Man Leaves His Estate To Actors He Never Met! One Being EX-Y&R's Peter Barton!

In a bizarre story, Ray Fulk willed his estate to two actors he never met, leaving them an estimated half a million dollars each.  Fulk was 71 when he died last July. He lived alone on a 160-acre property in Lincoln, Ill. that he inherited from his father. He had no family or children.  What Fulk did have was an admiration for actors Kevin Brophy and Peter Barton, whom he had never met. He admired them so much that he left his estate to be split between them.

According to Yahoo! News, Donald Behle, an estate attorney, said he helped prepare Fulk’s will around 1998, and never saw him again. Behle had helped with the estate of Fulk’s father, who died in 1997.

As to why Fulk will his estate to the two actors?   “He just said they were friends of his,” Behle said, who knew they were actors but did not know Fulk had never met them.   Behle is not sure why he considered them friends, but the State Journal-Register newspaper of Springfield, Ill., says he was a fan of their television shows.  Barton is known for his role as Dr. Scott Grainger in the soap opera The Young and the Restless from 1987 to 1993.  Brophy was in the 1977 show Lucan. Fulk had a poster from the show on the wall of his house, according to the State Journal-Register.

Behle is currently overseeing the sale of Fulk’s property, which is appraised at $1,054,000.  After Fulk died, Brophy and Barton received letters informing them of the bequest. The two are friends who had acted in the film Hell Night in 1981. They could not be reached for comment.  Barton actually visited Lincoln and Behle to see if the letter was real, Behle said. “His reaction was disbelief,” Behle said. “What would yours be?”  Behle said he enjoyed meeting Barton and giving him a tour of the property, except for the home.

“His house was an absolute filthy mess. We wore masks when we were in there,” Behle said. The only other bequest he left was to the Anti-Cruelty Society, an animal organization in Chicago. “He loved animals,” Behle said, though he said he doesn’t know if Fulk was affiliated with the organization.

Ok soapers, if you had a will, would you name any of your favorite soap opera stars in it?  And if so, who?  What do you think of the story of Ray Fulk’s decision to leave his estate to Scott Barton and Kevin Brophy?  Weigh-in!

I guess Ray didn’t have any relatives he wanted to leave his estate too and maybe these two actors gave him a lot of joy via their performances. I think I would probably leave more to charities than strangers. But I guess Ray felt he knew them in some way. Sure is crazy!

Ray didn’t have any running water and bathed in a creek!!! Okay, he should have used some of his money to add mod cons to his house. I don’t understand people who live in squalor and then when they die you find out they were millionaires. Maybe his money was tied up in his house/land, but he should have sold and bought himself a nice little place.

Not on your life would I do something like that. My fantasies will never go that deep. Like the lady said: I have my own family to think about………..As sure as the world continue to be in existence there will be stranger things to happen. Nothing ceases to amaze me. Like mom always said: Just keep on living! You ain’t seen nothing yet!

This man must have felt a connection to the shows these actors were on. Shows you watch for a long time tend to make you feel like you know the characters and are part of something. It’s a little sad because the man had no other family. I hope the actors accept the inheritance and do something good with it, even just a portion of the money could set up a trust to help a good cause.

Hollywood Studios, Producers & Guilds Send Plan To Gov. Newsom and Gov. Cuomo For COVID-19 Production Restart Guidelines

On Monday, the two states with the most television and film production in the United States (California and New York) received a plan from many Hollywood studios, producers and the entertainment and production guilds of a plan and outline to be able to rejigger and restart production of your favorite shows and films.  This includes the soaps: General Hospital, The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful and Days of our Lives.

Via Deadline: In an effort to get the industry moving-forward again where jobs were lost or put on hold, and production were completely stalled out-of-the-blue, the guidelines submitted by “The Industry-Wide Labor-Management Safety Committee Task Force (the “Task Force”) is asking for consideration and adoption for the resumption of motion picture, television, and streaming productions in an environment that minimizes the risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19,” says a report for Governors Gavin Newsom of California and Andrew Cuomo of New York.

You can read the details of the report here.  While there has been no word from the Governors and their offices if they have seen the report, bets are that several more steps will be needed before anyone would head and report back to a set yet.

As one would expect, limiting contact, social distancing, regular temperature checks, ways to handle props, and a COVID-19 compliance officer for all productions are part of the proposal.   As well as virtual writers room meetings, avoiding filming on-location as much as possible and filming in front of large audiences.

So, glad to know that this major step has been taken to try to get production back on track in Hollywood and New York? Comment below.

British Soap ‘Coronation Street’ Set To Resume Production Next Week Following COVID-19 Shutdown

Will American soaps soon follow the Brits, and be able to start up your favorite soap towns again? While production entities await for guidelines from the state of California and the city of Los Angeles, across the bond, ITV’s Coronation Street has set next Tuesday, June 9th to begin filming new episodes of the popular drama.

Coronation Street had been on  10-week mandatory shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic sweeping our globe.  The return to start up the show keeps the soap on-air throughout July and then ongoing.  There will be three episodes filmed each week at their studios in Manchester.

Along with ITV’s Emmerdale, and  other programs, Coronation Street is returning to production under the UK’s guidelines and  safety protocols for COVID-19.

According to Deadline that will include: crew members designated to a specific studio or exterior lot  …  social distancing will be observed … cast and crew will have daily temperature checks, while older and more vulnerable members of the team won’t be part of the new episodes during the initial period of filming.

In a statement, John Whiston, ITV’s managing director of continuing drama, said: “Getting to this point has taken a huge amount of work and goodwill from a huge number of people, not least our cast and crew. With the peak past, all indications are that the time is right for a return to filming.  And with the extensive protocols we have put in place, we have made our workplace as safe as possible. I’m sure our audience will appreciate having the show they love continue on air. For many who have written in it is a vital escape from all the fears and stresses this virus brings in its wake.”
