General Hospital
RATINGS: GH moves closer to # 3 spot! While DAYS also gains viewers!

Courtesy/ABC
It was a good week for daytime soaps, for the ratings period of April 23-27! General Hospital is inching closer and closer to finally getting out of the basement spot of the four daytime dramas! GH added +125,000 viewers and only 33,000 viewers separate them at this point, from the number three spot resident, Days of our Lives. But, with all the turmoil going on behind the scenes in Salem, the show managed to garner +7,000 viewers for the ratings period.
The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful, the always consistent number one and two soap added viewers as well! Y&R gained the most viewers of all the soaps for the ratings week adding +141,000 viewers, while B&B added another +56,000.
So what do you think of General Hospital’s gains? Will we see it at number three next week? The Young and the Restless adding the most viewers when many fans have criticized the show so badly for its lackluster storyline is also intriguing. And what of DAYS? Are you tuning in? Or, tuning out? And is B&B’s now long-running Hope/Liam/Steffy triangle keeping you hooked? Let us know your thoughts, after you have reviewed the complete ratings via Soap Opera Network here!
Not sure why more people aren’t tuning in to GH. I never thought it would hook me. I tuned in once the OLTL characters crossed over, but I am loving almost every story. I am really liking John McBain working with Anna Devane, as well as the crazy Connie story. I tuned in to Days for the gays, but I think the writing and acting lacks something.
Todd, IMO Chandler Massey is giving an unbelievably sensitive performance on Days, as Will Horton coming out. Now . . . he’s not in-your-face flambouyant. Or is that what you think is lacking in his acting?? If he isn’t nominated for an Emmy next year, there is no justice. Say what you will about the wild & crazy writing of Days, but the actors are top notch!
Chandler Massey is doing an excellent job… IMO. NeeNee, excellent read on Will’s acting… it’s very affecting… i find myself rooting for him… cheering, him on. loving his chemistry with grandma Marlena… aren’t they both turning in emmy calibur performances? YES. DOOL has to stay with this story to completion, at least till we’re done seeing how his parents, sammi and lucas deal with him coming out. with the Lexie story… has me crying. EJ is so good… abby’s new story with Lexie’s brother. have to mention… Nicole’s pregnancy… i want to see her happy… her very own child to love with her. i fear she’ll never truly get EJ.. cause of sammi… and Nicole is just as good with him as Sammi. How about Bo mixing it up with Adrienne? giving him a trio top notch performance with Adrienne, and Justin? does any one still care and remember justin and adrienne?
neenee, your right about the will Horton coming out story, It is well written, well it was well written, it seems like the story slowed down hope they arent going to ditch it.
#1 Y&R – LOVING Phick back together, but this show is a sad shell of its former self. When will the decision makers take action and let Bell/Hamner/Sheffer go. Genie Francis’s talent is wasted on this show, but we all knew it would be, didn’t we.
#2 B&B – Just cannot stomach this show, never have been able to.
#3 DAYS – Always 2 steps forward and 3 steps back for this show. When will they ever learn?
#4 GH – Good stuff lately! Ron Carlivati writes beautiful soap. It’s wonderful to see show runners in this day who understand soap opera and know how to give the fans what they want (in metered doses).
The writing on Y&R is shot, I never watch before, I took a look when they hire Deb Morgan, I still don’t unstd how they remain #1. Now that Victor and his daughter in law Sharon (twice over) are going to have sex, I am so gross out, I cannot watch.
Oh Goodness no!! Not Victor and Sharon..I watched Y&R back in 1999 when I dated a guy who watched it.I have not watched it since 2000. But, the idea of SHaron and Victor made me almost vomit…I would never watch that..Ick..!!
.,
The Y&R is international so not shocked when new views are gotten..
IF, GH were international I believe it would ridding in the #2 slot if not #1..
Ok I just watched the episodes and first of all when Sharon kiissed Victor the first time they were writing Ms.Case out because of contract problems she was gone 4 months. Now this time I was upset now I am over it if it takes that smug look off Phyliss,Nick,Adam,Victoria etc put her in the mansion and let them eat s and die I say you go Sharon you have been s—on long enough! They had me when they talked about Cassie & sorry Eric Braeden & Sharon Case make it work because of their mutual respect for each other trust me we are not going to see any sex scenes ! MAB is hyping this for all it is worth and I fell for it Fridays episode brought all that back for me Phyllis you and Nick deserve each other what you did to Sharon after Cassie died was unforgiveable so make each other miserable.
Oh wouldn’t it be a strange twist that when they hospitalize Connie that she has a perverted demented doctor rape her or something to add some more layers to the dip!
Shut up!!!!
No It wont, we already have a monster that raped Sam and I dont like the Idea that franco had his hands all over her, Im hoping that franco was lying just to screw with jason and sam and it turns out to be jasons baby and heather somehow messed with the results. How people get away with that I will never know I wouldnt know the first thing to do in messing with dna tests. And we also have that idiot Ronnie hes been attacking women forever and finally he will be caught, enough with the violence against women.
I hope so as well..I hope that a tape is found of Franco just watching Sam sleep and states that he never did it..
I agree with you I DON”T know how they get away with that either. I was just thinking it would be interesting to see what someone wit DID would do in such a scenario.
I have also felt since the JaSam pregancy story started that in the end, we will find out that Franco never raped Sam and Jason is the Dad. Of course, in typical soap style, we will probably find this out after Jason starts up with Elizabeth again, and Sam hooks up with John McBain. Maybe I have been watching soaps wayyyyy too many years, but I do see that happy ending for JaSam — down the road. On another note, I am sooooo loving GH, this week was great and Friday’s episode was riviting, I cannot wait until tomorrow. I think Starr and John McBain have fit right into the storylines quite well.
I think GH will be inching their way up the ratings chain, and will be back in the top two or quite possibly in that #1 spot again before we know it (my fingers are crossed, but I am not even sure that is necessary, the storylines are super)!!! Way to go GH !!!!!
Did anyone else think Robin Mattson playing Heather on GH is brilliant she reminded me of Bette Davis! I think that is one of the best things FV&RC have done is bringing back the character of Heather, now she would be the one to take care of the mob!
I don’t watch anything but GH and this show is getting so good that I can’t get enough!
I know..Before Frank V came on sometimes I would DVR but not watch the show for weeks..But now it is so good that I watch it every day and live!! I have not watched it live since I got a vcr back in 1985..Way to go GH..
Me too! I wait impatiently for the next day’s episode. The last time I watched GH everyday without fail, was when I got my VCR around the same time you got yours. Very expensive in those days! I’ve watched Y&R for the last 6 or 7 years and it has really gone downhill. It pales by comparison to GH. I hope more of the old GH fans come back as well as the OLTL fans who are missing that soap. I think they will be pleased with the integration. Ron Carlivati and Frank Valentini are BRILLIANT!
I will stay tuned in to Days as long as Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn are on, I just wish they were on more, and not just reduced to the background of the HORRIBLE Carrie/Rafe pairing. It’s frustrating that our man of action was pushed to the background at the safe house while the writers pushed Rafe and Carrie to the front burner.
On a positive note, it was great to see Charles Shaunessey back as Shane.
GH is clearly on the upswing, while DOOL is holding steady. GH is moving to overtake DOOL and contributing factors have to include FV/RC and the OLTL crossovers. Apparently, more people like the recent changes at GH than those that don’t.
Did anyone else catch the reference on GH today to a mother and daughter (Viki and Jessica) who had DID in Pennsylvania? I thought after the DID storyline on OLTL I might be tired of it but I am enjoying the craziness of Kate/Connie. Will there be more personalities to come?
I am not liking Jason blaming Sam or the way he is treating her. At this point, I think she should dump him if he can’t put her first during her pregnancy.
I totally agree with everything you said. I think it would be awsome if Sam could get more involved with John McBain. Remember Caleb and Livvie? What chemistry those two had. It lit up the TV screen. Something , in my opinion, the Jason/Sam pairing NEVER had.
Yes, I did catch the mother daughter did in pennsylvania, Maybe vicki can turn up for a book signing in port charles because, Of course her book is a best seller, She ends up liking it there, todd and starr are making it their home,Clint, FOR now, Can be in london, so she decides to stay. I am also upset the way jason is putting a rape victim aside because his feelings are hurt, If I was Sam I would leave to, She should go stay with her mother. I heard that there was going to be a big change in jason this could be it, I never thought he was cold before, now I do.
I also do not like the way Jason is treating Sam right now, but I do believe it is part of the grand scheme of things, to help reunite Jason/Elizabeth, as well as reuniting Kelly Monaco/Michael Easton aka Sam/John McB (I too enjoyed them together at Caleb and Livvie), but I think ultimately, way down the road, Jason and Sam will reunite. Unless, the fans end up liking the new pairings so much, then the writers might go in another direction. Barbara, I see that you have heard that there will be a big change for Jason, if that is going to be the case, then to get away from the heavy “mob driven” storylines, which I think they are already doing a good job on, then I hope they somehow get him back to wanting to be doctor, as he wanted before his accident years back. He can be a hot, sexy, loving, pensive doctor in a white lab coat, rather than a hot mob enforcer in black (though I must admit, I do like him in this role). I guess time will tell.
I am just about ready to give up on Days of Our LIves… I fast forward thru most of the episode.. . Thought the gay story would be good, but sooooo slowwwwww … and Sami leaving Rafe and then back with E.J and then back with Lucas… ..the show expects me to stay and watch this stuff… Now EJ not being Stefano’s son….. well the only person that can be the son will be Roman…… since he slept with Susan years ago..
New writers come in and then they have to fool around so much with the actors and who their parents are .. crazy… Over the show.. and will go spend my time watching General Hospital.. or just give up on Daytime and stick toe primetime and cable..
Give GH a try. You won’t be disappointed. It’s good soap, done with a quicker pace.
Im with Judy, Give general hospital a try its really good and getting better every day.
Go GH!!!!! Thank you Ron and Frank! You rock!
That’s what I have been saying. Loved the cat fight and cracked up at how good the acting was. I hope that Frank and Ron win Emmys.
They wont win emmys this year for general hospital, they should for One life to live. But next year you bet, they have changed general hospital from boring to the I cant wait to see what is going to happen tomorrow. And its been a very long time since I have said that. The cat fight was good, Hated to see it end, Carly and Kate/connie, they were very entertaining didnt know who to root for,Ended up wanting to see carly win this one.
DITTO Tina!!!!!
of all the soaps i like days of our lives the best.it is a lot like dallas,
Where are all the oil wells?
Great news with the GH ratings! The show has been steadily improving, and it’s nice to see the ratings finally start to reflect that. As I said on here a few weeks ago, Rome wasn’t built in a day, and it will take time for Frank Valentini and Ron Carlivati to clean up the mess left by their predecessors.
And it’s not a coincidence that they’ve seen their biggest viewership increases lately on weeks when beloved fan favorites like Finola Hughes, Tristan Rogers, and Kristina Wagner returned to the show.
Hopefully the people out there that still aren’t watching the show will give it another chance, or check it out for the first time in some cases. You don’t know what you’re missing!
I agree with your entire comment Dan. BTW, did anyone notice that SOAPNET has dumped “Saturday Night In the City (Y &R) marathon, for “Saturday Night In Port Charles”? I’m thrilled with the change.
Dan, I also agree with your comments – well said, and Judy, I am also SOOOO happy to see GH’s Soapnet marathon on Saturday night, rather than Sunday night!!!! I think that is a smart move, and will also hopefully garner even more viewers. I truly believe, now that GH has been picked up for at least another year, people are slowly becoming more willing to go back to it, or even try it out for the first time!!!! At this point, if someone tunes into GH, for sure, they will be hooked!!!!!
love GH it has improved so much. I want to yell from atop to let everyone know how good it has become. I can not get enough. I want more after show is over. I have not felt this way since Genie, Flicia, Frisco and heck the whole 80’s group. Please keep it up. I wish the ratings would reflect how good it is. No one has ever contacted me to ask what show I m watching. So many of us are not acounted for watching.
Could not agree more Sal. I find myself watching the clock every day waiting for GH to come on & then I am sorry when it ends! I haven’t felt this way about it in years. Everything about the show just seems more vibrant & colorful somehow.
And I have been saying the same thing for months-NOBODY has ever asked me what I watch every day so how accurate can these ratings possibly be?
I especially love scenes with Luke & Anna. And Heather & Luke crack me up.
GH is ON FIRE!! the other soaps are uneven at best right now, but I’ll keep watching. Not loving B&B’s love triangle…booooring! Talented, attractive cast but move on to other storylines please.
General Hospital is getting better and better. Thanks Ron!!! I loved your writing on One Life to Live. Even during you tenure at OLTL, I always wished you could write for GH as well . You are doing a great job at GH, I just wish you could write for OLTL as well. I miss OLTL but am loving GH again. Love the Connie / Kate story. I think Connie is the sane one. Connie / kate need to dump Sonny.
I love GH and want everyone to watch it! I am supporting the genre and am wwatching all four. GH is heads above the others.
I agree that DOOL would be better served if they used Deidre and Drake more and kept tehem for a long time. I also agree about the Carrie and rafe pairing… needs to stop! I am just getting tired of DOOL.
Y&R is really getting boring and yet it is the same old thing all the time.
B&B is also getting really tiring with the Steffy/Liam/Hope mess! Let’s get Steffy and Liam together! Oh and will someone tell them to cut the map business between LA and Aspen… do they think we are two year olds…ick just a time waster.
If the past 2 days is a sign of what is to come for GH we are in trouble again.
Watching a little girl chase Sonny around with a gun was just to much to watch.
Olivia, Liz,,,BORING. Where is Anna? And Patrick? What happened to Felicica? She gone already? Maggie? Sleeing or dead? Lots of storylines started and we were left hanging this week.
I advocated for the success of gh more than anyone. However these past 3 days I see sloppyness.
Starr chasing Sonny is just a way to get Tea from One Live to Live on GH..So, I hope you stick with it..Tea will be a great crossover..And I heard that she will be very pregnant with Victor’s baby..I hope that is true…I see Carly being matched with Todd Manning and hope that it works..
Sonny isnt going to press charges against poor starr she has lost a lot, Sonny would be the biggest hypocrite if he goes after her, She lost cole and hope, not going to happen.Maybe tea will go after sonny in a wrongful death suite.we have to find out who the real shooter is,I say kate/connie.Should find out soon tea is on set filming her scenes, will be good to see her.
I think Carly would be a great match with Todd! They had great chemistry in the short period of time Roger Howarth was on the show.
Debi, at first, I also thought – how ridiculous to have a young girl be able to pull one over on a mob boss, by holding a gun on him for a long period of time, BUT Ron C handled that so beautifully, by having Sonny say to Starr, “Don’t you think I could have gotten that gun away from you in a heartbeat, but I know you needed to get this off your chest, and say how you feel”. Something to that affect, which shows Sonny’s caring, vulnerable side, while also showing Starr’s hurt, frustration, despair and need for revenge. Hence, I think what started out odd, is ending up to be well written for both characters. Friday is cliffhanger day, so of course the storylines are left hanging. Maggie is probably dead, since she is leaving the show (fine with me, I never saw any use for that character), and I would hope we do see Felicia some more, and I think we will. I am sure we will get lots of answers this week, and more questions with other storylines, so tune in.
Also, Jason made mention in the same episode, that it could be Connie who shot out the tires, and that is what I have thought all along, as I am sure many fans have. So, I hope Connie does play out, as the ultimate culprit in this tragedy.
Elhu, You are so right,We did see the caring sonny, and poor starr, will she ever get over the loss of cole and hope? If maggie is dead (which I dont mind either) Its looking like heather did do it she did drug her, then again there may be more to the story. I also think, what is happening to jason and sam is a way of bringing liz and jason together and john and sam. I really dont want to see that happen, I loved caleb and livvi, but I dont think I want john and sam as a couple even though they look good together, We will see, I need more time to figure that story out.Jason and liz ended so long ago, I think its to late for a reunion, I do trust Ron in any changes who knows maybe it will work out. I hear felicia is staying on for a bit that will be nice .General hospital Is getting so much better, Its been so many years of mob stories its nice to see the other characters front and center, I also think that the cross overs from One life to live are a brilliant move they are blending in beautifully with the other characters from port charles. Its been nice chatting and I will tune in, Cant wait till tomorrow at 3, this fan will definitely have general hospital on.
Things are looking up for GH & ratings….That’s good news. There is still a good chance our soaps have more than a glimmer of staying on……. This has to continue…Too bad this didn’t happen for OLTL !!!! I want our soaps to sdtay on the T V. If this keeps up with the ratings. There’s a good chance they will………………The writers for GH now are the best..And turning GH around and getting more viewers interested in watching.. New & old viewers……….Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep the good work…To the writers of GH.. The ex-writers from OLTL….BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I`m glad to see that ratings are up for all the soaps, but especially for GH! This show has become must-see TV again, thanks to the improved writing and production. The addition of favorite characters from the past and a few transplants from OLTL have helped also. I look forward to every episode these days!
As much as I loved OLTL, I was skeptical about the crossovers. Wow was I WRONG! The integrating of the characters has been brilliant! Ron C and Frank V are incredible! Keep up the great work!
As I expected, the Days ratings for April 23-27, 2012 are up. This ought to give the NBC execs cause to rethink the dismissal of Marlene McPherson and Darrell Ray Thomas. That was a booboo that needs to be undone as quickly as possible.
Also, I don’t think there was much of the Will Horton story that week, was there? That should also speak volumes about what Days viewers want to watch. Unfortunately, some want what they want whether or not it is in the best interest of the show or not. That is sad.
It’s even sadder if viewers turn away from a well-written and heartfelt story because they don’t like it being about a gay man. IMO, that’s a whole lot sadder.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion…me to mine…you to yours. However, I make absolutely NO APOLOGY for not being interested in a story about a gay man, whether that story is well written or not.
How thrilling it must be for you to be apology-free. FYI, I didn’t see you being asked for one.
But I understand. I’m not terribly interested in storylines about self-limiting people – just too dull.
Your right boes, Will’s story is a good one, I keep waiting for him to tell Sami. I hope they are going to continue his story seems like it is getting put on the back burner, I hope not.
I love GH so much. It really should be #1. Every day the stories are so good that I cannot wait till the next day to see what happens. That is awesome story telling. Love my show.
Since I just recently started regularly watching DOOL I can say that I use to switch it over and get bored. I think it’s good right now. I happen to like Carrie and Austin. I don’t care either way about Jack.
It’s very very depressing that in 2012, people (and especially women) are praising a show like GH, where the writers think women are helpless, fragile creatures that STILL must be saved by the big, strong men. These stories were outdated in the 80s, and yet there are Shrewlu and Sam, helplessly waiting for their big bad boyfriends to save them. Across town we have Konnie and Snarly acting like 2 brainless creatures straight from an old episode of Dynasty. Back at the hospital, Olivia and Liz spent an hour gossiping like 2 old ladies about who is dating whom.
Watch an episode of Mad Men if you want to see adults, and women, acting like adults.
I totally agree on the women part and the sad thing is Y&R & B&B do the same thing women fighting over a man stupid ! As for days I have not watched for years so I do not know why but it seems like they alwayshave been made fun of etc.
I liked your comment above about Robin Mattson playing Heather. Heather has a lot of potential as a character and Robin is great. It might be more interesting if Heather turned out to be calculating rather than mentally ill.
I agree most of the female characters on GH are less than admirable and sometimes portray negative stereotypes (but there were exceptions with Robin, Anna, Lilia, Georgie). Did you ever watch OLTL? I thought many OLTL women were stronger and more positive as role models.
I watched OLTL on & off the Dorian & Vicki rivalry was always the best both actresses played well off each other. And Judith Light was great years ago her trial scene was still one of the best of any daytime actress. Sadly a lot of your current actresses do not have the depth the oldies did.
i am so happy that general hospital is getting stronger in their ratings. lets hope the ratings get higher and higher. i want viki buchanan on general hospital. please bring natalie with her to. starr is getting on my nerves. time for starr to go bye bye. so tired of her whining. she needs to go back to llanview now.
The only possible explanation for the Young and the Restless picking up viewers would be that it is now required viewing in prisons and institutions, and if law enforcement is making suspects watch the show until they break.
Because Maria Arena Bell has made the show sheer torture with her constantly repeating storylines, and her endless fascination with the repellent Victor, the psycho Phyllis, and the vacant-brained Sharon.
It is an utter shame that in this day and age of endangered soaps that she is being allowed to ruin this show because of nepotism.
Loving my GH, “it is indeed on fire” must see tv this year, am glad the ratings are up too! YeaH lol
Go GH!!!!! Congratulations to the best soap on air right now. I could NOT peel away from today’s episode and for the first time since OLTL, I cannot wait for tomorrow’s episode of a soap!
So happy for GH!!! Now if they suits don’t come in & mess it up again.. the best soap left on daytime might survive..just started watching B&B, Y&R & DOOL after both AMC & OLTL were cancelled. I started watching AMC since 1970 & OLTL sometime thereafter. B&B is just awful, what a bunch of really weird, weak women..the men are pretty strange too..Hope/Steffy have u seen Liam?? seems like so many shallow people.. Jeeze..Y&R is ok but the stories are pretty monotonous…they need some revving up!!! I do like DOOL especially the storyline with Will but then they just dropped it..I don’t like the core couples (Marlena & John & Bo & Hope) just because their characters are just too unbelievable & boring….let’s face it nothing left in daytime will replace AMC or OLTL..I have watched GH off & on for many, many years since I was a little kid & it was in B&W when my mom watched it..with Dr.Hardy, Audrey, Jessie & Phil Brewer..etc..I haven’t really liked it in recent years because of the mob stuff,,, but since Ron & Frank took over WOW!!! What a marked improvement, I am like most of the other people & I can’t wait to see it…now..except the way Jason is treating Sam..she was raped fool because of you fool!!! I can’t stand Liz..after everything she has done..why is she the “good one” yuk…other than that Luke is just jumping off the screen with the new storylines..even Sonny sounds better..The crossover OLTL people are great..& I think they could use some more of them I’d like to see Natalie come to PCPD…what are they going to do to get Sam & McBain together he is gonna leave his family?? I don’t like that..glad they got rid of Maggie & the Cassandra..Deadweight.. I want more Todd & Blair..
wow – great to see that Days, B&B and General Hospital all tied for 2nd place on the 18-24 rating! No losers on that one!
AND fantastic that General Hospital got 2nd place for the 18-49 rating for the season (September 18, 2011 thru April 29, 2012) beating out B&B and Days! BRAVO GH!!

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.
Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.
As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY
Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.
Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS
Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.
In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”
So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
