Beyond the Gates
RATINGS: ‘Beyond the Gates’ Tops ‘General Hospital’ in its Premiere Week
In a very positive sign for its future, Beyond the Gates, daytime’s first new network soap opera since 1999, scored with viewers and the Nielsen ratings data for its premiere week of February 24-28th.
Beyond the Gates which goes head to head with General Hospital in their time slot, bested the long-running ABC daytime drama in key demos, according to a report from Soap Opera Network.
Overall, for the key demo of Women 18-49, Beyond the Gates ranked sixth for the week among all daytime broadcast shows with a 0.25 rating. In addition, for Women 25-54 Beyond the Gates also ranked sixth for the week, averaging a 0.39 rating. Both those ratings points were up from the series it replaced, The Talk.

In fact, Beyond the Gates performance in the 2:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. PT time slot was a CBS television network best over the last few years for Women 18-49 (since the week of March 7-11, 2022) and for the 25-54 demo (since the week of September 27-October 1 2021.)
Overall, Beyond the Gates helped lift the network’s sister shows of The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless. The lead-in to BTG is B&B and they were up in all demos for the week. While Y&R was down in only one demo that of 25-54, they were up in Women 18-49.

As for General Hospital, the launch of Beyond the Gates marks the first time since the cancellation of As the World Turns in 2010, that the ABC daytime drama has had another show within its genre competing against it in the same time slot. GH was down week-to-week in both the key demos; with an average rating of 0.19 among Women 18-49 and a rating of 0.28 among Women 25-54.
So, what do you think of the premiere week ratings performance of Beyond the Gates? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
I feel that the ages used in the ratings poll are inaccurate, because social media shows that there are people in their 50′ 60’s and 70+ who watch General Hospital
Exactly!!
I am one for life GH
I’m in my late 60s and watch both. Maybe it should be taken into consideration those of us that watch one and record the other to watch in the evening
Of course, this show should be doing better then general hospital for the week. It’s a brand new show that is just starting. It has gotten lots of attention and publicity, you can’t compare it to a show that’s been on for over fifty years. The real test will be when the newness is over, let’s see how it’s doing six months from now, and this article is false because they do not compete against each other in every market. i live near philadelphia, which is the 4th biggest market, son not a small area, and here Beyond the gates is on at 2pm and Gh is on at 3pm, so not competition
General Hospital safe here in Los Angeles too. BTG 1pm GH at 2pm
I live in San Diego and thought our time was the same. Y&R and GH at 1PM and BTG at 2 PM. Your times are really odd.
I am in SD also..but it was always 2pm when I lived in L.A. Also when I lived in various Midwest cities. So different everywhere. But if your not a Neilson family does not really matter. Also over 54 does not count. But if you stream within 48 hours it counts.
I am a dedicated general hospital fan for many years.
Most definitely
Im 45 and I have watch GH since I was 12. Watching is like having a safety blanket lol
Kim,
I agree with you. I have watched GH since I was in my thirties. I am now in my seventies. I think the viewers among all ages are in disagreement with the way the writers are portraying the characters.
Unfortunately, those aren’t the ages advertisers care the most about.
I’m sorry general hospital is better so dedicated GH.
I’m 92 and have been watching Soaps for 70 years and still enjoy them. What’s age got to do with it, unless you become demented or whatever?
Neilson does not count after 54 sadly. They figure they aren’t the buying public. Which should have changed since consumer buying habits have sadly changed. But they sure have the drug commercials for us seniors
I love the show. It has glam, secrets, drama and is messy. All the ingredients that make a great soap opera. I love most people of the characters and of course who wouldn’t side with a woman scorn. I am definitely team Dani.
Oh yes Karla is phenomenal. Those eyes of hers say it all .She gorgeous.
I love it and I’m 67
That’s what I am talking about!!!
Interesting could just be first week interest but I will say the CBS lineup all upped there game with Sharon and Phyllis being kidnapped and Finn telling Luna he’s her father ABC didn’t up there game they need to
I so agree.
General Hospital is going to have to do some major story telling soon to stay in the game.
Which is ironic, as the last GH headwriter who wrote decent stories is now a writer/exec producer at Beyond the Gates. (Bob Guza)
Guza was fired liked 15 years ago with the horrible Brian Frons. Who treated OLTL and AMC horrible. Wendy Riche was one of the best
I agree: They need to get new writer’s to compete, the writers they have now, get in their own way! They never listen to the fans, which is a big mistake! My opinion, the storylines move to slow and they are redundant!
I guess we disagree on these shows. They are not only ridiculous but boring as hell!
So, why are you commenting since your interest is minimal? Evidently , they aren’t that boring because you are still watching!
Well this Dante is a father to a 20 year old will explode soon!
Excellent script and performance
There was no age group for women 55 plus that enjoy a good soap. We like drama and steamy sex scenes too.
I agree! And many of us are home to watch it!
Enjoying the storyline so far but the introduction of so many characters at once is overwhelming.
FYI
Don’t forget to include the over 65 in your surveys!
Yes, I think an age group for over 65 should be included. I’ve been watching soaps for 50 plus years. Women that are retired do stay home and put on soaps.
Also when I worked I used the old VCRs and watched when I got home and by the time I retired we had the Recording service on our TVs, which I use now and watch when I feel kike it.
I feel like I’m watching Dynasty- outstanding show!
I stopped watching General Hospital, because it’s getting too stupid. Definitely like Beyond the Gates so far.
Still like GH for overall storytelling and the ratings will come up over time but they need to up their game! Where is the romance and intrigue?
Beyond the Gates is so far beyond realistic, its ridiculous.
Actually the writers used factual information to create Fairmount Crest based on events in the Civil Rights Movement. I know it must be jarring for some people to know that there really is a community of very wealthy black folks who have power.
I think they are meaning the part where she pulled a gun on her ex and never faced any legal trouble. Lol. Unrealistic. Nothing to do with black people being rich.
Well, it’s a mixture of realism and campy, soapy fun. I like how they’re establishing anchor families and have one setting( the Country Club) where conflicting characters can interact. Some actors are wonderful while others seem to be trying to find their sea legs. Reminds me of the soaps from the 80s. I watch it at night after work and after dinner to take a break from the news of the world. It doesn’t interfere with my viewing of GH. Hoping the competition will force GH to up their game.
Exactly correct Shawn! It has NOTHING to do with color.
If Bill can get crazy Luna out of jail after killing 2 innocent people, anything is possible
Really! Poor baby didn’t have a dad or father figure growing up, so thats a good excuse to go out and murder people. Although her mother is what she is/was, she still loved and took care of her daughter to the best of her possibilities Poppy was a bad example of a mother, but believe me, there were and are a lot.worse!
It has happened before. Do you think that we’re told every time someone pulls a gun at a wedding or any event? How do you know that it has nothing to do with Black people being rich? These writers are writing about situations that have happened to them or some they know. Believe what I say-not everything is fiction!
I Love it!! All these shows are unrealistic and ridiculous. But it’s 30 mins to an hour of fun.
I won’t agree with unrealistic and ridiculous because these shows and movies are drawn from life. Don’t you remember when movies and shows would post at the end about shows being fictitious and not related to any real person, etc.? All lies because no one wants to be sued!
It’s my #1 forever. But it’s been in 3rd place for many many years maybe 15. There were weeks when it bumped ahead of BB. But it’s been along time
And they said soap operas were dead.
Take that, haters. #LongLiveTheSoaps
Get rid of the lady with all her problems. To much drama.
I agree, it is overkill. Send her to a psychiatrist.
Which lady? There are more than one on EVERY show!
Dani, way over the top
It’s important to note that in many major markets (including NY & LA) BTG airs one hour before GH.
I was going to comment the same thing about this “head to head” stuff. Here in the NY market, the biggest media market in the country, GH airs at 3pm, like it has for the vast majority of its run. Same with Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Chicago, Houston, and a bunch of other major markets.
It’s cool that BTG did very well in their debut week, but it’s important to mention that fact for context.
In the markets you mentioned, after the show that replaced OLTL was swiftly cancelled, GH moved into OLTL’s time slot in many markets to make way for Katie Couric’s talk show. Those larger markets you listed realized that GH was a better lead in to their local news and moved it backed to its legacy time slot of 3E/2P.
It’s the opposite situation in my area (Hawaii). Our CBS affiliate (KGMB) airs BTG at 2:00 pm, while our ABC station (KITV) airs GH an hour earlier at 1:00.
Philly and Jersey have the perfect time slots to see it all and I’m loving it. Don’t count out those 50+.
I thought it sucked. It sounded and looked so fake
Flash in the pan, no stickability
I AGREE 100%! So over the top.
I agree. The acting was horrible.
I absolutely like it. I think it’s gonna be a fun show to watch.
I am really enjoying the show so far. I watched Mosely on GL and B&B, so I was skeptical of her playing a character like Dani… But I was wrong! She’s doing fantastic work.
I would like some more backstory to what happened in her marriage to Bill and why/how the affair started with Hayley. Other than that, I love it so far!
From what Dani said I n t by e beginning, Bill played around a lot and she just looked the other way.
Sorry about Typo. It was supposed to say, in the beginning, etc, etc.
Loving the show!
I have watched GH since 1974. All ages watch soap operas. It’s hard for me to watch a new Soap but Beyond the Gates is pretty good. I have seen some outstanding performances.
WOKE
U-sleeping a.k.a…..
U sleeping
If you want to see a soap opera about the filthy rich beyond the gates is for you. However I am not filthy rich and I want a soap opera that is a little more realistic. I will definitely stick with General Hospital.
What the hell has one show got to do with the other? No comparison, they are different and equally good.
Am a GH fan this soap will never top my show there is a lot of things already I don’t like about this show sorry GH for life. To many sisters for me in one place that’s trouble
“Too many sisters in one place”? How to tell someone you’re a racist without telling women you’re a racist.
Someone, not women. Darn it.
She said sisters not sistas!
Love it the writers have ruined general hospital
Love Dani -the nurse character don’t get her importance and find her to be a bore ;soap is what a soap should be !! After 50 years of watching GH ,stopped watching and love this soap so far !!!
I absolutely love the show it’s my new favorite and good job to all of the actors
STUPID RACIAL AND TOTALLY RIDICULOUS
I hate that you feel that way about yourself.
If you expect people to take you seriously, try not typing in all caps and supporting your message with complete thoughts and sentences.
You need to cut some larger eye holes in those white sheets so you can see more clearly.
Yes, you are “Joe”.
And your option is NOT TO WATCH!
Thanks to CBS I have been re-introduced to a Soap opera again. NBC could have handled GENERATIONS better with more advertising and marketing. But I love Beyond The Gates and the Duprees. I am also team Danny❤️. Keep those story lines coming I love it. It is also the only soap I watch.
The woman who plays Dani is outstanding. She’s perfect in the role. Great casting for her, her sister and parents too. I haven’t watched soap operas for years. Sometimes they could do a little editing. Some of the dialogue needs cutting down a little. Actions sometimes speak louder than words. Overall, it’s a great soap opera. Love the tightness of the family too!
BYTG is very entertaining! The fashion and story lines remind me of how Soaps used to be years ago. Y&R ratings are down for woman 25-54 because we’re tired of Sharon being kidnapped. Boring story lines.
Also Y and R does not have anyone in their 20s/early 30s, except maybe Kyle, Claire, Summer, Chase who are all getting closer to late 30’s/early 40s – where are Noah and Allie?Fenn?
Abby, Devon, Lily, etc are all 40ish – how about Charlie, Mattie, and Reed?
Sharon, Phyllis, Chelsea, etc are all 50ish – Faith needs a storyline, and do Christian, or Katie or Johnny even exist?
There are plenty of offspring who are all off canvas. Time to SORAS the rich entitled kids – hopefully for summertime
BTG at least is creating multiple generations – with family interactions and generational issues. One week of shows resulting in an introduction to an entire cast is a little difficult to follow in a one hour show, though by the end of the first month, hopefully we will have a better grasp of who is related to whom and more info on back story. It’s very different from introducing a single new character onto an already well-established soap. It being filmed in Atlanta, I do wish they would have chosen Atlanta as the hometown rather than Maryland outside of DC, though.
I.e your last sentence, why? Who cares what city it’s set in?
I am beginning to like it but is trying to learn who the people are as for as relations and the drama seems to b getting very interesting.Bold/Beatifull is getting crazy and also Young/Restless
I just love the show.Plenty of action.I will keep on watching it.
I will always be a loyal GH fan! I don’t care what new show is scheduled in the same time slot.
So keep watching GH. I watch both enjoy both
I record them all and watch after 4pm. So I view them all and love it.
Good luck to Beyond the Gates, but in the long run, i cant see it beatng GH, still GH needs to get its act together after the mess it was in 2024, they need to stop with the Serial Killers and with the creepy twin brothers chasing their nephews wifey and ex girlfriend,
Good show. It’s been a while since a new soap grabbed attention.
I ❤️ General hospital.
I will alway be a General hospital fan
I’m thrilled to be rediscovering the world of Soap Operas after a 38-year hiatus, and Beyond The Gates on CBS Network is proving to be a captivating watch. I’m Loving it all for every episode
Can’t Wait for today’s episode
I love beyond the gates. What a great soap opera has a lot of action in it. Wonderful actors. Keep up the good work.
I call bs
Beyond the Gates is off to a good start. Love Karla Mosley and the whole cast. I will continue to watch. Thank you CBS and bravo for bringing a new Daytime drama. I quit watching General Hospital 4 weeks ago. Firing Kelly Monaco was a big mistake and too many changes has hurt General Hospital. I hope Kelly Monaco comes back to Daytime or a prime time show soon.
I don’t know about the ages 18-25 or 25-49 about General Hospital , I love General Hospital , and I’m watching ( Beyond the gates ) and so far it’s ok, hopefully I get to know who is who by name . I would like to see ( All my children ) back and ( One life to live )
In my area (Midwest) The Gates is an hour before GH, allowing me to see both. Unfortunately I’ve had a problem with Peacock and can no longer see DAYS.
I record both. General hospital and Beyond the gates. And watch both in the evening. AMAZING first week Beyond the gates!! I hope this last a long time. Congratulations to all.
Watched the first episode but was not interested enough to continue. Too many characters running around so it was confusing. The silver haired matriarch is the only actor who stood out to me. The rest look like they were competing for the cover of Ebony.
Here’s my current ranking of the soaps I watch from what I’m enjoying most to least:
1. DOOL
2. BTG
3. GH
4. Y&R
(I don’t watch B&B)
This is my first time hearing about it
Not to mention straight men and gay men who watch GH these ratings are hopeless anymore. Days of our lives has proved that
Racist and homophobic? Cute.
BTG seems too fake and the acting isn’t very good. I seen to think this show will eventually and soon fail. Generations has proved that in this society. Large minority cast doesn’t catch on. Sorry cbs
Sure, Jan.
You don’t think anything has changed in that regard in (approx.) forty years? It’s possible you’re right and Generations was ahead of its time and had no real chance of success back in the 80s, but I think people in general are more ready to accept a soap about Black people now, so long as it’s well written, well acted, and well produced. A good deal has changed in those four decades (and yes, sadly, there’s a lot that has not).Today’s young people in particular seem (with exceptions, of course) generally better able to relate to a diversity of experiences than they were in my day.
I’d be more concerned about whether ANY new soap can succeed now than whether a Black-dominated soap can. Speaking only for myself, I’m so starved for good soap storytelling that I’d watch a soap about Martians if it were well done.
We have large minority casts in every Soap, this one just has closer to 100%.
Large? How would you define large?
I am with General Hospital
I like it a lot of drama. Shooting up the wedding, running people off the road. Ma,e a gay guy running for President. That girl thinking that’s her daddy, I don’t think so. But she do look like them.
GH rates in the Hulu top 10 almost every day of the week. I’m sure ABC is currently happy with how GH performs across all platforms combined, and when it no longer is GH will move to Hulu permanently a la Days/NBC/Peacock.
BTG is a welcome gust of fresh air!
How dare you leave out the Senior Citizens what do you think we are doing at 2pm err day
I am excited about BTG. It’s sparkles. It has an interesting dynamic with young adults and mature adults. Beautiful fashions and the characters are quick with dialog. I think the furniture sets could be better. Kind of tacky
furniture for such country club living.
I am sadden by the number of stars that have left GH. Hope they bring back Michael’s
Character with someone new and exciting..
Love the BTG soap . About time a new one came.

Monday on Entertainment Tonight, the second set of nominations for the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards were announced which included the highly-coveted Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series – Actress and Outstanding Daytime Talk Series.
ET followed suit after Extra announced the nominees, as previously reported, in the Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series – Actor and Outstanding Daytime Talk Host.
Now, five leading ladies of the soaps are vying for the gold for Lead Actress and the category marked the first-ever nominations for CBS daytime’s Beyond the Gates when two actresses made the final cut. Only General Hospital is not represented among the actresses this year after Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) took home the trophy last year.
