RATINGS: The Young and the Restless Hits Five-Month High in Total Viewers

Photo: JPI

The emergence of Aunt Jordan played by As the World Turns favorite Colleen Zenk, and Claire’s (Hayley Erin) machinations against Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott), gave CBS daytime’s The Young and the Restless a ratings spike.

For the week of November 13-17, 2023, (the 17th being the episode which featured Aunt Jordan’s first appearance in the cliffhanger) gave Y&R a total of 3.343 million viewers.

According to SON, the series celebrating their 50th anniversary season, added +168,000 week-to-week and all in all their highest number of viewers since the week of June 26-30, 2023.

One can only expect next week’s ratings which would be for the week of November 20-24th and the numbers for the following ratings week of November 27-December 1, to also bring in some hefty numbers for the top-rated soap opera, as viewers witnessed the drama that unfolded between the entire Newman family vs. Aunt Jordan and Claire’s vengeful plot.

In addition, Y&R’s sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful also had a strong week averaging 2.862 million viewers. B&B had a net gain of +66,000 viewers compared to the week prior.  The series continues to play up the story that has Eric Forrester (John McCook) trying to cope with the fact he has been told he only has a short time left to live.

Sad but CZ was pure campy I was embarrassed for all of them.

Agree with you 100 percent.

This story line on Y & R was straight up embarrassing!! It made no sense. The good actors had to act horribly because of the poorly written farce. I am beyond disappointed with all of it! Chance and Sharon?? She’s mold enough to be his mother!! Eeeewe!! Tucker and Ashley?? C’mon….again?? Really?? Who is writing this stuff???!!! It’s getting worse by the day! Fifty years and this is where they are now? Ugh!!!

So agree. the ending of her behind the grate was comical not suspenseful.

Did they forget it’s Christmas time? What kind of a show is that for The Christmas holidays I thought it was terrible. What a shame waste of time. If they can’t do better, they should hang up.. do you wanna restless oh I said did they forget it’s Christmas time what kind of a show is that for the Christmas holidays? I thought it was terrible what a shame shame waste of time if they can’t, they said that a lot of people like it a lot of people don’t like it to on talking about it, or you gonna be tired

I thought she did great and I am sure that she was the reason ratings were up, ATWT viewers wanted to see her. She looked fantastic, just like she did when ATWT ended.

Please! She was the best thing to happen to this sad-sack show in years! It was a shot of adrenalin.

The whole thing was very badly written, like cringe worthy. The only saving grace was the having the great Colleen Zenk on the screen again.

100% correct

It’s all because of Coleen Zenk. She is pure gold. She just won that emmy she has deserved for the past 30 years. If Y&R is smart, they will somehow find a way to keep her on Y&R permanently.

Absolutely! Remember the famous line by James to her: “Hello Barbara?” Pure gold!

Yes it was

So well deserved! MTS knocked it out of the park and better finally win her long overdue Emmy next year! And Colleen Zenk is a queen who has breathed new life into the show. All hail the queen and May she please stay forever!

Amen! Zenk can put this all back on track. Stop with the stupid switching jobs stories.

Unbelievable— Jordan’ is unarmed and no one goes for her to end the whole mess, unbelivable, I’d be on her after 10 seconds and secure her in 5..

As for the poisoning – Jordan’ would never give up the antidote, but- Clair seeing Jordan taken down would give it up after threats to her body’s well-being..

And- a call to 911 regarding the poisoning would be a good idea too..

It could have been put to rest in minutes when facing 2 unarmed dings-

The writers failed–for what’s to be a high drama thriller and not one person is armed, nonsense.

Well, Nick being shot – too little too late..

And- it’s like a flesh nonthreatening wound… story=fail…imo sigh

Nick wasn’t shot. He was stabbed

000pps on me.. yes, stabbed–brain burp from me ,,lol

It’s because it was an exciting story line. Too much corporate story lines. Let’s have more chance and summer. Does anyone else have an issue with Sharon and chance?

Yesss..I can’t stand Chance & Sharon together..she’s to old.. No chemistry period..Pls.. Nick can’t stay away from her..they shud be together. Let Chance be with Summer!

Absolutely agree!! Sharon is old enough to be his mother!

So true those writers need a dose of strong coffee

Yes! More Sharon and Chance. Love them. On Monday s episode they’re featured again! A cpl episodes amidst the boring Ashley Tucker Abbott scene they were the only thing worth watching. Love Sharon Case and Connor Fylodd together. Absolutely stunning together!

Let’s not confuse a ratings bump with the massive ratings decline for Y&R over the years. In 2 weeks it could, and most of the time is, erased.

The ratings are loyal viewers watching with hope in the back of their minds that the storytelling will improve. The bump is definitely because we all heard the awesome COLLEEN ZENK was coming on board.

What we got: IT, the clown from a Stephen King novel, popping his/her head up from being a sewer/air vent. Comical.

It’s news and exciting when the ratings continually uptick. But we know with most of griffiths stories that we will see a tiny bump and then reality sets in and a drop back down.

That is not success.

…Totally agree!!

I think the whole thing hooking Nicki up to an alcohol IV knowing she’s an alcoholic is just disgusting. What kind of message does this send. This is just the cruelest thing ever

What I found ridiculous was Victoria who is so clever in business… her ,Cole don’t even think of getting a DNA done. To be sure if Claire was their live daughter. First thing l thought of. To confirm either way. Yes.. writers take forever .. surprised it didn’t take a month to find Nikki.

An alcohol IV would be painful…putting Vodka into a person’s bloodstream

to cause alcoholism could/would destroy vital organs and even death..

Stupid writers,,

The plot and acting were terrible. BB is about as bad.

Agree totally! What are these writers being paid for? Stories are rehashed garbage from yrs ago…Same dialog week after week..B& B…I can’t stomach anymore of Eric coughing up blood & then kissing Donna, .I stopped watching after tht!! Having watched tht great Hope & Thomas chemistry..the rest is just not worth watching..Brooke is sickening with stupid lectures to Hope as if she were a child..I totally love Hope, great actress!!
Y& R going downhill fast..Nothing ever going on anymore except their hatred of Adam ! Sick of the Tucker drama..boringgggg!!

Geez. It’s like saying people prefer microwaved egg over rotten eggs. Garbage both.
Minus imo maybe the return of Danny,Cricket and Nina nothing s really happened the last several months.
Victor’s pretend illness was just plain stupid, the ptb are really forcing Ashley and Tucker as a couple and it’s just not happening, Nikki prior to this was so unbearable in her bitchiness and who knows or cares who’s in charge at any of the gazillion companies in tiny rural Wisconsin. Sharon and Chance a couple I’m really loving are on once a week if I’m lucky and Chance got shot and recovered in two spots.
Only credit goes to bringing back all the faves but a five month high from nothing is really not anything to brag about.

Sally–it is hard to tolerate now..She used to be an investing character..

And, poor Adam is stuck with her and putting up with her degrading him almost every time she opens her mouth..

The problem is, there are no other women that Adam could be with so he has to be

with her,,If I were Adam I’d throw Sally out the window into the garbage can and be a happy bachelor..

I would like know why Claire went after Nikki and not Victoria

Anytime Nikki is partaking in alcohol you can bet it’s entertaining. And usually there’s a hit & run involved . You people who complain its not realistic forget its make believe. Bravo Y&R. You’ve successfully entertained me.

Poor Nikki–the alcohol seems to have closed her eyes..Nikki is blind!!!

Can’t wait to see her driving into her next hit & run…

”my blindness made me do it ” lol

It’s been GREAT….. so riveting ‼️‼️

Waiting for drunk Nikki to drunkenly confess to hitting and killing Delia..

I’ve been watching Young and the restless since I was a teenager. I’m now in my 60s. This whole storyline made no sense whatsoever. I love Colleen Zenk. I was it as the worlds fan as well. Also saw her live in a few shows. She’s a fantastic actress. The young and the restless should definitely work to keep her there on a full-time basis, but the story makes no sense whatsoever. You need to revamp this current storyline. I agree with the comments below. So I had to wait to keep her on the show full-time and throw the story out the window. Also, Sharon and Chance make no sense at all. She is old enough to be his mother. I’m all for differences in ages but this is ridiculous. I definitely can see him with summer.. Please don’t embarrass Sharon case by putting her with such a younger man and why is Paul off the show, bring Paul back. Will be nice to see Paul involved with Colleen Zenk.

People wonder why soaps are dying is because the mean spirited comments about all the soaps today. You make the networks not care for there daytime dramas because they know it’s a losing battle. No matter what YR would do people is going to find something to bitch about the soap. If Bill Bell could come back to life people will still bitch about YR. YR doesn’t get a break regardless, I know it’s a shell of its former glory but I think there are some good stuff coming up on YR. Most of the time the haters are jealous because YR (and CBS) is still pretty strong on broadcast TV compared to GH & Days is streaming now. Bitch a blue streak because I’m sitting back and enjoying a glimmer of fun I’m watching on my soap. There are closeted viewers, people say they are turning it off or stop watching the show but it’s amazing the spike YR gets with viewers as GH & Days languish in the basement with backhoe.

—- GH Rules ! —–

For the majority (about 95%) of you, if you hate what you’re seeing, then why are you watching??? The addition of THE COLLEEN ZENK was by far the biggest casting surprise and coup in DECADES!!! I for one am really enjoying this story. Thank you Colleen for coming back to daytime. You’ve been missed!!

Loaded question… even storyline haters count as viewers which must add to the rating that keep the last 4 soaps going (?).

Agree that the return of Coleen Zenk is certainly helping the ratings for Y&R. It is NOT the writing for sure. Yes she deserves an Emmy. Loved her on ATWT. If Y&R is smart, they will keep her on Y&R. As for B&B, the Eric storyline has me in tears every day. Another Emmy is awaiting John McCook. Keep up the good work and B&B could reach 3M viewers.

People who are criticizing this story have obviously forgotten that in its prime and in its heyday, this show was pure melodramatic camp as written by Bill Bell!

Have we forgotten the decades of Sheila?!

How about David Kimble with KILLER carved into his forehead before he was crushed in a garbage compactor?

Brenda Dickson as Jill??

I could go on and on!

After many years of seemingly taking the LEAST dramatic path in all the stories, finally the show has some edge of your seat viewing!

It roped in all the vets. It plays right into the show history that we actually watched on air! And it gives the Newman family an entirely new member and dynamic.

I think this whole story is classic Y & R and is a long term umbrella story!

I also think it is kind of neat that Amelia Heinle and J. Eddie Peck played a couple on All My Children as Mia and Jake circa 2001.

Colleen Zink looks very frail! A at
How long will this story line with Nikki Newman last…it’s so boring. Can we sent her to the asylum or back to retirement…soon. Let’s move on!!!

Oh my gosh, Nikki is breaking their first rule of Alcoholics Anonymous. The first draw for a female is never ever have a mail sponsor!

I have watched since Snapper was on the show 50 yrs. I am sick and tired of seeing the witch snatch Harrison and Victoria’s daughter.
she is mentally unstable and we don’t need to promote that type of behavior in this work right now. It is sad that you have allowed young people involved in this type of situation. The witch should be taken off the show so the Newman’s can’t get on with their lives and especially Nicki.

(INTERVIEW) B&B’s Annika Noelle Reveals Her Lead Actress Emmy-Nominated Scenes, and the Ups and Downs of a Tough Year

When the nominees were announced last week for the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards, six women wound up in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category and that included The Bold and the Beautiful’s Annika Noelle (Hope Logan) who had quite the heavy on-screen story.

For months, Hope initially tried to hold her marriage to Liam (Scott Clifton) together, gave into her passion for Thomas (Matthew Atkinson), and became a stronger more independent woman in the process. Noelle was previously nominated in 2020 in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category, but this marks her first-time presence in the highly-coveted Lead Actress race.

On Friday, April 26th, The Bold and the Beautiful celebrated their leading 12 nominations, as well as being the show with the most acting nominations going into the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards set to air live on Friday, June 7 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.

Photo: JPI

During the on set celebration, when B&B’s Emmy-nominated executive producer and head writer, Brad Bell, introduced each of the acting nominees, they took a moment to address their colleagues, and for Annika, her speech was touching and emotional. She expressed, “I’m so grateful to Brad Bell for believing in this dark brunette, and allowing me to be a part of this family. And when we say that we’re a family, it’s not just because we get along. It is really because we are here for the majority of the year with each other. I know for a lot of people, 2023, was a difficult year.  The thing about this beautiful show is that it was my constant, and it’s what I could depend on during a tough year. And there are beautiful days like this when you come in and everything in your life is going amazingly. And then, there are days where your world is falling apart. And the crew, honestly, you guys kept me afloat this year and that’s why this is so meaningful to me.”

Photo: MFTV Inc

Annika added, “I don’t think I could have gotten through this year without the love and support from this family. So, thank you for being there for me on days that I needed the strength and you gave that to me. I’m so grateful to my co-stars and who I get to share these beautiful scenes with. I just wanted to say, I appreciate all of you and thank you so much. You all mean more to me than you will ever know.”

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Annika immediately following the Emmy nominee celebration, to her thoughts on this momentous occasion in her professional life and what it means to her personally, plus what did she choose for her scenes when Hope had such, shall we say, a torrid year of story to choose from. Here’s what she shared below.

Photo: JPI

Dare I say, I called this nomination for you? Back on New Year’s Eve, I revealed My “Best Of” Picks for 2023 and I had you as the Best Overall Performance by an Actress for the year, and alongside your fellow nominee, Cynthia Watros (Nina, GH), to boot!

ANNIKA: Thank you for believing in me that I could do it.

How did you to tackle your Emmy-nominated reel and what you were hoping to showcase?

ANNIKA: I was just so grateful to have the story to be able to pick from, and to really try to show the character growth and the arc of everything that happened to Hope Logan in the past year. For me, I really wanted to take the voters on a journey from her really being heavily influence by everyone’s opinions and everyone else’s voices, to her really coming into her own and going, “I don’t care if it’s the right or wrong choice, it’s my choice.”

Photo: JPI

What scenes did you end up submitting the landed you this Lead Actress Emmy nomination?

ANNIKA: I started with this great scene that our producers, Casey Kaspryzk and Rachel Herman actually remembered, where Hope walks in on her mother in her lingerie flirting with Ridge. And they remembered that scene. So, that really launched us off to Hope being kind of in this deep denial of, “I’m nothing like you. I’m not going to follow in your footsteps. I don’t have feelings for Thomas.” Cut to Liam confronting her about watching her give into her desires in Rome. And him saying, “Where were you Hope? At the Colosseum?” and then kind of in a roundabout full circle way, Brooke finding Thomas and Hope in bed together and then Hope really kind of going toe to toe with her mother. Then, ending with her kind of fully coming into her own as a woman and saying, “You wanted a divorce, Liam, here’s your divorce.” I really wanted to show the journey of her finding her own voice and advocating for her own choices and finding that inner strength, basically.

Photo: JPI

Was choosing the reel difficult given you had so much material within the 2023 calendar year of eligibility to consider?

ANNIKA: It was hard to pick and choose. There were a few I ended up leaving out. There was a really beautiful scene with Thomas where she realizes he overheard her kind of talking ill of him. That one was really hard to let go of.  I was also considering another scene with Liam where they actually signed the divorce papers. I’m just so grateful to even be able to have the material to choose from.

Photo: JPI

How did you find out you were nominated?

ANNIKA: Eva Basler, our VP of Communications & Talent Relations, called me and it meant so much to me to get that call from her. I tend to get nervous and have anxiety, so that day I just had to not think about it. So, I was out on a walk with my love, and my dog. We’re just in the middle of a cul-de-sac and my phone starts ringing. And it was the best surprise ever! Then, when I found out that Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke, B&B) got nominated alongside me, I immediately FaceTimed her. It was the funniest thing because she literally picks up and she is wearing a sun visor and sunglasses wrapped up on top of a horse as she’s in the middle of a mountain and in a valley on this beautiful white horse. It was the most picturesque thing.

Photos: ABC, JPI, NBC

I believe you know some of the women you are nominated with, obviously Katherine, but also Tamara Braun (Ava, Days), Finola Hughes, (Anna, GH), Cynthia Watros (Nina, GH) and Michelle Stafford (Phyllis, Y&R). What are your thoughts on these nominees?

ANNIKA: Well first, I’m just so excited to be in this category with the other women. Tamara Braun, who I was nominated with previously in the Supporting Actress category I’m excited that she’s in this category with me. Michelle Stafford, who I see in the hallway all the time, is great, and Finola Hughes, I’m just like obsessed with from afar. I even watched her on Watch What Happens Live!  Cynthia, I hear her work is tremendous, and with Katherine, I’m just really grateful to get to share this with her. To be honored amongst these legends of daytime is amazing. Just to be seen in that way, that means more to me than anything.

Photo: JPI

You mentioned during B&B’s on-set Emmy celebration that this past year was a difficult one for you, and that everyone at the show really helped you through it. What meaning would winning the Emmy hold for you?

ANNIKA: That would be overwhelming. I wouldn’t even know how to describe it – an honor, a privilege, a blessing? It would mean the world to me, especially after this past year. That’s why it’s so significant, because even on the darkest days, the storms passes. You just have to hold on for that brighter day.

So, what did you think about the scenes Annika submitted for Lead Actress? Were they some of your favorite moments from the Emmy season? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
