Kelly Thiebaud Says She ‘Tried’ to Return to General Hospital

Daytime Emmy winner and fan favorite Kelly Thiebaud (ex-Britt Westbourne) is sorely missed on General Hospital. Britt met her demise when she was poisoned by The Hook (later revealed as Heather Webber) in emotional final scenes with her mother, Liesl (played by Kathleen Gati) in early 2023.

Before Britt died, she was becoming involved with Jason Morgan (Steve Burton), but Jason was ‘supposedly’ killed when a cave collapsed on him back in the fall of 2021. When Burton returned to GH in January of 2024, many had hoped somehow they could resurrect Britt, because people were intrigued by Britt and Jason’s on-screen chemistry.

Now, Kelly made a recent visit to Los Angeles and shared some snaps of her trip via her Instagram, along with her dog, Whiskey. When fans commented on being happy to see Kelly back in California in the photos, one fan was sad to hear she was leaving again.

The fan wrote in the comment section of her post,”I thought you were coming back to GH 😭😭😭”, to which Thiebaud replied and revealed, “I tried.” GH and soaps have certainly come up with ways to bring people back from the dead, and Britt could certainly be in that mix, although they would have to dance around some storytelling and find some holes in to do so.

Thiebaud joined GH back in 2012, and left and came back to the soap a few times.  Her final run was in 2020. She won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama Series in 2022, and was nominated again in the category in 2023.

So, would you have liked to see Jason and Britt together again on GH? Do you miss Kelly as ‘The Britch?” Comment below.

I told Frank Valentini I would be happy to send Britch back up, but he never returned my calls.

GH, I hope you try HARDER to bring Kelly Thiebaud back to GH ! I would accept any off the wall storyline if it meant we’d have her back

would love to see her and the great Kathleen Gati back

I wonder was she trying to come back like sign a contract? If so, they need to snatched her back up. But with Jonathan Jackson back on the show there is probably zero room in the budget.

Killing off Britt was a major mistake. She had lots of potential with Jason until he was “killed off” and then was paired with Austin and actually made him likeable! Now that Jason is back, I would love to see them pick up where things left off, and I’m fine with however they choose to resurrect her character. Plus, the hospital needs more staff after the losses of Epiphany, Bobbie and Finn, and Monica’s continued absence.

Kelly Thiebaud asked to be killed off; it was HER decision to exit in that manner. She is the sole reason Britt was killed off.

Is that a wig or a “photo double” in the 2nd picture of her Kelly’s insta? That does not even look like Kelly, she wears her hair a very specific way….

Anyways….

I’d love for Kelly Thiebaud to return to GH, somehow, someway, perhaps, Liesl faked Brita’s death to protect her from another threat and has Brita at the Geneva W.B.B Facility treating her Huntington’s Disease and MAYBE that’s where Liesl has been this whole time! She and Scott broke up, and Liesl vanished from Port Charles. Liesl could have hid Brita in hiding there or somewhere else in Europe. And, the writers could explain that Liesl saved Brita from Heather Webber but there has to be another to hid Brita far away… Perhaps, having something to Jason’s disappearance a few years ago. However, I am not sure, I’d want Brit to be paired up with Jason again. Brita deserves better than Jason. I’d love to see scenes with Brad & Brita again.

Kathleen Gati is definitely missed on GH and perhaps, Muther can bring her Brita back to Port Charles.

She would die eventually from Huntingtons disease. If they decided to take her back in the same role Britt would have to have been whisked off somewhere after she was shot and then found out she was misdiagnosed. But since they had a funeral for her with a body I don’t see it.

Please cast Kelly, as Audra sister on Y&R. Kelly is a wonderful actress.

I left Los Angeles in 2016.. It was a wonderful place though now seems to be extremely challenging. Hoping Kelly finds solace with her new direction.

I’d love to have her back, but only if Liesel returned with her. They were dynamic together!!

Yeah I enjoyed seeing Liesel with Britt. Especially during the phase when Liesel was very happily dating Scott and he referred to her as his Schnitzel.

Kelly demanded that her chracter be killed off to negate any possibility of return. Then Steve Burton came back and she changed her mind and wanted to come back. Sorry, but this is on her.

And you know this how?
I’m always so impressed on how all these viewers have insider information behind the scenes and are always in the know as to what’s going on..

I have often wondered about that too

She stated it, herself, that it was a decision between her and Frank Valentini. She has direct hand in how Britt exited the canvas.

To Soap Opera Digest:

You know, I had serious talks with Frank about wanting to leave. He is a wonderful boss, very compassionate and understanding and I am so, so grateful to him and what he did for me, from hiring me to letting me go on to this new chapter in my life. In the soap world, you can still come back after you die and who knows what will happen in 10 years, but for me, really wanting to move on in my creative experiences and in my life, I needed to feel like this was the end, and that’s why we all kind of decided on her dying.

Oy vey.

This would have been perfect if Britt was back in Port Charles. I can’t believe they didn’t jump at the chance to bring her back!

Every times she’s there she tells them she only wants a short stint. If she came back this would be the third time she said she’s done with soaps; it was never her career goal and last time she left she was pretty adamant she’d never want to return which is why she was good with them killing Britt off. I suspect though, that she hasn’t gotten the career she thought she’d have and figured steady work and paycheck looks pretty good again. The icing on the cake could be because Steve Burton is back. She said last time that she would have stayed longer if he hadn’t left; she loved working with him and loved the Britt/Jason pairing.

I can’t see them bringing “Britt” back. Not only did she die from the hook she was already dying from Huntingtons (another cheery story I say with full sarcasm). So if they ever do bring her back, I’d assume it would be a new character.

NO!

No! I look forward to the day that they kill off Britt’s mother!

No need to kill off a character they’ve exiled to never mention land.

Liesl is off reanimating Britt’s body.

It would be beyond preposterous to bring Britt back, to be honest. Her time has come and gone. As I recall, the actress was in favor of a final exit at the time because she knew she was moving overseas and wouldn’t be around.

I would LOVE to see Jason and Britt together again! And definitely miss Kelly.

They should’ve brought her back

I grew to really like Britt as a character (and Kelly’s performance). That said, it was Kelly’s decision to leave again. She also indicated it was a permanent choice.

Even if Britt miraculously survived Heather’s hook, she still had an incurable disease which was confirmed numerous times.

Maybe somewhere down the line she can play a new character, but for now with the budget forcing Frank to cut some cast, Britt will remain dead-dead.

I would love to see her come back. I love her and Jason together!!!

I don’t miss the Britch. I don’t miss Kelly and I think she had zero chemistry with Steve. GH doesn’t need Britt. It would be ridiculous of GH to bring Britt back given the way she died. Britt needs to stay dead!

Would love to see a Britt return – but she did die on screen. Just to set the record straight – Kelly Thiebaud left and wanted GH to KILL her off because (her words) she was upset with the fact Jason was off screen and she had no intention of returning. I was one of the ones super upset that she was leaving.

Burton is smart – he had said he learned to “never totally shut any door that may be open to you in the future”.

Might be the reason Liesel has been gone for so long. Britt found she had a misdiagnosis for MS. Her results had been tampered with by Victor. Although so soon after Gregory – it might be a slap in the face for the Harrison clan. I can see why Valenti turned her down at this point.

Also – unlike Jason – she could have told people she was alive. There may be a few folks upset with Brit for faking her death.

Britt had Huntington’s Disease, not MS. It’s more debilitating and fatal than MS.

I wish they would bring her back I liked her and Jason

miss her and  Kathleen Gati

I preface my response in stating: I like Kelly Thiebaud, and enjoyed the majority of her last stint as Britt Westbourne.

However, I am happy her request was declined. Actors need to learn to shut their mouths when exiting, and not make statements about their future(s) with the soap(s) they are on, because when they come back just over a year later and state they wanted to return, it shows a major… face slap to audiences. It’s the same thing I’ve said about Michelle Stafford in her exit and return to The Young and the Restless.

Stafford swore up and down, in interview after interview, she was “done” with the role of Phyllis and wouldn’t be returning. Cut to 2019, and she’s announced her return six-years after her “done” exit. And this is the same thing with Thiebaud. She had a hand in how Britt exited the canvas (ie: the death of Britt), and trying to go back now? It’s laughable to me.

In her exit interview with Soap Opera Digest, she stated:

Digest: You’ve come and gone before, but this exit is scripted to be permanent, as Britt died on camera. Did you have an opinion about that?

Thiebaud: You know, I had serious talks with Frank about wanting to leave.

So, as you can see (despite many disputing), she had little intentions of going back. She wanted out, permanently, and she got what she asked for. Done. Period. Now deal with that.

No glad she is gone and thank God she took her horrible talking, not able to understand mom as well

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

Photo: JPI

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

Published

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
