Kristian Alfonso Reveals What Led To Her Days of our Lives Exit

On Thursday night, iconic Days of our Lives star Kristian Alfonso (Hope) gave more details to Entertainment Tonight of just what led to her departure from the show she called home for 37 years.

Alfonso is one of the most soap-famous actresses in the genre and a long and enduring fan favorite with viewers, so when she announced earlier this month on Instagram that she was exiting and moving on to a new chapter in her life and career, fans were stunned.

Interviewed by former General Hospital star and current ET anchor Matt Cohen (Ex-Griffin). Kristian opened up further about her exit from the show.  You can watch her segment from ET here.

In her discussion with Cohen, Alfonso said she made the choice to step away from DAYS, after she was informed by executive producer Ken Corday that they were planning to write her character off of the show for four to five months. Although she was told that her character would come back and have a storyline, she then decided it was sign for her to move on,

Kristian told ET: “At that moment I thought to myself, you know what, it’s time for a change and it was the perfect moment to make that decision. I was taken aback when he said that they wanted to take me off camera for four to five months. It was not something that had ever been discussed but that’s what it was, and to come back in five to six months, or four to five months — whatever that time frame was — I just thought, you know what, it’s time to really write a new chapter. I’ve had an incredible run there. I’ve had so many amazing friends and memories. I cannot say enough how I’ll miss so many people working there and working with them, but they are in my life and we do socialize, but like I said, I think it’s time.”

Alfonso also acknowledged she’s had a “roller coaster of emotions” since her decision, but ultimately, she doesn’t have any regrets.   She added: “I don’t know if I will continue in this business, but possibly. I have been getting calls and some interest on some projects, so we’ll see.”

As to why she came forward with more details on her exit from the soap, Kristian expressed: “I felt that I owed it to the audience.  The viewers who have watched for so long, I didn’t want to hide anything. I’ve always been upfront, very honest, sometimes I get in trouble for being so honest. … But I just felt that I really wanted to share what my decision was. I didn’t want it to be a shock or a surprise when all the sudden, you know, Hope just appears in the attic or she’s off looking for someone or maybe she’s taken a trip or she’s, I don’t know what they would come up with. …  I had really thought about leaving, mulling it over I’d say probably for the last few years.”

Always one to be positive, Kristian leaves DAYS with, as she put best: “So many milestones in my life happened on that show and I have so many incredible memories.”  She added on her amazing run on the show: “I truly worked my tail off but I was very lucky to get the opportunity. Did I ever think that I would be on a show for so many years? No, I didn’t. I didn’t realize that, no. I never took anything for granted. Ever. Ever, ever.”

So, what do you think about what Kristian revealed led to her departure from DAYS?  Will you miss seeing her on-screen? Comment below.

It wouldnt surprise me one single bit that they were planning to write Hope off.SHe really didnt have much of a story plot.I say give it a few months she will be in a Lifetime movie. That seems to be where a lot of Days stars land up.
Off topic have you noticed you dont see Kate Mansi that much?Well a few weeks ago she was in a brand new Lifetime movie. If you are a Kate fan she sure has been in a lot Lifetime movies so has Nicole Anyway if they can find a descent story about Hope maybe she will be back.Good luck in whatever you do Kristian

Oh ya Marci Miller was also in a Lifetime movie.

Also, when Abby returns, Marci will be playing the part.

I actually liked Marci so did my best friend.I think Kate is doing more movies that is why she left.

As “popular” as Alfonso may be, personally it is no great loss—-my opinion.
It was amazing for me seeing Sweeney, today—hopefully, she has a gift for Rafe—-she had his baby and kept it a secret.

Hey,are you the same Celia…i had to leave this site cause someone hacked my computer using my Jim name and using my email address as well..found over 100 comments/posts from the hacker on different sites and seen he even made comments here under the name Jim that wasnt mine under other posts/stories that was not my own opinion and there is no delete button to take them off here so many will think they are mine…i will stay with Jimh…i need escapism but other sites i belong too were getting too political and full of hate at each other and and i left them…dont know if i can stay here after all that???

Hi, Jimmy—it is I—-sorry you had to go through all that. I went through the same thing when I was posting as CeeCee—
I can’t say I blame you for having doubts —-it’s a different world, my friend. We are regressing into the Wild, Wild West. Lawlessness at its best–or should I say, worst.
Be safe, Jimmy–we need to hang on and believe in Divine❤️ power.

Amen to that, CeeCeeGirl! (And hello! Good to see you back again…) I’ve been wondering how you’ve been faring in your new environs and meaning to get in touch, then….Voila! Suddenly, there you were! “Hope” all is well with you and yours…..no KA pun intended! (Hey, she had an incredible daytime run…whether or not you shall miss the character, it remained a pleasure to see the fairer half of one of soap’s most legendary ‘80’s supercouples survive for nearly four solid decades on the DOOL canvas!) Anyway, I’m still fighting the good fight against all those negative forces currently befalling us! To be honest, it’s the extreme heat that is my biggest bete noire at the moment…compared to the “blast-furnace-like” temps and tropical-strength humidity, putting up with the ongoing “donning of the masks” routine and omnipresent anti-American blatherfest is a cakewalk. Been there, done that….it is what it is!!! As you said to Jimh, may “Divine Inspiration” keep us safe and sane in these perilous upcoming months!!! Later, mia amica!

Hiya, Shaybelle—-sorry I did not answer you sooner. I haven’t been checking in—
All is well on this side of the Mississippi—–very hot weather—kids in te pool all day, keepig me on my toes. How ae you??
As far as teaching, nothing is set yet considering the tumultuos chaos . Now, the Teachers’ Union is making obnoxious demands. Kids need to be in school,Shay…-so many factors involved……emotionally, physically and psychologically. Going against the grain/norm is not indicative for healthy chid-development.
I heard through the grapevine that GH is airing new episodes starting Monday ( the 3rd). Soooo glad!! I miss the show and the comments.
It’s a different world we live in, mia bella—I don’t know if we will ever get back to where we once were.
This is what kids will remember from their childhood? I feel for all children—there’s no freedom—no sleepovers—-no birthday parties with friends. No Prom!!
Ah, well, at least we’re getting GH back. TPTB better work their magic and deliver!!
Ciao–stay safe❤️

P.S. Will you be still be teaching in your new locale? I meant to ask about that in my previous post…Despite the uncertainty surrounding the upcoming school year due to the current health crisis, I truly hope you will be because the country desperately needs more excellent educators like you, CeeCeeGirl!!!!

Awwww…that is totally despicable, Jimh!!!! So sorry that you’ve had your privacy invaded by nasty, unconscionable people who obviously have way too much spare time on their hands…(Sounds like the same kind who are causing mayhem in the streets and destroying private/public property that doesn’t belong to them! Seems nothing triggers these miscreants more than those of us who actually appreciate a calm, civilized life and have respect for manners, morals and the rule of law! ) I imagine your good-hearted disposition, highly-evident wit and optimistic determination—despite numerous personal adversities—really irk those miserable sorts who cannot stand to see anyone experience the joy you’ve brought to this website…because if they aren’t happy, then none of us is allowed to be!!!! It’s just such a shame that two of the nicest individuals I’ve ever encountered here—that would be CeeCee and YOU!—have both been subjected to unnecessary and uncalled for difficulties by cyber cowards who get their kicks by causing trouble for others. Please don’t let them win by throwing in the towel when it comes to commenting here..not only would you be sorely missed, but it would afford the opportunity for those keyboard creeps to claim victory with their misdeeds. Now that we’ve been duly forewarned as to the shenanigans being falsely perpetrated in your name, those who know and love your posts won’t be fooled by imposters! Just hang in there, my friend! The truth is on your side! Take care!

Nice to hear we are all back…

I can’t say I’m surprised after that princess Gina debacle involving Steve as Stefano. What a horrific story line. All the comings and goings smack of a lack of creativeness on the Head Writer’s part. And what do they do? Fire the long serving Executive Producer Greg Meng as if it were his fault. Sure there have been preemption’s, especially in California due to the coronavirus. But,to have viewing numbers for Days original content to fall well below repeats of other Soaps (CBS,ABC) speaks of a wider problem. And it ain’t Greg Meng.

Ummmm….why did I just receive an email saying I’ve been subscribed as a new member here, and had to confirm it? LOL. OK. I confirmed it. Strange.

Actually in demographics that influence advertising (Women 18-34 and Women 25-54), DAYS has been No. 1 since the others went into repeats, and actually beat GH during its last two weeks of originals.

lol, it’s alway been RC, taking kickbacks to kill…
the looney thing is coronavirus,
it hit nyc, then LA, next stop, Deleware?

too Cool!

Hope has not had a good story line in a long time . She is too good of actress to just be put on back burner . To me her and Rafe had no chemsary . I wish her best at anything she does but I sure don’t blame her for leaving .

YES. I will miss her (Kristen) …and Jennifer (Melissa). I grew up with these ladies and I must say…it really saddens me…now..this is just a “soap”. but like I said…I grew up watching them. so. I hope they come back at some point. and they really do deserve a great story line. they are a classic for “days” thank you both….
