The ratings are out for the week of February 2nd through February 6h, and for this period it was ABC’s daytime drama General Hospital that scored strong numbers, and added viewers across the board.

GH went back over the 3 million mark in total viewers increasing their total to 3,156,00 and added + 169,000 – the most of all four network daytime dramas for the week.  Y&R added +102,000, and DAYS added +67.000 to their total viewer count, as well.  The action in Port Charles that week was surrounding the two bombs that were set to explode! One, to kill Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), and the other to kill the residents of Port Charles aboard the Haunted Star.

This was the week viewers also learned that Fluke could possibly be the real Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary), that Sonny (Maurice Benard) saved the day and then got pardoned, and that “Jake” (Billy Miller) fessed up to being under the control of Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers), and more.  GH also scored the most gains in all key womens demos: 18-34, 18-49, and 25-54.

Days of our Lives, which had the major drama of Sonny (Freddie Smith) being stabbed and his emergency surgery, and the set-up of the fallout between Will (Guy Wilson), Sonny and Paul (Christopher Sean), gave the NBC soap a bit of a boost in key demos ; women 18-49 and 25-54.  However,  DAYS is still  is being out-performed by all three other network daytime dramas.  CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful was the only show to lose total viewers for the week.  To view the entire ratings via SON click here.

So, what do you think of GH’s performance for the ratings week?  Thus far, which soap opera is delivering the best February Sweeps?  Comment below!

Had the Haunted Star blew up with the cast in it, and having a few killed off and others missing in the river it wouldve made for a more explosive week…also, Nathan and Dante shouldve been trapped in the Spenser home with only the corpse able to escape…lol…’See ya suckers!’ the corpse chuckles back at the rubble with the trap men underneath…they couldve said Helene used mind control on the corpse…lol

Sounds like an Abbot and Costello movie, jimh…LOL.

Isnt that what ive been watching…lol

Scooby Doo! They borrow the van that they used for the prison break.

Fred: Nicholas
Velma: Carly
Daphne: Kiki

Scooby: Foster

They solve the Fluke mystery WAY before the PCPD! They pull off Fluke’s mask and its “Old man Spencer!” Another mask “Its 70’s Disco Luke!” Another mask and its “Christopher Cross singing, “Think of Laura” Another mask and it is Laura! Another mask and its “Sofia Vergara” from ABC’s “Modern Family!” Another mask and its…

Sharon and Adam are the sexiest couple on daytime better than Jason and Kelly 🙂

@Carrie. I agree. No Chelsea and Adam please! Sadly, Nick and Sharon always end up together eventually.
Another sexy couple was Ronan and Phyllis/Michelle S.

There’s nothing sexy about Kelly Monaco. Posing for PLAYBOY does not sexy make. She is no Pam Anderson, she has beauty and sex appeal. Kelly has the sex appeal of a doorknob. I hope Billy Miller looks elsewhere now that he knows who he is. Furthermore, I cannot envision Steve Burton…Dillar the Pillar as the sexy, romantic type.

I, for one, and I know that I am not the only one – though the banshees will come on here in a meltdown to shriek otherwise (viewership is low, not nonexistent, if you can read), am really enjoying an Ejami free Days. Writing needs some improvement, but we do not need that couple back to survive. Just better written stories. I’ve enjoyed it more since they left than I have for a really long time. I know I can turn it on, and even if a part is kinda boring, I don’t have to worry about being ready to change the channel for their BS shrieking and loathing mixed with anger sex. Yay abuse! Not.
I love the existing cast, and I am wishing them the best. It will be a huge waste, if the rumors are true, that EJ and Sami will make an appearance. It’s pathetic. In the words of children everywhere… Let it go.
Let the show move on past it. I understand that Alison has said that she would come back for the 50th, but that should not have to mean her return is ruined by making about Ejami. Gag me.
Team Days to the end.

I don’t watch Days, but I have many friends who do and yes, you’re correct when you say that you are not the only one who is enjoying Days more sans Ejami.
It sounds like Days is on fire these days–there’s a lot of buzz.

Get in on the action, harry!

Kristen is on her way back with the baby, I can’t wait!

I will 4Ever Days. I am hearing really good reports. I am happy for Days fans.

Absolutely, DaysFan. I though I would really miss Sami, but I must admit, I am glad not to inhale the unhealthy relationship that was Ejami. My favorite character right now is Paul, so I hope his storyline will be one of meaning and substance….not another wishy-washy recycled triangle.

Always glad to see any of the soaps doing well, but GH’s Fluke story has been awful!

yes, I totally agree with you.

In fairness to Days it s in a time slot designed to lose . Its head to head against the #1 soap. NBC should do itself and Days a favor and switch the show to 3 pm . It will keep its own audience and gain the soapers that want to watch soaps all afternoon

Hey Marc, that is a great idea..Hopefully Days will get back on track..I started watching around after the Summer Olympics of 2012..The show got me hooked with in a few episodes and truly was the best soap in daytime for almost 2 years, hence their Daytime Emmy award for Best Soap

But boy this show went down the dumps quickly..Losing interesting characters played by solid actors left and right..Introducing new storylines that linger and lingggggggger with zero reward at the end..I had to stop watching in December.

I will tune back in and hopefully the new PTB will bring the spark back.

Omar, DAYS has made great strides in the last few weeks! You’re missing a lot!!

It’s not that simple. NBC cannot do that because 3 pm is not a network time slot for them. It contractually belongs to individual stations for syndicated or local programming.

It airs at the same GH does in my time zone… GH is in 3rd place . Been watching GH for over 43 years but I just might switch over to DOOL after all these years!! GH has turned in a Spoof of what it once was…. 🙁

Yes the wrapped up the Psycho storyline

And now..let’s get to the Jason and Silas story line with Sam

Jason and Silas? Ha! That might have been interesting. Now it’ll be the Sam, Patrick, Jason, Liz throw Robin in every few months and Rick plotting to win back Liz story…mix n match…

The Fluke story line on GH has bored me to death. The Valentine’s Day program was a huge disappointment.

Days has had some exciting moments between the Sonny/Will/Paul triangle and the Hope/Aidan horror story. I’ve been most interested in these two story lines.

Y&R has potential — I hope it pans out because right now I can play the entire show on FFWD and know what’s happening.

Bold & Beautiful – Needs some February sweeps action; it’s stalled.

I agree with you Carolyn…The FLUKE story line on GH was boring all along, but we were hoping for a huge and shocking surprise at the end..We got nothing but a stupid revelation..Really GH writers???..Still I watch and like the show for the pure sense of solid acting by their huge cast.

I think Days needs some serious help since I last watched..I will tune in to see how is doing.

Y&R seems to be getting back on track but then it starts to get back to stale mode…Still the huge cast has some serious acting chops and fun to watch.

B&B I been boycotting for close to a year..I refuse to support a show that films in places where civil rights are violated.

Omar,

The Fluke storyline has not ended. They are just now in the middle February sweeps. While I did expect it to end by the end of sweeps, I don’t even think this anymore, since Fluke announced he was ready to start the next “chapter”, and the spoilers are still full of Helena says this, Helena says that. By the way, she’s been on for 3 months straight. (Since Thanksgiving.) I’ve taken to doing something I haven’t done in years-fast-forwarding through Tony Geary scenes.
Fluke was fun at 1st, but TG’s been back for months & it’s still going. A viewer can only take so much. I like some other sl’s going on though.

Best comment I’ve heard !
You would think Sony would had thought of that too.

I doubt the Fluke storyline had anything to do with the ratings increase.

yes, amen to that!

Probably not BUT we all keep talking about it!

I have been watching 51 years since April 1, 1963! I used to watch all the ABC soaps when they were on less than an hour but when they went to an hour each I just stuck with GH!!!! I have never been sorry!

God bless you.

That’s because love means never having to say you’re sorry.

I definitely think GH is having the best sweeps story going– Y&R is second, Days is third and B&B is fourth because it has fallen into their lets repeat everything that happened last week mode. All they did this week was talked about what happened last week it became really tedious to watch.

Well I for one am loving GH. Like Fluke Or not, it has people talking, guessing and debating. I think its been fun and the ratings are proof that like it or not, people are watching!

I agree plus I am a huge TG fan. People bitch about Eric Braeden on Y&R to but he is another guy that once he is gone, there will never be another like him. Love him!

the rating # are so pointless, its the same game week after week month after month with Y&R at #1 BB at#2 and GH#3 and dool #4 it would take a miracle for this order to change, its a joke really the landscape of daytime is set in stone, the only thing that can explain why Y& R hasn’t been dethroned is because their audience is older and they are set in their ways, and the show can be crap and they still have that large audience that won’t go down till they start dropping dead .

Ratings are not pointless to the network. Ratings are crucial to programming, setting ad rates, and their bottom line. Remember ratings aren’t about what is good or bad, ratings just measure how many people are watching– why they watch matters little to networks. It is fans who make ratings some kind of competition that proves their show is better because the ratings are better or they get their nose out joint because they think their soap should be number one. So in that regard ratings are pointless because if you love a show, if it still is on the air for you to enjoy that is all that should count.

Mary sf very good point thnks for knocking some sense into me!

Aria,

I’ve always been interested with ratings, charts, graphs, ect (boring, right?), and I even made a living collecting them for a while, but I have major reservations are the Nielson ratings system. I use common sense, lol, and other means to reach my conclusions, as do most of us I guess.

While I have been behind the scenes, I haven’t been behind 1 particular shows scenes directly, still-I’ve never been able to fully invest in the show because I feel there are a couple folks there calling way more shots than their title/job duties call for. I feel like there are some insane egomaniacs that find it necessary to bad-mouth co-workers publicly, get them fired or run them off, so why should I care? The only reason I care or even mention it is because this article is about ratings, and for the reasons I listed I believe 1 of these shows, at least if soaps stick around long enough, will learn the hard way, like when some of their older viewers drop dead, that maybe they should’ve worked harder to allow the audience to invest in their younger generation viewers, appreciated their next generation of successful & popular actors, aka future vets. All the vets of today were at one time new. That’s all.

DAYS has quickly turned around! I’m loving the show again!! There’s room for improvement, but I’m very happy!!! I hope the new writers continue the onward and upward trend.

I hope DAYS manages to use an hourglass in a storyline for the 50th anniversary…Does anyone have storyline ideas as to how a hourglass would be used?

yeah, anything that involves Kristen! she could make an hourglass work. Maybe, the sand is EJ’s remains and somehow the magical Kristen DiMera does some hocus pocus and brings EJ back to life.
Oh, I don’t know. haha-ha. That’s something great to think about!

Well, Theresa suddenly remembers what happen to her with that evil Dr. and realizes he stole her embryo and planted it into Kristen(who will make it look like she was his victim too)…Theresa tells Clint, unaware he is working for that dr.(name escapes me) and Clint kidnaps her and takes her to that doctor…he injects her with some chemical that will kill her in an hour…she is tied up…he puts an hour glass in front of her to taunt her…he and Clyde flee…Miss Nancy Drew…i mean Melanie discovers Clint and the Dr. Evil were in cahoots, finds where they are keeping Theresa and is caught by those creeps…she is knocked unconcious and also injected…however, Melanie was able to text Brady her whereabouts…Brady doesnt see the text at first because he is distracted by Kristen who has introduced him to the baby claiming she had herself artificially inseminated and he was the donar…will Brady see the text message and save Theresa and Melanie before the hour glass runs out???

Sorry meant Clint not Clyde…

Good idea, jimh! I love it.

I don’t have a storyline idea, but I did think of a small plot point: A human size hourglass that releases all the sand in 1 hour, but the neck has a stopper to keep the sand on top until it’s time to count down the minutes. As the sand goes through the hourglass, a device is slowly revealed hidden in the sand…slowly but surely it is revealed to be a bomb set to go off when the last of the grains of sand runs through! Maybe it can be set up at the college as a countdown to it’s 50th anniversary also. Who would want to blow up the college…Maybe Clyde?

BTW, the evil doer you mentioned is Doctor Mandrake.

They should the hide the hourglass in their sets and make it a game for us to find it– because God knows those sets could use something to make them more interesting-LOL

They should put it in the town square…lol

lol Mary, You’re not playing fair! You wouldn’t really do that. What story would revolve around the hourglass? BTW, I was salivating when I first saw the Victor’s nightclub and Aiden’s cabin!!! They look good to me!!

Special note: One day, all soaps will have bigger budget cuts and DAYS is doing a fantastic job! Will the others?

Well, they could have a large hour glass in the time square with a bomb in it and when it explodes the sand spills out and covers Clyde, Ben, Jordan, Daniel and Melanie who all suffocate to death…bonus: the town is destroyed and Days gets new sets…lol

Sorry, meant town not time…lol

Well you have a point, no one can creatively reused sets like Days does. I have seen one set be five or six locations depending how they dress the set. So I give them props for that. But what I meant was they could do some kind of interactive contest. They would place an hourglass throughout the sets for say a week, and we would have to try to catch them all, then go online and say where there were and when. Then the winner of the contest could win an commemorative hourglass, or something from the show as a 50th anniversary keepsake. I know that isn’t what you had in mind, but I thought it might be fun and I got to throw in a cheap shot about the sets, but you’re right the nightclub and the cabin are a improvement, but to pay for it they had to downsize both the mansions to one room each.

A contest like that would be fun…sounds like Where’s Waldo…lol

GH did that with an Emmy statue a few years ago. It wasn’t a contest. But for a week, the Emmy would show up in scenes – on a bookshelf, at the nurse’s station, on someone’s desk, It was fun to “find” it so a contest would be great.

I would love a contest like that, Mary!

It can be a one of a kind hourglass! They should also have thousands of others mass produced that actually spin while playing the theme music…and maybe they can be signed by cast members at the purchasers request!

Like 4everDays said too…it could play the Days theme…An Hour Glass Music Box as the prize with Days 50th engraved on it…and 50 people would be declared winners drawn from all those who got the answers correct!!!

All the so called explosion was boring. Can we get some good writing on GH?

Hi Liz..
GH has many other stories besides the Fluke story that have been on going during the Fluke story..
Ava and her delivery of the baby and Nina and Franco to date have been awesome as are other great stories..
GH has not been only Fluke/Luke, it is the lead story but still there is much going on as Anna’s firing and Jake and Liz etc.. lots of excitement.. 🙂

maybe our blizzards in the east are helping GH I shut the show off, even stuck in this house won’t make me watch it any more.
Someone should find out who is counting the people watching.

Good for you , janet
now you no longer need to suffer through a soap that is not for you, not everyone can be a fan of GH (only special ones who ”get it” get it… lol 😉

GH is has gathered a cool million viewers since is was on the chopping block-
GH is loved by millions..
Hope you find a soap you will enjoy to watch.. Try DOOL, it has loyal fans..

I knew this would make you happy, Su. And, I am happy for you. Really!!
I agree with you. I do not regret tuning in this show. And, albeit I sometimes want to pull out my hair with the ridiculousness of some of the storylines, I love GH.

It always makes me laugh when people quit watching the show they are a fan of or once watched it regularly. It is your right but your not a fan. To me, GH is like family. No family is perfect but if you love them, you shouldnt shut them off.

GENERAL HOSPTIAL IS THE BEST. HAVE WATCHED IT FOR MANY YEARS.

I love GH been watching it for years, yes the fluke story has to end now , but I thinks it’s been so exciting I love this soap , wish sonny would shave his beard though.

Jasam is the reason I started watching GH, they were the reason I stopped and now they are the reason I am watching again. I am back to DVR and watching live when I know they will be on. If they aren’t on I am not watching. Besides JASAM there is no reason to watch. The rest of the show is boring. I wish they could either get rid of Ron or get him some help. This show is just to campy to me. I would like more realistic stories. Shirtless men don’t make a show. They need to be able to act. There is no love in the afternoon. I hate when they dumb down the characters. Hope TPTB will get a clue.

Ron does a good job and I love campy because it separates itself from the others. HOWEVER, I dont think he can write a good love story?

Despite all the negative comments about GH, im a true die hard GH fan forever #1 in my books lol Congrats GH 😉

Fluke?! really?

Glad to see GH was rewarded for that exciting week of shows with increased viewership numbers. It goes to show that despite all the negativity out there, the majority of the GH audience seems to be enjoying the Fluke storyline, since that story was the centerpiece of that week’s shows.

I have a question. In this day of modern technology, why do we have to wait a few weeks for soap opera ratings to come out, thus confusing fans, when all the ratings for other shows come out, in many cases, the very next day?
PS- I’ve always been skeptical of the accuracy of the Nielson system.

I think the PCPD handles the ratings!

I am looking forward to the Sonny/Paul/Will triangle, with Will emerging as the loser he is.
I am REALLY awaiting Kristen’s return with Theresa’s baby. K has a lot of ‘splainin’ to do. Did she even have sex with Brady nine months ago? I don’t think so….she was was in bed playing touchsies with Daniel. ….served no purpose as there was no er€£$!on ….the unsexy interlude

Other than the never-ending Fluke, guess-who game, GH has had the best storylines this past couple of years. It does deserve any, if all accolades given.

Nice to hear that GH is doing well. Unfortunately, they lost me as a viewer when they started rewriting history AGAIN and gave Jason a twin. This is 1 of 3 soaps that I actually viewed on day 1. It was my job to watch GH after school so I could update my mother when she got home from work. This was before Internet, VCRs, etc. We got our updates in the Saturday morning paper.

Stuck with GH thru all sorts of ups and downs, but the lack of focus on the heart of the show — the Webbers, Cassidines, Quartermaines and the Hardys over the years took a lot away. Nice to see some family members back, but I have moved on. I also like that some of my OLTL and AMC favs are on various other shows now, but there is only one Erica Kane and absolutely ONE Dorian Lord.

Come back AJ! I dont like when they rewrite history. I think the problem was GH acted like a kid in a candy store when OLTL was cancelled and signed some of their big talent. When Prospect Park laid the smack down, GH had to regroup with their OLTL actors and go to plan B. It sucks. Howarth, Easton and Alderson’s characters from OLTL were working. Frank and Ron had to re imagine those three characters because of the lawsuit and it has been horrible. ALL three are talented but Kiki, just the name is horrible and she is leaving, Silas is like watching paint dry, and Howarth is SO talented and he gets stuck playing FREAKO! I would love to know now if they could reboot those three characters since I believe the lawsuit has been settled? Comeback AJ!
