Michael Blake Kruse Exits General Hospital as Rory Gets the ‘Hook’
On Friday’s General Hospital, try as they might, Finn (Michael Easton), Portia (Brooke Kerr) and Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) were unable to save the life of Dr. Rory Cabrera after he coded. Thus, the ‘hook’ killer claimed another victim.
At least, the big-hearted officer got to have one last goodbye with his girlfriend, Trina (Tabyana Ali) before he passed on, leaving a guilt-ridden and devastated Trina behind.
But the death of Rory on-screen, means we have to say goodbye to actor Michael Blake Kruse who debuted in the role of back in March, and has been a spoiler, or shall we say, a thorn in Spencer Cassadine’s (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) side, since Rory was capable of sharing his feeling with Trina, while Spencer kept tripping himself up.
Kruse shared his “Rory’ post-mortem and goodbyes via social media on Saturday. Michael expressed: “Many thanks to everyone who sent me supportive messages in light of Rory Cabrera leaving the GH Canvas. I enjoyed playing the character and valued his essence. Yes, he was unsophisticated and naive but at least he was genuine. In particular with Trina, he was always sincere and had her best interests at heart. That has to count for something Sprina fans.”
Michael went on to say about his GH alter-ego: “Rory was a mediocre cop, at best, but Port Charles isn’t the easiest down to police. He was also equipped with a holster from the 70’s, no radio, and no bullet proof vest. Above all, I had the pleasure of working with some incredible people and have a newfound respect for everyone involved in daytime tv. It’s easy to critique but not easy to create. All my love and appreciation to the fans who have been supportive along the way.”

Prior to the statement, Kruse took to his Instagram Story on Thursday night and Friday with a post announcing his exit. In it, he shared a photo from the ABC soap opera dressed in Rory’s officer blues with two x’s over his eyes with the tag: “R.I.P. Rory… You gotta be quicker than that.” Throughout his time on GH, Michael always showed grace and humor on social media.

Courtesy/ABC
Friday’s GH also featured a heartbreaking performance from Tabyana Ali as Trina goes through sorrow and grief upon Rory’s death.
During his GH run, Michael has also been one busy actor appearing on Chicago P.D. and shooting roles in motion pictures and more. So, be on the lookout for more of Kruse in the months to come in several projects.
What do you think of GH deciding to kill-off Rory? With the information that supposedly Esme was at Wyndemere at the time of the murder, who do you think is now the prime suspect, if it’s indeed a woman with a hoop earring as new evidence indicated? What did you think of Taybana Ali’s performance? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
I thought the character was unnecessary.
It’s beyond ridiculous that at GH, patients are wheeled out right in the middle of the corridors for everyone to talk to and cry over, as well as people discussing PHI with virtually anyone that walks in off the street (“How’s he doing?” “Well, he has…”). But what I noticed was Gregory Harrison giving a look for just a split second, as if he knew something.
whynot
I guess We were thinking the same thing.
The character became expendable after the actor landed more lucrative roles and went recurring. Rory was a little more than a background player with little character development. Kruse did a decent job with what he was given. Rory was neither a doctor or detective as written in the first paragraph.
As for Ali – maybe I’m just not seeing it. Wasn’t moved by her performance. It’s tough to portray grief at such a young age. It wasn’t as bad as Kiki’s reaction to Silas’ death, but Hayley Erin greatly improved after. Here’s hoping history repeats itself.
On a positive note, I’ve really come to appreciate Tanisha Harper’s take on Jordan. Of course the chem-test with Easton might be the road to boredomsville.
OG Steve, I’ve really enjoyed reading your insightful, spot on comments. I agree with your every point. However,I want to point out that Michael Eastman has not been allowed to have any sexual chemistry with his love interests since coming to GH. I did not realize he and Lizzy had not been intimate until she said so when discussing the paternity of her fake baby. ME is incredibly adept at steamy sex scenes as seen with his work on OLTL. There was one scene where Detective Michael McBain had sex with his boss, police chief Evangeline, against the walls of the interrogation room. They were hot! Evangeline reminds me of Jordan and I could see these two being hot together. They just have to let ME do his stuff- the writing for him has been just incredibly limiting and suffocating.
Hi Jill
Thanks for the kind words.
Good comment on Easton and the lack of chemistry with some of the GH women. I’d argue that he and Kelly Monaco had some when John McBain (Michael was his doctor brother who married Marcie) first appeared in PC.
And yes, Easton exuded lots of chemistry with Renée Elise Goldsberry who played Evangeline. More not so much with Melissa Archer’s Natalie.
Easton does have great onscreen bonds with Finn’s onscreen family. He also does the friendship route very well with Alexis and Tracy.
I’m sick that they killed Rory off but happy that MBK has so much going on outside GH. Best of Luck!
Rodd,
Loved him on Chicago PD but was hoping for a permanent role now that Jesse Soffer is gone.
Olivia Jerome is the hook …. Ava sister that hate her and sonny
Lester Wright,
You could be right, but haven’t seen her in years so why the heck would we be interested now, and don’t remember but did she hate her sister enough to try killing her?
She hates Ava, but she doesn’t even KNOW any of the other victims. Also she’s locked up, so not a likely suspect at all. She barely knows Sonny, for that matter.
And the only valid purpose Olivia Jerome could serve right now is to explain how she found a gravely wounded Morgan Corinthos after he was a victim of the bomb she placed in her brother Julian’s car, and how she arranged for somebody to nurse Morgan back to health, though with a new face and a new identity programmed into his brain.
And she probably better serve that purpose before Morgan has sex with his own sister!
Satan,
If you are referring to Dex, I read he is possibly a long lost son of Sonny’s, but Morgan, who knows?. I have to say I do like Dex better than Morgan, but there again Ava’s involvement had a lot to do with that.
Really upset with GH over this decision but glad to hear he has lots of other projects!
I think the hook killer will be Eileen. Or Esme’s nanny, but we don’t know her at all so that would be weird….
Who is Eileen?
Eileen is the deputy mayor that’s doing Victor’s dirty work. Hopefully, it’s not Heather but ADA Jennifer Arden (annoyed that she lost the Trina case).
Sad to see him go. He was a sweetheart!
Yea unneeded character.
Michaela,
In your estimation maybe, but are those of us that thought he was a very worthwhile character.
I was not moved—I am usually attuned to how deaths on soaps/movies affect the immediate characters, as I tend to cry over the slightest mishap—-I usually feel it to my core—-but, “Trina” left me numb—nothing. Why? The acting was less than mediocre—Just my opinion.
I am thrown by the accolades given to Tabyana. Forgive me, but the scene was terribly executed and uninspiring—she’s not a good actress. Her performance did not touch me—-
It definitely cannot compare to the truly heartbreaking attainment by Eden ( Joss) when Oscar died. The girl was outstanding—she mourned without overacting—-her pain pierced my heart.
Aye-aye-aye, Celia. I don’t know what to think. I bought Ms. Ali’s performance but I’m used to overacting (three 100% Italian grandparents and a Scottish/Irish fourth). But the big problem remains… Spencer. These two just DON’T, WON’T, CAN’T possibly make it — they simply don’t click. It happens even to great actors; Maura West was a trainwreck on Y&R because she was always mismatched. And Avery Pohl’s Esme will act Trina right off the T.V.! BTW, Spencer needs to get his post-prison hair cut or styled. And poor Cameron’s long locks seem out of character. The Elizabeth pregnancy/affair with Nikolas is by FAR THE MOST RIDICULOUS, ADDLE-BRAINED plot in many years. I can’t bear watching it!
LOL, Soaphound—I’ve been smack in the middle of Italian, familial drama and gesticulation since I was six—-I’ve known my husband and family that long—The difference is, it comes naturally for Italians and I love watching all their gestures—sometimes no words are necessary—just watching their facial and body expressions tells a story—-or the verbal expressions such as ..bo’ ( or boh); macche’; “ma vai a spasso” etc. are something else!! The Scottish? My grandmother is a riot with a sort-of-clean potty mouth to boot.LOL.
As I said, Ali is a little green—-she tries too hard—that’s the problem. But, be that as it may, my only worry is; she and Spencer as a couple.——Speaking of Spencer—-I can see him with an Elvis pompadour— yeah!! The style is back!! Can you picture it? And, with any girl on his arm other than nuTrina.
I know what you mean about Elizabeth’s fictitious pregnancy— A tapestry of a travesty. The irony would be if she were really pregnant with Finn’s baby. Have they slept together lately??
Maybe, the writers’ scope is to ship Esme to Cassadine Island after giving birth, thus making Ms Lizzie the baby’s Mom—Just a thought—-albeit, Avery steals the show each and every time. I wish there were a way for her to stay put—-the writers should work their magic and think of something—the devil made her do it?
I feel so badly for Cameron—sweet kid whose girlfriend is stabbing him in the back—-I’ve always loved Joss, but I’m losing respect for her—-she should just fess up and tell him she’s got the hots for Littlehands.
I thought I was the only one who thought the actress who currently plays Trina wasn’t up to the task. She is heavily lauded and beloved on soap Twitter, and so I figured I just wasn’t getting it. And I want her to be GREAT! But she tends to always disappoint me.
LOL, Jill–doesn’t it feel great you’re not the only one who does not place this opaque actress on a pedestal? She does not shine. But, mostly, she does not educe empathy…at least, not from me.
I’m not a Twitter ‘member’, or on any other social media venue except for this,—however, she probably has many fans who like her.
Nonetheless, it feels great on my part, as well, that I’M not the only one. I doubt I will ever like her—she just doesn’t have the right “make up” —only my opinion.
Agreed with all you said. Serious overacting by Trina. She dated for Rory for how long? And didn’t love him anyway. This Trina does not do it for me. This character has dominated the show all year it seems. I am over her love life storyline & the Hook. Joss & Oscar-wow. I can still get emotional over Eden’s performance.
Yeayyyy!! You see what I see, Gloria!! NuTrina is so off kilter for me–I cringe whenever I see -her .Cheshire cat smile, and beyond.
And, yes—I am done with her constantly taking center stage, as the damsel in distress—“look at me, look at me—it’s all about lil ole me….and the Hook’s gonna get me…” . I could appreciate it if it were Esme—she’s just so outer-worldly ( pardon tge pun).
Then, there’s Mrs Robinson ( excusez-moi, hmmm DOCTOR Robinson),who is a doc with tools of the trade in all aspects of medical specialties—as is Finn.
I don’t like Carly, but, at least, Laura is an amazing actress—she never bores me—except for scenes with annoying “Drew”.
Celia…I like Drew! :))). Not Carly. And am bored with Spencer and Liz with their daddy problems ruining their lives. Grow up. Get over it! Other than that mini-rant :)))
LOL, Rose—well, we agree on Carly—“me no like” her either. I’ve never been into Mathison–even opposite Sweeney ( Hallmark), whom I love!!!
As far as Spencer, I get what you’re saying—yeah, and all the drama with Liz, too. The never-ending-daddy- issues story.–Merry Christmas–❤️.
Hi Celia…Well, more drama on GH. Now to find a new Nickolas. It’s going to be busy. I’m going to concentrate on Christmas. You have a Merry one as well.
Rose, Drew is so bright, sunny and well… motivational. I fully expect to see him wearing a wireless microphone while ordering the citizens of Port Charles to walk across burning embers. He doesn’t seem so much like Carly’s lover, but more like her motivational therapist. This begs the question- why are the couples on GH so sexless?
Harry…Can’t figure why he’s even attracted to Carly anyway. It will be interesting if/when he finds out Carly paid off his contact to lie about Willow’s mom. I might call it non-passionate instead of sexless if I read you right. Have a good holiday! :)))
Agree with your comments 100%
Thank you–Happy and healthy Holidays!!❤️
OOOH NO OOOH NO!!!
Now Trina will be with Spencer ..
Trina #1 was perfection with Spencer..
Trina #2 is gawd-awjul with Spencer..ISH-
and they look ridiculous together..
like he’s dating a 5th grader..
worst match ever…
Seriously bad casting..
And-
before you throw a shoe..
Trina #2 is a beautiful girl, a good actress,
and if playing a different role she would be awesome,
but not a good Trina.
You said it perfectly, Su000. Even Meryl Streep can’t always overcome being miscast. That’s why Bette Davis never played nuns and Audrey Hepburn didn’t play schemers. Just doesn’t work.
Soaphound,
Hey! Just want to wish you the happiest of Holidays and the best New Year.
And to you, dear Violet. Hope you and yours stay happy, healthy, and warm. Maybe 2023 will bring us the best year in soap opera history. It could happen if they ditch Diane Jenkins!
SuOOO,
Would like to wish you Happy Holidays, Cali Is finally getting cold and some rain. I just had to agree with you on this Trina. I really don’t care for her, either with Rory OR Spencer. She acts like a 16 yr,old.
Violet..thanks for the greetings! 🙂
I hope Santa will be good to you and bring you all your heart desires.
00ooohh if you have been naughty, coal for you AHAA HA!
New Trina has been a horrible casting mistake..
Spencer is a strong actor and needs the same as his partner..
And- I can’t imagine Trina and Spencer kissing, eeekkks no..
Or worse yet- doing the nasty..
They are a dreadful pairing..
A friend, that checks out a lot of soap boards-
told me most all are saying much the same as us–
I hope Trina will be recast and Trina is placed in a role suited for her–
(((( I don’t know their real names so- Spencer and Trina will have to do LOL)))
I agree, SUOO!
Rory had potential as a character, but the writers didn’t do much with him, other than have him sitting shirtless at the pool as often as possible, which I’m definitely not complaining about, lol.
And of course his death opens up even more questions, like who was that mystery guy laying dead on the floor that not a word was said about, or why did Rory have the earring? The Hook Killer story has me wondering and guessing, that’s for sure.
I thought Tabyana Ali was very moving in portraying Trina’s reaction to Rory’s death. She’s obviously not as experienced in those type of scenes as a Maura West or Genie Francis, but I thought she did very well. It moved me, I know that. That’s my gauge on whether emotional scenes worked or not.
THANK YOU, Dan. I was beginning to think I imagined that corpse! I thought maybe a crew member was caught napping and they missed it in editing.
Dan,
I assumed after by what Jordan said to Dante or someone, it was another cop. That whole scene was crazy. I know Rory went to that apt. because of the address he copied but why did Dante and the others go there? It was like the whole thing was out of sequence or whatever they call it.
Dan,
What a dummy I am. That earring was so big I thought it was a bracelet.
Violet…You are not too far wrong. If I remember right didn’t Ava say whoever attacked her was wearing jangeling brackets?
It was inevitable that Rory a decent guy would be sacrificed for a useless,
spoiled, entitled guy like Spencer. What the heck Rory saw in Trina is beyond me anyway. This way she only has to feel guilty for a while, not her fault she didn’t love him but it was selfish leading him on when she knew how much he cared for her,
It’s too bad he was dragged out in the hall and put on display so he couldn’t die peacefully with some dignity in his room.
Meanwhile the twit Liz is still protecting and holding back information about Nick and Esme. I think Heather is the Hook, she has keys and the run of her facility. I just can’t figure out why. I’d say she was protecting Esme but she seemed truthful about not knowing about her when Ryan told her. I just know the Reveal will be some stupid thing out of left field.
Violet, they do this with EVERY story…drag it out until we lose interest. How long since vengeful Carly found out Willow’s maternity? And, at this point, the “hooker” could be Oprah Winfrey and I wouldn’t care. The Elizabeth pregnancy story is beyond ludicrous, it’s insulting. Anyway, my best to you and yours for a safe and happy season!

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

Photo: JPI
FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.
Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.
As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY
Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.
Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS
Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.
In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC
Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”
So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
