Melody Thomas "emergency" pulled her out of new web series "The Republic"!

melodyThomasScott.jpgY&R’s Melody Thomas Scott apparently had to back out of her new web series The Republic in which she was set to star.   In a release on the shows offical website, it details that due to an emergency for Melody there needed to be an “emergency” recast for Melody’s role of Martha.  Film star, Sean Young was a last minute recast.   Below are some excerpts from the producers on the casting development!

“Politics took a back seat as Melody Scott Thomas withdrew from THE REPUBLIC, a webisode currently filming in West Hills. Sean Young has stepped into the role of Martha Alden.

According to Melody’s agent, she regretted having to leave the project, but “an emergency” made it impossible for her to continue. Melody had looked forward to expanding into Internet broadcasting in THE REPUBLIC webisodes. Melody lights up THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. She had even cut and colored her hair brunette for the role of Martha Alden.  Melody pulled out just before principle photography was to begin, but a family portrait of the Aldens had been shot. (see below)

Sean Young, star of BLADE RUNNER, NO WAY OUT, and ACE VENTURA PET DETECTIVE, has jumped into the role of Martha Alden. Sean says, “I was grabbed by the script right away, because it has so many echoes in the current news. The Republic is at its heart a family story, and the idea of sticking together through a crisis really appealed.”

Principle photography began Wednesday, with Martha facing off against her neighbor played by Mary-Margaret Humes. Marc Singer (BEASTMASTER, V) will star as Martha’s husband, Frank Alden. Marc commented, “I hate to see Melody go, because we had a connection, but Sean has grabbed the ball and run with it. She’s so enthused she’s lifted the entire cast and crew, so it should be a blast.”

Ashton Arbab Says Farewell To General Hospital: “It Was Such An Honor To Have Worked Alongside Of Such Talented Actors”

Yesterday, viewers of General Hospitals witnessed that as a result of the bomb explosion at the Floating Rib; it meant the end of the road for a couple of characters.  One of those was Dev, and thus ends Ashton Arbab’s over two-year run in the role.

In key scenes, Dev dies in the ambulance ride to the hospital and thanks Sonny (Maurice Benard) for making him a part of the family and tells Sonny to tell Josslyn (Eden McCoy) that he is sorry.  Will Sonny recall what Dev said and pass that on to Joss? Will anyone figure out Dev’s duplicity in keeping Joss and Cameron (William Burton) apart? Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, Ashton took to Twitter on Tuesday and shared these words of praise and ‘thank you’ for his time on the ABC daytime drama series.

Arbab expressed: “I am forever grateful to Producer Frank Valentini and Mark Teschner (casting director, GH) for this amazing opportunity. It was such an honor to have worked along side of such talented actors and I’m beyond blessed for your friendship. Most of all thank you General Hospital fans.”

So, what did you think of Dev being killed-off? Will you miss Ashton? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.

Thank you General Hospital. Honored to be part of television history not only on this show, but to be among the first actors back to work in town post-Covid.
