Peacock Price Hike for Subscriptions Revealed by NBCUniversal Includes Days of our Lives

Courtesy/Peacock

For the first time since the launch of NBCUniversal’s streaming service, Peacock, the platform will have a price increase for subscribers of the entertainment programming service.

According to Variety, moving forward, both subscription tiers will have a price hike. The Premium monthly service (which includes ads) will increase $1 a month and go $5.99, starting on August 17.  Meanwhile, the Premium Plus plan which includes for viewers mostly no advertisements, episode downloads and live, local NBC channels, will increase $2 a month to $11.99.

Days of our Lives is on the Peacock streaming service.  That means the long-running soap opera, which moved from NBC after 57 seasons to Peacock back in September of 2022, will have this price increase for fans who want to watch the show as well as other shows and specials in the bundle of their subscription package.

NBCUniversal said the price change will allow, “Peacock to continue to invest in the best user experience and the highest-quality content while remaining competitive in the marketplace.”

Previously, Mark Lazarus, Chairman, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming shared on DAYS move last fall to streaming: “This programming shift benefits both Peacock and NBC and is reflective of our broader strategy to utilize our portfolio to maximize reach and strengthen engagement with viewers. With a large percentage of the Days of Our Lives audience already watching digitally, this move enables us to build the show’s loyal fanbase on streaming while simultaneously bolstering the network daytime offering with an urgent, live programming opportunity for partners and consumers.”

But of course.

Typical Scumcast move. Constantly raising prices, with no added value to the service. To the contrary, the available content on Peaock has actually decreased in recent months, especially the movies. And between the writers strike & the SAG-AFTRA strike, new content is going to be scarce in the near future.

As it is now, half of what I see when I pull up the site is Bravo channel & Hallmark…. and I don’t even want to see that dragonshit in the feed.

Even worse for Scumcast subscribers who weren’t paying ANYTHING extra for this service two months ago. Went from a $0/month to $4.99 and then raise it again so soon after that? Unconscionable. Fortunately Hellcable had a deal where you could prepay $20/year for Peacock, so I’m good through next June.

Just more gobbly gook bs from Mr. Lazarus.

Won’t be watching Peacock anymore!

want to continue to watch DOOL at the best price i am able to pay….hopefully not a lot.. already pay a good bit !!

Not happy.. I got it for free from Comcast till this last month. Days is the only thing I watch on it. Nothing else even remotely interesting there for me to watch. I will pay till Days is no longer there, then cancel.

Just put it back on NBC FOR CHRIST’S SAKE!!! They replaced it in my area with a news show…come on NBC….!!

The price of everything has gone up, just look at your receipt at the grocery store. That’s the thing that really makes me shake my head every time I go.

$2 more per month since I use the commercial free version of Peacock isn’t gonna break my bank. I don’t watch Days, but I do watch a lot of things on there, including WWE pro wrestling, so it’s more than worth it for me. For people that only use it to watch Days, I can definitely see how the increase could upset you.

I’m used to it by now since I also have Netflix and Hulu, and they’ve also had price increases in the past year or two, along with the increases for cable TV, which I also have.

WGA and AMPTP Reach Tentative Deal to End Writers Strike

Looks like we are close, very close, to the writing teams at your favorite soap operas returning to their jobs with news on Sunday that finally the WGA and AMPTP have reached a tentative deal. What remains is the fine print, and having the WGA vote to ratify their contracts.

This is welcome news to the television, streaming and motion picture industry that after five months of a strike has put the 2023-2024 TV season in deep water.

In a statement, the Writers Guild shared, “We have reached a tentative agreement on a new 2023 MBA (Minimum Basic Agreement), which is to say an agreement in principle on all deal points, subject to drafting final contract language. We can say, with great pride, that this deal is exceptional — with meaningful gains and protections for writers in every sector of the membership.”

As the deal goes through its final stages, the writers are still technically on strike, but picketing outside studios and shows has now been suspended.

Among the writers’ demands that they fought for are: higher residuals from streaming shows, minimum staff sizes to prevent the use of “mini rooms” and protections from the use of AI.  The hope within the entertainment industry is that the new deal for the WGA will move along a new contract for SAG-AFTRA (actors) with the AMPTP.  As of Monday, SAG-AFTRA is still on strike.

As for your favorite soap operas, during the strikes, the shows were written by non-union writers or “fi-core” writers who gave up their union benefits in order to continue working.

The next steps in process will see the WGA negotiating committee vote on “whether to recommend the agreement and send it on to the WGAW Board and WGAE Council for approval,” tentatively scheduled for Tuesday.  Another vote by the board and council could lift the strike “restraining order”and allow scribes to “return to work during the ratification vote”.

So, are you happy to know that the writing teams from your favorite soaps are about to return to work and helm the scripts and the vision of the shows? Comment below.

DAYS OF OUR LIVES: Alex is Revealed to Be Victor’s Son; How Do You Feel About the Revelation?

By now, Days of our Lives fans have figured out that Alex Kiriakis (Rob Scott Wilson) will be revealed as Victor’s (the late John Aniston) son, not Justin’s (Wally Kurth), on upcoming episodes of the Peacock streaming soap opera.

On Friday’s cliffhanger, after Justin and Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) open the contents from Victor’s briefcase located in Greece, they are stunned to see a brand new will. But, what will stun them even more is that Justin will learn that Alex is not his biological son. In addition, the latest promo for next week’s DAYS, also shows an emotional Justin telling Alex he is not his father.

In the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest, Rob Scott Wilson shares on the Kiriakis family bombshell: “It’s such a huge plot twist. Obviously, it’s going to change the dynamic within the family and the power within the business.”

Photo: JPI

Wilson added on the key scene where Justin and Maggie just found out Victor had a ‘secret’ son: “Justin is definitely freaking out. It’s like he’s just seen a ghost. He wasn’t prepared to read this and then have Alex walk in on it.”

After the revelation, Rob expressed how the relationship between Alex and Justin will never be the same: “It’s like a goodbye to the relationship that we built and established in not too long of a time. It was really heartfelt.”

Photo: JPI

There will be much more to this story, as Alex tries to process how Victor lied to him while he was alive, and never told him he was his son.

Check out the promo for next week’s DAYS below.

Now let us know, are you happy or unhappy that Alex is turning out to be the biological son of Victor Kiriakis? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

Adam Caine Reprises His Role of Edmund Crumb on Days of our Lives

Here’s a welcome blast from the past! Coming up on Days of our Lives, look for the return of Adam Caine who reprises his role as Susan Banks’ beloved former boyfriend and husband, Edmund Crumb.

It has been 25 years since Adam played the role of Edmund, as he was only on the long-running soap opera for four memorable months.

Now, according to the latest Soap Opera Digest, Caine returns at the beginning of October in scenes with Tamara Braun (Ava) and Steve Burton (Harris).  With Ava trying to remember what happened the night Susan (Stacy Haiduk) ‘died’ and her part in it, plus the two being in the run, it shall be interesting just how they try to locate or bump into Mr. Crumb!

Previously, DAYS viewers first saw Caine play the whimsical Edmund Crumb alongside Eileen Davidson’s original version of Susan. Together, they created some of the more hilarious romance segments ever on a soap opera. Eventually, Edmund and Susan married in April of 1998.  The couple moved back to Edmund’s home country of England to live and that is the last we have seen of him, that is until now!
