Michael Saucedo Returning to General Hospital as Juan Santiago!

So the plot thickens! Today ABC confirmed that Michael Saucedo , the real life hubby of Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth Webber), is returning to General Hospital as Juan Santiago!
The news which was confirmed by Soap Opera Digest, and first reported by Soap Opera Network, will bring back to the fold the character who is the birth son of Lily Rivera (Lilly Melgar) and Miquel Morez (Ricky Martin). When we last Juan the character he was leaving Port Charles for South America. Saucedo previously played the role of Juan from 1999-2001 on GH.
And what is key here is that Juan is the adopted cousin of Sabrina Santiago played by Teresa Castillo! So what is going on here? Carlos’ (Jeffrey Vincent Parise) last name is Rivera, and Juan is on his way back, what does this mean for Sabrina? What do you think will happen given Carlos’ ties to the mob, and Robin (Kimberly McCullough) trying to make her way back to Port Charles? Could Juan be coming back for a wedding? Weigh-in!
Well if there is a wedding that Robin has to interrupt, during Nov. sweeps, which seems to be direction this is heading– then yes Sabrina needs some relatives to make it more plausible—-although given the number of people on this site that don’t like this character I can’t imagine them being too thrill they are expanding the Santiago clan. But it is good there is a Latino presence in Port Charles, I just hope it isn’t too stereotypical to be useful.
Yeah, OLTL made it part of the canvas. GH has never done as well as OLTL on this stuff….
A better idea would be to just ship “Sappy” back to where ever the heck she originated….with Carlos in tow. I simply cannot understand this notion about “establishing” a Latino presence in PC….excuse me, but there has been one for a VERY long time in the persona of the leading character for decades, “Sonny Corinthos.!,” He already fills that bill, and has had other family members come and go on a regular basis….perhaps people don’t even think of him as such since he doesn’t portray himself in a stereotypical fashion? Plus, what about Alcazar? That was not that so many years back. For at least the past thirty years, there have always been ethnic roles on GH (Black, Asian, Arab, Hispanic, etc….), so why do some people behave as if it has been nothing but a non-stop parade of lily white anglos????
Because they would like to see 100% latino. Give me a break. Gee there hasn’t been any Jews present on GH. The show is about peoples lives, not about their ethnic background.
So right you are, Cheryl!…..I have NEVER understood the obsession with “identity casting.” I simply crave accomplished actors/actresses and stimulating storylines…..in whatever kind of “packaging” they arrive!!! I think we can see what happens when certain characters are cast more for what they are than for the talents they can bring….not to name any names!!!! Port Charles is supposed to be a Northeastern American city, not a Southern outpost for a telenovela!!!! And you are also correct regarding Jewish roles….the last one was the accountant that Faison plugged on the pier! In a state like New York, there should be MANY inhabitants of that particular religious persuasion represented, but for some reason, our friends of that faith don’t need to constantly complain about that oversight. Interesting….
sonny is italian not latino!
@Joey FRANK….Actually, no. Sonny is of Greek and Irish heritage on his father’s side and half-Cuban courtesy of his mother. (Check out the page entitled “Sonny Corinthos” on Wikipedia….it gives a detailed character analysis.) I never knew the specific breakdown of Corinthos’ ethnic background, but I was aware that he had Latino blood through his maternal parentage.
Kinda digging the show right now. Quit for a few months, I just can’t STAND New Lu, ugg. Worst since Carly 3, yuck.
Well, I’ve never liked ANY of the Carlys- the character is a royal pain. Too pushy, too self-righteous, and she has NEVER paid for what she did to A.J. and Tony Jones. Rylan’s Lulu does seem a bit more strident than Berman’s- I wonder if TPTB are secretly trying to get her back.
I have really big scoop for all of you. the rumor is someone else will come back from the dead. Sonnys daughter is sabrina. that’s what i hear. the person who is coming back from the dead is juans mother. sonnys wife supposely died in an explosion. maybe lily melgar is coming back to gh.
you are 100 % right lilli will be alive an sabrina is sonnys daughter
@Joey FRANK….Per your posting regarding Sonny being Italian: Actually, no.
The name of Michael “Sonny” Corinthos, as well as his occupation, is a reference to The Godfather characters Michael Corleone and Santino “Sonny” Corleone. These characters have a sister named Connie Corleone, which is alluded to in Kate Howard’s real name, Connie Falconeri.[7] Similarities have also been noted between Sonny and Tony Soprano from The Sopranos and the characters that surround them both.[8] Vincent Pastore, who portrayed Big Pussy Bonpensiero on The Sopranos, came on the show to portray Maximus Giambetti, father of Sonny’s bodyguards Milo Giambetti and Max Giambetti.[9] GOOD FOR YOU WHO GIVE S A SHIT ???
Sonnys wife her name was lily. lily melgar might come back to gh. That’s the rumor I’m hearing. she might be alive. she is sending juan her son back to port charles. i hope lily melgar comes back to gh. maybe ricky martin will be back eventually too. you never know. juan is his son.
I hope not! HATED Loathsome Lily with a passion! Let her stay dead.
she has signed on the the gh stages in the past month hate to break your bubble !
Since GH has not officially said how long of a contract K Mc signed, I wouldn’t get too comfy with a really long Patrick / Robin reunion. I find it amazing how rough people can be. Sabrina was not “this hated” before Robin was coming back. I can see it now, if not a wedding fiasco this will happen….. At the end of a future episode, it will be those quick back and forth shots, Robin & Patrick about to finally have sex, and Sabrina looking at the results of her + pregnancy test. LOL! Now THAT would really get all the hater ticked off.
I am a Patrick Sabrina fan all the way …….because I know Robin won’t be around long at all
Totally with you on that one, too. Hate changing all story lines to accommodate one person who might be leaving in 6 mos.
Hi Grace…I’m with ya! If you saw any of my posts on the other pages you’d see how I felt compelled to rise to the defense of poor Sabrina. LOL. The venom spewed at the Sabrina character/actress is ridiculous. i’ve found myself responding several different times. The want her to “suffer” and get her “heart broken” and one person called for her demise…And this is all toward a loving, caring, compassionate character! The wrath of the soapers….shivers….
Agree with all the comments from the PATRINA fans. When all is said and done, K Mc won’t be staying for years on end. being SO harsh to a character is horrible. It’s a SOAP….a DRAMA…. this is what is supposed to happen. Couples come, go, break up, get back together etc!
@rebecca1 (and Grace, too!) You are quite correct when you say this is simply a soap opera, a mode of entertainment, so I will pose a question to both of you, as well as anyone else who would care to comment: Have you NEVER watched a television program or motion picture where you felt an immense, intense dislike for a character? (The rationale behind your personal preferences makes no difference….) Say you simply found them to be absolutely annoying, extremely evil, staggeringly stupid, poorly performed or basically so banal that they made you want to throw something at the screen, and you wished them to go away no matter the circumstance? Be honest now….how many of us could say no to that premise???? Well, that is how your favorite little miss makes many of the GH fans feel….that does not make us harsh, mean or bad people. We just want her gone, because for us her very existence ruins the show. Period. That’s it! (Hey, it happens on many programs, but is probably more profoundly present on a serial due to the daily repetition.) Furthermore, at least speaking for myself, these emotions have nothing at all to do with “Robin.” I was never a huge fan of KM during her years on GH… my position on her was quite neutral…I could take her or leave her, so my derision regarding “Sappy” has nothing to do with my fervently wanting the “Drakes” to be back together forever….I have enthusiastically welcomed Robin’s return as a fabulous storyline for all those involved, and particularly, as a plot device to save Patrick from being the boring, wooden man that he has become since his unfortunate pairing with the babysitter. Had he been with Liz, Sam or even Britt, my attitude would have been decidedly different, since each actress (portraying them) brings out so many wonderful, unique qualities in JT when he shares scenes with them. Hence, I have very valid (drama-based) reasons for my opinions, as I can understand that many others do as well, having read their critiques here and at other websites. All I am saying is that we are being judged as unfair and uncharitable for our views, yet you are in the same way being likewise with us because you do not see things similarly. What’s wrong with just agreeing to disagree since it’s obvious we will NEVER be on the same page in reference to this character??? I can live with your “love” of the GBWB, why can you not do the same with those of us who harbor far less fond feelings for her????? ; )
@shay
I’m with you wholeheartedly.
a character – and yes… they just grate on my nerves.
and I’ll pinpoint two… that reach “I can’t believe this”
“staggeringly stupid, poorly performed”
no more snow globes for me
———-
I have to echo = Daniel on Days of OUR Lives does the exact same
——————
Welcome Back Jason Thompson
“…Had he been with Liz, Sam or even Britt, my attitude would have been decidedly different, since each actress (portraying them) brings out so many wonderful, unique qualities in JT when he shares scenes with them.”
and, I have to admit…. our passion for Serial… I decidely admit… I root fervently for the Serial to succeed… and can’t help but allude to the collective process – to better our experience
I am a Robin fan to a point. Watched her since she came on. That being said…love the Patrick/Sabrina match! Hope it continues even after Robin is allowed to show her face in Port Charles. Teresa Castillo is fantastic on the show and her and Jason Thompson are a perfect match on-screen. Hope she stays for a long time!
Carlos is about as stereotype as they come. I hope one of these guys will exit with Sabrina.
I agree totally. The Carlos character is the 2013 version of “The Frito Bandito”!
Too funny! Have to admit, I do find the “Mangy Manager (of Operations”…wink, wink!) to have a rather off-putting look. Whatever happened to dapper dons and fashionable flunkies???? It’s time for them to return…..to Port Charles!
I can only hope that RC and crew will not;
stop Patrick and Sabrina’s wedding by having Robin walk in..
That has been played to death in most every soap wedding..
Please RC remain original. ok ..
Actually, I’m hoping Britt saves the day by somehow stopping this farce of an engagement/wedding….I would love to see her be the heroine who puts an end to the entire appalling mess and reunites Robin with Patrick. Not to mention that it would be so fitting and fulfilling for her to be the one who wipes that self-satisfied smirk off “Sappy’s” smug mug….all of her gushing and gurning is soo infantile and sickening!!!!
Patrick and Sabrina might marry and go on an extended honeymoon before Robin is revealed alive…Robin shows up at the church but Faison and Dr.O grab Robin and return her to Cassidine Island before anybody sees her…Patrick and Sabrina marry and and go on their honeymoon…they are on a boat that becomes shipwrecked…they are stranded on what they think is a deserted island…but it turns out to be Cassidine island where they come face to face with a much alive Robin and Jerry Jaxs other hostages! No, but i wish it happen this way!!! lol
I love your idea! But what about poor Anna & Robert stuck in the damn lab! I just went through the roof when that happened. I have always been scared to death of that sliding door-when Nicholas came in & found Robin I was screaming get out of there before the door closes! Remember when Stavros had Lulu stuck in there? Nicholas needs to do some serious renovating of that place & destroy that awful lab. And Jerry Jax-My God, can nobody on earth kill this SOB? I cannot even look at him, he makes me so sick. He is not even the least bit funny to me-I was very surprised at myself laughing at Faison & Dr. O- But Jerry is nothing but disgusting, he deserves to suffer.
Im positive Nik will get rid of that lab once they are all free…Jerry is ok but Dr.O and Faison are my current favorite villains…I for sure knows what its like to be stuck somewhere like that lab…ive been stuck in stopped elvators twice in my life…id rather been stuck in that lab instead where they had more room to move…im claustrophobic as it is and had anxiety attacks in those elavators…thanks 4 reply Gloria!
the cryo lab is gone and that room is what was left of it !
@JimH
you knew britt’s baby would be kidnapped
you knew patrick and sabrina would “marry”
hey, impressive
just tell us Dr. O will continue to be who she is: “on FIYAH”
need her to stay
Oh yes, Patrick….Dr. O. MUST stay!!!! She was certainly a “wild woman on wheels” today….with her objective of total hell to pay for Faison!!!! Loved the two of them as “The Bickersons.” Along with daughter Britta and “grandson, Ben-Cesar,” their dysfunctional dynamic channeled the lines of a macabre, twisted family sitcom!!!! More, more, MORE!!!!!
Dr.O is a keeper…so is Faison…im sure theyll make occasional appearances like Helena…even if killed off they still can comeback…both are my current favorite villains!
While I have to admit Faison has been fab with his flipped-off frau, I was never that much of a follower of his before now. However, he and Dr. O. do make a quite a sport of splendid sparring….hope they stick around for a spell, then escape so that we can look forward to many unexpected future visits, especially from the vengeful villainess!
Really? Of all the past vets and characters that viewers are clamoring for…the showrunners figured Juan was one of them? He is a good actor and it will be nice for him and his wife to work and carpool and such, but I just don’t see the need for expanding this portion of the storyline. Carlos is sleazy and greasy…Sabrina without Patri!ck is somewhat of a non-entity….Lily and are both long gone. Sometimes the past is better left that way.
Johnny…Sabrina is a non-entity WITH or WITHOUT Patrick!!!! She is simply useless, and the sooner the ptb’s realize it, the better. Never in my life have I seen a more unwanted and unnecessary soap character….other than as the “GBWB,” of course, but those duties will no longer be required once Patrick’s wife and Emma’s mother returns…..who wants a poor substitute when they can have the real thing?????
…other than as the “GBWB,” of course, but those duties will no longer be required
hilarious… if’n you know what I mean
of course
It’s probably just for a few episodes that Juan will be back, and Carlos being connected to Lily is a stroke of genius at creating more story. I hope they aren’t bringing Lily back from the dead but using Lily as a catalyst for more story always makes sense … Lily dying was a key experience in Sonny’s life that has haunted him ever since. So I think it’s cool that they’re bringing back Juan for a bit to flesh out the likely Carlos story.
I like Sabrina! I am hoping she finds someone decent and does not go back to Carlos. As for she and Patrick, I was a fan but it is obvious that he is still in love with Robin and that isn’t fair to Sabrina. I am rooting for Patrick and Robin now because the chemistry is there and I like Robin too. Sabrina deserves someone who is kind and decent who can return her love.
VERY disappointing news! I thought Juan was a spoiled brat- he rubbed me off the wrong way. There is NO reason to revist that storyline. Also, Lily Rivera was the MOST unlikeable female character I have ever encountered in watching 34 years of GH, and that’s saying a lot! I was so happy to see her killed off- and they better not try to bring that self-righteous bitch back! She makes Carly (who I have NEVER liked no matter who has played her) look like Mother Teresa by comparison. Instead of revisiting the past, the GH writers should create new stories with existing characters.
You guys will get exactly what you deserve. Yes, Robin will reunite with Patrick and they will ride off into the sunset together. But you’ll still have Sabrina around for you to trash.
I like Sabrina but not with Patrick…
I agree.
I have to say that I really do LIKE Sabrina. I admit that I did enjoy her more before her and Patrick ended up together. I enjoyed the build up of their love story more than the actual love story iteself. I think that is how the show has intended it because of the way they are writing Sabrina in light of Robin’s return. It’s kind of a character assassination, if you ask me. I am loving GH even more than usual right now, of COURSE.
I think the writers are relying too much on the past. Can’t they write in the future, with brand new storylines.??? There are new fans, who never watched GH in the 1980’s, and are lost. It makes it difficult to watch with everybody coming back from the dead. Nobody really dies in GH. Not realistic at all. Of course we are dealing with a soap opera.
I can empathize with your thoughts, but you have to realize that those of us who grew up in that wonderful era have the best GH memories, and it has been so marvelous revisiting all those past characters and storylines. Being that this is the 50th anniversary for the soap, I think that also enters into the nostalgic atmosphere that is so currently present….but I actually do feel sorry for the uninitiated viewers who are not up on PC history, because very few of the fresh roles and storylines being introduced will ever compare with those from the show’s heyday….Britt and Dr. O.’s adventures excepted!!!! Also, the talent level of the newbies rarely matches that of the veterans, so whatever is not a redux really is not that notable. Hopefully, that will change….if Cartini would just drop the lost cause characters (of which there are still too many….) instead of trying to force us to like them, then be more judicious in their addition of future introductions, perhaps the “boring” filler days might actually become as exciting as the frontburner episodes! That being said, if you ever have questions about the “glory days,” just come here…most people are very nice about filling in the gaps!
Robin needs to be back before the “wedding”!!! The night before. It will be completely wrong if Patrick marries Sabrina and then finds out Robin’s alive!!…I like Sabrina but Robin & Emma & Patrick belong together!!
I don’t mind seeing Juan back as long as the rumours about lily coming back aren’t true!!!
I would prefer Sabrina to hook up with A.J.- since apparently Elizabeth has tossed him out like yesterday’s laundry. Both would be nursing broken hearts and would come together in a ‘misery loves company’ scenario. He’d be much better for her than that idiot Carlos.
Patrick will be with sabrina in the end him and robin cannot live happily ever after too much has happened

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.
Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.
As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY
Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.
Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS
Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.
In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC
Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”
So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do?
