RATINGS: ‘General Hospital’ Delivers Season High In Key Demos Reaching #2 in Daytime Dramas

General Hospital is a bit on Fiyah, as they say, of late. Last week in episodes airing August 18-22, storylines centering around Maxie (Kirsten Storms), Drew (Cameron Mathison), Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) and more helped the soap opera bring in some numbers to be proud of.

In story, after falling into a coma, after applying a tainted face cream tester, Maxie is fighting for her life, as viewers watched the heartbreak of her mother Felicia (Kristina Wagner) at her hospital bedside. As well, we watched Drew (Cameron Mathison) getting punched in the face and then trying to use it against Michael, and the mystery surrounding a very much alive Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) had fans talking.

Now, in the latest Nielsen ratings as released and noted by Soap Opera Network, the ABC daytime drama series had soared to second place in all the important key demos. In fact, GH received its best ratings since the week of March 11-15 2024, more specifically in Women 18-49 and in Women 25-54.

GH scored a 0.26 ratings share among Women 18-49,  as opposed to 0.16 the previous week, and 0.21 last year at this time. In the Women 25-54 demo, GH scored a 0.37 rating share, up from last week at 0.29, and last year at this time 0.29. In addition in total viewers, General Hospital was up +97,000 from the previous week, with 1,891 million overall tuning-in.

Overall, while The Young and the Restless lead the way for daytime dramas in the 18-49 demo, GH was right behind. While in the 25-54 demo, GH was ahead of The Bold and the Beautiful and slightly under Y&R.

So, what do you think of General Hospital’s latest ratings performance? Do you think the show is on fire? What are your favorite storylines at the moment? What don’t you like? Share your thoughts via the comment section.

everyday the show is on fire, hope they can keep it up, and not mess it up, there’s still a few things they need to work on, but I have to say everyday there’s something that makes the show fire up, whether its Drew adding to his enemies list, or Joss WSB escapade, Alexis gettin blackmailed to Kristina stepping on shit as usual, with Ava not far behind, (maybe thats why Ava and Kristina hate each other their so much alike), I would really like to see Elizabeth in a full time storyline, more Felicia too, and more Molly with Cody. Let’s go GH.

Except that the Drew “thing” is getting boring. I would love to punch that satisfied smirk off his face.

I am so sick of Drew, get rid of him. When is Ava going to get what’s coming to her, she gets away with everything?

I like Drew. He’s nice.

I just realized which “Sam” you are. You’re the talking dog who inspired David Berkowitz, right?

Britt’s parole from Hell probably contributed to the rise in ratings. If Drew has anything at all to do with it, it’s only because the word’s out about #Dragon Chow by Labor Day. And mortals are watching just so they can form their own theories about who’s going to send him down here!

Once again your prediction is wrong. Will something happen to Drew – most definitely. Death? TBD.

#TiredShtick

The schedule’s probably slightly off due to previous pre-emptions for news breaks and/or “sports events” that should have been on ESPN. But it will probably be “Labor Day” on the Port Charles calendar through all of next week. Especially with a rerun on Monday (as has been the usual holiday practice for years now).

So the dragons are still expecting a good dinner very soon.

Nice try, but…
It’s been a good year for non-planned GH preemptions. The only time they run a new ep on holidays is if they are multiple days behind – which is not the case this year.

They might not even mention Labor Day. Carly thanking Danny and Rocco on Friday leads us to believe the pool set has been dismantled for the season. Other than Nina and Ezra falling in, we had a summer without a pool catastrophe (i.e. Cody’s crash, Curtis’ shooting, Ned’s amnesiac fall or Kristina’s plunge).

Another Emmy for Best Daytime Drama is in sight! GH would be at over 2 million+ viewers if ABC would get rid of that horrible GMA3 leadin with only 1.3 million viewers.

I agree. Get rid of GMA3

Get rid of GMA3…2 x a day is more than enough……
I have watched GH since day one..Dr Hardy and nurse Jessie Brewer..watched the cast changed overv t he years…story lines..some good some not so good… as of today…dragging ….Waiting for Drew to do the Exit….watch Bret get herself back to the fold…cleaning up some of the story lines….still to m e # 1 soap on TV..

I’ve been very critical of Frank, the writers, and the direction of the show, and I feel rightfully so…but I’ll be the first to say that I’ve really been enjoying it lately. And apparently I’m not alone, with the best demo numbers they’ve had in 18 months.

They have some good old fashioned adventure and drama going on with Britt’s return, and everything going on at the Five Poppies with Josslyn and Vaughn, and the ultimate question still unanswered of who is behind the whole operation that also involves Sidwell, Professor Dalton, rogue WSB agent Collette, and those are just the people we know so far.

The drama and emotion with Maxie, which gave Kristina Wagner, Bradford Anderson, John York some meaty, emotional scenes for the first time in many years.

Then you have all the stuff with Drew and the ticking clock on when someone finally takes him out. It will just be a matter of who, with half of Port Charles either publicly threatening to kill him, talking about it privately, or having a reason to want to see him dead. The line of suspects will be out the door at the PCPD.

The stories are firing on all cylinders! Loving it! Acting is first rate, too.

Let’s not forget the return of Kathleen Gati ( Lisel ) Her return also must have brought back many viewers. Kathleen has been stealing the show ever since her first nurse’s ball performance.

Something needs to happen to Drew before someone kills him. Even though he deserves it. In addition, he needs to take acting lessons. Not a good actor. Other story lines are great. Get Maxine well and back!!!

GH deserves it. I hope it’s #1 soon. CM is really nailing it as a villain. I don’t want him killed off but what if he was shot and ended up in a wheelchair? That way, he gets his karma, but we don’t lose him on the show. And it’s so nice to have Britt back, love KT. I wish they would do a triangle with Britt/Jason/Liz because we never got a Sam/Jason/Liz triangle after Jason’s last return.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason and Britt Reach an Impasse; Is This the End of Their Relationship?

Jason and Britt

On the Friday, September 11 episode of General Hospital, Jason (Steve Burton) and Britt’s (Kelly Thiebaud) relationship becomes strained to potentially the point of no return.

Things take a turn when an unglued Britt having been traumatized by almost being killed by Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) asks Jason to back her up with the PCPD when she reports Anna for attempted murder.

However, Jason told Britt, he can’t. Jason shares that he does not believe Anna would have gone through with shooting her. Therefore, Britt was not in any real imminent danger. Britt is flabbergasted and hurt that Jason is refusing to tell the police what he actually witnessed for himself on Mount Emerson.

BRITT WANTS BACK UP FROM JASON

Jason counters that he can’t believe that Britt would want Anna punished. or sent to prison, or a mental facility after the trauma she endured while being locked up and mentally tortured while at Wyndemere.

He asks Britt, “How could you even say that you want her locked up or prosecuted for what she did when you knew she was being held prisoner and you did nothing to save her?” Britt is stunned by Jason’s response.

Coming up, official General Hospital spoilers share that on the upcoming Monday, September 14 episode, Jason confides in Carly (Laura Wright), while Britt is stung. In the video preview that aired at the end of the Friday, September 11 episode for this coming Monday, Britt says to Jason, “You don’t believe me. Do you?”

General Hospital head scribes, Chris Van Etten and Elizabeth Korte previously teased in their fall preview of the soap, “Britt and Jason have come a long way and fought a lot of enemies to be together. But the most stubborn obstacle to their happiness isn’t without, it’s within. Decisions Britt made to stay alive while under Cullum’s thumb will come back to haunt her and may prove too difficult for this unlikely couple to survive.”

So, what do you think will happen? Will Jason and Britt break-up over Britt’s lies and Jason’s unwillingness to report Anna’s crime against her? Do you want Jason and Britt to go their separate ways? If they do, will Britt become romantically involved with Dr. Tristan Roberts (Dean Geyer) ? If so, who do you pair Jason with? Anyone? Weigh-in via the comment section.

Kearran Giovanni

If Anna Devane’s (Finola Hughes) new therapist on General Hospital looks familiar to you, it’s because actress Kearran Giovanni, who plays Dr. Nichols, previously played a doctor on One Life to Live!.

Viewers tuning-in to the Thursday, September 10 episode of GH got their first look at Dr. Nichols who has been brought in to help Anna recover from her PTSD and trauma following the reveal that she has been suffering from a break in reality since before being put in mental health facility in France, after being gaslighted by Cullum and company earlier in the year.

One Life to Live fans will recall that Kearran Giovanni played Dr. Vivian Wright in 2009, and it was then she first worked with current General Hospital EP, Frank Valentini, who at the time was at the helm in Llanview.

WHERE ELSE HAVE YOU SEEN KEARRAN GIOVANNI?

Giovanni appeared on OLTL in the recurring role through 2012 and in the final ABC episode of the beloved series was the the ob/gyn who delivered Destiny Evans (Shenell Edmonds) and Matthew Buchanan’s (Eddie Alderson) baby into the world, whom they named Drew Buchanan II after Bo Buchanan’s (Robert S, Woods) late son. In addition, Vivian has been dating Shaun Evans (Sean Ringgold).

In addition to One Life to Love, Giovanni has very impressive credits having appeared in numerous TV series and motion pictures including starring in the TNT drama Major Crimes from 2012-18, ABC’s Designated Survivor 2017-19, the CW’s Black Lightning from 2019-20. Most recently, Giovanni appeared on the Fox series, The Resident and has a recurring role on the CW’s crime series, Walker from 202-2024.

HEALING ANNA

On today’s General Hospital, after Anna’s harrowing meltdown where she almost shot and killed Dr. Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) after seeing visions of “Peter August” (Wes Ramsey), Jason (Steve Burton) saved the day and talked Anna down from committing murder. Now, Dr. Nichols was introduced as a valuable staff member at the hospital.  Although, this marked the first time in the history of the show we have heard of her character.

So, do you remember seeing Kearran Giovanni on One Life to Live? Happy to see that Anna may have a qualified therapist in charge of her healing, unless the doctor turns out to be not on the up and up? Let us know your thoughts via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Anna Breaks Down in Front of Jason and Britt After Shots Are Fired

Published

on

By

Finola Hughes

The Wednesday, September 9 episode of General Hospital featured top-notch performances by Finola Hughes and Steve Burton, as Anna holds Jason and Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) at gunpoint on Mount Emerson.

Anna is not in her right mind as hallucinations of Peter (Wes Ramsey) overtake her, egging her on to shoot and kill Britt. Jason begs Anna to put down the gun, but it’s clear Anna is speaking to someone who is not there, but in a direction that is just past Britt.

Suddenly, Anna screams at Britt, “You’re just like your father!” Anna also tells Britt that she knew Britt was aware that she was locked up on Spoon Island and did nothing to save her. Britt turns to Jason and tells him she had no idea Anna was on the Island, “until Cullum showed up in Port Charles.” That declaration gave Jason pause.

“PETER” TAKES A BULLET

Next, Anna is overcome with angst, filled with tears and screams out, “I won’t let you beat me!” She fires the gun where the imaginary Peter was standing, as Britt screams and Jason dove to cover her. Now completely shaken, Jason took the weapon from Anna and ordered Britt to leave the scene as Anna collapsed in Jason’s arms.

Jason was so concerned for Anna. She reveals she’s been seeing visions of Peter August since France. Jason shared his theory with Anna that she was manifesting her worst fears about Faison. However he knows deep down Anna would never have shot Britt. Jason promises to come back and clean up the area, but would take Anna home first.

ANNA ADMITS TO EMMA SHE TRIED TO KILL BRITT

At Anna’s, Jason brings her in the front door as Emma is there. Jason tells Emma (Braedyn Bruner) he would like to return and spend the night. A confused and worried Emma get the full story from her grandmother.

Anna explains she tried to kill Britt and she is not as well as she was pretending to be in France. Cut to: Jason cleaning up the site of Anna’s plot against Britt on Mount Emerson. He moves over and finds bullet casings on the ground and examines one of them.

The story climax also signaled the end of the run for Wes Ramsey, who has been showing up on episodes over the last several months as Anna’s dark side conscience. Now that Anna was able to break the psychological hold visions of “Peter” had on her, it ends this latest return of Ramsey’s.

So, what did you think about the scenes between Anna and Jason? Do you think Jason and Britt’s relationship will come to an end now that seemingly Britt revealed she knew Anna was held captive after Cullum came to town? Glad to know Anna won’t be haunted by visions of Peter August anymore? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
