‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.
Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.
As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY
Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.
Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS
Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.
In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC
Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”
So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.

LOVE her.. I watched her grow up on the show, too, and hope we can see that lovely face on GH soon and often… I wish her much success as a director/actor/whatever she wants to be!
I really would like to see robin back, but also keep patricks girlfriend involved with his family as for he has moved on
I like Patrick’s new gf shes a sweet heart everything Robin wanted for a wife and mother for there lil girl. But I love Robin too. This will be a tough one to deside on.
You are the best Michael, great interview with Kim
Loved the blog she recently contributed to at https://paosrevolution.com/index.php/blog. And they’re selling a signed copy of Robin’s Diary!
I loved that blog and I watched the episode from 2010 with Stone that it mentioned. Fabulous! I had not seen that episode. Thank you for sharing the blog.
Awesome interview Michael and Kimberly!!! Thank you Michael!!
She ia so great and loved your questions and her answers are so much better because she is talking with you! Love her and hope she does come back soon and absolutely no recasts!
maybe now the Robin/Scrub fans will STFU and quit bashing Teresa and the Sabrina character! KM has given Sabrina and Patrick her seal of approval!
move forward people!
It isn’t just the Scrubs/Robin fans that don’t like the Sabrina Character…It’s not the fans fault that Sabrina is just THAT BORING! not needed of a character!
I don’t see her as a boring character, she is the exact type of “character” that Robin would want for Patrick and Emma! they are both in the medical field and Emma loves her!
Glad KM wants the Patrick character to continue and flourish on the show even if she is not there!
ITA Carm! I hear many who don’t like the character, and has nothing to do with Scrubs. a writer making a character so perfect and making her get ALL Robins life doesn’t work well for many and not just Scrub fans.
Though I do love KMc/Robin, and wish her well on any endeavor she chooses, I still don’t like the pairing of Sabrina and Patrick. She looks like his daughter. Even with his mistakes, his character had grown and matured over the years, and I feel that they have backtracked on who he had become to force their characters to fit. It still doesn’t work. She looked more fitting with Milo than she ever could with Patrick. JMO
I loved Robin, too. Watch GH since I was in middle sshool. However, I strongly disagree, Sabrina is exactly what Patrick needs. I feel he was backtracking with the Britch and it is high time he gets some stability in his life. Sabrina is exactly what he needs-she is smart, talented (I know you heard her amazing voice at the Nurses’ Ball), loving and nurturing among other things. What more can a single father ask for in a partner.
All that is happening is the old writers from One Life To Live are re-creating the same old tired characters from that show onto GH. We need some real GH characters. We need Robyn, we need Jason back and get rid of that guy who the writers worshipped on one life to live. And Morgan….the actor playing this character is straight out
It of the one life to live play book. I am sure true fans remember the fantastic character who played Morgan, not this meathead. They would never fight over some bad a tress and oh yes she is from one life to live too. They will pull this show down just like they did their show. Get rid of them get our GH actors and writers back.
I agree with you 100%!!!! I am tired of ALL negative comments toward Teresa Castillo(Sabrina). Please people give her a chance and move on!!! Teresa is SO beautiful and so talented!!! TEAMSABRINA!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Micheal!! Awesome interview.. Kiimberly is so cool!! I really miss and love Robin.. I hope so much Robin is able to come back soon!!
She’s one of my inspirations. Thank you for this:)
Great interview as usual Kim looks great and so do you.. I miss Kim as Robin but, if she isn’t coming back that let Patrick start a new relationship with Sabrina. .
Folks I for one love Patrick and Sabrina pairing. They add sweetness to the story. Keep them together. I also love Robin but Patrick has moved on.
Patrick would not move on is He knew Robin was out there. The sweetness is Robin and Patrick.
Love Kimberly and Robin. There is only one Robin and that is Kimberly.. Now lets get Robin back with HER husband and child. Patrick hasn’t moved on and I don’t believe he loves anyone but Robin. I hear words and see no REAL feelings just people who forced Patrick to move on certainly not the Love storylike Robin and Patrick had. Patrick and robin have a deep connection not a forced couple . I see a writer who used ROBINS FAMILY/CHILD to get nurse liked. No way would Patrick be with anyone but his TRUE LOVE and SOULMATE Robin. Need to see Robin’s story with Patick and Emma finding out alive. I don’t recognize this Patrick and Robin should be in the story with he and Britt now, EMMA needs her mommy Robin and Patrick needs his REAL LOVE Robin. Where is our ROBIN? Many still waiting for Robin to return. Sorry Kimberly your pic should have been there not the disrespectful women who crushed after Patrick and acted innocent. What was disrespectful was having the NB honor Robin while Patrick stood on stage with this new child nurse. Talk about disrespect. Robin is GH legacy and history not the pet nurse.
Love your post. I agree 100%
GET OVER IT!!!
It would be one thing if Patrick and Sabrina made sense but they don’t. There isn’t any chemistry there. No angst whatsoever which is what a soap couple needs to keep them compelling and not boring. This couple puts me to sleep and I never thought I would say that about the character of Patrick.
kim is so pretty.i love her.
Agree!
Chemistry isn’t thtowing yourself at someone in a shower. At first Patrick and Robin didn’t makes sense but eventually there relationship grew on us. Like many of Robin relationships, she was always the sensible one. I feel Sabrina is a wonderful character and given the chance, she may surprise all of you Robin fans. After all I grew up watching Robin grow but it is time to let go.
Actually I wasn’t even thinking about chemistry in terms of throwing oneself at someone else. I was thinking of chemistry in the natural way two characters respond to one another and these two characters just don’t have it. Also I am a Patrick and Robin fan. Not just a Robin fan and I just never thought the character of Patrick would become boring if he was paired with someone else after Kimberly left the show but that is exactly what happened. What made the character of Patrick tick and work is now gone and I feel a lot of that is due to the character of Sabrina.
This interview has just confirmed what I suspected-Kim is taking advantage of the situation, and doesn’t give a damn. The arrogance she just showed is mind-blowing. She doesn’t want to be there, but yet she doesn’t want Frank to recast Robin. She knows fans are angry, but makes no sign to rectify anything. C’mon Kim, make a decision-you’re either in or out. GH fans deserve better, this is pathetic
That’s not what she’s saying at all. She said the recast would never happen because she has been playing this role for almost 30 years, and the producers wouldn’t do that. It’s the same reason you aren’t going to see a Jason recast. There are some characters that are too tied up in their actors for a recast to make sense.
Also, characters come and go on soaps all of the time. Kimberly took a break around 15 years ago and then came back in 2006. She then stayed for six years. Whose to say she won’t come back in a few years and do another six year run?
Why do we keep blaming KMC. Maybe she is ready to come back and it’s the writers that don’t want to. Especially since Sabrina is their favorite pet now. They already manage to shove her down Patrick’s throat.
I CAN NOT WAIT TO HAVE ALL THE SHOWS I GREW UP WATCHING BACK.
THANK YOU
Good interview. I agree with her about some things but other comments from her annoyed me. All I know is I need Robin back with Emma. I hate that GH has stuck Robin’s daughter on Suckbrina propping duty. That character sucks so much she literally needs everyone she interacts with telling the audience how awesome she is and how much we should love her. Sorry, not working. It’s actually an EPIC FAIL for me. Note to the writers: If you have to try THAT hard maybe it’s not working and you should move on!
ITA!
Not working for me neither. This is BS ☻. One minute she is just a co-worker, a babysitter, a kid he sees more like a sister the next minute he’s in Love with her PLEASE. He was push into that relationship.
I LOVE ROBIN.AN WOULD LOVE TO SEE HER BACK.BUT WOULD BE SAD FOR SABRINA.I THOUGHT THE WICKED WITCH MOM WAS GOING TO BRING HER BACK AS A SURPRISE.
My thoughts exactly..
Miss u very much u r a great actdress wish u luck I the years 2 come .Kristy Morgan
The character of Sabrina is sweet, innocent and caring. What would you rather see, Patrick without a wife and Emma without a mother. R with someone like Britt, who is emotionally disturbed. I have watched GH for 35 years and would love for them to bring Robin bck, I watched Kimberly grow up on that show, even named my child after her character. But the show must go on, and if Kimberly isn’t going to return, then Sabrina is the best choice for Patrick and Emma.,, Although my girls and I would love for Robin to return from the grave,, we are glad that Patrick finally opened his eyes where Sabrina is concerned… Love her character… It’s nice to have someone like her on a soap.
I totally agree with you.
I loved seeing Robin/Kimberly grow up, and become a doctor and mother and Patrick’s wife. It appears from the interview that Kimberly will come back for a time to end the story- we know Robin’s really being held captive. How can she come back, finish the story line (that would have to be come back to PC) and then leave again? she says the character won’t be recast. If she’s not coming back for good- that’s kind of selfish. I have mixed feelings. i would like Robin to return for good and be with Patrick. But I want Kimberly to be able to pursue her dreams of being a director. I don’t want to think of Robin forever being held captive. And I don’t want Sabrina to be hurt. I don’t know what the answer is.- but if Kimberly is not going to be on the show full time, I don’t see how Robin and be alive and held captive forever. Amd I don’t want to see Robin and Patrick break up.
You’ve hit upon my major problem with this situation. I will ALWAYS respect her decision to become a director, but decisions have consequences. She’s got Ron and Frank over a barrel, and she knows it-because rabid fans just can’t accept her being gone. But, she has done NOTHING to give fans a show of good faith. GH fans deserve better than this
What do you see as a solution, Troy, both for the show and fans. In a way it was better to think she was “gone” from the explosion than have her held captive forever and show up for a few min. here and there. I hope they don’t decide to kill her off or have her break up with patrick. The only long term solution I can see is to look long and hard and find the most “perfect” replacement they can, and have her escape or be sprung. Maybe they should have had the actress who plays Sabrina play the new Robin. If they keep Sabrina, she needs to become more confident. As she is, it’s not too believable that Patrick would truly fall in love. It’s a little too fairy tale-ish. In the long term, she needs to become stronger and more interesting.
I agree 100%! I hate to see a recast but this situation calls for it. Thats why i mention a lookalike in my comments…she looks enough like Robin, and could be a possible recast!
All this lies at Kim’s feet, unfortunately. She MUST make a decision before anything else can happen. Frank has been INCREDIBLY patient-so he can’t force her to come back, or she could show the back of her hand and stay gone. But, there comes a point where the good of the show outweighs the needs of the performer, and if we haven’t passed that point already-we’re awfully close
Above someone shared a blog that Kimberly and Michael contributed to. I recommend everyone read it, it was really good. It also links to an episode in which Stone came back in 2010 to talk to Robin. You must go to that blog and see that episode. Robin is in a well (after patrick cheats on her) and Stone comes to her. it was fabulous and Michael (Stone) is so good looking. he was a cute boy, but as a man he is one of the best looking men I’ve ever seen. I wonder if they could bring him back as a new character. It would make more sense than bringing Michael EAston, Roger, and Kristin as new characters after we’ve just seen them. Michael is a man now and looks enough different. His acting on the episode was outstanding!
I love the paring of Sabrina & Patrick! She doesn’t look like his daughter. I agree that the character of Patrick has grown and matured over the years but they haven’t backtracked. and even though I love Kimberly Mccullough Patrick deserves to move on and be happy even though right now it seems the Britch (their words not mine) is complicating his life. Kudos!! to Ron Carlivati and Frank Vallentine they are the best things to hit GH since Gloria Monty! and to the Actor and Actress who portray Patrick and Sabrina KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!! I can’t wait to see where this goes
love Kimbley hope she has has success with all her ventures she undertakes. I love her humour surrounding Sabrina Emma and Patrick finale at the Nures Ball
RECAST ROBIN…DONT LEAVE US DANGLING KNOWING SHES ALIVE! Ive seen an actress in a Payless Shoe add who i think looks enough like K.M./Robin who could possibly take over the role! But i still like Sabrina!
At some point down the road they could do a take on the movies, “My Favorite Wife” or “Move Over, Darling” and have Robin come back before or after Patrick marries Sabrina or even someone else down the way. Robin could also sucumb to the Stockholm syndrome and fall for one of the people she is helping to find a cure for… be it Jerry Jaks or possibly there are others she is being forced to find cures for… other Dr. Obrect patients or Faison’s colleagues. She could also discover that she loves finding complex cures for un-chartered diseases/conditions and come back and say that she wants to continue with that work and that would cause her to be gone for long bouts of time working all over the world. She would be like Anna was to Robin… with Emma (not a good choice… but could be used… to allow KM tp follow her directing bliss) and come back sporadically for major events in Emma’s life. If that had to be the explanation I would like to see Sabrina be there for Emma for the long haul with Patrick… sort of like Mac has and was for Maxie, Georgie and Robin. She and Anna could have that in common and it could offer some interesting scenes way down the way when Anna and Robin are sharing great scenes.
I love that Kimberly said that Sabrina could have Patrick…for a minute. LMBO! Kim is awesome and I would loooooove to see her come back and reclaim her rightful place in Patricks arms. And Sabrina has been great to Emma but she can never replace Robin being Emma’s mom. So I hope Robin comes home ASAP but only if she gets Patrick and Emma back.
My feelings exactly.
I REALLY THOUGHT THEY WERE GONNA BRING BACK ROBIN DURING NURSES BALL, WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT AND SAD ALL AT THE SAME TIME. GREAT FOR PATRICK AND EMMA AND SAD FOR PATRICK AND SABRINA. WHEN BRIT CAME OUT AND MADE HER ANNOUNCEMENT I REALLY THOUGHT ROBIN WAS GONNA COME OUT THEN AND TELL BRIT WHERE SHE COULD GET OFF!!!!!!! DAMN IT!!!!!! ROBIN NEEDS TO COME BACK NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hate Patrick without Robin and I hate his new girlfriend. No one can replace Robin ( Kimberly McCullough ).
This is exactly how I feel too. I can’t even bare to watch any of his scenes right now.
I want Robin to come back as soon as possible!!!!!!!!!! I hate Patrick and Sabrina being a couple, Robin is the only one for Patrick, Kimberly come back to General Hospital, Emma and Patrick and so many others miss you so much and me too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bring back Robin please love her and Jason. Also it’s not the same
