsewhere. Any artists who’s been in this game as long as I have has felt this. So needless to say this one means alot. To my fellow cast and crew I wanna say thank you for being so warm and welcoming it means alot. To Daphnee Duplaix, my fellow castmates (so many to name), Sheila Ducksworth, Julie Carruthers, Kim Coleman. the CBS, Beyond the Gates, Paramount+  family, thank you for seeing me. And to every creative that reads this I implore you to continue to complete your mission. Your gifts and talents are needed. Rest if you must but don’t give up.”. . . .Sincerely “Ted” a.k.a. Keith D. Robinson. . .”

Now with nuTed firmly in place, viewers have already been suspecting that perhaps, Leslie’s “daughter” Eva (Ambyr Michelle) is possibly the twin sister of Kat? Did Nicole (Daphnee Duplaix) have twins? Did Leslie? We know that Nicole had a history of miscarriages before Kat was born. Is there more to this story? Stay tuned.

What were your first impressions of Keith D. Robinson as Dr. Ted Richardson on Beyond the Gates? Are you going to give him a chance to put his own stamp on the role, as you have done for numerous recasts throughout daytime soap history? Share your thoughts via the comment section.

He did quite well; he’s more emotive than his predecessor, and I think that’ll suit the role more moving forward. He worked well with everyone he worked with yesterday and cannot wait to see more as we move forward.

You must be looking at someone different from the actor that I am seeing. For me the new guy is flat.

Right!

I agree Scott. Didn’t do it for me.

Thank you captain obvious.

I agree. BUT, he is new and we’ll see as time goes on. At first sight, he seems too young for the role and not a match to stand up to that evil Leslie character. I am sooo happy this soap has been extended for another season. Right now, the extension is just for one more. Let’s make it an extension for several more. If you can’t watch it at it’s scheduled airing time, please DVR it. Please give it your viewing rating time for the Nielsen ratings. The show has good product sponsorship and the products are in full display during the show. Let’s support the sponsors also by purchasing their products. Come on. Let’s throw our support behind this new endeavor. Please and thank you.

Not a fan of the new Ted. Not a fan of Thursday’s storyline with Ted inviting Leslie to Eva’s gathering…it isn’t realistic and after all the chaos Leslie caused, why is Ted having any convos with her when he needs to reconcile with his wife of umpteen yrs….where is that storyline?!?!

Agreed!

Totally agree!!!

I totally agree. Leslie should be run out of town, not invited to anything. And Ted should never interact with Leslie, especially without someone else around and most definitely should never go to her residence. That did throw me.

I agree with you, A woman a wife liked to be chases, Ted did not go after Nichole instead inviting Lesley to her daughter birthday party , Guyes. Get with it. 1st a DNA test, 2. Take Leslie at face value, check the facts before the party . Ted don’t know how to act, win back his Nichole, they both are doctors, reach out he don’t know to sleep in her front door pleading his case it’s hard for her the lies, and character he was playing because he was guilty NOT Sure of his Love ❤️.

Joke on me I caught on quickly my now husband was very much in love with me hold me talking face to face. I wonder why every time ok mad love ❤️ get to find out 6 months later he was Deaf. Ok

I loved him I helped him to get baiting aids and not be scared it is what it is, he is still sweet in . Nichole runs the show Ted need to step it up Please

I think it is realistic inviting Leslie..Ted has always been the bigger person. I wanted to give the new Ted the Benefit if the doubt but he has big shoes to fill. I think he looks too young for the role

Totally agree!

If the Real Dr. Ted went to visit leslie, he has the character and the eyes to pull that Trick!!!

Nope; I know exactly who I am looking at and referring to, thank you.

BTG really need to get The
real Dr.Ted BACK.

I agree, he did quite well. Looking forward to more!!

That’s because he’s following a script.

Okay, and? So was Maurice Johnson, and Robinson did ten times better at it.

I agree!

I really was becoming a Fan of Maurice’s but willing to accept Keith

You liked Maurice J??? His constant shoulder shake movement when talking was a distraction when delivering his lines

THE NEW DR. TED IS A HUGH DISSAPOINTMENT !!!!

This is the the best show ever, I truly love it!

I like it a lot, too but could do without the Tide and Febreeze ads during the show. Distracting and tacky. Stop it!

They are co-sponsors so they need to be in there!

He has no swagger.

Exactly! Doesnt fit tbis character role

Not really feeling him , very disappointed in how they let Maurice go. He may be a good actor but not for this role here. Please BRING MAURICE BACK

Im not sure they let Maurice go. Perhaps he had other obligations.

Absolutely agree. He had a dull look and does not fit the role. Maurice was more handsome and sophisticated as a man of a Dupree woman should be.

I agree!!!!!!

YES,,,,,PLEASE!!!!!!!!

I was getting use to Maurice and now i saw Keith and I like what i saw so far and I’m going to keep watching because the other actors are my favorites on the show

He has a big shoes to follow! Because he is no way as good as Maurice Johnson

Agree.

the new Dr. Ted has the look that fits a drugdealer/thug role, NOT a professional
swagger look that THE REAL Dr. Ted has.

Great acting job
His delivery was fluent, natural and believable.
Prior roles as a cheater probably came in handy.
Happy that your acting career is not over.

I’m used to the former Ted, but I’ll give the new Ted a little grace. He looks a little younger, and I see the age difference between him and Nicole

It’s funny because IRL, Keith and Daphnée were born the same year!

Agree on the mismatch of him in replacement of Maurice. His appearance as I stated before, makes him seem too young for this role.

Keith was great he will do well !!!

Never cared for his acting and my feeling have not changed. Wish they had cast a stronger personality.

Agree

he has a thug look, not a refined Doctor look like the REAL Dr. Ted has

Keith Robinson is a great actor, however I feel his look is too youthful for this particular role.

What about the turtle necks they’ll be missed because only the #1 Teddy and THE Teddy Pendergrass could pull those off .

You got that right. Ted was fine, chocolate. Bring back Maurice please

Not feeling this ted

He did a great job yesterday and today. He has even managed to mimic some of Maurice’s mannerisms. I’m Team Ted (Maurice and Keith). Most of all, I’m all for ensuring that all these great actors remain employed because I support US.

Yesss!

Preferred the first Ted! Miss him!

Totally agree.

We are watching and supporting BTG. We were more familiar with the actor playing Ted. We will support Keith. Our assessment is that he looks to young to be Martin’s father. Sorry that seems off. The writing of Ted inviting Leslie (she just should have showed up without the invite like she always does) didn’t seem believable. Congratulations on receiving the Green light for Season 2

YESSSS!

No, Martin looks too old to play BOTH Teds son.

I think Keith( whom i’ve met ) did a good job for his first appearance. He has BIG shoes to fill. It’s not fair to criticize his performance just yet. Although I miss Maurice( whom was my favourite) I understand how “ The industry” works. I also believe we haven’t seen the last of Maurice.

He was ok!

I love Keith but not in this role. He looks odd as Ted. He would have been better in another role. Maurice owned Dr Ted Richardson please bring him back

It is like a sore I have and I want the doctor to remove it , but he,s a alright actor

He may a good fit for a different role but definitely not for this one. He doesnt project or look the part of the polished Ted character at all.

I think the new Ted is a great fit with the cast especially the scene with his daughter was really good and not overly delivered. He seems relatable. Best of luck in the role!

The new guy did not due it for me was very disappointed when I didnt see the first Ted, He was more sexy, conservative, gentle and fit in with Nicole conservative personality and her family.

I don’t t like him as Ted i wish I had the old ted back

Eva is Ted’s brothers(r.i.p.) daughter, and Dana/Leslie somehow got pregnant by him instead.
Knowing this she was going to present to Ted “his new baby” after Dana somehow ended his brother and sister in law.

Didn’t like old Ted, overacting, arrogant, new Ted is mellow, humbled.

He’s a hard sell. We loved TED.

Sorry but he just doesn’t fit in this role

I didn’t like the change, but I’ll give him a chance. IMO Maurice brought a more stern and fatherly demeanor to the rule, whereas Keith seems like he can be one of Martin friends or co-workers. I’m here for it, though. After a few episodes it’ll work out as with ALL soaps:-)

Not a fit for this role. Looks like a younger smaller guy, more like Andre than Ted. Too young looking for Nicole. Doesn’t look like a cheater, like Maurice did. Lol

The re-cast is not working well for me. The original Ted (Maurice Johnson) had more style, presence and appeal. Why was there a re casting. The switch is strange and changes the dynamics of the show.

We have to be patient and give him a chance to grow into the role. Mr Robinson did quite well.

No ma’am

The last guy was better

I like Keith as an actor…but not for this role. We need Maurice to come back. Keith should’ve been a love interest for Dani.

I don’t like new guy for that part

Please bring Maurice Johnson back. He fits the role much better.

I think he did a great job for his first day we just got to get used to him because we were used to the other actor I think he’ll do well

I’m sorry but I like the old Ted he just doesn’t have that look.

Like the old Ted he was sexy and had fire and this new one is dull the old Ted was a sharp dresser he not the Dupree women type please bring back old Teddy boo

I am so sorry but the new Ted does not do it for me. Too calm, not enough fire in the role. Old Ted please.

But inviting Leslie/Dana to a gathering WTW not a good twist.

I wonder when the new Ted will share a scene with Nicole. Interesting that the directors are waiting a few days. I will give him a chance but I want to see scenes with Nicole and Martin. Maurice was so handsome with a great voice. But Keith looks older, so he could be Martin’s dad.

The son Martin looks older than the new Ted and he’s not aggressive enough like the old Ted. I really liked Keith Robinson on Saint s and Sinners though but not this role on Beyond the Gates.

In my opinion, Maurice Johnson fits the “Ted Richardson” character better. Keith Robinson should have been offered another role. He is a good actor, but just not for this role.

I have to get used to him , it was a big Bomb shell drop , especially in the middle of a big seen moment at this time , it was the wrong time to make that change , it will take me a minute , this is crazy to do that.

He looks to young to play the role of Ted.

I read that this new Ted is actually 4 years older than Maurice. Maurice is 46, new Ted, Keith is apparently 49…still looks younger if this is true.

I prefer the original Ted! He represented physical & mental strength! He’s also gorgeous!

I’m going to give him a chance. I thought he was excellent!!

He did a good job. The first Ted did good as well.

They should have kept the first actor. He was much better

Keith Robinson is definitely a better fit for Ted’s role. He is doing great.

I liked the old Ted better

Not feeling 5he new Ted, He looks too young, sounds too young. Bring back the old Ted. Nobody can fill those turtle necks like th old Ted.

With all due respect, Mr. Robinson is a great actor, but he’s not the man for this particular role. Maurice Johnson had a presence about him. He was large and in charge, but Mr. Robinson just doesn’t fill the screen literally and figuratively. He’s not the one for this role.

BEYOND THE GATES Preview: Andre’s Blast From The Past Is Set To Turn His Life Upside Down

Andre

On Beyond the Gates, Andre Richardson’s (Sean Freeman) “happily” married life to Dani Dupree (Karla Mosley) is about to be tested like never before on upcoming episodes of the CBS soap opera the week of August 17-21.

After the shocking reveal on the Friday, August 14 cliffhanger, viewers learned that the person who was sending Andre ominous text messages is none other than The Impaler herself, Heather Armstrong (Ashley Jones). Clearly from the latest promo for the action at the Bowman hotel and in and around Fairmont Crest (see below), Andre knows Heather quite well, as she makes moves on him.

While all this is going down, Dani tries to diffuse the Dupree family for thinking there is anything going on between her and her ex-husband, Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett). Dani’s behavior over Bill being in the hospital has been of someone who is still deeply in love with the guy (specially because of her very public outbursts) and as viewers know, she recently had sex with her ex in the elevator at the country club during a tornado!

HEATHER ARMSTRONG IS ON THE HUNT FOR ANDRE

Poor Andre has no idea about the elevator liaison, and recently visited Bill in his hospital room to tell him to stay away from his wife, when and if he gets out of his hospital bed! But now, the tables may be turned, if Heather gets her claws into Andre.

Tamara Tunie Opens Up About ‘Beyond the Gates’ Co-Star Clifton Davis Emmy Snub, and Her ‘Bittersweet’ Nomination Upon Scott Bryce’s Death

Published

By

Clifton Davis, Tamara Tunie, Scott Bryce

Beyond the Gates scored 15 Daytime Emmy nominations, the best-ever showing for a series entering the Daytime Emmy race in history for the first time. Among those 15 nominations came the news of the well-deserved nod for Tamara Tunie as Outstanding Lead Actress for her role of Anita Williams Dupree.

Tunie is nominated in the Lead Actress category along with her TV daughter, Karla Mosley (Dani Dupree). For both actresses, this marks their first Daytime Emmy nominations.

However, one of the main actors on the show, Clifton Davis, who plays Anita’s husband, Vernon Dupree, did not make the list for the Lead Actor finalists.

Photo: CBS

CLIFTON DAVIS TOOK LEAD ACTOR OMISSION ‘LIKE A CHAMP’

In a talk with Gold Derby, Tunie addressed the omission by sharing, awards are a “dice roll from year to year.” She shared she hopes in 2027 Davis will get his due. Tamara offered up Clifton’s reaction to not being amongst the cast going for gold on October 30, the night of the Daytime Emmys in Hollywood.

“There were several other people who were overlooked, not just Clifton, and it’s all with a grain of salt, and it’s not a reflection on the work in any way, shape, or form,” the veteran actress explained. “Oftentimes, as we know in this business, there are other considerations and things that happen. Some votes may cancel out other votes, and it just doesn’t mean anything. It doesn’t diminish that he’s a legend, and he always will be. He took it like a champ. He’s been doing this long enough to understand that it doesn’t reflect the work at all.”

JOY MIXED WITH SORROW AFTER THE PASSING OF AS THE WORLD TURNS’ SCOTT BRYCE

In addition to the joy of scoring her long overdue Emmy nomination, Tunie also experienced incredible sorrow. The night before the Daytime Emmy nominations were revealed for Lead Actress on Monday, July 13, came the news that Tamara’s longtime friend and As the World Turns co-star, Scott Bryce, has lost his battle with cancer at the age of 68.

It was gut-punch to Tamara’s soul. She recalled, “He was my brother. I was so heartbroken and low, and then the announcement came that I was nominated, and it lifted my spirits tremendously. At the same time, it was bittersweet and poignant, because I know that Scotty would have been the first one to pick up the phone and call me.”

Bryce appeared as Craig Montgomery on the CBS soap opera from 1982–1991, 1993–1994, and 2007–2008. Tamara Tunie played Jessica Griffin from 1987 to February 1995, 1999 -2007, and one final appearance in 2009.

To honor her beloved friend, while Tunie was not able to attend Scott’s Celebration of Life service in Connecticut on July 25, she did write a beautiful tribute that was read during the memorial to the attendees.

TAMARA TUNIE’S DAYTIME-EMMY NOMINATED REEL SCENE SELECTIONS

Tamara also shared what scenes were on her nominated reel which includes: “Anita doing a rap, Anita being her own female impersonator, and Anita in what I call my Michael Corleone moment, when Dani has shot up the wedding and she comes into the house and I say, ‘Is this my daughter I see before me? How dare you!'”

In addition, Anita’s cancer journey is also part of the reel. Tunie explained how she was able to play the story which suc poignancy. “I have loved ones who have been on that cancer journey. Some survived, some did not. I was able to pull a lot of emotional information because of my experiences with loved ones.”

So, do you feel Clifton Davis was a definite Lead Actor Daytime Emmy snub? Are you rooting for Tamara to pick up the gold statuette given the heartbreaking loss of Scott Bryce and the scenes on her nominated reel? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
