General Hospital
RATINGS: It's A Good Week For General Hospital!
The ratings are out for the week of August 12th -16th and the one network soap to gain viewers was ABC’s General Hospital!
GH added +83,000 in total viewers, and moved well ahead of DAYS for the third spot! DAYS lost the most total viewers for the ratings period with -113,000.
What was also of note was the Tuesday episode during the ratings period that we loved that featured Kathleen Gati as Dr. Obrecht in disguise at Mac and Felicia’s pre-wedding party at the Floating Rib, was the most watched episode of the week for GH! The soap also scored in the 18-49 key female demo adding +27,000 during the ratings week. And, GH also added viewers in the 18-34 female demo.
Elsewhere, The Young and the Restless although losing -9,000 in total viewers remained at number one with 4,511,000, and while The Bold and the Beautiful lost – 63,000 total viewers, it stayed in the number two spot with a total of 3,382,000. Check out the entire ratings picture here via SON.
Now it’s time for you to be our Soap Opera Programming Executive Armchair Quarterback of the week! Do you feel General Hospital now on the upswing again? What are you enjoying most on your favorite soaps? What would you do to the storylines to increase viewership on our favorite soap? Weigh-in!
General hospital is on fire again. dr. o singing was hilarious. the lady can sing. lol. Robin will be back in the fall. ratings will go higher and higher. now please bring back robert scorpio now.
I believe Robert will be back in the fall…maybe he and Holly will be the ones who rescue Robin and bring her home…
Yes yes i hope its true. robert needs to come back home. please more dr. o. i love her. i want to sing with dr. o. who knew dr. o can sing. i love her voice. great singer and she loves to dance to. lol.
We also need more Dr.O
Yes i agree . more dr. o . i want her to sing again. she can sing. i live dr. o.
Oh yeah….we need waaaay more of the dark lady doctor!!!! Would love to see GH put out some musical video promos by the creepy chanteuse….traditional tunes like those suggested in the previous post saluting the great Gati, plus some fun pop songs. How about “99 Luftballoons,” or “Addicted to Love?” Lotsa fab ’80’s selections to choose from….maybe even with some duets with other cast members or group songs led by Dr. O.!!!!! Endless possibilities….
Hahaha I loved Dr.O’s singing too!! I remember her dancing at the nurses ball!!!
Yes dr. o loves entertainment. she can sing. yes i do remember dr. o dancing at the nurses ball. it was so funny. lol.
Yes. Robert needs to come back soon. There are so many people important to Robert that need his help. Robin, Luke, Anna, Sean…
I love it that so many characters keep mentioning his name these days. Every time someone says Robert it makes my heart skip a beat. If GH wants to increase its ratings then bring back Tristan Rogers and give the guy an extended contract.
Poor Anna needs help at the PCPD. She still hasn’t solved who shot Olivia and now she has to figure out who shot Connie. The Jeromes have moved back to town. Anna is great at diffusing bombs and scares the crap out of people she arrests, but solving crimes…well, we know who does that best.
Glad for GH. Love the show!
me,too
GH has come out of the summer doldrums with a bang. RIP Connie. It is always fun when all the secrets are revealed on screen.. Maxie and her baby. Britt and who her mother is. Derek figuring out he is Sam’s father.
On Y&R it looks like all the drama is behind the scenes rather than on screen, but I suspect Mrs C’s memorial will bump up the ratings for that show soon.
On GH looking forward to Dante and Lulu finding out Britt is carrying their baby.
On Y&R although not thrill Dylan might be Nikki’s son she gave up for adoption, I am curious as to who the father is— since this must have happened before Victor came unto the scene- do I dare hope Paul is the bio-Daddy?
Every time the ratings get posted I get a chuckle over the reactions of something that is a roller coaster when it comes to numbers; up and down..
The only fan species who even pay rabid attention to ratings are soap fans..
When ratings are posted it’s usually a ”bash fest ” over blame and whatever, if down.
Anyways, ratings and soap fans is a frantic thing .. lol
I knew GH was doing well, needed no ratings to let me know that and even if GH had gone down, I would not care..
Love GH and the ratings up or down makes no difference to me.
I just enjoy my soaps, no ratings needed for me to do that.. 🙂
I am also a Y&R fan, and there is rarely a day that Y&R is better than GH; ratings are numbers not a preference..
The ratings are crucial; they should make a difference to you. They’re what makes the difference between the shows staying on the air or being cancelled ala OLTL and AMC.
YR has been good. Just some crap days thrown in there every so often, especially when Burton’s on. I’m expecting it to get worse later this fall once Josh’s writing runs out and we are faced with Phelps’ new writer choice who I am sure will have NO YR history knowledge.
I hope its Morgan who shot Connie…he goes to prison and Johnny saves him from a prisoner attack…released from prison a grateful Sonny and Johnny team up to fight the Jeromes!!!
Great story-line idea Jim!!!
Love this idea!!
Thanks…
I think it’s Ava. It can’t be AJ…( I LOVE AJ and hate all the AJ bashing) and I doubt it’s Franco (they need to redeem him for Roger to stick around…if they cart him off to jail or he’s the victim of Sonny’s revenge that won’t happen…unless they still attribute it to his recent surgery and devastation over losing Kiki..
I heared it was her from my niece who read a spoiler somewhere but it could be wrong
I think it will be Ava too. Sonny and Olivia were trapped in the elevator together so they are ruled out as suspects. Doubtful Julian would be the killer since the actor has signed a long term contract– also he was with Alexis at the time of the shooting. That leaves, AJ, Franco and Ava unaccounted for;who had motive to kill poor Connie. It won’t be Franco after all the writers did to get him on canvas and redeemed, plus they want to keep RH there. So that only leaves AJ and Ava– AJ is too obvious, so by process of elimination that leaves only one viable suspect— Ava. Of course someone joked that it was Kate– but it might be a suicide. Perhaps the stress of AJ threatening to kill her caused Connie to split personalities again and one of her alters killed the other– it is possible so I am not ruling that out either.
Maybe Kate shot Connie to get rid of her so Kate can have Sonny…lol
You jest, but it is a possible– maybe not for the reason you stated, but it could have been a suicide. With the stress of AJ threatening to kill her and all the guilt she was feeling over betraying Sonny and having been a lousy mother to her son being thrown into her face– she could have disassociated, and one of her alters, killed the other, using AJ’s gun that he left behind- he gets blamed– he confesses to it, because he was so drunk he thinks he actually believes he did it– eventually Olivia has some kind of vision — which leads Dante or Michael or Sonny to figure out Connie killed herself. Okay, a bit far fetched but still plausible don’t you think?
I was thinking about a possible suicide and was discussing it with my sister and niece last night but my niece continues to insist its Ava. Connie does seem to be under a lot of stress so i definately agree with you Mary a suicide is what happened here!
Enjoying GH recently…less of Franco, please!
noooo.. Franco is going rock!!
When the tumor was taken out the old Franco was flushed..
This Franco will be an active Q!
And RH will own 2013 Franco character– it’s coming! it will be awesome!!
I hate that Michael seems to have no qualms about what he is doing to his brother. Michael is like AJ in that he is making his brother hate him. I wish Morgan would ask Jax to adopt and say screw you to his father.
GH ratings went up this week? Well…duh!!!!! It was a week that featured the beloved GH vets: Anna, Duke, Mac, Felicia, Lucy and Kevin, plus Maxie and Dante and Lulu, Luke and Holly. What was missing? Franco, and the terrible trio of Morgan, Michael and Kiki. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see what characters create ratings spikes!!!! And which ones DO NOT!!!!!
Perfectly stated! I tuned in daily which I don’t normally do but with the vets having a s/l I m in again! It’s so interesting to me that the network wants ratings up with the mid range34-49 or so up, easy just give s/l to Anna, Felicia, etc bc those characters were the ones he grew up with and watched them evolve instead of drop off the canvas bc they hit their 40s! I love RH from OLTL. He is beyond talented but this whole Kiki, Franco etc makes me ff scenes.
General Hospital is wonderful to watch.
Serena might be coming back
Lucas is coming back
Sam father is front and center
The Cassidines are coming back
This is exciting news! Serena should return, hopefully played by Carly Schroeder again. I read not ling ago she’d be willing to return and I think her and Kin Shriner (Scotty Baldwin) are still close… I had a feeling Bobbie’s son Lucas might be coming back to Port Charles soon….his biological father is the presumed dead–and recently returned–Julian Jerome (William deVry), AKA Derek Wells. Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) was believed to be the father at one point. Lucas’s birth mother, Cheryl Stansbury, was Tiffany Hill’s (Sharon Wyatt) sister, who was involved with both Julian and Robert before she died. I hope this means we will see more visits from Bobbie Spencer (Jackie Zeman), too! Lucas & Felix will likely get together. Which Cassadines are returning? I presume it will be Constance Towers as Helena or her twin cousin. I wish Steve Nichols would resume the part of Stefan Cassadine (or return to Days of Our Lives as Steve Johnson/Patch. I’d also like to see Thaoo Penghlis (ex-Tony DiMera on Days) return as Victor Cassadine, the only surviving member of the original 3 brothers, who was sent to prison. He played the part over 30 years ago!
@John Eric THANK YOU for mentioning Victor Cassadine! I have been mentioning to the GH writers (NOT that they read my tweets) that Victor was NOT killed on Ice Princess Island (unlike Mikkos and Tony) but was in fact sent to prison. I think 32 years later, he would be getting released now and could easily be planning some masterful revenge storyline.
I don’t know why the writers insist on bringing back villains like Julian Jerome (whom we saw get killed on screen) when they could bring back LIVING bad guys! And since Thaoo Penghlis isn’t on DAYS anymore, I’m sure he would love to get back to work!
Here, here on the Thaao Penghlis idea….Victor was the most debonair and least diabolical Cassadine, not to say he wasn’t still devious and dangerous. Would love to see him back to wreak some havoc on PC….
It’s a shame Sharon Wyatt (ex-Tiffany Hill Donnely) is not in better health. If you recall, Tiff debuted as Victor Cassadine’s girlfriend, who Robert Scorpio stold from him, then dumped for Jackie Templeton (Demi Moore). I also imagine Victor would cause some trouble for Tiffany and her current husband, Sean Donnelly, who we saw recently!
GH is the BEST!!!
Right now, GH is the best on-air soap. When I attempt to manipulate my work schedule around a show, that’s a good thing. Btw, I haven’t heard much Katie hype lately. She still around?
You dont have to manipulate your work to watch GH..
you can watch it any time free on Hulu or on the ABC site .. 🙂
A lot of great stuff, but it’s heartbreaking to see A.J. being such a bad freefal- he is very much the Job of the show. People seem to forget that all his problems began before he was born because of the whole Lesley/Rick/Monica/Alan thing. What he really needs is sessions with Kevin Collins to stop all this self-loathing and learn to fight back in the right way. His future with Elizabeth is still iffy- if they do break up, put him with Sabrina- after all, she’s gonna need solace once Robin returns to Patrick!
I too love AJ. Never understood the AJ bashing…with all the characters that betray ie cheat, kill, backstab, for some reason most despise AJ. It’s like the fans have been brainwashed and jump on the bandwagon.
For me, AJ’s always been a sympathetic character. He’s not evil…he’s hurt, lost, insecure and searching for love and acceptance. When Micahael was taken away from him it was heartbreaking…he tried soooo hard to claim his son…he went to every length.
With the return of Sean Kaanan AJ is an equal force in the looks department, built, handsome…yet he’s vulnerable….trying so hard to be a good father and boyfriend…
Nicolas, whom i happen to love as well…cheated with Liz on his own brother! But he paints AJ as a loser…
Sonny and Carly? Love them…but do we have to list their faults?
Tracy? She’s constantly backstabibing everyone in her family and gloats (or barely blinks an eye) when family members she wasn’t fond of dies…
So back off of AJ! LOL…I’m rootin’ for ya…(ya fictioinal kid ya!)
I love AJ! SK hasn’t hit a false note since he has returned in the role, and I am tired of him being everyone’s punching bag!!! (Particularly Tracy’s…..) It’s about time the guy catches a break….after he escapes the bad rap for Connie’s murder, I wish nothing but good things for him, perhaps some success in business and a happy love life…at least for awhile!!!!
GH is hot again just wish Kelly Sullivan wasn’t being killed!
And that they eliminated “Sapprina” instead….still holding out hope for that one!!!!
oh,pleaseeeeeeeeeeee bring that one and only Robert Scorpio and Robin one more time to put the end of Dr. O,Britch, Jerry Jacks.. I’m glad Luke killed Helena C off the canava..too bad for Kelly Sullivan’s time to go to say Goodbye next week.. I will be cried just like Jason Morgan killed off from Faison 🙁 I just wish Jason come back to GH,b/c he was my favorite character of all time.
Welcome back GH!!! sorry but the show lost me for a while . A great big thank you Kimberly McCullough for coming back, I want my SCRUBS
OMG liesel singing “is that all there is” at the pre-wedding party was the most fun I had watching GH Since we lost Tod. I am starting to Love Brit and her Moma!
GH has been fantastic the last couple of weeks. Lots of vets and less of the OLTL3 and newbies. Hope TPTB are paying attention.
fridays show (yesterday 8/23) was riveting tv, in fact thursday was too the georgie stuff was just incredible. its what soaps try to do but it never really hits the mark but it did on gh.
i never thought id say this but I LOVE DR O. She is just so evil and funny! lol and I love Britt! Can you believe? I hated her a few months back.
At Days: sorry and sad about Chandler leaving!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is just THE BEST!
I heard that Kimberly McCullough is just coming back to wrap up her storyline with Patrick.
You heard wrong. She has signed a contract for an extended stay.
It was Classic GH with Anna, Luke, Lucy, Holly, Felicia, Duke all front and Center! OK, GH keep it up, you know where the magic is.
Gh is great, didn’t expect Connie to die but I liked Olivia with Sonny anyways. Not happy Robyn is coming back! Really like Patrick and Sabrina much more! And I’m thinking that Brit”s baby is Dante and Lulu……Brit implanted there goods to have this baby. Spinelli and Maxie get to have their Georgie. Hope one day Jason will be back and dumps y&r!
Cheers!
Simply put, GH is gaining in numbers because TPTB are giving us longtime viewers what we want. Luke and Laura–Genie Francis and Tony Geary–acting together again. What a tour de force from Genie. She laid all of her emotions bare–and she is drawing Tony Geary ever so slowly. We want L and L together as before, and we want to see Tony and Genie giving it all they’ve got–and they’ve got plenty! Always did have, always will. The created 2 indelible characters that can never be broken apart. If the writers continue to give them meaty scenes, GH will be number 1 in no time. It’s so simple, not complicated at all.
Whoever said soap operas were about teenyboppers, by the way? (So glad the veterans have taken front and center. Good acting and sexiness is ageless. Go Genie and Tony. And Finola Hughes–what style, what heart, what gumption. She’s so great! Keep her front and center. And with Robin (Kimberly McCullough) returning with a contract can Robert (Tristan Rogers) be far behind? These actors/characters will keep those number climbing!

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.
Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.
As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY
Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.
Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS
Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.
In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC
Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”
So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
