NY Post: Oprah's OWN Decision To Carry AMC & OLTL Is Low-Risk High-Yield!

Courtesy/TOLN
Since Oprah Winfrey’s OWN cable network announced their “Summer Fling with the Soaps”, which means, starting Monday July 15th fans can see the first 40 episodes of All My Children and One Life to Live produced by Prospect Park and TOLN, there has been a lot of talk as to why now would Oprah take on the soaps, when she wouldn’t before.
As fans of AMC and OLTL know, the first 40 episodes will be rebroadcast over the summer by OWN starting from episode number one of both shows.
The New York Post weighed-in on this summer acquisition by OWN stating in their headline that the decision to air the soaps both are low-risk and high-yield for Oprah’s network who has struggled at times to find an identity and a hit. Now with the success of Tyler Perry’s nighttime soap airing on OWN, The Haves and the Have Nots, AMC and OLTL are poised to be a hit as well.
New York Post’s Michael Starr said this about the move to bring AMC and OLTL on for the summer: ” OWN cable network’s deal to air repeats of online-only soaps All My Children and One Life to Live is a savvy business decision. Not only will it return both soaps to “mainstream” TV — albeit cable, and only for a limited run — but it will likely draw more eyeballs to OWN, which has made some viewership strides of late but is still struggling to forge an identity in the crowded cable landscape. “
Starr also noted the demise of SOAPnet being an opportunity for OWN to strike and bring other soaps over to the fold: “It’s also interesting to note that Disney/ABC-owned SoapNet, which aired reruns of both AMC and OLTL when they aired on the corporate mothership, is struggling — and has lost carriage on many cable and satellite providers who’ve opted instead for Disney Junior as the once-powerful daytime soap genre continues to shrink (only four soaps remain on NBC, ABC and CBS). Now OWN can tap into that niche, as well.”
NOTE: The NY Post article is not clear on one thing: Disney/ABC decided to drop SOAPNet and replace it with Disney Junior. So the cable providers were offered that. Many cable providers did not want to drop SOAPnet in the first place, which is one of the reasons some cable providers still continued to air SOAPnet.
So what do you think AMC and OLTL fans? Savvy business move on OWN’s part to bring All My Children and One Life to Live into their programming block? Do you want OWN to also acquisition General Hospital and Days of our Lives from SOAPnet too? Will you be tuning into watch AMC and OLTL so we can show OWN that soap fans will drive up their networks ratings? Share your thoughts below!
Well I am excited that Oprah is doing this even if it is the 1st 40 episodes. I am caught up on both soaps so I won’t re-watch but my hope that if it does well then I can continue to watch it on her network going forward. I currently have huluplus and it would be nice not to pay the $7.99 month to watch my revived soaps. I am thinking that if it does well maybe Oprah will pick them up. So we all need to support this. Forget about what she said in the past and let’s move forward in hopes that the summer fling is a success for her to rethink what she turned down.
The only way these shows have any chance at all to get an extended run on OWN is if AMC & OLTL bring in really big numbers. That will NOT happen unless ALL fans tune in…whether or not you’ve seen it first run you really NEED to be watching when these shows air on OWN! This “Summer Fling” is probably a trial run and if they don’t get enough people watching you can rest assured that Ms. Winfrey will pull the plug and they will NEVER air permanently. PLEASE WATCH!
I agree – PLEASE WATCH!!! Even tho’ I watch OLTL online I’m going to tune in to OWN to convey my hopes that she’ll carry them in the future. Hope this helps her and so glad Disney is feeling unloved-lol!!! ABC/D sucks!
Agreed JoAnn. Just keep the TV on in the background on OWN at the right times, even if you don’t watch it.
I’ll watch on OWN in hopes ANOTHER cable channel outbids OWN for the permanent rights to show the soap re-runs. If ABC had any sense they’d run the soaps on.. wait for it.. SOAPNET!!!! But they are so busy trying to prove to the world the soap genre is dead, they aren’t going to do that. TVGN seems like they want to be a player with the recent acquisition of YR re-runs.
Don’t you think that Oprah would have a much better idea of how well soaps would do on her Own Network if she aired up to date soaps? All soap fans are caught up on soaps and will have no reason to watch the reruns. She will have no idea how powerful fans are.
I don’t want to watch repeats.. If she aired the new and up to date episodes then
you would get a lot more viewers.. That’s what I think,
She has no choice. PP is contractually obligated NOT to run them simultaeously on American TV until September (remember, they got all the unprecedented pay cuts and discounts with the actors and the crews based on the fact that they were a Web only series in America). This is likely a way to see if there is enough interest before Oprah decides if she wants to be first in the ring come September when PP has the ability to find a TV home in the U.S. That is, I assume, when their exclusive deal runs out with Hulu…who now has exclusive first run rights in the United States. The test run will give Oprah the data she needs to decide what to do in September, but hopefully she will consider the fact that the fact that they are reruns means they are only pulling part of their potential.
There are still fans that don’t have computers and don’t get to see any of AMC N OLTL
But all fans are NOT caught up. There are lots of people like my mom who do not have high speed internet access and some don’t have computers at all. My mother is thrilled at this opportunity to be able to watch OLTL on TV again.
You don’t need to pay $7.99 for Hulu+ unless you watch by phone or tablet. Simply enter the name of the show in the search and save it.
When you’re ready to watch:click on “More” and then “Shows You Watch”.
A list of favorite shows will appear. Click on a show(AMC,for example)
An “Episodes” tab will appear with a number in parenthesis indicating number of eps available(number varies online or by phone/tablet.) Hope that helps.
ETA:Those newest eps will be listed first.
You don’t have to pay the $7.99 a month..You can watch them on regular Hulu for FREE! Huluplus is the one you have to pay but again not on the regular Hulu.. This is for Lisa M.
ok
I was excited to see Oprah is now carrying these shows. However, trying to watch them is very difficult. They are showing them out of sequence and also have back to back episodes of the exact same show. In order for this to work they need to be show in the correct order.
I’m glad OWN is finally coming to their senses. I think that bringing on the soaps will be a good thing for them (like the fans said when they begged Oprah to take them on last year!) Not a fan of Oprah but I will watch while the shows are on even though I’ve already seen. I am in an area that has not had SoapNet in forever so if they brought other soaps on board I would watch too. Personally I think it can only help her network.
Love the fact that OWN will be showing the first 40 episodes of AMC and OLTL…will we be able to see the shows in Canada. Currently there are a few shows on OWN that are not broadcast in Canada.
As far as I have read Andi..OWN Canada will not be airing either soap..I am so disappointed..It’s not fair as so many Canadians have been watching these shows as long or longer than some Americans..I feel ripped off..
Own is not part of my cable package…but im glad that someone is carrying the shows…this could bring new viewers to the soaps as well as former viewers who might have the channel and not internet.
I just could not get use to watching Soaps on a computer, watched part of the first episode and shut it off. I am so happy Oprah decided to air AMC & OLTL, a very smart move on her part. I know there will be lots of very happy Soap fans. Thanks Oprah!!
I do not understand this reasoning at all. Not being rude here, but a tv and a computer monitor look exactly the same. They are a box with a screen. Your turn them on, pick your channel, sit back, and watch.
Do you have a flat screen TV because all you would need is an HDMI cable hooked to your computer and there you are…soaps on your TV screen.
Yes I will watch. Bring all the soaps on and I will watch it all day long and probably never change the channel.
me too sarah
I just want to know if they are going to continue to air new episodes on Hulu or if after the 40 we have to wait and see again, now that this has developed?
Hulu will continue to air them. I have seen all the 40 episodes already … Waiting for the new episodes to air on Hulu in Aug…
How could you have seen all 40 already? They have only shown 25 episodes so far.
A good move on her part….i’ll watch …a lot of fans are upset that she didn’t take the failing soaps GL & ATWT too when she might have been able to save them. I was too, but, that was then & this is now…we can all benefit from this.
won’t watch. I have no problem watching them on Hulu and I wouldn’t give her the satisfaction of adding to her billioin dollar plus empire. she could have aired these from the beginning and chose not to. The New York Post didn’t write anything that a lot of us already realized; she’s running them at low risk to her and with a potential of great risk to her ratings Therefore, she built the Oprah show on network TV because of her huge fan base…got incredibly rich off of it…abandoned the same fans when she wouldn’t revive the soaps…now is counting on the same fans to boost OWN.
Sorry I LOVE OLTL but not via Oprah.
AMEN, Rebecca!!! That’s what I’ve been saying. When the fans first pleaded with her she said if she thought there was a dime left to be made, she would do it. Like you said, now she wants US to help HER! Not a chance in hell.
Who cares if she’s getting richer, support our shows
I care! Not contributing to her empire…and I do support the shows. On Hulu. And anywhere else they may land.
Yes but she has a LOT of EMPLOYEES at her “empire”. So it isn’t just her. Those are badly needed American jobs.
correction: “low risk to her and with a potential of great BOOST to her ratings…
Hopefully at some point if that is the case they will air the shows at night. That is when I was able to catch the soaps. I work all day and am only able to catch them at night. Right now I am only watching OLTL on Hulu early in the morning (4:30am) on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I know I can watch them anytime but those days worked well for me. I look forward to the day when I can again turn on my tv at night and catch my soaps.
Nancy, ever heard of a DVR?
Annie, all of us don’t have a DVR. Do you have a life.
This is an experiment. Oprah will have to see if AMC & OLTL do as well in the ratings like The Haves and the Have Nots. I think AMC & OLTL owe a debt of gratitude for the success of Tyler Perry on OWN.
Also, let’s not forget that Oprah is a longtime AMC fan too! I am sure she was diappointed over the show’s cancellation on ABC. Her initial decision not to pick up AMC and OLTL was a business decision. Not that she see the possibility of success with it, she has remembered those shows and their respective fans. Oprah is dealing in good faith with AMC & OLTL and their respective fans. I hope the fans will respect her efforts. (But with some fans you never know.)
Yes! I suspect that the success of the prime time weekly SOAP Haves & Have Nots is what got her attention. Proves you cannot listen to the suits at one network and make judgements about would be good for another network.
I am VERY HAPPY and EXCITED about the return of OLTL and AMC to TV!
I am glad this is happening on OWN. I life on a fixed income and can’t afford the miner per month for Hula and my computer is as old as a dinosaur so this will give me a chance to watch it. Thank you OWN.
Hulu is a free service.
It would have been nice if Oprah pick up the soaps from the beginning..Then we would have been seeing new episodes and not repeats(which is temporary thing)… After the 40 episodes run and done with ,I guess that’s it for seeing them on Oprah’s own channel.
There are not 40 complete episodes yet. You are counting the MORE show on Fridays and Oprah is not airing those as far as I know.
I love the idea of available online first and then on OWN. I also think that OWN should acquire the broadcasting rights for Crystal Chappells online only shows. Her new series, Beacon Hill has 3 time Emmy winner Sarah Brown leading the cast.
I‘m sure there are many gay cable channels that would gladly acquire the rights to all of Crystal Chappell‘s gay-themed shows. I don‘t think that is a market Oprah is looking to tap into. Not exactly her core audience.
Love is Love. A well crafted show, by Uber talented cast & crew will be engaging … and something that I will enjoy.
It is just purely good buisness deal on Oprah’s part…..To giver her channel a boost in the ratings. Her station has struggled a lot with low ratings…This again, just a good buisness deal to Oprah. I am glad there are soap fans that will be able to see these soaps now, that coudn’t before….
Can’t wait. I stopped watching on HULU so I can watch on OWN!! I’m a few weeks behind. Evan if I had watched I’d watch again as I want them to STAY on TV
I have watched them both on Hulu and will set the dvr and watch on OWN. Thankfully, in my market Soapnet still airs on Dishnetwork so I get reruns of AMC and OLTL daily.
I am up to date with OLTL and AMC on Hulu Plus . Because I am a big fan of the soaps I will support watching them on the OWN network. If you are a fan and want to see these shows succeed I hope you will do the same. Thank you OWN!
I use to like Oprah. I watched her show every day. As her success grew, so did her arrogance. I am not mad at her about the soaps because she just made a business decision. I do think she has been humbled by her channel not doing well. I am happy that those who don’t watch the soaps online will have a place on tv to watch. I will stick with Hulu Plus and my iPad.
Whatever we say about Oprah, she is not stupid in business. Back when the shows were cancelled off ABC, people asked her to take them on. That would have been a HUGE, billion dollar investment to assume production of two entire shows that had just been cancelled. Her network was brand new then, and more than fledgling. It was too big of a risk. Now, when she has the chance to air pre-packaged, already produced shows that she has SEEN are getting high numbers elsewhere…she can swoop in and look like a soap saving hero. And she has….with her boisterous, self-promoting, horn-tooting “You asked, we listened!“ commercials. This is a test run, yes, but it has all but been decided that these shows will continue to air on OWN after the initial run. Oprah is not looking for quick- fixes, or summer flings. She is DESPERATE for the long term survival of her network. Unless AMC and OLTL completely tank and bomb during this summer run (which I can‘t see), then OWN will be airing the newly produced episodes of both shows. Oprah had NOTHING to lose and everything to gain here. She could bolster her image to soap fans, guarantee some viewers for the summer at least, and if things don‘t work, she can say “Hey, I tried?“ And if they do work, then she gets sure fire audience pleasing hits on her network without having to lift a finger or a production cost. This was a no-brainer and completely win=win for Oprah.
I agree completely. A lot for her to lose at that time; everything to gain at this time. And I hope the fans of these soaps will back her. “Don’t cut off your nose to spite your face” – WATCH & be happy!
i so agree – best post i have read so far!
I just skimmed through the above comments to see if anyone had the same idea as me. Did anyone think to look on their TV navigator to check when AMC & OLTL would be on? Some articles I read said AMC would be on @ 1 PM & OLTL would be on @ 3 so as not to interfere with GH. All well & good unless navigator is wrong. It said a marathon of AMC would be on starting @ noon for 2 hrs. & then OLTL for 2 hrs. on Mon. & Tues. Of course, Comcast has been known to be wrong. Did any body else check?
This is correct. It’s four shows a day of each for two weeks. AMC 12-2 ET and OLTL 2-4 ET. Personally, I am mad at ABC and won’t DVR GH on the network but on SoapNet. And yes, I know the Mouse owns both.
Hey, better late than never. Im really happy she is FINALLY doing this!!
Oprah use to love her soaps… now she’s (or her corporate guiders) are trying to leach off some viewers via this limited summer run. Shame on the Op! Shame on ol’ Oprah!
Either break out the tanning oil or get in and swim… but don’t play footies with us, Oprah.
Don’t slash a little on my cheek then say it’s not pretend.
Don’t tantalize then deny.
Don’t care much for Oprah!
Sure..I think it’s a great idea.. Go for it!
I wrote her 3 times concerning this. I said if you love these soaps as much as you claim, help em out. I wonder if she sees big ratings increases, she might pick em up. Folks, you all know what to do. WATCH.
Some of us are too damned old to sit in a desk chair and watch a computer.
In my opinion it is the best move she can make! I would watch all the soaps on her OWN network especially OLTL and AMC. This is what we need. It is ok to watch online but they shouldn’t be limited when all the other soaps can be aired on network television as well as online. 🙂 Would make me a happy girl again.
Simple put I love it WooHoo for O & AMC & OLTL!!!
im gonna re watch the episodes. hopefully enough people will tune in and it will stay on tv also. thanks oprah
Why just a Summer Fling? Most of us who are Fans of All My Children & One Life To Live have already seen the Episodes your going to Air on Hulu. Thanks to Prospect Park. Oprah if you really heard us you will take on these SOAPS Indefinately!
Most have not. Rebecca, there are a lot of fans without computers or if they do have computers, they don’t have high speed access. Don’t paint the world with a broad brush.
HELLO?! CAN YOU READ?! DID ABC GIVE A DAMN ABOUT ANYONE NOT HAVING COMPUTERS OR HIGH SPEED INTERNET ACCESS?…Don’t come back at me and say most have not and then accuse me of painting the world with a broad brush! Listen ABC Killed off our Families! WE DIDN’T WANT THEM TO GO ONLINE! WE NEEDED OPRAH THEN! Excuse me but don’t criticize me for my words when you don’t know what the hell your talking about!
I absoluely will! Even though I currently am watching both episodes on Hulu plus, I totally look forward to OWN summertime soap fling. It’s great to be part of soap opera history!
In regards to me paying $7.99 mo got huluplus, I do not like watching the soaps online. I prefer having the box to stream on the television as well as other programs. I think Oprah Is showing the first 40 episodes previously scene as a trial run. Now I am caught up but there are people who would love to watch. So lets support this guys by watching OWN. I think this is a trial run. Yes we all remember what Oprah said previously but let’s move on and support this.
Why do people pay $7.99 a month for huluplus when hulu is free and both give you commercials? Personally, I get the multipass on iTunes which gives me 20 episodes and no commercials. Multipass if $9.99.
I’m excited. I’ll watch them again, No problem. I have hopes that Oprah might pick them up permanently someday. If not I’m glad their back and will watch them on hulu as long as their around.
great move… I will watch !!!
OLTL and AMC on OWN will get my views and a lot of other family members every time they are aired! Thanks Oprah!! I will not watch online! EVER!
i dont have cable so how can i watch it on own network? will it still be on hulu? i hope it will be on hulu
The soaps will remain on HuLu//
OWN is showing re-runs of soaps, the first 40 shows..
YAY Oprah! Thank-you! Thank-you! Thank-you!
However, if Soapnet is derailing, I do hope they continue airing the final repeat episodes of BOTH All My Children & One Life to Live. I have been watching them nightly since they went off the air, and it would be TORTURE to have them end before they conclude.
I am sure EVERYONE who watches the repeat episodes faithfully will agree.
Please keep them on at least until their conclusions.
SoapNet isn’t going anywhere.
I don’t know, Michael. The video she made announcing this is a smack in the face to us. We begged her when ABC/Disney first devastated us with the cancellation and she turned us down. I just can’t forget how she put $ before us. Now that her network is struggling – and they finally get that her fans were also soap fans that are boycotting her – which is why it is struggling – I’m still angry. Now she’s listened?!?!?! I just can’t forgive and forget. She owes us an apology. Having said that though……….like an idiot – I just upped my Cablevision package to include OWN and it will cost me $90.00 a month. She’s not worth it, but my soaps are.
You are correct about this, Tina–I’m thrilled for the fans that haven’t been able to watch, but she owes us a VERY public opology
I want nothing to do with Oprah or her network. Her statement about “hearing” us is too little, too late. I didn’t like her before and I don’t like her now. I’m not going to contribute to ratings that will boost her channel. She’s just using us. Here’s another thing – all those people who were complaining about having to pay for Hulu (which they don’t) are now okay with having to increase their cable package each month? I’m more than happy with Hulu and will support them because they were willing to take a chance on us. They didn’t tell us to bug off. Unfortunately this has the potential to end their run on Hulu. Many will opt to wait for these shows to come on cable instead of watching online.
i will defintly watch and hope they will do first runs soaps when new season starts
First to Michael, as always i’m happy that you remain one of the most fair and accurate reporters covering soaps. I too caught that in the NY Post article that they didn’t quite get the relationship between Soapnet and Disney Jr. right and glad you noted that in the article.
I do a lot of rolling my eyes sometimes seeing how soap fans respond to news – even when it’s good news they find stuff to moan and groan about; it often seems soap fans are their own worst enemy. Oprah simply did not have the resources two years ago to produce the soaps. OWN was an upstart and didn’t have the financial clout to pick up what is some of the most expensive to produce programming. Lest we forget it took PP over a year to do so and that was after a couple of false starts, numerous obstacles, and a total restructuring of the traditional soap production model. Let’s be realistic – what if Oprah HAD attempted to pick up the shows as a producer two years ago? She would have bitten off more than she could chew, the effort would have tanked and we’d in all likelihood be without the shows in 2013. It was not the right time or right place back then.
Now that the shows are returning to television (something that has been a #1 priority for those of us in the save the soaps movement), people are still bellyaching. They complain…
**That it’s Oprah’s network airing them.** She didn’t have to. She did so knowing full well that her comments two years ago would be put on public blast and just said “Someone else should do it because it’ll just provide me embarrassment if I did it.” Yet she still did it anyway. Actions speak louder than words and she put her money where her mouth is. She couldn’t realistically produce the soaps in 2011 but she can broadcast them in 2013. Yet people still prefer throwing tomatoes rather than send the thank you notes.
**That she’s not yet announcing a place for them on the fall schedule.** That will come in due time. But there’s two reasons for only committing to the first 40 first: (1) Right now it’s untested how much the shows previously being available online would cut into the numbers. This would be a risk and concern to WHATEVER network eventually got the deal to air them on tv. This could be a huge ratings success or it could be a massive failure and until she actually broadcasts the episodes and the numbers have come in, no one knows which way it will go. Once soap fans tune in and prove that we’re still supporting the shows, the announcement for a fall pickup will come. (2) Oprah would have had to have been in talks with PP before the union dispute was fully resolved. Before they went on hiatus, PP knew they had enough material taped for at least 40 episodes. It would have been unwise of Oprah (or any other channel that picked them up) to announce a place on their schedule beyond those first 40 when there weren’t a good guarantee that there would indeed be actual episodes to air after those first 40 (especially after the snafu with FX Canada.)
***That they’re “repeats”*** Technically that’s not quite right. These will be the first time these have aired on TELEVISION. As far as the television audience is concerned. these are first-run. (Comparable to how when a movie is aired on tv for the first time; no one ever calls it a “repeat” even if millions may have seen it previously via a movie theatre – if anything it’s a “television premiere/debut”) True, many of us have seen them but tons more will be seeing these for the first time. This has nothing to do with being on OWN – ANY network that picked up the shows would have wanted to start with Episode #1 of the reboot. (If they didn’t there would be mass rioting in the streets!!) Yet what people are missing is that she’s airing them at a rate that gets not only new viewers caught up to the stories but also the tv airings caught up to the online ones. By the end of that ten week run, after airing episode #40, the tv airings will be closely caught up to the online ones…so if/when the shows are further picked up for the fall season (considered to be the real beginning of the tv season), they’ll be able to then air episodes as new as they’re contractually able to. (And how great is it that the shows are back on tv as early as July when we all thought September would be the earliest they’d be back on tv screens? And much cooler still that they’re kicking off their tv runs on OLTL’s anniversary date?!)
A final note to those upthread expressing confusion over the broadcast time – Day One is different than the regular schedule because they’re doing a special marathon of both shows on Monday the 15th. The next day they follow their regularly announced schedule. As with any cable show, you should confirm with your local listings the exact time due to time zone/cable provider variances.
I think that this would be a great Idea. When Oprah left ABC for her own Company, I thought with ABC cancelling these two soap opera’s and that General Hospital was also on the chopping block that wouldn’t it be great that Oprah would pick them up and put them on her Network. I think that if she put these show back on the air it would boost her ratings so high that ABC would be crying. So here’s to Oprah for having the since to recognized a gold mine and doing something about.
Thank you Oprah.
leave soaps on
big soap fan but work a busy job and haven’t been watching them online. I went to a premiere party for the shows here in NYC and loved them, but just couldn’t get into the habit of going to the website. Thrilled when they cut down the number of new eps and thought I’d catch up, but never have. So this is really great news – can dvr them and watch when I have time. I hear OLTL is dragging but that AMC is on fire (glad that I’ll be able to pick up the Billy Clyde story, and to see Dimitri again)
I am of the opposite opion of you as I can catch up on both of the shows on HULU when I want to and don’t have to wait weeks for both shows to catch up on OWN to where HULU is now on showing the episodes.
I think AMC is dragging with this Cassandra storyline and OLTL is hot.
Let me say if Oprah was smart she would have picked up both All My Children and One Life To Live when ABC cancelled both shows as both shows have higher ratings then any show on OWN and would have brought a lot of new viewers to OWN which would have helped out every show on OWN.
Great news! Love the idea! Will have to DVR is it on in the daytime. Everyone needs to watch so that AMC & OLTL will continue full time on OWN! Thank you Ophra!
YOU SAID IT! THANK YOU!!!!
I was so upset when they took of OLTL. I have been a fan since the early 80’s. I am so excited that they will return. It will not be the same if Starr Todd and john or not back from General Hospital. It needs to continue from the last episode. I have not watched it on HULA or whatever that is because I think that is nuts. Oprah I give you KUDO;S thank you so much for bringing them back. I pray it is the same.
just to clarify….there are now two rebeccas on these posts. I am NOT the one who just “shouted” at Annie. Wondering if anyone knows how to edit or change your name on this site?
Everyone in Canada is DESPERATE to see OLTL and AMC again, so Oprah, we LOVE you!!!
But I have just looked at the OWN listings for July 15th and I don’t see these shows in the line up.
What’s happening……???
Just read with interest the above comments…If you like OPRAH or not, she can care less, she is a smart many faceted lady. Pairing up with Tyler Perry has brought us one of the best p.m. Soaps of our time. I am willing to allow her to make the programming decisions for her OWN , I can always change the channel if I don’t like what I see. As for AMC I will be watching these upcoming episodes and hope that she will continue in the fall…Oprah, you go girl!
All My Children
‘All My Children’ Episodes to Stream on Pluto TV Canada
Starting on May 1, All My Children fans in Canada will be able to see classic episodes of the beloved former ABC soap opera when they stream on Pluto TV Canada.
Pluto TV picked-up the All My Children Channel that the Nixon family has created in partnership with BEONDTV +. The show which aired for 41 years on ABC and ended on the network in 2011, had so many memorable storylines and characters; the least of which is the enduring run of Erica Kane played by soap icon, Susan Lucci.
As previously reported, starting with episodes from the year 1995, which was the 25th anniversary of the soap. Pluto TV Canada viewers will be able to catch 8 episodes on repeat per day. With the success of the venture, the Nixons are hopeful that they will bring viewers many more years of the show to come.

Sarah Nixon, producer, shared with Michael Fairman TV exclusively, “We are thrilled that Pluto TV has launched All My Children in Canada! Let’s hope the engagement from our incredibly loyal fans across the border will encourage ABC to bring it to the U.S.! We share what Aggie (Agnes Nixon) always felt, that it is the enthusiasm and love from the fans that has kept this legacy beloved and relevant – to this day!”
In addition, 0ne week ago, during Susan Lucci’s visit to Los Angeles promoting her book La Lucci, she was joined by her former Pine Valley castmates, Rebecca Budig (ex-Greenlee, AMC, now Taylor, B&B) and Eva LaRue (ex-Maria, AMC) and the trio posed for a pic. At that time, LaRue shared via Instagram, “NEW All My Children channel streaming classic episodes 24/7 now on Pluto TV Canada! Fingers crossed to watch soon on Pluto US.”
That was also confirmed this week by TV Watercooler’s Jeevan Brar who took to X and expressed, “The All My Children channel begins streaming this Friday, May 1 on Pluto TV Canada.
So, Canadian viewers, excited about Pluto TV’s All My Children channel? United States fans, hopeful from Sarah’s message that perhaps soon, we can see the beloved soap once again as well? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Mark Consuelos Mourns the Loss of His Father
Saul Consuelos, the father of All My Children alum and Live with Kelly and Mark co-host, Mark Consuelos (ex0-Mateo, AMC), has died. During an emotional moment on this mornings, April 6 edition of the syndicated talk show, Mark shared, that his dad, “passed away peacefully” back on March 23 following a long illness.
His wife and co-host, Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, AMC) paid tribute to her her father-in-law expressing, he was, “the greatest person I’ve ever known. I can honestly say I will miss him every day for the rest of my life, as I know you will, as our children will. He really is so symbolic of everything you are.”
Kelly and Mark’s children, Joaquin, Michael and Lola Consuelos are said to be taking this extremely hard. Ripa added, “This is the first loss they’ve ever experienced in their lives. And I said, ‘By the time I was 8, I had no grandparents. You got to grow up (with grandparents). You got to have deep, meaningful conversations (with them).”

In another moment, Mark reflected on his dad. “It’s funny, I used to make a joke about my dad … if you asked him what time it was, he would tell you how to build a watch. There were a lot of lectures, a lot of lectures and I learned so much. If he was fixing something in the house, he’d make me watch and do it. And I didn’t know at the time why he was doing that. But now at the house, I’m able to do at least half of the stuff that he did. I learned the most by just watching him.”
Mark added that Saul Consuelos came to the U.S. from Mexico in his early teens and served our county for decades, detailing, he “Ended up at Special Operations Command in Tampa. This young kid from Mexico just got his education from the navy. Was always going to school. Was brilliant. Got his Masters while I was a kid. He loved his country so much, If you’re going to put a face to an immigrant, he would be the prime example of what this country promises people.”
In a very heart-tugging moment, Consuelos shared that now its important they be there for his mother, Camilla. “We gotta take care of mom. We’re trying to convince my mom to move to New York. She’s such a character, she’s stubborn. What do you think, a cooking segment here on Fridays with Camilla?”
Now below, watch the very touching and emotional moments as Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa mourn the loss of Saul Consuelos.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Visits ‘The View’ Where Hosts Sidestep Controversial ‘Buffy’ Reboot Axing, But Talk ‘All My Children’
On yesterday’s March 17 episode of The View, All My Children alum, Sarah Michelle Gellar (ex-Kendall Hart), was the special guest. Since Monday, Gellar has been the subject of a hot-button issue since about the surprising turn of events that the highly-anticipated Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, in which she stars, and which was directed in the pilot by Oscar-winning director, Chloé Zhao, was no longer moving forward.
Gellar‘s appearance on the ABC morning talk show was devoid of any mention of Hulu cancelling its planned Buffy: New Sunnydale, in which Sarah was set to appear along with Ryan Kiera Armstrong. However, Gellar did discuss her new movie Ready or Not 2: Here I Come from Searchlight Pictures.
It should be noted that both Hulu and Searchlight Pictures are owned by The Walt Disney Company, while The View is produced by ABC News, which is also owned by The Walt Disney Company.

During the awkward interview, when it became clear the ‘Buffy’ reboot topic was off the table, The View co-host Sunny Hostin, talked about the “intense fight scenes” that have become a staple of her TV and film career starting with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Scream 2, and I Know What You Did Last Summer.
The ladies of The View also brought up Sarah’s beginnings on All My Children as Kendall Hart (1993-1995), showing a scene with her and her on-screen mother, the iconic Erica Kane, played by Susan Lucci. The discussion sprung out of another All My Children alum, Michael B. Jordan (ex-Reggie Montgomery) winning the Oscar this past Sunday for Best Actor for his role in Sinners. The View’s Joy Behar was quick to point out with Gellar, the All My Children alums that have gone on to great fame.

Previously on Monday, Gellar opened up to PEOPLE about being blindsided before while at the SXSW Film & TV Festival premiere for Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. “I got the call as we were stepping onto stage for the premiere of their own movie. And it’s also the weekend of Chloé going to the Oscars as a best director nominee for Hamnet. For them to call us on the Friday of what should have been Chloé’s victory lap for an incredible film, and my world premiere of something that I worked very hard for is… that says something.”
She went to say, “We had an executive on our show who was not only not a fan of the original, but was proud to constantly remind us that he had never seen the entirety of the series and how it wasn’t for him.” Deadline reports that “multiple sources” identified the executive as Disney Television Group President Craig Erwich.
“I loved the duality that we had with this new, younger slayer who was where Buffy was when the show started, and then we would pick up with where Buffy was now,” Gellar told People about the setup. However, according also to Deadline “After the pilot was completed and delivered, according to multiple sources, Hulu’s main note was that it played too young, with some indicating that the streamer also felt the show was too “small.”’
In the rewrite, sources also told the outlet that the writers did not take big enough swings, so they set out to do a rewrite it again. The last revision was more adult, featuring a lot more of Gellar’s Buffy, and was described as a more of a streaming show than a network one. When all is said and done there is hope that another Buffy IP will be up and running within the next couple of years.
