Days Of Our Lives

RATINGS: All Soaps Up In Total Viewers: Y&R & B&B Bounce Back, DAYS Most-Watched Week In Over 7 Months!

The ratings are out for the week of September 28th through October 2nd, and all four network daytime dramas increased in total viewers.

Leading the pack, and bouncing back from a loss the following week was CBS’ The Young and the Restless.  The number one soap added +213,000 total viewers, followed by The Bold and the Beautiful which rebounded adding +178,000.

Both daytime dramas showed a 5% increase from the previous ratings.  Y&R and B&B also showed gains in the 18-49 womens demo, while Y&R is still tying a low for the rating shares in that category.  NBC’s Days of our Lives reports it had its most-watched week in over 7 months bringing in a total viewer average count of 2,496,000, with a weekly increase of +86,000.  The show also gained viewers in the 18-49 and 18-24 demos.

Courtesy/NBC

General Hospital also was in the positive, adding 7,000 total viewers for the ratings week bringing it to 2,600,000.  However, GH found itself in the minus column in the 18-49, 18-34, and 25-54 womens demo categories.

To view the entire ratings picture courtesy of SON click here.

Numbers are based on Live+Same Day ratings

(Compared to Last Week/Compared to Last Year)

Total Viewers
1. Y&R 4,612,000 (+213,000/+28,000)
2. B&B 3,630,000 (+178,000/-92,000)
3. GH 2,600,000 (+7,000/-229,000)
4. DAYS 2,496,000 (+86,000/+3,000)

So, taking a look a the performance of your favorite soap, how do you predict the ratings may change in the coming weeks?  Do you think Y&R will increase because of the Adam reveal?  Will B&B because of the Ridge/Caroline/Thomas reveal?  Will GH continue to increase total viewer count under new or revised long story from new head writers: Jean Passanante and Shelly Altman?  And, will DAYS finally have its major resurgence as it goes through the next few months of story through their 50th anniversary in November?  Share your predictions in the comment section below!

Y&R bounced back But their demos are terrible, 4 straight weeks in the 18-49 category among the others. The Adam reveal didn’t help them much those numbers are still bad compared to where they were 8 months ago.

It is turning out just I said. The absence of the gay storyline means an increase in the ratings for Days. I believe the ratings will continue to increase. Those persons who are continuously offended by my statements about the correlation between the gay storyline and the ratings at Days can check it out for themselves! But the proof is in the pudding! Persons who were in favor of the gay storyline were not strong enough in number to maintain a good rating. I’m am quite sure this played a part in the decision to kill off Will Horton. If… Read more »

I would guess the ratings bump is more from curiosity of checking out the return of the many veterans than the lack of any particular storyline. The “proof in the pudding,” as you put it will be reflected in the numbers six months from now, when the hubbub over the returns has died down and the shock value of the serial-killer storyline is over. Only then will there be a clear picture if people are sticking around for the new focus of the show.

The reality is that Days does not have that much time to get its act together ratings-wise. Supposedly, in December or January, NBC is supposed to make its decision on whether or not to renew Days past September 2016, the conclusion of Sony’s current contract with the network for the show. Keep your fingers crossed.

Um, Kim Richards, Days went up in ratings because the stories were riveting and old vets came back. It’s why a non-Days watcher like me tuned in and I was not disappointed.
Stop trying to manipulate the numbers to accommodate your homophobic agenda.

Harry, this poster knew if he mentioned the “G” word he would get attention. Thats why I’m responding to you and not him or her! FANS, not haters, want good stories. We dont care about their sexuality or skin color. Give us a good story and sprinkle in a few vets here and there and we are happy! Can I get an amen?

Hey, Harry. I have already spoken my peace to this poster. There is something wrong when low ratings are blamed on gay storylines. However, he/she persists. There is something to be said for those posters who make themselves gender-anonymous. There is no point trying to MAKE a point with a closed mind. But, he/she is entitled to his/her opinion…..as bigoted as it may be. I, for one enjoyed Sonny and Will….. (Well, actually I preferred Massey; but, lately I just felt sorry for the character, knowing his end.) The marriage only reinforced the fact that even gay couples have the… Read more »

CeeCee I know gays are a part of this world. “There is nothing new under the sun.” But that doesn’t mean I want to watch gay activity on my favorite TV show. People have the right to exercise their choice of what to watch on television. Fortunately/unfortunately (depending on your perspective) the exercising of that right will eventually affect WHAT is on television. That is what has happened here. A whole lot of people exercised their right not to watch Days of our lives, and there is evidence that says their decision not to watch was largely based on the… Read more »

Harry, I agree with you, as always! “Stories are riveting and vets are back.” Exactly! The scenes are very well executed to maximize the suspense (in the serial killer storyline). And Bo’s return has been extremely well set up also. I’m loving viewing the vets. And I had not followed Galen Gering as Rafe–but he is totally believable in his part–underplayed just right with an air of authority–and not bad to look at either–lol. The music, the settings, the atmosphere, the tone–all working. And give me some more Patch and Kayla! I love those two–and, guess what?–I truly believe that… Read more »

I don’t manipulate the numbers. I watched the numbers to see if what I thought was true. No one has to believe me about the truth that the ratings numbers tell. I am not at all offended by those who do not believe me. However I do challenge those persons to check it out for themselves. There is a correlation between the decline in the ratings and the weeks when the gay storyline was prevalent. Ken Corday knows it too as reflected in what he alluded to in the Soap Opera Digest article where he discussed the change in head… Read more »

I suppose that the ratings boost could possibly be the powerful event that just happened in the ongoing, still-happening “gay” storyline coupled with the 50th anniversary and return of the vets as opposed to a return of all the soap-watching homophobes in America… but haters gonna hate, Gmbenet.

I just feel like DAYS put too much emphasis on the gay storylines and not enough emphasis on the other romances. Until the new writers came along, there have been NO couples I could get excited about. We saw Eric & Nicole, for instance, maybe once every two weeks. But the gays were on every day. Now they are putting more emphasis on “straight” romance and I’m watching again. I do feel, however, that it was a mistake to kill Will. Just as it was a mistake to kill EJ. Audiences want romance. If EJ and Sami were both leaving… Read more »

Patch and Bo are coming back, John and Marlana are back on track, SAMI is coming back, and ” DAYS TURNS 50!” commercials are in 300 times a day on NBC. If they had 3/4 of the show in a gay bar with strippers, the ratings would still be up. It is also better writing, which says nothing, as my post so far has more excitement than DAYS in the past 6 months. The issue I have is literally the day the new writers took over (the day after Sonny left), the gay story disappeared almost instantly, only to return… Read more »

..cause a ignorant person said so!
lol, how about maybe the last writers at the time were so burnt out and they had no other stories to tell so they milked the crap out of the ‘gay’ storys!!! if what you re saying is true then really it was the gay storys that kept the show going!
… you should be thanking the gay story not being bitter about it!

Gmbenet

Who exactly is the ignorant person and what are they ignorant about?

During the time the ratings tanked the storyline at the forefront was the gay storyline. So the writers were so burned out that all they could come up with was a gay storyline? Either way you look at it, the storyline failed. The gay storyline did not keep the show on the air. That storyline put the show in jeapordy.

Maybe it would help if you would do a little checking on your own so you can get the facts straight.

The music box was up there all right, but I think what killed that story line was changing writers twice in the middle of it– it was one of those stories a head writer inherited, didn’t know what the original writer intended, so they change it mid stream, then another writer comes in the middle of that, and changes it again– so it made no sense and everyone was confused–. The young man who plays Chad is great as well as the young actress playing the woman he loves and is now with Ben, the killer. They’ve even done interesting things with Ben–for instance, the nightmares he had after killing Ben were extremely well done and effective. Your comment regarding Will’s graphic death doesn’t have a reply option, so I’m replying here: I think it was important to show Will’s death in detail in real time due to being a core character and being extra special to many viewers. I started watching B&B a few years ago. Probably about 2 or so years after All My Children ended. I seen Jacob Young was on the show and now I’m happy they have Thorsten Kaye. 🙂 I started watching Y&R because October 16th, Michael Knight (Tad from AMC) will be on the show. I started watching Days of Our Lives because at some point Vincent Irizarry (Dr. David Hayward from All My Children) will be on the show. So, only reason I watch other soaps is because of my previous family members.

Days of our Lives Returns To Production After Temporary Halt Amid COVID-19

UPDATED:  According to Deadline  the cast and crew of NBC’s Days of our Lives will actually be returning tomorrow, October 20th to begin taping ahead of schedule after a positive Covid-19 test shut production down originally scheduled for two weeks.

The outlet cited, “Following a thorough investigation including contact tracing, quarantines, testing, and a deep cleaning of the studio, the health and safety experts at Days of our Lives have determined that it was safe to return to production before the end of the two-week period. As a result, the show will be back on set tomorrow Oct 20.”

The word of the early return initially got out Monday, although at that time unconfirmed by the show, apparently, via a posting by Lauren Koslow on her Instagram account where she is pictured in a Kate Roberts outfit in her dressing room.

Koslow shared: “Stepping into Monday in alice + olivia black velvet,” She also tagged the post #dressingroomselfie and the words. “Stay strong.”

She also added a quote from poet Maya Angelou: “Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope.”

So, happy to hear it seems like DAYS is back … once again? Comment below!

Kristian Alfonso Bids Farewell to DAYS as Final Episode Airs Today Sharing; “Thank YOU From The Bottom Of My Heart For Welcoming Me Into Your Homes All Of These Years”

Wednesday, October 14th, 2020 marks the final appearance of Kristian Alfonso’s iconic run as Hope Williams on NBC’s Days of our Lives, a role she played on and off for more than 37 years.  Make no mistake about it, Alfonso was a staple of Salem and the DAYS family since she made her debut back in 1983.

However, over the summer viewers learned she would not be returning to the show when the series began production again in September, after she was told they were planning on resting the character of Hope for five months or so.  A decision that prompted Kristian to make a decision to leave the show for good and start a new chapter in her life.

To celebrate her run and to say a thank you to everyone at the show and her enduring fans, Kristian posted a video on her Instagram account of some backstage moments through the years to the tune of “I’ve Had The Time Of My Life”.  She accompanied her post with these words of thanks to everyone that has been by her side every step of the way:  “Being today is my last airshow, I wanted to share some of my favorite memories onset & behind the scenes I hope you enjoy it.  Thank YOU from the bottom of my heart for welcoming me into your homes all of these years.  And making me a part of your lives #xoxo ❤️  Thank you Ken & @nbcuniversal @nbc for a #beautiful #ride . #❤️ #😘”

James Scott Comments: “I Will Never. Never. Never. Never. Never, Go Back to Hollywood Let Alone DOOL”

Those hoping that finally James Scott would return to his signature daytime soap role of EJ DiMera on Days of our Lives, now that Alison Sweeney is on her way back to the show this fall for a longer run as Sami, can count those hopes now dashed and for good.

In a post on his Instagram account for his meditation and contemplations Sunday morning Zoom series and website, Scott posed with Deepak Chopra.  When a fans posted a comment in the IG account how they miss him on DAYS and to come back with Sami, James replied, “Hi – thanks for joining me here. Please know that I will never. Never. Never. Never. Never. Go back to Hollywood let alone DOOL. There is notbing interesting there for me. J”

Fan favorite James Scott, who has been MIA from the acting profession for awhile now is running The Whisper Within – and as detailed by the website, Scott explains how he left acting to be more involved with meditation and helping others find inner-peace – “In 2014, after a successful career in the entertainment industry, I found myself with everything and nothing.  I had money, celebrity, and status and the grief to match it. I had worked tirelessly for the better part of two decades to attain wealth and validation, yet no external thing could touch the emptiness I felt and the worthlessness I experienced.  I knew that something unknown wished to be known—something I could feel only through its apparent absence. In my despair and depression, I faced a simple choice: to change my lived experience or to end it. One felt impossible; the other easy I had already spent so much time reading self-help books, attending workshops and retreats, drinking concoctions with shamans, exploring tantra and abstaining from sex all together, dancing and singing, and many more practices, which had done little or nothing to abate the loneliness.

Desperate and in despair, still seeking, still suffering, I found my way to an Indian meditation center. I went for a week and stayed for a year. It was there in my own reflection that I found the teacher I had been seeking silently waiting to be known. At first, there was rage and anger, but eventually the intensity of the fire burned low and sadness took its place. I cried and cried until I cried myself empty and something new arose: beneath it all, I discovered a newfound peace. Like a fragrance arising from deep within, I heard the sound of the silence that can never be spoken: the eternal wisdom of the whisper within.  To live from this place is my practice and my path. To inspire others to do the same is my purpose.”

So, what do you think about James’ comments and path that he has now gone down for his life?  Do you think its time for DAYS to finally re-cast EJ? Comment below.
