Rebecca Herbst shares her story of her firing & un-firing at GH!

Finally what many fans have waited for, a chance to hear directly from Rebecca Herbst on what went down behind-the-scenes a few months ago at General Hospital when the powers-that-be told the talented actress she had been let-go as Elizabeth Webber.  Of course later what transpired was an amazing fan backlash which seemed to have saved Herbst’s job!

In the new issue of ABC Soaps In Depth, Herbst told the publication on the firing, “It was surreal,” she recalls of that fateful Friday meeting with the show’s executives in which she was told the news. “I didn’t see it coming.” Elizabeth was the odd woman out in three romantic triangles, and is in the middle of a paternity issue between two brothers which is why the firing was a shocker to her. “That’s why it did take me by surprise,” she says with a sigh.

Well, Rebecca is front and center on GH starting today with the beginning of the Jake hit and run, and the aftermath! Stay tuned.

I am happy Becky is staying. I am really sad about this Jake storyline, but I know that there are going to be some power-house performances coming out of this, not only from Becky, but the rest of the GH cast involved in this, as well. That’s the reason I’m watching it.

i think it’s great rebecca is staying it’s really sad the story line with jake! i hope all turns out o.k. he is a beautiful little boy! i just hope liz ends up with lucky and not jason! liz and lucky are soul mates they have a long history together! the reason aidan is really there son together says it all! th at is what is called fate! like jason and sam belong together i hope to see jason and sam have a baby of there own! maybe once for a change something happy will occur for those 2 as… Read more »

I’m really upset that this chick gets to stay and other great actors or put on recurring status! What a bunch of bull! Her character was useless anyway. Instead of getting rid of Jake by a hit and run why not ELizabeth. Lucky & Siobhan could raise the kids.

I just wanted to add I think the reason that Jason & Liz had so many fans was the tasteful smoking hot love scene that created Jake. That was want did it for me ! Romantic at heart! A love that can never be makes fans want more! Sadly it is gone thanks RH & SB for the memories!

Jason and Liz did not have some many fans, if they did they would have been together long before Courtney/Sam.Liason only have fans on paper and thats due to Richard/Ryan pimping.Trust me if they had the fans, sshe would be with Jason.Sam got tied down, simply because they have chemistry and they are hot together and not boring. When JJ couldn’;t deal with Liz anymore, and R&R had her 6 fans whining for Jason and making up stuff in putting it in those mags and pimping the character, she should be on Broadway by now!Paper pimp ain’t good and thats all Liason… Read more »

The powers that be at GH should know that we have literally grown up with Rebecca as Elizabeth. We love her!! I didn’t even know that was going on til now. Maybe they should think about the characters that we cherish so dearly, and give them the great story lines. Instead of bringing back characters from the past that I/we absolutely hate. As in… A.J. Quartermaine, Heather Webber, Fasion. Get that hideous Connie Falconari off, and leave her as Kate. I personally hate A.J. and Heather so much, sometimes I can’t watch the show when their on.

Why the hell you do people keep whining about Jake? Jake was a bastard and nothing more.Liason was so bhot to get her into the Q’s they should have whin about that when AJ was on GH.Liz cannot do couples. the best she have ever been was with Lucky(JJ)and it wasn’t because of her skills but his!You fans get her thrown out there and get ran over by someone who can do it better.Liz needs to stop defending on everyone to get her ocer because, its going to happen she will get fired and no one is going to help… Read more »

Stars React to Alec Baldwin Fatally Shooting Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins & Injuring Director, Joel Souza, In Prop Gun Mishap On Set of ‘Rust’

UPDATED: Over the last 24 hours, the entertainment world has been stunned, by the horrific incident that took place on the set of the western drama Rust, while it was shooting scenes in New Mexico.

What is known is that Alec Baldwin (Ex-The Doctors, Knots Landing) discharged a prop gun that killed Director of Photography, Halyna Hutchins and injured director, Joel Souza.  The film also stars Frances Fisher (Ex-Edge of Night) and Jensen Ackles (Ex-Days of our Lives). Baldwin is also a producer on the film.

According to Variety, the prop gun contained a “live single round,” according to an email sent by IATSE Local 44 to its membership.

On Friday, Alec Baldwin made a statement via Twitter on his Hilaria and Alec Baldwin Foundation Twitter feed, expressing: “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours. I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”

Yesterday, The Sante Fe Sheriff’s Departments originally shared that “Hutchins, 42, and Souza, 48 were shot when a prop firearm was discharged by Alec Baldwin.  Ms. Hutchins was transported, via helicopter, to University of New Mexico Hospital where she was pronounced dead by medical personnel. Mr. Souza was transported by ambulance to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical center where he was undergoing treatment for his injuries. This investigation remains open and active. No charges have been filed in regard to this incident. Witnesses continue to be interviewed by detectives.”

This morning, Frances Fisher revealed in a twitter conversation with Patricia Arquette, that director Joel Souza had been released from the hospital.  Meanwhile, photographs of a distraught Baldwin emerged following the shooting.

The news of the Baldwin prop gun incident, isn’t the first time something like this has happened. Jon-Erik Hexum was killed on October 18, 1984, on the set of the TV show Cover Up when he accidentally shot himself in the head with a gun loaded with blanks. Then, in 1993, Brandon Lee, the son of martial arts legend Bruce Lee, died from a prop gun accident on the set of The Crow by a cast member.

As the news made its way through the entertainment community and mainstream news, several soap stars shared their reactions to the fatal shooting accident.

General Hospital’s Jon Lindstrom (Kevin/Ryan) expressed: “Feeling so sad for everyone involved in the tragedy on the #RustMovie set. I do know the film was staffed with experienced, thoughtful professionals. Please, let’s wait until we have the facts. Nothing positive will come from passing judgement or casting aspersions before then.”

General Hospital and Dynasty’s Emma Samms (Holly, Fallon) shared on her friend Jon-Erik Hexum’s death: This AWFUL tragedy on #Rust is unfathomable to me. If all on-set protocols were being adhered to, how, on earth, could it have happened? After what happened to Brandon Lee and my dear friend Jon-Erik Hexam, the firearm protocols became incredibly strict. I was told (when I was with him at the hospital afterwards) that Jon-Erik had been working with a completely empty gun all morning. A blank (still very dangerous) was loaded and then immediately there was a delay. Exhausted, he was allowed to fall asleep – loaded gun in hand. hey woke him, but there was immediately another delay. Jon-Erik put the gun to his head, forgetting it now contained a blank, (because he had just woken up) and jokingly pulled the trigger. He was not the kind of person to play around with a loaded gun. #fortherecord”

We will continue to post reactions and update this story.

What are your thoughts on the fatal shooting on the set of Rust? Comment below.  How can this not happen again, so everyone is safe in this working environment when ‘dangerous’ props are called for or used to make a movie or a TV show?
