This morning, nominations were announced for the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards to be handed out on
live on Sunday night January 12th at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT only on NBC.  The ceremonies will once again be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler!  Each year the Golden Globes honors the best in motion pictures an television as deemed by The Hollywood Foreign Press Association!

And for primetime soap opera fans, there were a couple of notable nominations! First off, Hayden Panettiere scored a nominee for her portrayal of feisty country and western singer, Juliette Barnes on ABC’s Nashville in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Television  Series, Mini-Series or Special category!  Hayden will compete against Jacqueline Bisset for Dancing on the Edge, Janet  McTeer, The White Queen, Monica Potter, Parenthood, and Sofia Vergara for Modern Family!

And as for Downton Abbey, which is out about to premiere its fourth season in early January on PBS stateside, the upstairs/downstairs period drama scored a nomination in the Drama Series category! However, “Downton” is up against some pretty heavyweight competition including the odds-on favorite, Breaking Bad, The Good Wife, Masters of Sex and House of Cards!

In addition, there has been much talk this morning that Oprah Winfrey was snubbed for a Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture category for her role in The Butler, especially since just yesterday, she received a nod in the SAG Awards for her performance!
