Ricky Martin’s Nephew Withdraws Court Case and Charges Dropped; Singer Speaks Out for First Time Since Allegations

Photo: JPI

The allegations made against former General Hospital and global music superstar, Ricky Martin (Ex-Miguel) have been dropped.

Martin’s nephew, who’d accused Ricky of harassment and sexual abuse asked to have the case dismissed in a Puerto Rican court on Thursday.

In a statement, Ricky Martin’s attorneys shared: “Just as we had anticipated, the temporary protection order was not extended by the Court. The accuser confirmed to the court that his decision to dismiss the matter was his alone, without any outside influence or pressure, and the accuser confirmed he was satisfied with his legal representation in the matter. The request came from the accuser asking to dismiss the case. This was never anything more than a troubled individual making false allegations with absolutely nothing to substantiate them. We are glad that our client saw justice done and can now move forward with his life and his career.

For the first time since all of the legal trouble began for Martin, he spoke on the matter on video shared by TMZ:  “I’m in front of the cameras today because I really need to talk in order for me to start my healing process. For two weeks, I was not allowed to defend myself because I was following a procedure where the law obligated me not to talk until I was in front of a judge”Thank God (these) claims were proven to be false, but I’m going to tell you the truth. It has been so painful. It has been devastating for me, for my family, for my friends. I don’t wish this upon anybody.”

Ricky added: “To the person that was claiming this nonsense, I wish him the best. And I wish he finds the help so he can start a new life filled with love and truth and joy and he doesn’t hurt anybody else. Now, my priority is to heal. And how do I heal? With music. I cannot wait to be back on stage. I cannot wait to be back in front of the cameras, and entertain, which is what I do best.:  Martin ended the video with: “Thank you to all of my friends. Thank you to all the fans who always believed in me. You have no idea the strength that you gave me with every comment you wrote on social media. I wish you love and light and here we come, with the same strength and passion. God bless you all.”

Surprising . . . absolutely nobody.

His nephew has mental health issues, I knew Ricky Martin was innocent. Love you Ricky Martin.

Yeah, this one never had the “ring of truth” to it…. it’s not like Ricky Martin would have any problems finding a man outside the family. Really hope the nephew gets the help that he needs.

Right on! Why would he prey on some troubled young man, especially a relative when he can have his pick. He also couldn’t even say nephew but refers to him as ” the person claiming this nonsense “. I think it was all nonsense.

I also feel that while he can have his choice, why would he pursue this troubled young man,his own nephew that he refers to as ” the person claiming this nonsense “

What was not clear in the reporting is the accuser was the son of his step-sister – thus not biologically his nephew. Regardless, it’s time for this story to go away and for us to get back to criticizing the soap writers.

I appreciate your sharing that clarification, Steve. I have not read about this case anywhere but here, and I wouldn’t have known.

While I totally agree that this story never had the slightest ring of truth about it, it is completely irrelevant whether Ricky Martin would or would not have any problems finding a man other than the purported victim in this case, any more than it’s relevant, in a rape accusation, whether the man (usually) accused can or cannot get a woman to sleep with him via consent. Sexual predators can–and often do–have otherwise-normal sexual relationships as well. Let’s be careful to keep that in mind.

That said, nobody in the world, except possibly the accuser’s lawyer (and I’m not even sure about that), was surprised when this case fell apart, and in record time, too. I feel really bad for RM, just as I feel bad whenever this kind of thing happens, because I’m afraid the taint of it never really goes away; the lurid accusation is what tends to stick in people’s minds, not the fact that the accusation proved to be unfounded. Times two (at least) because he’s gay; that old perception that since gay people are “perverted,” they’re much more likely to commit sexual atrocities, dies hard (for example, the continuing perception that gay people are more likely to be child molesters, even though statistically that’s not the case at all). So now RM is stuck being “that guy that was accused of molesting his nephew,” because some people will insist that there HAD to be something going on, and a certain amount of the damage can’t be undone. It really sucks, and I wish RM the best (and all of us a better world in the future).
