On GH: Is Franco A Twisted Freak, A Dangerous Man, Or Just Misunderstood? – Watch The Promo!

Courtesy/ABC
This week’s General Hospital heats up the story of Franco and Roger Howarth in a very unique way!
In this week’s ABC promo for its daytime soap opera, Sam (Kelly Monaco) exclaims to Franco, “You are a twisted freak!” While the voice-over announce adds, “Just when you think you know someone…”, while Sonny (Maurice Benard) exclaims, “He is a dangerous man” and then Franco extolls, “It was always going to end … like this!”
But notice … Franco is wearing a black t-shirt and leather jacket a la his brother, Jason! But then notice later in the promo … he is wearing a hoodie!
So just what is going to go down? Do you like what the writers are doing to the character of Franco, and giving meaty material for Daytime Emmy winner Roger Howarth to play? Do you think ultimately the show has to redeem Franco in a major way and this is the first step to doing it?
Do you think Franco is a twisted freak, a dangerous man, or just misunderstood? We know many of you have read the spoilers out there about the Franco and Jason part of the story, is that intriguing to you? Watch this week’s promo from GH after the jump, and then Comment away!
He’s a dangerous man who is adding much excitement to the show. He has many on the edge of their seats. Bravo!
I love that Sam gets to clobber him again. I am actually looking forward to this storyline, not because of RH, I just love watching Kelly Monaco in any role they give her and those two interact so well I am hoping they make them antagonizer to each other
I like Kelly a lot too, and I really feel for her that she’s being forced into these crap stories. She really deserves better as an actress.
No wonder GH is in a free fall in the ratings with crap like this. The show overall has been awful in the last two months and the writing has been downright putrid. I’ve quit watching and won’t tune in again until/unless this Franco (or as I call him, “Tanko”, since that’s what’s happening to the show) nonsense is played out. I’m so sick and tired of Franco, Kiki, and Silas. To think, three entirely new characters dominating the show played by the same actors who came from another soap that really shouldn’t be there anyway! And no acknowledgement from any other character they look familiar?! What a joke.
I agree Chris, you nailed it. It’s sad, GH was back on track and doing well. All of the actors they made such a big deal about bringing back (Genie, Finola, Ian, etc.) we rarely see. I’m struggling to hang on.
What if he’s really Jason?
I totally agree with Justin and Chris!!! The past few months have been HORRIBLE. I’ll still watch it (but my fast-forwarding makes GH about a 15 min show if that). I’m tired of the Franco storyline and quite “Frankoly” that storyline was NOT necessary and has thrown the whole show off balance. Storylines are left hanging for days. When Ron and Frank wrote for OLTL it was never this disjointed. What a mess.
“Tanko” – how fitting, LMAO!
I love RH and will watch him but I want him as Todd. I also really lover JF as Franco. I have learned to watch GH, dont read spoilers and enjoy the show.
Have to laugh at the “Tanko” comment but other than that what has happened to this show is downright tear inducing. How ABC isn’t humiliated by having to air this crap is beyond me. GET RID OF FV/RC, bring back a couple of talented writers, pay off RH and bring back stories for the GH cast!
Watch the promo closely. There is a shot of Franco wearing black and holding (what I assume is) baby Danny, and his face is still all cut up from the attack by Shawn. Also in the promo is a shot of Franco wearing a gray hoodie, and his face is not cut up at all. So are there now two Francos?
No there are not two francos He stll has the cut up face from the attack but the hood is covering a lot of the injuries and I THINK the makeup dept did not put as much makeup on that day LOL
Nope, not liking this at all. Roger Howarth is just playing Todd with blond hair and a different name.
That’s what I think too. Same with Silas. At first he seemed a bit “edgy” with that ponytail not he’s just a John McBain spin-off.
The GH version of Todd…the walking punchline. The true Todd airs on TOLN’s OLTL…the dark and twisty Todd that OLTL fans all love.
actually, if you’ve seen him on oltl, that other soap – what was it another world or something – and then on gh — Roger is Roger. I thought it was nice that Trevor ST. John imitated the Toddisms – you know putting his feet on the table, sloppy eating, being obnoxious… until I saw Roger on the CBS soap and notice several of the Toddisms on that character — and realized they are Rogerisms… so z So is the same for nuFranco… there’s a touch of what seems like Todd in there, but it’s actually just Roger.
I love whomever he plays. He’s fun to watch!
The only character that was a bit different than the fun Todd, was the character he played on Prey – which was more like the old, long hair Todd only worse behaving.
Nobody cares.
I love Roger…but not liking this story line.
I LOVE Roger Howarth in ANY role he is in BUT for me FRANCO is pushing it! For three years we were trained to believe that Franco played by the actor James Franco was the ultimate twisted sicko now we are supposed to believe he is redeemed because of a brain tumor???GMAFB. The gh writers are trying their best to whitewash FRANCO so they can move on and give him a juicy pairing. I am very sure they want to go the carly/franco route just like they did when he ways playing Todd. For me (i know lots of people were/are Tarly fans)i DO NOT see the chemistry between LW AND RH! I personally hope they dont go this route again but GH has an obsession with FRANCO, SILAS AND KIKI(UGH cant stand that name) and i am sure eventually they will. I hope they dont tank GH in the process these three are dominating a show that has MANY LEGACY characters that are underused and MANY MANY FANS TUNING OUT.
Ita! Exactly… We have way too many characters on the canvas before the three arrived… Kiki’s name drives me up the wall.. I keep thinking of Elton john and Kiki dee.. Can we please go back to the fun we were having leading up to the nurses ball when the characters were the ones I love… The ones that keep me watching the show!
You and the 500,000 other viewers that have tuned out since April… what does it take for RC/FV to get a clue!
LOL I never thought of KIKI DEE HAHAHA. And yes there are way to many characters on the canvas that are not used.
Lawd…
Franco going to be Jason? Viewers would…never mind.
no, he woke up after his stroke and memory is screwed up, so he thinks he’s Jason.
Ron is a twisted freak. What a waste. The best actor in daytime.
I have one word about this whole Franco storyline…..BORINGGGGGG
The whole show right now is just boring..It was so good just a couple of months ago and NOW is just a snooze fest (except the July 4 scenes with the bbq doll, that was classic comedic relief)..What happen??
In the end he will not be the real Franco. I think the story is awesome and I cannot get enough GH. Sorry folks I love the show in any way I can get it. I would never stop watching.
I’m with you, Nancy. I think everyone’s doing their best and love GH.
I mostly agree with Rodd & Nancy. I think the writers and cast are doing the best I can, given that they had to create three new characters (two out of whole cloth) for three established actors because of legal reasons. I don’t know if I’ll “never stop watching” but I hang in there and wish the constant complainers would find other things to groan about!
I wholeheartedly agree! I wish the shows were 2 hours a day! ;-D
The thing about suspension of belief for a soap storyline is that the viewer has to be rewarded with a good (well written) story. When the story is stupid, offensive, campy, incoherent and lazy in addition to being unbelievable IT DOESN”T WORK.
Opinions are like assholes everyone has one. That is your opinion not mine. You obviously do not know a good story because it has not played out in the least.
Gee Nancy,
Just because my opinion isn’t yours doesn’t mean I don’t know a good story. Are you RC’s cousin or something? If you look at what people are saying on this board and many, many of the others I’m not alone in thinking this is ridiculous. In fact, most of the comments I have seen are about five to one against this disaster (most commonly referred to as one hot mess!)
There are two Francos…the ‘real’ Franco is still a dangerous, twisted freak…he found Jason alive and gave him reconstructive surgery to look like him and programed his mind to think like him…this is RCs reworking of the Todd/Victor storyline he had done on OLTL!!!
The DNA test will tell ………………… 🙂
There is a reason they call him ReRon. Honestly, I can tie most of the GH storylines to something he wrote on OLTL between 2007 and 2012.
And theyre not half as good…im a RC fan and hoping for a turnaround.
After watching the little clip thingee…..looks like he’ll become the new Jason! That way they (RC/FV) can have their love triangle – Jason/Sam/Silas.
No way .. Franco will be nothing like Jason, RC is playing with us, as is usual ..
Franco will be Franco..
🙂
I love Franco!!
A mysterious character , I like that ..
Franco is not being written as the 1st Franco..
Franco is about to bring me some excitement and suspense, love it!!
Roger is totally owning the Franco character made for him!!!!
this has just begun, what is coming will be great..
the journey RC and RH will take us on with Franco will be awesome!!!
The end of today’s episode had me literally smacking my forehead. I don’t think I’ve ever had such a negative reaction to a soap. This feels like a rehash of the whole Walker Lawrence/Victor/Todd story from One Life to Live. At least that explains why Franco now has blond hair. Guess the real Jason is being held by shady government forces somewhere and we’ll see him again in 8 years…
I think RH is a good actor but the FRANCO thing is running a bit too long!!
I hope this story brings Sam Cassidine Morgan “Silas”( I hope her and Silas Get married by the
Fall!!!!! Together with her father in the mix also!!
SAM+SILAS+DANNY+HER FATHER—–(WHO IS HER FATHER???)
Please rap up the FRANCO STORYLINE NOW
And a baby girl waiting in the wings!!!
We had enough of FRANCO!!
Sigh. This show went there. The Franco-thinks-he’s-Jason-because-of-a-tumor route.
Okay. I’m hot and tired. I’m just gonna hold my tongue. SMH.
I am so disappointed with GH right now! It is silly- too many characters and ridiculous story lines. I like Roger as Todd he was good and funny too. I didn ‘t watch GH for a few weeks and sadly didn’t miss it. I miss seeing our regular favorites- Carly, Sonny, Patrick, Elizabeth with good story lines. Poor Sam, she is lost without Jason….
sam is not lost…..she will be alright if and when she get married
I am becoming a little concerned with GH. They are losing their spunk, their cutting edge. I kind of miss the mafia. Where is the excitement? I don’t mind that Franco is back, but let’s make the character work for us. It’s time to tie up some of these long drawn out stories and start fresh.
Where’s Jason, Jerry Jax, Helena (we all know she’s not dead), Robin, Diane, Johnny, The “REAL” Spinelli, why is his hair so short now? He looks like he has to be carded to buy a drink, Ned, Dillion, Ric (Molly’s father), Kristina (the original one), Big Alice and the list goes on. I know some of these people will have to be RECAST (hint, hint) but let’s move on. Some of the story lines for the newbies are just not necessary. Why not spice up with the classic GH that we all know and love. Writers, I know you can do better. I wont give up on you. I have been watching for 34 years. And I will continue to do so.
Franco has ran its course
Please RC, WORK ON SAM AND SILAS STORYLINE!!
A MARRIAGE
A BABY GIRL
I liie the ponytail he’s gorgeous
Rh playing Franco is a bust for ne
I am usually the first one to defend GH but the show is just getting bad And look at the ratings continue to go down.
The sad part is Ron Carlivati refuses to listen to the viewers of the show He has even started to resort to insulting fans who state their dislike of the show to him on Twitter.
If all this Franco and focus on Howarth, Easton, and Alderson continues, GH may not have long left on the air. So very frustrated with this. I wish ABC would step in. It is time to get rid of both FV/RC and get someone who can do right by the show. I realize ABC probably don’t care and may even prefer the show tank so they can cancel it.
When the ratings drop and the people in charge refuse to listen to the viewers and fans, never a good sign.
I have been one of the hardcores who stuck by the show. I even was willing to give the Franco thing a chance but it has been boring, dull, and far too much of his character. The show is going down hill quick. I hope something is done soon or we be saying good bye to yet another soap
The ‘Frodd’ character as I call him is a disaster. If they wanted to integrate Roger Howarth on GH without his OLTL baggage first of all, they should have given him a character who is the polar opposite of Todd and secondly, perhaps as a recast of Tom Hardy so he has ties to Steve and Audrey and the medical foundation of GH. After all, the show is called General HOSPITAL. Frankly I think Ron is starting to coast.
I just wish there were no Franco’s! What a mistake t bring the character back and have RH play him
He might not really be Franco!
Thanks jimh!
I just caught up with yesterday’s episode and heard who he thinks he is after the seizure. I am a huge Jason/Steve Burton fan and this has to be scond on my list of characters after Franco that I did not want RH to play! Not happy about this!
he might not be Jason…he still might be some unknown Quartamaine…maybe part of triplets for some strange reason was led to believe he was Franco and now Jason…i just wish the storyline would move faster…reveal who he really is…then start showing more of our vets.
Please fire these writers or whom ever try to resurrect these three actors into a different character. If they did belong in the show before, they do not belong at GH now. Very bad storyline can ruin any actor. Please find them another job. There is no way this can work now. Do something or everyone will lose their job if GH GETS CANCELLED. Very dissatisfied fan.
ABC please step from a big fan of GH for 20 yrs plus. Improve the storyline to exclude these resurrected characters and by hiring a more talented and innovative writers and producers.
RH/Franco he is a twisted freak but that is because he is miss understood by those he love because they put him down and let me tell you when you are broken down by your love ones or by anyone in particular your mind starts playing with you. take for instance sonny he’s a mobster he is twisted the only difference he pays people to do his dirty work not Franco he has an issue with someone he takes care if it himself come on seriously
And That is why RH/Franco is thumbs up for me the guy is freaking amazing!!!!

‘General Hospital’s’ Amanda Setton Talks Her Reaction, Scenes, and Co-Stars After Becoming a Daytime Emmy Nominee for the First Time (Exclusive)

When the nominations were announced for the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards earlier this week, General Hospital fans were thrilled to see Amanda Setton’s name as one of this year’s Outstanding Supporting Actress nominees.
It marks the first time in her career that she has ever been nominated. Setton has played Brook Lynn Quartermaine since 2019. Soap viewers first saw her in the role of Kimberly Andrews on One Life to Live during her run from 2009-2011.
Amanda received her Daytime Emmy nomination for her emotional turn as Brook Lynn learned she had been lied to by her mother, Lois Cerullo (Rena Sofer) for years, after giving up her baby for adoption as a teen. Little did she know she had a secret son living with her this whole time at the Quartermaine mansion in Gio Palmieri (Giovanni Mazza).

During an exclusive conversation live on Tuesday night, July 14, during the Michael Fairman Channel’s annual Daytime Emmy Nominations Special, she discussed her reaction to the news, her nominated reel and her GH co-stars.
GOING FOR EMMY GOLD
Setton explained how she found out she was a Emmy nominee! “Frank Valentini called me, our boss. It was such a beautiful moving moment. I’ve known Frank for 20 years and to share this with him, I’m indebted to him on a lot of levels. I was in the car with my husband. We were going for a hike. We got away for just a couple days, just the two of us. It was early in the morning and to share that moment with Frank, to share that moment with my husband, it was the best. We cried and I’m just so grateful.”
The Supporting Actress nominee shared what scenes she submitted: “My reel was obviously about the Gio storyline. It started with the scenes with Lulu (Alexa Havins) and shout out to Alexa! She’s the best. It’s when I first find out that she knows and that I had boy. Then, begging her not to tell Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and just to leave it alone, then into the scenes with Rena Sofer, shout out to her! She is the best. I love her. I spoke to her today. She deserved to also be nominated. They are the scenes right after I find out at the Nurses’ Ball, and right after Brooklyn finds out that Gio is her son, not her cousin. Then my reel ended with the scene with Gio in the kitchen when Brook Lynn’s first sees him after the Nurses’ Ball and she says, ‘We can work this out,’ and he’s like, ‘No, we can’t,” and he walks away. It was an amazing story and kudos to the writers.”

CHOOSING THE RIGHT SCENES
It is always important in the Emmy game to put together a submission, so that someone who doesn’t watch the show day to day, can grasp the story of what’s happening to your character. Setton explained how she went about assembling the choices for her scenes. “Between Michelle Henry (producer, GH) and Frank, they said, ‘You need to tell the story. Find the scenes that tell the story.” Once I did it was clear to all of us, the story has been told,” shared Amanda.
“Anyone who’s watching this reel can get a feel for the intensity of the story. I think after even the first scene where you’re just like, ‘Wait a minute! This girl had a baby? She didn’t know if it was a boy or girl?’ Now this nemesis of her wants to … ‘What’s happening? What’s going on? And then the mom knew the story? ‘ So by the end, your heart’s just broken for this girl.”
Initially, Amanda like the viewers were trying to figure out how GH would make sense of the story, where suddenly years later we find out Brook Lynn got pregnant at summer camp by Dante! Setton said, “Once they (the writers) started building it out and you saw all the different relationships playing out between her and her mother, her and Dante, her and Lulu, her and Gio, her and her husband Chase (Josh Swickard), even Tracy (Jane Elliot), and then the fallout of all of it, it just touched so many characters on the canvas. I think it was like a huge juicy burger for the fans to just take a big bite.”

AMANDA SETTON TALKS ON HER TV SON GIOVANNI MAZZA
In addition to Amanda, both Giovanni Mazza and Braedyn Bruner (Emma) landed their first ever nominations in the Emerging Talent category. Setton shared how she and Mazza have developed such a close bond.
“Gio and I are super close. Right from the start, we just hit it off. He is such a delight. He’s so hardworking. He’s such an eager learner. He’s always looking to be better. He always wants to grow. That’s a huge testament to his work ethic,” explains Amanda. “He’s an amazing person, and over the last couple of years, we’ve had many deep conversations about work, about life, perspective, gratitude, values, a lot of different deep things. I could not be more thrilled for Gio and this moment for him. It is well deserved. He has worked so hard for it. I really hope he wins. Although, I also love Braedyn!”
One of the most unforgettable moments of 2025 in the soaps is when Gio takes to the Nurses’ Ball stage after overhearing Lulu and Lois talk that he is the biological son of Brook Lynn and Dante. Ready to begin to play his violin, he smashes it pieces and storms off. Setton was in the scene and recalls, “That was wild. He did such a great job with that. That is not an easy moment to hit, pun intended. He nailed it.”

Photo: ABC
THE CONNECTION WITH JANE ELLIOT
On General Hospital, Brook Lynn is close with her ‘Granny,” the one and only Tracy Quartermaine, and in real life Amanda is very close with Jane Elliot, with whom she was able to share the news of her nomination. “First of all, this woman has become one of my closest friends.”
Amanda adds, I’m not exaggerating. I am confident to say she would say the same. We’ve become really close friends outside of work. We speak, almost every day. We just went out to lunch last week. She’s become such a close person in my life over these last few years. She’s such a leader. Jane’s a really special person in my life after my family. I wanted to share the news of this nomination with her and she was over the moon.”
HARD WORK PAID OFF
Getting a pat on the back from her peers is one of the more touching moments in Amanda’s career, as she explains: “I have to say we’re in the daytime world, so for us it feels so wonderful and so rich. But in the landscape of the entertainment industry, in daytime, we’re in the trenches. We work really hard. We have a ton of pages. We have a ton of really high stakes, dramatic work to try to do in a grounded, authentic way, continuously every day on television. Not that it’s thankless, because thank God we are employed actors on a network TV show, and we are also grateful. But, I’m not going to lie, and say it doesn’t feel good to just get a little ‘thank you’ or like a little, ‘I see your work.’ It feels fulfilling.”
You can check out the full live interview with Amanda Setton at the 2:24:26 mark during the Daytime Emmy Nominations Special Live below, which featured 13 newly-nominated actors sharing their reactions and what they submitted for their reels the landed them a nomination at the upcoming 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards.
So, are you happy for Amanda that she finally secured her first ever Daytime Emmy nomination? Do you think she is one of the frontrunners for the gold for Outstanding Supporting Actress based on the emotional tale of Brook Lynn’s journey to learning she had a son and it was Gio Palmieri? As the showcase kicks off, Simon arrives.
While his GH role marks his first on daytime, Grady can currently be seen in the final season of HBO’s comedy hit, Hacks. He has numerous credits in primetime including: Doctor Odyssey, The Sex Lives of College Girls and appeared as Max in the recently released in Jennifer Lopez’s movie office romance.

Do you think Trina and Gio will become a major recording act, or will trouble be brewing with this new music executive, and Brook Lynn will spell t-r-o-u-b-l-e? Let us know your thoughts and impressions after checking out Grady on today’s GH via the comment section.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Tells Danny: ‘The Place They Were Holding Me Was Bad, Really Bad’

What happened to Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) when he was captivity by the WSB? That is the question on many minds of General Hospital viewers, especially following the airing of the Tuesday, July 14 episode of the ABC daytime drama series, which also received a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series for the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards yesterday.
In story and in the pick-up of Monday’s episode, Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) comes face to face with his father at the Quartermaine boathouse. Jason assures his son that he is home for good. However, Jason is confused why the WSB suddenly released him from Jakarta in the last 48 hours.
Danny goes in on his father for taking the fall for Cullum’s shooting when it was Rocco who shot the now deceased WSB director. Jason tried to explain he had to make a last minute decision and didn’t want Rocco’s life to be ruined by shooting another man.

Courtesy/ABC
JASON WANTS TO TAKE A SHORT TRIP WITH DANNY
Jason promised Danny that from now on, he is his top priority, and that time away has given him a new perspective. When Danny tries to get more intel from his dad on what he went through, all Jason would say is, “The place they were holding me was bad, really bad.”
Danny admits that the person he told that Rocco shot Cullum was Port Charles bureau chief, Jack Brennan, but he told him that WSB would want Danny to drop the whole thing, and just leave it be now that Cullum is dead.
TRACY SEES JASON
Suddenly, Tracy (Jane Elliot) shows up and is happy to see that Jason has resurfaced saying she knew he would be back. As she welcomed him home, Jason has a favor to ask her.
Next, he proposes much to Danny’s happiness, that he and his son are going to away together for a few days to catch up on things. So, that there is no issue, Jason asks if Tracy can please tell Alexis that he has returned to Port Charles and anyone else that would need to know, so they are not concerned for Danny’s welfare and that they know he is with his dad. Tracy agrees, and she and Jason share a hug.
Now the question is, what happened to Jason? We know his face is beaten up. We saw in flashbacks he was held in a cell and we can see he had been experiencing what seems like PTSD from being in captivity.
Previously, GH co-head writer, Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten previewed to Soap Opera Digest on Jason’s return, “His imprisonment has had a profound effect on his outlook and how he intends to conduct the rest of his life. His decision will have big implications for Danny, Britt, the Quartermaines, Anna and especially Sonny.”
So, what do you think happened to Jason while being held by the WSB? Did something horrific occur? Will Jason tell Sonny he can no longer work for him so he no longer puts himself or his family in any kind of danger? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
