Kelly Clarkson Opens Up on Moving Her Talk Show to New York City: “It’s Either I’m Not Going to be Able to Continue the Show or I Gotta Go East Coast”

Photo: NBCUniversal

Kelly Clarkson told producers of her daytime talk show back in January that she has to head to the east coast starting in the fall, or there wouldn’t be any show to come back to.

In an interview promoting her upcoming new album Chemistry, Clarkson spoke to Nancy O’Dell for the TalkShopLive series.

During the conversation she shared a few more details on what led to this move.  Kelly shared how she spoke to the execs at her show and at NBC, relating, ‘Guys, I need you to know what’s happening. It’s either I’m not going to be able to continue the show or I gotta go East Coast.”

Elaborating further, the Grammy Award-winning singer shared: “Covid, pointed out (that) being isolated and so far from your family, that’s not good for anyone.  My family is East Coast, they’re North Carolina based. So, it was one of those things where I just had to … and also there was a lot of personal things going on, too.”  Those personal things include her recent divorce from Brandon Blackstock back in the summer of 2022, raising her kids and more.

Kelly went on to say that the move to the Big Apple was all her idea, citing, “It as 100 percent my idea and it was really cool that NBC backed me because I was like, ‘Y’all, I love doing this show. I really do. I didn’t even know I would but I gotta make a change for me and my family. Any chance we could do this? I know we can’t do this from my ranch so any chance we could do it in New York … it’s at least closer to my family … that was really the main reason.”

During the chat with O’Dell, Clarkson admitted she is not really into pursuing motion picture and TV roles in Los Angeles anyway, but she does enjoy the stage and when in New York she is closer to the theatre. The Daytime Emmy Award winner also noted that she is working on various other projects.  Might we see Kelly on Broadway in 2024 or 2025? Stay tuned.

Clarkson’s show recently came under fire earlier this month when former and current employees claimed that it fosters a toxic work environment, something Kelly pledges she will make sure in the future that people that work for her show won’t ever feel that way again.

The talk show host addressed the allegations a few weeks ago, and noted changes are coming behind the scenes.  Kelly expressed, “Part of that build will include leadership training for all of the senior staff, including myself. There is always room to grow and ensure we are all being/becoming the best versions of ourselves in any business, especially when it comes to leadership. To ensure that any notion of toxicity is eradicated.”

So, what do you think about Kelly’s move to New York to be closer to her family, Broadway and more? Will the show have a different feel to it next season? Comment below.

Love you Kelly.

Kelly can do it all, talented singer and talk show host. Love you Kelly Clarkson.

Need more soaps and less talk shows. But Wake up and move to the ATL. East coast and close to NC.

Writers Strike Comes to an End; Leadership Votes To Conclude Work Stoppage

It’s over! After 148 days, the 2023 Writers strike will go down as the second longest in WGA union history, only a labor stoppage in 1988 was longer.

The strike will officially come to end on Wednesday at 12:01am PT.  This was due to a vote from the guild’s leadership that now has authorized its over 11,500 members to return to work.

That means: pitching and selling scripts, taking meetings, responding to notes, writers’ rooms opening up again, and more, can now restart.

The WGA committee shared that the vote, “Allows writers to return to work during the ratification process, but does not affect the membership’s right to make a final determination on contract approval.” However, WGA East and West voted unanimously to lift the “restraining order” on Tuesday.

As the negotiators shared, the end of the strike doesn’t mean that the tentative agreement that the union reached with producers on Sunday night is a surefire thing: Union members still need to vote to ratify the contract. Union leadership announced on Tuesday that will take place between October 2nd and October 9th.

However, SAG-AFTRA still remains on strike. So, even with the writers returning to work, many productions can’t move forward without their principal actors and performers.

So soap fans, how do you feel about this news for your favorite shows? Glad that the head writers and their writing teams will be back at work as soon as this week from Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and The Bold and the Beautiful? Y&R’s Josh Griffith, who previously had gone Fi-Core during the 2008 strike, remained at the top rated show during the last several months.

It’s Official! Former AEW Champ Jade Cargill Signs with WWE

All the reports and the rumors have been confirmed. Former AEW TBS Women’s champion, Jade Cargill has signed a new multi-year contract, but with rival WWE.

Cargill, who was AEW’s longest-reigning TBS champion and wrestled her last match on AEW TV programming just two weeks ago, started with WWE on Tuesday at its Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.

In her first interview since joining WWE, Cargill spoke to ESPN and shared that a decision has already been made if she will go straight to the WWE main roster, or if she will first perform for its developmental brand, NXT.  Jade teased that fans are just going to have to stay tuned to see just how she will make her arrival.

In AEW, Cargill was a force to be reckoned with having held the AEW TBS Championship for Cargill for 508 days. She lost the title back in May of this year, and had been off AEW TV for quite some time, until a few weeks ago when she lost her final match to Kris Statlander.

Cargill, 31, has been wrestling professionally for two years. She has close ties to Cody Rhodes, who Jade admitted in her chat with ESPN, was one of the top two reasons she came to WWE.

AEW CEO and Owner, Tony Khan was asked about Cargill’s exit during a media call on Tuesday. Khan shared that he wished Jade all the best in her future and said he has nothing but positive things to say about her. Khan added Cargill would always be welcome in AEW.

Check out Jade’s first interview since becoming a top signing for WWE under their new umbrella TKO Group, below.
