Days Of Our Lives
RATINGS: All Soaps Rebound And Gain Viewers!
The ratings are out for the week of December 10th through the 14th and all of your favorite daytime dramas rebounded from a dismal previous week! In fact, all four soaps gained in total viewers!
The CBS Daytime soaps, The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless gained the most viewers for the week with B&B adding another + 196,000 and Y&R adding +193,000. Over at General Hospital the lone ABC soap brought in +119,000 new viewers, while NBC’s Days of our Lives netted +90,000!
In the key demos it was General Hospital in the number one spot for women 18-34 in total viewers and ratings share. The Young and the Restless however topped the other key 18-49 female demo in total viewers and ratings share. To view the entire ratings picture for the week via Soap Opera Network click here.
In a year where daytime took a big hit from the mainstream, which many said was soon the death of the daytime soaps, the remaining four have not faded into oblivion! That said, it’s time for you, our soapers, to be this week’s Soap Opera Programming Executive Armchair Quarterback!
As the year comes to a close, what did your favorite soaps do throughout the year to keep you tuned-in? What did they do to keep you tuned-out? And what New Year’s resolution would you like to see each of the soaps make to their loyal audience? Let us know!
Despite the recent bump- Y&R is still loosing viewers. Articles I have read indicate and I agree that they will continue to as long as Jill P & Josh G are at the helm. It’s time for Sony to wake up. Save our show. Listen to the fans not Jill & Josh before it is too late. Is there anyone out there who are brave enough and popular enough who can help the fans save the show we love so much?
I like to know the articles so I can read it myself? I haven’t read anything like what you stated. I think Y&R is so much better in the last 2 months and 2 months isn’t going to undo what MAB &LML’s damage created. Most fans I have read seem to like the new direction except for the ones that have nothing better to do then complain which is usual. So I curious and like to see the remarks. The ratings are at or slightly better then MAB left and so it’s not losing ratings.
Thank you harlee- I was beginning to think something must be wrong with me since so many posters are saying how awful Y&R is and how the new regime is destroying it- but I think it is getting better too. No, it is not the show it was in its prime but, I think in this day and age, even Bill Bell Sr. if he were alive, might have a hard time writing for this show. Soaps are bit like finding love, in love you have to kiss a lot of frogs before finding the prince- and in soaps you have to watch a lot dull stuff to get to gems.
No proble. http://Www.highlighhollywood.com/2012/12/20 Jill-Darren-phelps. Give it a read. May help to clarify my comment.
there is nothing there because the site is saying can’t be found or doesn’t exist. Could you have type in the wrong site?
Hi Harlem – I wrote the link down verbatim maybe they took it down? Politics and bad press. I will see if I can find it another way.
Harlem try http://www.highlighthollywood.com. I just tried i should come up . Do a search it will come up.
Enjoying Y&R’s writing!! Let’s hope it increases more!!! Happy B&B is up too and DAYS!!!
I can barely watch Y&R anymore. Sharon’s bi-polar disease done before on GH. I cannot stand JFP. She will kill this show and the best of all of them will be on top and that is GH.
GH isn’t going to overtake Y&R, nice try but unrealistic. Fans must believe the only people who watch soaps are the ones going to the soaps sites and that isn’t even coming close to the actual people that are watching soaps.
The daytime soaps this year had their ups and downs, which means like life itself, nothing was perfect. On Days- highlights of the year for me were, grief sex between Sami and EJ, Will’s coming out storyline, Lexie’s passing done beautifully, and the return of Kristen Dimeara.
On B&B- highlight – the passing of Stephanie- done very respectfully
On Y&R- not so much story lines, but performances stand out in my mind- Paul shooting his own son and the his torment about it afterwards. Sharon’s breakdown. Any scene with Christian LeBlanc.
GH- only started watching in November, but for me highlight so far was the Thanksgiving episode, and when Anna decked that Faison guy when he was captured.
Low points- don’t like to dwell on the negative because negativity breeds negativity, but for me the dumbest thing I saw all year was Chole’s and Kevin’s spur of the moment wedding on Y&R. The whole thing was absurd from the location, the dialogue to Katherine Chancellor marrying them – it was not only the lamest wedding I’ve seen, but the worst thing I seen on a soap in years. And I have seen a lot crap on a lot of shows so for me to hate it, means it was really bad.
I like the new Y&R. Days is too boring.
I agree.. Days is waaayyyyy boring!
Not sure how Days ratings have gone up. The show is beyond boring.
LOL…. Maybe we should take a look at The Young and Restless…
Finally catching up with Revenge.. that is a good show! Dallas will be back in a month or so… I have to give it up.. Maybe I try on Jan 1, 2013.. Good New Years Resolution for me.. along with cookies..
Give up Days is what I am talking about 🙂
Love Dallas!! That was a great 1st season. Days, ho-hum… I keep hoping but every episode I watch is a repeat of the last. I still wonder if Marlena knows that Jack died? Their consistency stinks. I’d give up Days before cookies 🙂 Happy Holidays!
Even though each soap gained somewhat for this most recent week, none of these ratings are all that great honestly.
Yes, Y&R is still the top-rated soap, but I think that’s largely by default. IMO, it’s been as exciting as watching paint dry lately and the ratings are reflecting that. It’s down at least 1 million viewers from last year and continually slipping. DOOL has been mostly unwatchable since shortly after the Olympics and as of now appears to be teetering on the edge of cancellation.
GH is so much better in everyday quality and excitement from where it was last year at this time, so give RC and FV credit for breathing new creative life into the show. But having said that, while the numbers are up, I’m not sure that these ratings are so far and away higher than where they were a year ago. But I’m cautiously optimistic. At the very least, I’d like to think that they’ve bought GH a little more time.
Just so people know, I believe that GH is airing a repeat on Monday (Christmas Eve) and won’t be seen on Tuesday (Christmas) due to ABC/ESPN’s NBA games. Thus, the next new episode is Wednesday, Dec. 26
GO GENERAL HOSPITAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! They need to get Luke back in Port Charles.. Where is he anyway? Miss seeing him on GH!
I want all of them to succeed regardless which one I watch. We could only get the real count for We know Neilsen is outdated and millions more.Glad to see all of them are on the upside in veiwers.I donot want anymore cancelled.
Congrats to all the soaps! LOVE IT!
BB’s New Years resolution needs to be to get rid of Liam and Hope, get a new writing team and give Thorne storyline. Gh just needs to keep up the great work!
Glad Days is gaining and I hope it stays on air, but these new writers are making the show very boring. I now just read the recaps online rath than watching the actual show. I say fire the writers. I mean, the baby storyline is SO cliche! Krady has gotten old really fast, Sami’s love triangle is overdone and overshown, and Dannifer, who many people loathe, is also overshown. Nicole’s story is boring. I would rather she get with Rafe or reunite with EJ instead of heading to Eric, because they just seem so dull and washed down right now. I thought I would enjoy Nick, as well as Nabi, but Nick is a jackass and the couple, while I like them, are boring and rushed.
I do not like the CBS soaps, but I am not shocked Y&R isn’t doing so well now. B&B is doing alright, but I find it boring. GH is only decent IMO. All soaps need to do better.
GH is on fire. It is a soapy joyride. This show is proof that soaps can endure when true fans of the genre, who respect the history of the genre, executive produce and write shows of this genre. Long live ONE LIFE TO LIVE.
Y&R is showing signs of life, but geez, how do you repair 7 years of damage brought on by LML & MAB. Josh Griffith writes good soap, but I’m not sure about JFP’s track record. Let’s just say I am hoping for the best but expecting further erosion of Y&R’s fan base. They’ve messed with some of the greatest characters and stories in daytime history. I’m not sure the damage can be undone.
DAYS is just unwatchable. I cannot stand the Daniel/Jennifer back and forth. Also, I don’t quite understand the EJ phenomenon. Perhaps if I were taller, spoke with a British accent, and blinked my eyes incessantly, I could become a soap actor phenomenon myself. Just saying. Hehe
I have never gotten into B&B. I do love Susan Flannery and Katherine Kelley Lang (sp?), however.
Long live our soaps!
The ratings news is wonderful and I am so happy that the Quartermaines are seeing more airtime. HOWEVER, what the heck did Leslie Charleson do to her face … again?!
I just wanna know who is the person who give these ratings figures, cuz B&b is awful, it has barely three people duing the same recycled crap they did over the years and the characters do not have realistic. all they do is beckering like a buch of stupid ppl rotating around the awful slut form the valley Broke Logan and family!! I haven’t watched this crap since July 2012, and i won’t unless Bell is out!! I hate his biased writing and arrogance!!!When people write such insane statements and praising incompetent people like Bell which should follow Maria Arena Bell through the door, i can understand why B&b never change! They must all be KKL/Logan fans cause it is just absurd praising such horrible lazy and predictable writing… GH is the best imo and if Phelp keep firing people i don’t know if Y&R would make it…Plus i really liked Maria Arena Bell.. This woman is bringing all her ppl from the Hollywood Heights!! SMDH! Maybe it is too son but i all the people she fired on Y&R were good and entertaining..
B&B should be canceled!
No happening of cancelling B&B or Y&R because like it or not they are the strongest soaps on the air and proof is in the ratings and CBS is very happy now. MAB sucks! She won’t work in daytime again and that is blessing for all soaps.
Love Eric Brady (GV) on Days! Look forward to more involved storylines with him!

ET followed suit after Extra announced the nominees, as previously reported, in the Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series – Actor and Outstanding Daytime Talk Host.
Now, five leading ladies of the soaps are vying for the gold for Lead Actress and the category marked the first-ever nominations for CBS daytime’s Beyond the Gates when two actresses made the final cut. Only General Hospital is not represented among the actresses this year after Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) took home the trophy last year.
