Christmas in Salem came bearing gifts to Days of our Lives, as the audience was tuning-in to see what happened to Julie, Gabi, Abigail and a host of other Salemites.  In the latest ratings for the week of December 24-28th, which was the last full week of 2018 for television, DAYS moved on up in several key ratings categories.

First, DAYS overtook GH to gain the number three position in total viewers gaining (+196,000) from the previous week.  In addition, DAYS moved into the number two slot in the key 18-49 female demo, ahead of both The Bold and the Beautiful and GH.

The long-running NBC soap opera also landed at number three in the 18-34 demo, while ending up in the number two slot in the 25-54 female demo, as well.

The Young and the Restless also bounced back from an abyssal week, prior.  Y&R gained the most total viewers for the week netting +344,000, and did pick up viewers in all key demos.  The Bold and the Beautiful also fared well for the week in total viewers; adding +196,000, the same amount as DAYS.

General Hospital garnered +2,000 additional viewers for the week, and also added viewers for the week in demos 18-49 and 25-54, but found itself in fourth in total overall viewers.

Of note: repeats and episodes that did not count in the ratings system did weigh-in to final figures for the week from Nielsen.  To see the entire ratings picture via SON click here.

Days is the only soap worth watching. GH deserves to be in last place because it’s terrible

Totally agree Robert.

HARD KNOCKS : @Shelly AND Chris ; w/ Frank Valentini

I stand by my posts; General Hospital sucks

until you WRITE and FEATURE – less IS more – w/ Sonny and Carly… will the net gains be

give an EFFIN break . REALLY Frank ? you are that daft

AFFIRMATION

Yeah, this is just one week… yet it was thee week… Christmas holidays for TUNE IN. about the only thing that was worth remembering… was the repeat epi from 2005. 2005 where we got to see the oh so sublime MEN @work.

even Rebecca Herbst couldnt’ 100% focus… as she looked near unhinged with GREG VAUGHAN LOOKS so gorgeous… just the hottest

PLUS we got to see Ingo Rademacher…. !!!!! WOW those eyes have a life of their own.

THE TREAT : dag! Jaclyn Zeman was HOT .. she still is … a top draw… I love Bobbie to bits. any way off track… BRAD MAULE could ACT… steal the show why don’t you. he did

I saw Julie Berman – heart steal
I saw my Morgan as a youngster .. my baby
Monica is always a force … she’s thee show , even today
Tyler Christopher – the dream will never end

DAG and thru the roof… Greg Vaughan… @GH fired him to get the sullen moody soft spoken dark Jonathon Jackson… oh well. did I say Greg Vaughan is perfect @DAYS of OUR Lives

Ta-DA here ye here ye… even back in that 2005 episode… Sonny / Carly / Sam / Jason.. had no spark… LOOK in their eyes.. they are dead… still

the point is; no one recognizes @GH production … using Sonny and Carly to trap 18-49 women.. this is already in the pandemic stage… no 18 to 49 help on the way

it’s bad enough the first thing they know… this is a mobster family.. they are both old.. their kids are “boring” WHAT DO WE DO NOW

that doesn’t trap 18-49 year old women

STOP with the dullard.. you troupe out with so much

WHY would any one tune in to this.. yes, long time viewers are waiting.. but this

the desired demographic will not tune in to this… you lose

cannonball FIRE ‘this’

Climbing the charts – ON – any given week… the fluctuation will be

oh it’s with relish to see GH fall flat… thanks to Frank Valentini

WHAT GETS ME : 3. DAYS 2,412,000 (+196,000/-85,000) “from this time a year ago”

ALL the other 3 shows are at or near a 1/2 million viewers LESS; whereas @DAYs with -85,000

exemplary complimentary pat on the back… salute cheer Ron Carlivati.

Ron my man… my creed to you… WALK THE WALK

showcase and feature “your” TEAM give them a partay

Agree Patrick, Ron has brought Days back to must-see-TV!

I give props to Ron, the fantastic cast and production team for a jam-packed show every day. I have to watch on my DVR after work and when I think the show must soon be over, I look at the timing and often see that only 16-20 minutes have gone by. They make every minute mean something and I think that’s why they’re on the rise. Good on them!

I’ve watched DOOL since I was in kindergarten and remember a close-up on Francis Reed as my first soap memory. Hope to have many more memories for years to come.

“I” swear to you : I’ve thought the same thing

^^^ the whole post is read… just gavel

“…when I think the show must soon be over, I look at the timing and often see that only 16-20 minutes have gone by. They make every minute mean something and I think that’s why they’re on the rise”

@DAYS of OUR Lives; FEATURES

And they have so many characters in an episode, often you’ll see a character pop in the middle or the end of an episode. It might have to do with how they tape but it’s great.

It is good that GH fell to the bottom.
That happening should entice ABC to clean house and bring in new writers and producers.
or- They could let it fail til gone.

I watched 10 minutes of GH last night and tuned out.
I was too bored to sit through the rest of it and didn’t want to waste my time.

GH is too lackluster/stale/dull/boring to waste time on it, and that is a shame.

“Y & R” is a complete waste of time thanks to Mal “Canned like a Tuna” Young – abysmal storytelling all-around!! I cannot wait until Josh Griffith’s material starts airing and Mal Young’s “Y & R” goes to the wayside along with his career!!!

“Days” is now my new serialized daytime drama to watch!!!

@ Disney / ABC / General Hospital : @ DAYS of OUR Lives – N – @ Young and the Restless

have made and / are making changes… all within the last 2 years and reap the reward

General Hospital is stymied
General Hospital is LOSING w/Sonny and Carly; LOSING w/Sam and Jason; Losing w/Michael Franco Finn Peter

WHY ??? are you stuck with Frank Valentini ? Why not fire Shelly and Chris ?

Wonderful news, bravo to Days for the ratings going up. We need Vivian Alamain and her sidekick Ivan to come back to Days. They are hilarious. I miss my madam Vivian. Also bring back Anna Dimera and Bo Brady. Amen.

If only they could get Peter Reckell to return as Bo Brady!

I agree bring back Vivian and Ivan ,Days could use some laughs.

Days is must watch every day i agree about gh it should be last and bold better do something fast wayne is not cutting it

I’m pleased with DOOL, they have my attention. I appreciate the Y&R getting rid of Mal Young and can hardly wait for Josh Griffith and Anthony (Tony) Morina’s material to air. The Bold and The Beautiful is unbearable to watch, I recently began to FF now I can get through it in less than 5 min. It is the same stories, wash, rinse and repeat. Can Brad Bell come up with nothing more than Hope/Liam/Steffy or Bill/Brooke/Ridge triangles ad nauseam? One, two, maybe three occasions per year this show will write a new story focusing on other characters that allow firing on all cylinders. I am ready to tune out completely. GH has a great cast with much potential but the Carly/Sonny/Jason/Sam show is awful. It’s sad that each show has the potential to be great and they are being led down a path of destruction with talentless leadership. Fix the problem before we have no soap operas left to watch.

GH is on its last leg, I see GH being cancelled next year. I quit watching 2 years ago. Days is on fire, thanks to Ron. Days is the soap to watch, ratings have gone up, and Days is here to stay.

It’s about time Days of Our Lives returns to number three, because it is miles more entertaining than General Hospital.

Amen to this!

Days deserves all the praise its getting lately! From the renewal to the ratings boost!
The show has the best cast new and vets! Its nonstop plot development, cliffhangers everday cantmiss! It boogles my mind how large the Salem cast is yet they all have a storyline some major or minor! The writers are on overdrive and the cast give it their all!
Kudos and keep it going!
My only wish in 2019 is a arc for my fave 90s supercouples Carrie/ Austin and Belle/ShawnD( the original) ! Days has been so fun returning faves im getting a lil greedy! Lol, Pls Ron make it happen

I can’t wait for another Roman family reunion with Carrie AND Anna. this should be where they start with a solid much loved trio. MUCH LOVED.
@Ron Carlivati, Sir –
Christie Clark last visit was va va voom all decked out looking as sexy as all get out. this lady has sensuality ooze. Rafe NEEDS MUST HAVE a solid sexual relationship… Carrie can still carry a child. FLESH OUT. GET sexy back.

Roman and Anna . best stuff … To see Roman dancing cause he’s getting some, brings on the charm, his comedic to nurture to dramatic effect spills cause he’s that mans man AND this is all due to Josh Taylor

@RC this would be my one wish as well… along with just opening up that garden scenes where secrets spill… that crawling ivy… just get rid of it.. all the audience knows that’s what goes on. Lively, OPEN, love that cast.

you are the best

Is Carrie supposed to return? I thought she was, she should at least be on for the 55th anniversary in late Augst/early September. I know she couldn’t make it for the past one since she and her family were traveling the world (great for them!)

I always loved Carrie and want her back on the show!

Carrie will be back for the Memorial of Caroline Brady. But the Actress that play’s Carrie now lives in London with her family. So she said she still loves to come back to Days when it can be worked out. But not so easy anymore being she lives so far away.

Agree Damien, Days is on fire and has been since Ron C. took over as head writer a year and a half ago. Amazing writing, directing, acting/actors, crew, etc!

Congratulations and well deserved Days!

Days has been on fire ever since Ron C. took over a year and a half ago. Well Ron, the writing team, the cast and the crew! So glad the show was renewed for another year, it really is the best show.

I’m looking forward to the Caroline Brady memorial/funeral. I’m ready to have that breakdown lol. And imagine what Ron will have and who he’ll bring back for the 55th anniversary episodes!

Hey this old fart of 66 loves Days see even us old folks love Days.I don’t miss an episode ever.I do miss Marci though. So does my best friend. Kate is a good actress we just like Marci better.Leo is a riot. Just look at some of his outfits.Days needs a little bit more humor .Bring back Vivian.

I’m loving Days. However, I like General Hospital for the Ryan Chamberlain story; I’m glad that Victor’s back on Y.& R.(He makes it much better)

Congrats to Days , the cast & writing team, well deserved and well written story telling.I wish Y&R & GH were as good, sadly the writing on Y&R & GH is terrible , both soaps have a great long running characters but very poor storytelling

I dont put a lot of faith in these polls since Y&R is so bad and STILL #1? GH is bad but more watchable right now than Y&R! CBS supports their soaps a bit more so maybe thats why they stay on top. Where I live, that god awful Strahan show is the lead for GH! PUKE!

Y&R > GH

Good for Days. The show is really good and glad more people are watching.

Soap Alums Remembered During In Memoriam Segment at 78th Emmy Awards; Patrick Muldoon Omitted

In Memoriam Emmys 2026

During last night’s 78th annual Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony, as it does every year, the television academy paid tribute to those in the industry that they’ve lost over the last year; since the previous Emmys held each year in September.

Starting with an emotional tribute to the late Catherine O’Hara by three of her co-stars, Schitt’s Creek’s Annie Murphy and Dan Levy and Home Alone’s Macaulay Culkin, the segment then dovetailed into Noah Kahan performing “Bridge over Troubled Water” as the faces and the names of those being remembered were shown on the screen.

Daytime soap alums, who either stayed in the genre for the majority of their career, or went on to primetime success as well, were honored including: Anthony Geary (Luke, GH), Hayden Panettiere (Sarah, OLTL, Lizzie, GL, Juliette, Nashville), James Van Der Beek, (Dawson, Dawson’s Creek, and Stephen, ATWT), Gil Gerard (Alan, The Doctors), June Lockhart (Mariah, GH), Patricia Crowley (Mary, Port Charles and GH), Randolph Mantooth (Clay/Alex, Loving and The City, and Richard, GH) and Jon Cypher (Alex, ATWT and Arthur, Santa Barbara).

THOSE HONORED AND THOSE WHO WERE NOT

However, in a glaring omission, the producers of the In Memoriam failed to include Days of our Lives beloved star, Patrick Muldoon who played the OG Austin Reed and also Richard Hart on Melrose Place. Muldoon passed away in April of this year at 57.

After Kahan concluded his performance, a special tribute to Rob Reiner began with Jamie Lee Curtis taking to the stage to share some warm words about her late friend.

In a ironic and sad twist, Curtis shared ,“Last week, Robbie won an Emmy for guest actor in a comedy series for his beautiful work on The Bear, and he now holds the record of 48 years for the longest gap between acting Emmys, which was previously held by his father Carl Reiner, at 37 years.”

Reiner, who along with his wife, Michele Reiner were killed by their son, Nick Reiner, is currently awaiting a decision if he will stand trial. Prosecutors on Tuesday, shared they will not seek the death penalty if he is convicted at trial, but instead life in prison. Curtis said of Rob, “He was generous and kind and funny as hell, and a friend to all. We all miss Rob and Michele and all those we lost this year.” The Emmys then faded to black and went to commercial break.

So, were you happy to see those who you know from their work in soap operas included in the 2026 In Memoriam tribute at the Primetime Emmys? Share your thoughts in the comment section. But first, in case you missed it, you can watch it below.

Dolly Parton Remembered: Y&R Alum Alyvia Alyn Lind Shares Heartfelt Tribute to the Legendary Singer and Songwriter

Alyvia Alyn Lind and Dolly Parton

The world is in mourning on Tuesday, August 25 with the news of the passing of iconic and beloved country western singer/songwriter/actress Dolly Parton. The 11-time Grammy winner crafted and performed memorable hits such as “Jolene,” “I Will Always Love You,” 9 to 5″, and “Here You Come Again, ” to name but a few.

Parton died in Nashville today. She was 80-years-old. Not only was Dolly an iconic name in the world of music, she was also an actor, producer, playwright, theme park founder (Dollywood), and a noted philanthropist.

One of the people lucky enough to know and experience the life of Dolly through a different lens was Alyvia Alyn Lind, the one time Faith Newman of The Young and the Restless. Lind played the role of Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Sharon’s (Sharon Case) daughter on and off from 2011-2021.

ALVIA ALYN LIND PLAYED A YOUNG DOLLY

However, it was Lind, who portrayed a young Dolly in the television movie adaption of Parton’s song and book “A Coat of Many Colors” in 2015, and its sequel in 2016 Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love.

Parton and Lind shared a close bond following the project, famously performing a touching, emotional duet of Parton’s song “Angel Hill” together on Hallmark’s Home & Family.

Taking to her Instagram just a short time ago, Alyvia paid tribute to the one and only Parton, expressing, “I am truly at a loss for words. There are some people who come into your life and leave a mark that can never be erased. Dolly was one of those people.  will forever be grateful that I had the privilege of knowing her, learning from her, and carrying a piece of her with me through such an important and formative part of my childhood. Getting to play Dolly changed my life, but getting to know her changed my heart. Memories, lessons, laughter, and a light that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.”

Alyvia added, “The world will never be the same without her, but that light will live on in all of us who were lucky enough to experience it. Thank you for believing in me, for teaching me, for letting me be a small part of your story, and for being such a meaningful part of mine. Rest peacefully, Dolly. You will be missed more than words can ever say. Thank you for everything. ❤️
