Steve Kent Reportedly OUT as Sony Pictures Television VP in Charge of DAYS and Y&R
On Friday, reports surfaced that Steve Kent, Senior Executive Vice President of Programming at Sony Pictures Television, is no longer with the company and overseeing the Sony soap operas, Days of our Lives and The Young and the Restless.
According to Soap Opera Digest, a set side source reported that Kent’s last day was last Friday, April 12th, which was one day after what would have been his final appearance in his Sony VP role at the Days of our Lives 15,000th episode on set celebration.
During that ceremony, Kent gave a brief speech giving kudos to DAYS for its incredible milestone. Days is a co-production of Sony Pictures Television and Corday Productions, while Y&R is produced by Bell Dramatic Serial Company in association with Sony Pictures Television.
Kent started his soap opera career as a producer for CBS’ defunct Capitol and then as the supervising producer of NBC’s Santa Barbara from1984 to 1993.
At Sony, before his role overseeing the soaps, Kent was Senior Executive Vice President of International Productions for Sony Pictures Television International department.
If reports are true, the question becomes who has taken over his position, and would oversee DAYS and Y&R from the Sony side? Share your thoughts on this developing story via the comment section below.

Very happy OLTL won most missed show. They deserved it. Actually I didnt mind the AMC clip. When Michael Knight gave AGNIS NIXONS opening of AMC the rich and the poor the meak… Etc. It kind of just placed “Agnis on top. We miss our soaps and hope to have a rebirth.
what vicki said at the end of one life to live broke my heart and pretty much said everything everyone was feeling ,so sad that we can no longer visit with our friends in landview, they will all be missed ,so i think that scene would have been the right choice to put on for the most saddest missed tv farewell .one life to live won that honor and thats the way it should have presented on the today show, all my children came in second.
I can’t believe the clip shown was of the show that was named number two….gosh…poor OLTL can get any respect from the people in charge…but the viewers sure do…. I know I am still sad over it going off the air and I am mad about it too!
That made me mad also. I’m glad I wasn’t the only one. It is quite amazing that OLTL never got its “due”, ever…even though it was, and will always be the #1 ABC daytime soap. Sad indeed!
What can I say. All My Children is the show that everybody knows, while One Life to Live is the show that only soap opera fans know.
The cancellation of One Life to Live did not nearly get the huge media attention that All My Children and Guiding Light got.
The mainstream media has always shown favoritism toward AMC because it was the show that Erica Kane was on.When AMC went off the air People devoted an entire magazine to that soap. When OL went dark they only got a few pages in a regular issue of People.
I loved the fact that Oprah came in 4th !!! BEHIND One Life To Live and All MY Children !!!
Perhaps in her address that she can not save the soaps and bring them to her network, is that she can’t even save herself.
ABC when will you finally admit to the HUGE mistake you have made?
I don’t like Oprah!!!!!!!!!! Stop watching her a long time ago…………. Her comment she can’t save the soaps by putting it on her OWN channel !!!!! She is such a PHONY!!!!!!!!!!!!! She claims people work and can’t watch the soaps… BOLONEY!!!! People have alway’s been working threw the years …And recorded them like I did!!!! That statement is a cop out!!!!!!!!!!!! oprah didn’t want to put the soaps on her own channel !!!!!!!!!!!!! She puts a lot of crap on her own channel.. Which I have no interest to watch ever !!!!!!!!!!!! All the times Oprah had the actors of AMC & OLTL on her show when on abc…………. And she doesn’t want them on her own channel !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is so full of herself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And she yells when she talks and screams in fact… Ex. These are some of my favorite things and then she would raise her voice and scream out loud!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Again it was a pretty lame excuse about not saving the soaps… Her own channel is garbage!!
Don’t like oprah at all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As you can read my comment on 2/26……….
I still miss OLTL & was upset when I watched the last show… I was in shock!!!!!!!! Thinking to myself no more OLTL!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh NOOOOOOOOOO!!! Never thought the soaps would ever be cancelled!!!!!!!!!!!!! I watch a movie at 2:00 p. m. M-F………. Or catch up on my housework…… It still feels wierd to me without OLTL!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will watch GH when the mannings & john mcbain are on in march!!!! It still isn’t the same!!! but I will watch it …..
I dont like oprah either ,she sure stabbed all the soap fans in the back.your right all she has on her stupid network is garbage thats why its not doing so well, never tuned into any of her shows ,but that would have changed if she took the soaps ,I would still not like her ,but I would have watched my soaps ,dumb mistake on her part ,the soaps are watched ,every one has a different way to watch them and alot of them are 49 and they arent even counted ,so I dont buy her crap about her reasons for not picking up the soaps,Im glad her precious channel is tanking,I hope it sinks even more.boo hoo, oprah, boo hoo.
susan m, the mannings show up this week ,tomorrow ,john shows up in march.I f we blink we will miss it.star was on friday ,shes in a car crash with cole and hope.
I don’t agree with ALL that U are saying and some of it I do. I have a post on here about the whole Oprah thing, Heather or Heidi and I were speaking about it. I can’t remember where it is, but it’s in the last week or so., so I’m not going to get into ALL of it again. I hope U see my post on it. But I would suggest, ALL OF YOU follow Oprah on twitter and say these things, so she can know soap fans are livid with her, and perhaps she made a mistake. My feeling about it is, Oprah has earned the right to make the choice she did, rather it makes sense to us or not. Heather or Heidi (one of them) said, it was her choice not to pick up two shows that were cancelled by another network. I happen to feel that Oprah is usually SPOT on with her instincts, but this time she missed the mark. Everyone can’t be perfect all the time! Just because she didn’t do this thing, what am I, “we” suppose to do, discount ALL the things trully GREAT things she has done, That’s wrong too. She has earned the right to say no, rather we like it or not.
PS. And she doesn’t yell when she talks, and when she is getting ready to announce favorite things, naturally she allows her voice to go into the surprise scream like people do when they say, ” Surprise! “
I’m sorry but I just don’t like Oprah……Her comments on subjects she talks about..People believe every word that comes out of her mouth… Because she’s Oprah, she muast know everything!!! That simply isn’t true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don’t agree with 1loveadcsoaps… And she misleads the people with this New Age religion………..She is totally wrong on that subject… I know I read the Bible.. Thats all I have to say about this… No more comments on this!!!!!!!!
Watching GH as i’m typing this comment… Saw Srar ..There was a car accident and Cole and her little girl are trapped in the car…………I will watch Gh only because the mannings & John Mcbain will be on……..I don’t know if I could get into liking the rest of the cast on GH………..It just isn’t the same for me!!!!!!!!!!! I still like OLTL best of all.
I agree with Barbara t . On2/26 at 1:28pm…..Comment about oprah……. Oprah is a good person but she is not God…….. Her New Age Religion stuff on line…Stop asing oprah what to do and turn to Jesus for help and guidance!!!!!!!!Yes stop asking oprah what to do!!!!!!! She is TOTALLY WRONG ON THIS ONE!!!!!!!!! Jesus is the answer for everything…………..I’m sorry but these comments ring true…
Susan M said: “Stop asing oprah what to do and turn to Jesus for help and guidance!!!!!!!!Yes stop asking oprah what to do!!!!!!! She is TOTALLY WRONG ON THIS ONE!!!!!!!!! Jesus is the answer for everything…………..I’m sorry but these comments ring true…”
Yes, I agree, Jesus is the answer for EVERYTHING, and since U know that, there is no need for U to get mad at Oprah for not wanting to pick up the soaps. Go to Jesus and get the answer from him since Oprah has decided to decline. Like U said, STOP asking Oprah what to do, go to Jesus.
Are you an oprah lover???(1loveabcsoaps) I know she has right to her own opinions & choose not to put the soaps on her OWN CHANNEL… But what I don’t like her New Age religion she has on her sight.. And she is misleading alot of people!!!!!!! This is what I and my friends object to!!!! Everyone beleives everything she says… She’s oprah she must know everything!!!!!!!!!!! This is the main reason why my friends and I stop watching oprah a long time ago when she was on abc…….The word according to oprah!!! My friends and I get angry because this particular subject she is totally out of line on this one… Oprah says there is more than one way to heaven(WRONG).. There is only one way to heaven and that is Jesus….This is why my friends and I don’t like her!!! and not because she choose not to put the soaps on her own channel.. My friends and I got over that a while ago… We don’t need oprah’s cable channel.. there so many other cable channels!!! Watching GH TODAy!!! Robert Scorpio will be on today… Hope Anna & Holly join him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
seriously,I cant think of a dam thing to say.I am at a loss for words.
Unfortunately, too little too late.
yes… we all make mistakes…. and yes the segment was trivial and of little value… but please it was rather incompetent and sad! Doubt either will make an apology… probably not even a tweet. We all know that OLTL was… and that’s what matters!
oltl its sad it is off the air.and amc too.and the replacement shows are really a sad state.
The relacement shows for the soaps S–k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1loveabcsoaps. Please check out comment by barbara t. at 1:28pm And two more comments for you to check out… Ck. below for 2/28 at 11:26am…..Marisa 2/23 at 5:06 pm & Emily 2/27 at 3:54pm…….
And my answer to your comment1loveabcsoaps) comment for 2/28 at 11:18am…
This my comment at 2/28 at 11:18am Read other 3 comments also.. thanks
Take that Oprah 4th and soaps are 1st & 2nd maybe you should have given more consideration to putting soaps on OWN
Oprah needs a major reality check. The soaps made Oprah. With out the devoted ABC soap fans she would be nothing. Her rising star would have fizzled many years ago. She needs to have an AHAA moment. She needed the soaps as a lead in for her show. She should have mentioned us in her gratitude journal. She should kiss every ABC soap fans ass because she is who she is because of us. I am not susprised she came in fourth or her network failed.
oprah’s own channel is a FLOP……………………..
She does have a right to her opinion but, she made the WRONG decision about the soaps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She didn’t even want to consider the idea………… Enough about her……………….Did ever hear the christian song where Oprah’s name is mentioned???????? It goes like this in short: ” STOP ASKING OPRAH WHAT TO DO!”
I was thinking the same exact thing ladies!!! So true!!! Her network would do sooo much better if she adopted the cancelled soaps. What a shame!!! I’m surprised that she doesn’t see the value in soaps.
Please read comments (1loveabcsoaps) 1. Marisa2/23 at 5:06pm & 2. Emily 2/27 at 3:54pm… As i sad there other other cable channels availiable!!!!!!!!
This was done on NBC right and they can not even get the correct reel! This is why I watch no news on major stations they are stupid. Oh who would I trade my husband for Daniel Craig #007 of course. Ha!
OLTL is an ABC property. Maybe NBC asked for permission to air a clip from OLTL and they were refused. I watch Today and they already had the clip from AMC because they showed in went it went off the air in September 2011
Soaps are not dying they are being euthanized by greedy executives so they can have the money for themselves. I hate ABC and will never watch the stupid replacement shows or anything else on ABC when GH is all done.
me to ,and Im sticking to it,its a shame that agnes nixon intrusted her stories to abc/disney.her adventures in pine valley and landview mean so much to so many faithful viewers, and to never be able to go back because of abc/disney greed is so wrong.cant understand why they dont give them back,as far as abc/disney is concerned no body watches the soaps anymore, will ok abc/disney ,then give them back to there rightful owner, what the hell are you going to loose?the pages of agnes nixons mean more to her and the soap fans ,you never deserved to have them for the 43 years ,you did in the beginning , but when disney took over abc it was the soaps demise.so Im with you cathy trinque,if gh gets canceled ,the only hour abc has with me,is gone.
A true travisty it is indeed. Well, one good thing has come of the soaps cancellations…..ABCD IS DEAD IN DAYTIME in the 1-3 time slot, and always will be….Us soap fans WILL see to that!
I voted for OLTL. Glad AMC got #2. The results didn’t surprise me at all. I wish someone would use these mainstream media stories to get some support to bring these shows back. The fans have spoken. Again.
One Life to Live was always ABC (and Agnes Nixon’s) red headed stepchild. If Agnes Nixon had a favorite, it was All My Children. And she was not one to hide that fact.
the oscars are on abc tonight, I wont be watching.you can find out who the winners are someplace else ,we want to sink abc/disneys ratings and tonight is the perfect time to do it.Im a soap fan myself, could care less about who wins the oscar.I can watch miss piggy and kermit on u tube ,the academy is not allowing them to sing anyway,I wonder why not.so what if there not real, neither is hollyweird.
the song stop asking oprah what to do has to do with her new age religion.. not about the soaps… she has no buisness giving pepole about religion… I read thearticle 2 years ago on line.. My friends told me about it… She way out of line on that one.. you can see for yourself.. go on her site about her new age religion….. read my previous comments.. Maybe you will understand better..
