Maurice Johnson Shares Heartfelt Goodbye to ‘Beyond the Gates’ Fans Citing, “We Made History”
UPDATED: This week, Maurice Johnson wrapped his run as the original Dr. Ted Richardson on the new CBS daytime drama, Beyond the Gates. The actors was replaced by Keith D. Robinson on-screen as of the Thursday, May 12th episode and is the first actor recast in the show’s young history.
What made the timing of the Ted swap a bit intriguing is Keith D. Robinson is taking over the role at a time when all hell has broken loose in Dr. Richardson’life. In story, Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) recently revealed that she had an affair with Ted some 20 years ago and he is the father to her child, a daughter, none other than Nicole’s (Daphnee Duplaix) assistant, Eva (Ambyr Michelle). The fallout from here will be played by Robinson.
On Friday, Maurice Johnson took to his account on X and shared some special goodbyes and thank you’s. Johnson expressed, “I love and appreciate my #BTG fans and #BTG cast and crew fam! You loved on #Ticole #DrTed #TurtleneckTed #TeddyBear #TeddyWeddy and #FatherTed. Class, Gravitas, Passion, Empathy, Charisma, Chemistry and MANHOOD is what I gave Ted . We made history!” In addition to his written words, Johnson accompanied it with a video montage of stills from moments from his time on the CBS soap opera.

Responding to Michael Fairman TV’s post on this article on Saturday via X, Maurice Johnson wrote: “It’s never goodbye, always see you later. CBS, let’s give the fans what they want so these ladies won’t storm the gates 😂 “I ain’t hard to find” like Coach Prime Deion Sanders says 💪🏾”
As Johnson originally alluded to, Beyond the Gates did make history when it debuted back in February as the first Black-led hour-long soap opera and the first new daytime drama being launched in 25 years.
Before Beyond the Gates, Johnson’s TV credits included: Hawaii Five-0, Chicago Fire, The Catch, Nashville, Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse, Vampire Diaries and Good Girls to name a few. No word yet on Johnson’s next project, but stay tuned!
So, are you sad that Maurice Johnson is no longer playing Ted Richardson on Beyond the Gates? Share our thoughts via the comment section below.

I am a number one fan of Btg, I prefer Maurice Johnson playing the role as teddy Richardson ,I miss him.bring him back
I really liked the original guy that played on BTG when it first aired. Bring him back .
I concur!!
Ditto
I love the show, I prefer Maurice Johnson playing the role as Ted Richardson. PLEASE bring him back
I totally agree. The original for Ted was awesome. I haven’t got use to the new one yet..Just not the same
Yes yes I agree. The replacement actor doesn’t match the spouse chronically- not good casting. Makes the spouse look like a desperate cougar
I’m so disappointed in the new Ted the original Ted was perfect for the part plassee bring him back
I agree I like the original Ted…Bring him back
I concur !!
The new Ted doesn’t fit the part at all. He is all the way off…
I concur
Yes he do not fit d profile to play d part as Maurice Johnson please please please put Maurice Johnson back on Beyond The Gates d picture is not d same with out “Maurice Johnson”
Love Maurice’s photo montage set to one of my favorite Gap Band songs Outstanding.
I agree … he needs to come back. I don’t care if he swayed a little when he spoke. He was Ted Richardson.
They can re-shoot the scenes already filmed. Or maybe he will become Alexander Dumas on Y&R or some competition for Carter Walton on B&B. I much prefer BTG over those soaps, but the producers and casting directors made a big mistake on this recast.
What’s new 4 CBS. Sad but tru! We want Maurice back on BTG! PRONTO!
Hi,will you please bring Maurice back on Beyond the Gates to play Ted please. The show is not the same without Maurice. Will you all please bring Maurice back please.
Perhaps the actor has chosen to leave. If he has, all of the “bring him back” posts are silly. No one can make him play a part that he has chosen to leave. Give the new actor a chance.
Agree bring him back
I concur
Yes, He was the debut Ted, he looks bolder. It will take a minute. I
The new Ted looks like a child. Do not mess up a great show
I enjoyed watching the original Ted Richardson he played the part very well and I was always admiring the way he was on the show. Please bring him back the replacement Ted does not the part at all.
Please because Robinson may be a good actor but he sure doesn’t look the part!!!!
I concur
Yes! He made the role!! His replacement falls well short the image of who Ted is. Should I dare say he is not manly enough to fit the role.
Exactly! He doesn’t have the image portrayed!
I truly luv Maurice playing the role of Ted Robinson!!
Maurice Johnson will forever be Dr. Ted Richardson. I don’t know why the showrunner felt the need to replace him but he will be sorely missed. Maurice you are one fine dark chocolate man and I wish the best for your next venture. I look forward to watching you again whatever your next project will be.
Bring Maurice Johnson back please .The new guy do not fit that part. Please please bring him back.
Oh the new guy can’t play the part like Maurice Johnson play the part like Maurice Johnson. Please bring Maurice Johnson back to play the role of Ted Richards please give the fans what we want please.
I’ll miss him. However I’m going to give Keith a chance
I am very disappointed that Maurice Johnson is leaving. I really like him and Nicole together. No disrespect to Keith Robinson.
I concur
Please save this storyline. Keith is not right for this character. Please find someone to match Daphnee’s character, in stature, and strength for their occupation and family status.
Will the REAL Ted Please Stand up. Hey guy, Please come back, I miss your handsome face and that Wonderful voice. You were cast for a reason!
Absitively posolutely
I want Maurice Johnson back. The new guy is too young to play that part. He’s not as debonair
Keith D. Robinson is three-years older than Maurice Johnson.
Oh well, the new guy is cool he’s played on General hospital he’s a great actor as well, to Maurice I’m pretty sure Tyler Perry will have him on one of his shows
Yes I’m sad but more like MAD!
I concur
The new Ted just doesn’t have it … at all! Like he doesn’t bring anything to the character.
Yep
I think the original Ted should return to BTG. He is a great actor. He played the role well. Nothing against the new Ted, but he looks younger for the part.
I truly loved Maurice Johnson playing dr Ted Richardson. He was gr8 n rht role! Wish he was returning!!
Yes, I’m sorry to see leave. Him and Nicole were good together. But that’s the way soap opera are. We will have to adjust to a new Ted.
I have to get used to the new Ted. I was taken by surprise when I tuned in today. I guess I’ve been MIA! Well, I’m back and I miss the old Ted. I’ll give the new one a chance. Everybody deserves that! He looks so young!!!
I certainly didn’t want to see him go and I wish that they would bring him back! The other guy doesn’t have the same stature and I am finding it hard to believe the stand-in actor.
I despise new Ted. What are you thinking? Unlike original Ted completely!!! My Teddy is handsome dashing sexy believable as a father and mature. The new guy looks like a child playing a man. Bring my Teddy back!!!
BBRING BACK MAURICE! Enough said!!!!
Why are they canceling all of the good tv shows like Swat, the Equlizer just to name a few they are good shows!!! I’m an avid viewer and I plan my evening on what’s coming on tv that evening!!!! Now if it’s nothing coming on t may have to not watch TV or switch to cable tv and that’s really expensive!!!! I’m on a fixed income!!!
I prefer Maurice h
Johnson he fits better in this roll
Maurice Johnson as Ted was an excellent casting choice. Please bring him back. The replacement is okay. But Maurice was superb.
Please bring him back! I loved watching this handsome man. He made you feel him in his role.
I was disappointed when Maurice left. He really brought Ted to life. The move was so sudden without warning and too soon in the show the replace an actor.
Maurice Johnson, brings a larger presence to the role. Bring him back!
I love Maurice Johnson playing Ted. I just can’t get comfortable watching the new Ted.
Yes I am sad about it and very upset. I felt like he and his wife were perfect for each other. I felt that they fit so good together. I am truly going to miss him and her being together.
Is there anyway u could get him back.maybe if u offered him a bit more money.try it it might work.
I like both Teds
I miss actor the OG of Beyond the Gates Ted portrayed by MJ. I have to say it. Actor Keith D. Robinson is only “OK” B-C level in juxtaposed to the incredible A+ acting by Actor Maurice Johnson. He is smooth, a real natural with lovely talented Daphnee as Nicole on Beyond the Gates. They both complimented one another, each scene with the kids too was realistic, and great throughout.I am one who believe CBS will 1 day ask for actor Maurice to return as Dr. Ted. I will be all smiles when they do. Should have NEVER got rid of this incredible fan favorite. Always a fan of Actor Maurice Johnson. Adios.
