PLANET 360 Preview: Chappell, Gering & Serricchio Discuss Lucci's One Episode Return to AMC!

Courtesy/HallmarkMovieChannel
In this video preview of the next installment of the “Soap Dish” segment that airs tomorrow Friday at noon on the Hallmark MOVIE Channel’s entertainment series, Planet 360, Crystal Chappell (Venice, The INN, The Grove), Galen Gering (Days of our Lives) and Ignacio Serricchio (The Young and the Restless) discuss with each other the fact that when All My Children returns with new episodes and online at the end of April, they will be fast forwarding five years ahead in story.
In addition, the main topic of conversation between the soap stars was is if Susan Lucci’s (Erica Kane) slated one appearance on All My Children will help the show or not, and should Lucci have agreed from the start to appear in more episodes?
Galen Gering stated on Lucci’s one episode return: “I don’t think its going to help it. Obviously, everyone is going to see if for what it is – she is doing one show. You almost should just say, ‘No’. For a show and an industry that has been so great to her for decades to do one show … and obviously there is a lot of stuff that can happen behind the scenes, but if you are going to do one, you might as well do ten! To do one show feels like kind of weird and a bit of a slap in the face to me, I don’t know. “
Crystal Chappell felt differently relating: “I think it’s nice of Susan to do it, because she doesn’t have to. She’s got other things and she had moved on. I don’t think it’s going to hurt it, but it would be nice to have her there. But, they have enough familiar faces on the canvas, that people like and that are fan favorites that I think will be able to carry it. Cook em with Susan Lucci in that first episode, and if there is something titillating in that first episode, than you might be able to keep the fans coming back.”
Now watch the Planet 360 “Soap Dish” segment below, and let us know your thoughts on Susan Lucci appearing thus far in only one episode of All My Children?
CAN AMC TAKE BACK ANNIE BECAUSE I HATE MCE ON Y&R AS CHELSEA. NEVER LIKED HER
How can AMC take Annie back, when MCE doesn’t want to return? She wanted off the show before it was even canceled. Even if, Y&R dumped her, that doesn’t mean shes going back to AMC.
I can’t stand Chelsea either. I hope they get rid of this character. Put Chloe with Alex the cop and find someone new for kevin like Jana. Bring back Drucilla ! Sharon and Adam need to marry and have a son and get hild of full custody of that rosemarys baby Chelsea is carrying 🙂
Galen needs to stop speculating. No one knows how Lucci’s Devious Maids contract. Maybe her contract stipulates that she can’t accept other acting jobs.
I agree he does. What business is it of his anyway?
I just read that she and Jack Wagner are doing an episode of CELEBRITY APPRENTICE for a fake commercial for Crystal Light.
I think the woman is just busy as are a lot of them that were forced to move on when ABC pulled the rug out from under them.
Thank you! Susan wants to return with all her heart. The proof is in the pudding. No other actor was as continuously involved as she was. Devious Maids shoots in Atlanta. She can’t be in two shows at once if the producers don’t accommodate. Jacob Young asked about the possibility of doing B&B and AMC at the same time, and B&B wouldn’t share him. The important thing is that AMC and OLTL launch successfully. The missing actors will come back as soon as they can.
I agree with all of you! Great post Lorenzo
Galen Gering and Ignacio Serricchio are both idiots! Like they are such wonderful actors and have starred in a show…any show…EVER?
Crystal at least showed some thoughtful insight on how Susan, doing at least one show, could bring some viewers in. I’m sure that Ms. Lucci will do more shows as her schedule permits, but she has TWO other shows she’s doing. At least she found other employment when AMC was so royally dumped.
Frankly,I’m tired of hearing about Erica Kane, just kill her off and move on……..ok,let the hate filled replies begin.
AMEN TO THAT
no hate here tim – susan has moved on & her fans should do the same………….one character does not make a soap because it takes an entire cast
I agree!
No, I won’t write you any hate mail TIM , I agree with you, Kill her off who needs her, I won’t miss her, I don’t think she can act either.
She wasn’t one of my favorites on AMC….
I think it is nice that she appear in the opening episode (or one of the first episodes), since Susan Lucci is an icon in the soap opera genre and on AMC, and has earned that status, but, in the last few years of AMC, IMO, she was so predictable, I fastforwarded through most of the scenes she was in, so I am okay with her not being there on a regular basis. I kind of feel bad saying that, but it is true. I appreciate her stopping by AMC – Part 2, and wish her well, but I like many of the returning stars, as well as the newbies, and look forward to the reboot.
I agree. Let her be the one JR shot, and she can die. Move on to bigger and better things. She’s as bad as Sami on DOOL/
the character Erica has not added much to AMC since the late 80’s ..
Erica is not needed… I would not miss Erica ..
Wait, what? The last think I read was that Susan Lucci isn’t coming back at all. Now she’s coming back for one episode?
I agree with Galen. She wants to appear that she is trying. As usual with selfish Ms. Lucci, it is a money issue.
Galen would slap DOOL in a New York minute If he had the opportunities Susan has been offered to do over the years. There have been many times Susan couldve walked away from AMC and didnt. She stayed with the show for forty years so i dont see how that is a slap in the face. AMC wouldnt have asked her back if they felt that way. And i doubt Galen will last that long on his own show. Just because she agreed to one show doesnt mean she will or wont be back for more. I wish more stars could make guest appearances. Maybe it was AMCs idea to do one episode. Whats the big deal? A lot of shows loose big name stars and most survive. And i doubt one episode from Susan is going to do any harm.
Great post and if ppl had actually seen her on the View she said she wants to return she just can’t right now because of Devious Maids…..
I think Galen will last. The writers love him, and it seems like he and Sami will reunite someday in the not-too-distant-future. If Safe weren’t reuniting soon, there’d be no reason for him to stay on the soap. He would’ve been fired immediately.
I think the show can succeed without her. Make a new Erica Kane.
You can not RECAST Erica, that would be like Recasting Marlena from Days!
I agree what Galen said about Ms. Lucci and only doing one episode.. Doesn’t she feel
any loyalty to AMC , who gave her start & which launched her career??? One episode you might as well do none. Maybe it’s a money issue! Ms. Lucci the one of the main
characters of AMC! I think she has gotten too big for her shoes!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with you Susan M, But I don’t care if Susan Lucci ever comes back to AMC she never was a favorite of mine, I didn’t tune in every day to Amc to see her, there are far more better actors then her that where the reason I watched 5 days a week for 40 some years.
I liked years ago when Trevor was on AMC. His character shouldn’t have been
killed off… I liked Tad’s(Gran)!!!! Dr. Joe Martin’s Mom. I liked Dixie , Tad, etc…
Ms. Lucci was too much of a glamor queen….
Did you see the View she SAID she can not come back yet because of Devious Maids and the fact that they tape in Atlanta and AMC is in Conn what is she supposed to do live on a plane? It has nothing to do with money or loyalty…..
i hear you – i have watch since the beginning & the last 15 years all erica did was switch around & fling her hair being a diva – i must add i never saw that much acting ability on screen either – 40 years & one emmy speaks volumes……….
Ethel,
She was nominated 19 times that is nothing to sneeze at! Her peers (Fellow actors) thought her work was worthy of notice 19 times that says something! Susan Lucci is an Icon and Deserving so, Susan Lucci has played Erica for all she is worth for the whole 40 years she has played her. If you think she did nothing in the last 15 years but Switch around which I am assuming that you mean that she got married a lot….SO That is Erica always looking for someone to love her even tho she feels that she is unlovable thanks to her father…..Flinging her hair like a Diva…..UM what do you think Erica has always been?? A diva!!
Deidre Hall has played Marlena since 1976 and never won once does that speak volumes about her?
I liked Trevor to, I hated when Abc got rid of that family, Right down to their dog to, What was the dogs name again Harold??????? Anyway I am looking forward to seeing The soaps again, And you are right MS. Lucci was to much of a glamor queen, I don’t like characters like that. So as far as I am concerned she can never, Ever, show up in Pine Valley again and It won’t break my heart.
But yet you watched the “Glamor Queen” for 40 + years right?
why does everyone feel like every actor has to commit right now to joining the shows? thats the part i don’t get, oltl and amc should concentrate on the people they got to join the show and so should the fans, and then later down the line they can bring other people in. Thats why i don’t get PP determination to have GH trio if they don’t want be on their show right now, maybe down the line when the show is airing and has a storyline that would bring them back, same for lucci. as for garens comment, its premature, i’m sure she thought something even 1 appearance was better then nothing .
The only people that are joining is actors broad term here that have not done anything else growing vegetables in upstate Ny etc. Please get off Ms. Lucci’s back she put AMC on the map move on with your newbies that you picked up at a coffee house or underwear models. Erica has come and gone leave the actress alone and your hateful comments because she did not roll over and play dead. She moved on how many times does Erica get married, Michael Knight is not jumping thru hoops either but he seems to get a pass. Galen Gering actor plzzz.
Aria I just realized this looked like I was jumping on you which was not my intent got my reply in the wrong place. Please accept my apology.
Susan Lucci has already stated that she wants to come back…..so I think it’s just a matter of working out a schedule and a contract that is amicable. I think it would be nice to have her there, but I’m going to watch regardless. I was one of those people that was raising hell when ABC cancelled All My Children, so now that it’s coming back, I’m going to give it a chance and watch before I ridicule every decision, before the first episode even airs. We have to remember, ABC pulled the plug on AMC a year ago, so a lot of actors have moved on. You can’t expect it to be the same exact cast as when they went off the air….and quite frankly, I don’t know that I want the same exact cast. There were a few people on there, that I could have done without, a long time ago. I just hope they are able to get Michael E Knight to make a return, as well as Rebecca Budig. I like both actors and hope to see them in Pine Valley.
Omg, rafe needs to be quiet. How dare he say Susan is slapping AMC in the face. Her schedule is only allowing her to do one episode. It’s better than nothing. Erica fans will be happy. Can’t believe he said that. How disrespectful. He’s just jealous because his days character is so boring.
BRAVO!
Hey! I love Rafe! I like Erica, but her character on the show doesn’t really have a purpose anymore.
IMO Susan Lucci is the worst actress on soaps, so it doesn’t hurt my feelings that she won’t be on long.
Your right about that Jeff, AMC doesn’t need her, And I don’t think she can act either, There are far more people I liked on AMC she was never my favorite, She could drop off the soap bubble truck forever and I will not miss her at all.
There is no way she is the worst actress on soaps. There are some way worse than her. I can name several if you’d like.
Boy it must be nice to suck at your job and keep it for 40 + years and win a Emmy…..
absolutely! forty years & only one emmy……… enough said
Since when has acting abilities have anything to do with being a soap star lol
How Many EMMY’S do you have Ethel? Yea that’s what I thought!
I’ve been watching since 1976. Susan Lucci MADE AMC. The disrespect in this comment section is sickening. I’m looking forward to the show’s return and am making no judgments. It’s a Miracle that its back. Long live La Lucci ! Her return for 1 or more episodes will be welcome. ##appreciatethediva!
Well said will! Thank you. I don’t know what right Rafe from Days has to criticize such an icon, but he is ridiculous for doing so. And calling.SL a terrible actress? Obviously these folks don’t know talent when they see it.
Great post Derek!
I agree Will! These ppl should be ashamed!!!
I love Susan Lucci and AMC although I always wanted to see Erica Kane when I watched the show. I have watched Deadly Affairs on ID and not thrilled with it at all. I am sure as an actor one wants to be in primetime and take on new roles but for me I need me some Erica Kane on some kind of basis and hope that happens. She also knows she has to say she wants to make it work and so forth as she is very conscious of the wrath of soap fans.
Lucci is an ass….sorry to her fans but she is.
Chappell is really talk crap.
Those Malibu Pilates Chairs are selling like hotcakes on HSN today–If I had the money I would order one. Susan looks great and I so miss her as Erica Kane.
I wonder why these two Days stars are commenting on another soap…??? Weird IMO
Like Erica Kane or not and like Susan Lucci or not (I do think people confuse one is a character) Lucci has show great loyaltty to the soap genre and ABC/AMC. You can’t say that about Deidre Hall, Tony Geary, et al esepcailly when she has been given oportunituies to do work outside of daytime. AS for her acting, is she Meryl Streep I don’t thnk so but the character Erica Kane is so strong and so prominent it is hard to see her anything but Erica Kane. But the fact that she has had such a long career, done so many movie of the weeks (remember Vanna White at her height did a movie and she never acted again well Lucci continues to work). Besides her latest character Genvieve Delatour on Devious Maids is NOT Erica Kane and the buzz is she is hilarious and worthy of an Emmy. But you cannot diss Susan Lucci when it comes loyalty to a soap or the genre- she is one of the few or only who stayed loyal – Deidre Hall dropped DOOL faster than you can believe when she had a shot at night time fame and so many stars have left daytime hoping to find night time success. Prospect Park didn’t play fair game, weren’t professional and look what happened to both OLTL and AMC. Lucci was smart but we do know she tried to go back but the woman is freaking 67 years old and she is doing two shows Devious Maids and Deadly Affairs what was she suppose to do? Lucci is smart family first – and she made enough to support her family comfortably. She could have had more career wise but she is doing just fine – now how many other actors can say that – essentially yes, Lucci blew her chance at greater fame and fortune – for her family.

Billy Miller Memorial Scholarship Endowment Created at His Alma Mater to Help Others ‘Realize Their Dreams’

Two months since three-time Daytime Emmy-winning actor, Billy Miller passed away, the beloved All My Children (ex-Richie), General Hospital (ex-Jason/Drew) and The Young and the Restless (ex-Billy) star, will now have a permanent scholarship endowment in his honor at the University of Texas at Austin which was Miller’s alma mater.
Through the scholarship, it will be able to help radio/television and film undergraduate students with financial need. Billy’s family and friends have established this permanent scholarship in his memory, naming it the William Jon Miller II “Billy Miller” Memorial Scholarship. They hope the endowment will be a legacy to his life and love of acting.
Before becoming soap-famous, Billy graduated from the the university’s department of Radio-Television-Film (RTF) at the Moody College of Communication. On its official website, they shared the news of this special memorial scholarship and how Miller died at the age of 43 after surrendering his life to bipolar depression, which he struggled with his whole life.

Photo: JPI
Megan Hubbell, Billy’s sister, expressed, “We want something positive to be held in his name in perpetuity through the University he loved. He would be honored to know that even in death, he can help someone else realize their dreams.”
She added how she hoped her immensely talented brother will be remembered: “I hope BJ (as Billy was known by to his friends and family) is remembered for the kind-hearted, silly, funny, goofy, generous, beautiful soul that he was His megawatt smile, deep belly laugh and gorgeous mug were gifts on screen, but his true self was a bright light that will be carried with us forever.”

Photo: JPI
According to Miller’s family, Billy had his picks of schools and UT was his first choice. When he first came to the university, Billy started in the zoology program before switching to radio-television-film, where he felt he belonged. Miller was one of just 20 students at the time accepted into the department’s prestigious production-sequence program.
“BJ was extremely proud to be a Texas Longhorn and always remembered his time there fondly,” Hubbell said. “The time he spent at UT allowed him the space to explore who he wanted to be and what he wanted to accomplish.”

Photo: JPI
In honoring her brother’s work and strength to persevere in the often heartbreaking world of entertainment, Megan related: “I always admired the guts it took to go after a dream in Hollywood that so many people tried to discourage. He heard, ‘You’ll never make it’ more times than I care to count, but he used those comments as fuel and said, ‘Watch me.’”
Miller’s roles went far beyond those on daytime soap operas, as throughout his career he played major parts in primetime’s Suits, Ray Donovan and Castle to name but a few.

Photo: JPI
In his death, Billy’s family is encouraging people to take stock of their own mental health. “BJ would want anyone struggling with intrusive thoughts to seek professional help,” Hubbell said. “Do not suffer in silence or try to muscle through on your own. Mental health is vitally important and shouldn’t be spoken about in silos behind closed doors but rather in open forums with open arms. Shame has no place in the discussion to seek help.”
