General Hospital
Roger Howarth Staying Put at General Hospital!

Courtesy/ABC
After reports of lengthy contract talks, fan favorite Roger Howarth of General Hospital, has signed on to a new contract to continue with the ABC daytime drama series. This according to Soap Opera Digest.
Currently playing Franco on GH since 2013, the Daytime Emmy-winning star was best known for his work as Todd Manning on One Life to Live, and then came to General Hospital playing the same character in 2012 following the cancellation of the beloved soap. In story at present, Franco is involved in a a bit of a mystery with Jason (Billy Miller), Liz (Rebecca Herbst), and Jake (Hudson West).
So, happy to hear there is more RH on the way at GH? Comment below!
No, Franco sucks, he and Liz suck and Howarth, although he has a good reputation as an actor, seems bored and lazy as this freak!
i want Todd back…i
Great actor, funny, and “off the cuff” with his one-liners, awesome when paired with veterans like Kin Shriner. Boring as heck with Rebecca Herbst and Billy Miller-total snooze fest. Awful storyline, chasing a scarecrow in the woods, lol. Who cares?
“thank you” @dmr and Timmm
i’m just so disenchanted
that Frank , Jean, and Shelley
continue to waste so much talent.. and feature … ??? what ? BRAND NAMES
to further along… lazy writing, dumbed down writing… and just LACK of EFFORT.
I don’t care, either… he and Liz suck.
WASTE.. suck the life out of you.
I will message board this blog.. for what it’s worth
FRANK !
Jean !
Shelley!
WHAT the effin uck is wrong ?
three of you truly see life ? in Sonny / Carly / Jason / Sam / Finn / Hayden / Michael / Nelle ?????
YES.. I laud with fan
YES.. I will forever point to you as the dullard
the GH cast is vast .. huge.. a forever winsome canvas on which to draw
I”M DONE W/ Roger Howarth
he’s no longer the standard on which to beacon
bye bye Roger Howarth
@dmr.. the one character you left off.. Sam
she is the worst offender
nuJason knows this.. and he’s lackadaisical.. and we all know it
Frank and his Jean and Shelley can spin and turn how tired they’ve become
I love you short but to the point remarks, dmr. Billy Miller is not the Billy Miller of “yesterday” he has lost his punch.
Roger is still one of my faves. I don’t know about him and Rebecca, yet. All I know is that I love Elizabeth.
Her lapse in judgment, last year or so is forgiven and forgotten. She just does it for me, as an actress and as a character.
These ridiculous storylines do not help either Franco, or Jason, whose mumbling is like finger-nails on a chalk board.
Later.
You are right and I said it last year. Him and Kin are comedic gold! They should have lived together!
Patrick,
Don’t even get me started on Monotone Sam, the most boring character on the show! I’d rather watch paint dry than watch KM’s portrayal as Sam! Not to mention, the WORST private investigator EVER, only to be outdone out by the PCPD!
LOL, dmr. When I started watching GH three years ago, I was not familiar with Kelly Monaco, except for DANCING WITH THE STARS.
Sooo, the first time I saw her on GH, I was not sure why she, not only whispered her lines, but also, there was no intonation or inflection to her voice. I do like her, though.
But, when I commented upon her output, I was, summarily, put in my place……
….glad I’m not alone in this, LOL.
hey Timmm !
This franco is not freak, not at all..
He is writen way too mellow. Too mellow.
He needs someting stronger writen for him.
I would be happy if his tumor grew back!!! and he’d be exciting, again.
su0000, it goes without saying that his biggest problem is his material. He just resigned. I hope they promised him something juicy to sink his teeth into. He is good with Scotty and also with Heather.
I love Roger Howarth. That said, I’ll never forget how this character got its start and even Roger can’t pull off the redemption or make him likeable. I’d love to see them bring Roger back as a different character. Actually, now that ABC has rights to AMC and OLTL again, bring him back as Todd Manning. He was great as Todd.
And Finn as McBain. Both good actors wasted on horrible characters!
Oh well, no relief on the “Franco Front.” Just too much of the same old, same old, uninspired GH mix of Nina, Hayden, Ava, Sonny, Carly, Julian, Alexis and yes, Franco…..lather, rinse, repeat….ho hum.
I agree Shay!! By far the most boring GH writers ever!! Same old over and over again!! Terrific cast with the most lackluster writing!!
Amen, Omar! I swear you can miss multiple GH episodes and come back to find very little has happened….things move at a glacial pace until someone decides to throw the oddly inexplicable monkey-wrench into the dry proceedings and suddenly there’s some nonsensical plot point to dissect into the ultimately meaningless muck that it is! So much true talent wasted on so little real drama!
Yes, I get it…HaHa. Alanna. Perfect!!
As I said, there is a third sister, who is supposedly dead. There was also a brother Burt, or Bart. He’s dead, too. This family seems to be cursed, LOL.
I mentioned Aunt Charlotte, and the possibility of her connection with Helena. Do we know where Anna is being held, or imprisoned? Is she, indeed in captivity, in Hungary, as my Gran thinks?
Are she and Helena sisters? I would love for that to be true. My brain is throbbing with the turbulent visuals, my Shay…LOL.
Ooooohhh, Shay,
You sparked something in my head….Jennifer Bassey could very well be Charlotte Devane, the evil aunt worse than Helena……Saccubus, non-pareil.
That would be something in which to look forward…..and especially, her interaction with Valentin.
I do believe little Charlotte is named after her. Why? Remains to be seen.
Furthermore, I love what Mary SF said….how she depicts little Charlotte, except that, I think, she is a clone of big Charlotte’s not of Helena’s.
I agree, Timmmy…missed talking to you…
What’s going on with Franco? Is his tumor back? I love Roger…please give us something more. Was he en league with Helena? Please, no. If Franco is to remain, I want him whole, not bits and pieces of cryptic signals…is he good, is he bad?
Anyway, About Anna. I knew that was her twin Alex. I said it, albeit it did not seem feasible. This is very interesting. Is Alex Griffin’s mother? Or is Lindsey Devane his mother?
I wonder if the Devane evil aunt, Charlotte, makes an appearance flashback-style. I also mentioned that it cannot be a coincidence that little Charlotte Cassadine has the same name.
Is Valentin Griffin’s father?…. I know, I’m all over the place.
Bye.
I want Todd back
I want Todd back
I WANT TODD BACK
I WANT TODD BACK‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
I ALSO WANT THE CRAZYYYYYYYY GOOD,PASSIONATE “GENERAL HOSPITAL”
THAT CAPTURED MY ATTENTION DECADES AGO…..NOT THIS WATERED DOWN
IMITATION…THESE WRITERS MUST GO‼️‼️‼️‼️
Hey there, CeeCeeGirl…If Valentin is Griffin’s father, than who the heck is Nathan’s bio-daddy? Please tell me that these two are not bros and that Valentin’s not on course to challenging Sonny’s prodigious propensity for impregnating every woman with whom he comes into close proximity….save for the barren Nina, of course!!!! As for the “Alex” angle? Perhaps there was a third, heretofore unheard of, Devane sister, say, “Alanna????” (Get it, ALex+ANNA=?) Hey, anything’s possible on GH….LOL.
Nobody who is in the circle thought he was going anywhere! Tyler Christopher/Nick could not get a contract from old Frankie. These three will be there until ABC decides they are done ! I do not even read the recaps anymore when you have centered a show on lazy actors I get disgusted when Jane left so did I !
Sad, but true, k/kay…There are three or four of Frank’s “pets” that this show could certainly do without…they add nothing special to the mix with their ongoing, intrusive presence and totally dilute the traditional flavor of GH that so many of us are still craving…but they shall remain until the bitter end no matter, that’s for sure. Not even open to debate…..
@CeeCee…I fear seeking a familial Helena connection is asking for too much…it seems as though the Ice Queen’s “flashback” was merely used to placate those of us who were desirous of Constance Towers’ return, and will have no long-term bearing on her future appearances in Port Charles (Oh, please prove me wrong on that account, since I’m still dead-set against the notion—no pun intended—that Helena no longer shuffles along this mortal coil! I pray that her character is indeed still alive and well somewhere in soap limbo…) Having said that, I also have to wonder if Helena’s little pop-up from the “great beyond” is simply a mechanism for bringing in Jennifer Bassey’s unnamed character onto the GH canvas as a new replacement villainess in the same or similar vein…Oh, Good Lord, I hope not….that would be an absolute travesty!!!
@shay
CT looks amazing, but keep in mind that she’ll be turning 84 this week. Who knows how long she wants to deal with the grind of daytime production.
If JB’s character is related to Helena and the two share some fake flashback scenes, that might work. Wouldn’t it be interesting if Mikkos had an affair with Helena’s younger sister (JB), who turns out to be Valentin’s mother. Hmm…
I miss you to. I hope you had a wonderful Mothers Day! You did call the twin angle! I like it and all your theories about Griff are exciting BUT, can JELLY write it the right way???
@Steve.
Hello, Steve, your brainstorming is getting better and better. I love what you posted….Ms Bassey as Helena’s younger sister, and Valentin’s mother, to boot.
Is there any chance she is Charlotte Devane, who was married to Devane sisters’ father, at the time of her affair with Mikkos?
@Celia
I wouldn’t rule that out, but making JB Charlotte Devane might be “digging in the weeds” too much. The physical resemblance to CT is strong. I just can’t Bassey’s & Hughes’ acting styles melding.
As a side note, we just survived 2 Olivias. Are we really ready for 2 Charlottes? Lol
Thank you, Timmmy. You remembered!!!! Yes, I knew Alex would emerge sooner than later after noticing ‘Anna’ s awkward behavior at her first meeting with Valentin.
@Steve.
You are right, Steve….I’ Ve yet come to terms with little Jake and big Jake….yeah, very traumatic, LOL.
But, boy; Ms Bassey in action with any of the women in PC? ‘Manna from heaven’!!
So happy Roger’s staying put!!!!
boring get rid of him.
Yes! So excited he is staying. Hoping the Liz/Franco romance continues for a long time to come.
This is the BEST news!! I don’t know if I could have taken the heartbreak of Roger leaving GH. I have grown to love Franco, have always admired Roger, and now I’m treated to a fantastic storyline and pairing with Friz. He and Rebecca Herbst knock it out of the park and have sold the heck out of this pairing. Thank you GH for keeping Roger around for us fans!!
great post, Darcey. agree with everything you said.
YES!!!!!!! SO Happy to hear this news! I Love that he’s signed on and his story continues! AWESOME!!
I am so happy! Franco and Friz are my faves, so to hear that he signed a new contract is music to my ears.
YAAAAA! LOVE fRANCO!
Roger is the only one that could play the very unique Franco..
The new created Franco is absolutly nothing as the original, absolutly a new Franco..
Roger has this Franco as his.
Happy Roger/Franco will be on my screen.
(( an awesome unique charater, for sure ))
Agreed, su. But, I want to understand him. I sppise he wouldn’t be Franco if he acted any differently.
Franco SUCKS!!
The old Franco SUCKS played by James Franco!!!
The new Franco SUCKS even more, played by Roger Howarth!!
GH, sorry but you SUCKS..After 1983, I think, i am finally giving up on you!!
I love the enormity of fan voice
as I’ve posted to @Fanny
in 3-4 months time.. fan uproar.. can expect.. a new lifeline.
this trio is DOA… Frank/Jean/ Shelley
So, Omar….How do you REALLY feel about the character of Franco and GH, “in general????” LOL. (For the record, I’m none too pleased with the current clown of Port Charles, but James Franco’s version absolutely made my skin crawl….ick!)
I’m not a fan of the character regardless who plays him, but to think about it, visually, James Franco & Becky would make a hot couple
Thrilled! Roger is an incredible asset to Daytime & the Friz pairing is one of the best executed pairings in years!
GLAD TO READ THIS NEWS…..GREAT ACTOR….BUT NOW LETS GET THIS MAN A HAIRCUT, …CLEAN HIM UP… AND GIVE HIM SOME GOOD MATERIAL!!!!! THIS WHOLE STORY NOW IS HORRIBLE….
yeah.. right?
give him a spruced up look…
it’s not far reaching to think these actors do think they are worth more than they care to be
I’ve oft asked… ROGER Howarth.. at the very least.. give us a look we can overlook the bad writing and your lack of ability.
yikes.. Frank Jean and Shelley have lost
I couldn’t be happier. Roger is an amazing talent and GH is very lucky to have him.
Ditto!
Thrilled! Love Roger and I’m enjoying Franco more and more. I think he and Rebecca Herbst have great chemistry. I like how Liz is FINALLY showing loyalty. She ditched AJ as soon as the going got rough instead of standing by him. That always bothered me. So I think it’s great that she’s standing by and defending Franco. The way they interact, hold each other, etc is portrayed very naturally to me.
I think Roger’s as Franco ability to be at once comical or almost ridiculous and then somehow vulnerable, loving, concerned is very endearing. He’s showing strength and maturity and I never even think of James Franco’s portrayal. For me, it’s a new character and I like how he’s evolved. Also love his relationship with Kiki and Scotty.
Great news!
I truly thank you for you optimism.. that’s a huge let.. a huge bargain.. a huge SAVE.
means a lot
TPTB
do not listen… mindless is certainly keying in
at last we get this
Franco is at HIS BEST ; w/ Kiki, Heather, and Scotty
dynamic… combust… and REAL ZEAL
sorry.. but he’s just got to get out from Liz… she deserves more than the GH production want.. production for Roger Howarth
he’s not that big
all these posts are.. at best 50/50
his appeal and star is waning
Was any really surprised to learn he was staying on?
Because I wasn’t.
RH is a gifted actor but for the love of quality, can the writers please give him some decent material? I never thought I would fast forward through any scenes Roger is in.
I wrote you a reply, Patrick, which didn’t post. I THINK you were sincerely thanking me for certain parts of my post? (Can’t tell… 🙂 ) If so, thanks. As for the rest, all ll I can say is to each his own. I really think Liz and Franco are great together…and I love that they have art in common. Franco can bring the artist back in Liz if the writers ever go there. It’s so amazing to share creativity.
If they eventually break them up I can see her with Griffin, too. They’d make a gorgeous couple! They almost look physically built for each other.
I am beyond thrilled. The best story on GH the last year has been Friz. We’ve watched 2 people rebuild their shattered lives, grow from frenemies to friends to devoted lovers.
GH gave Friz a classic slow build that has given them a strong foundation.
Roger and Becky have off the charts chemistry be it flirty, comedic, banter, passion, etc…
On a show where GH’s male leads stammer thru their dialogue or sleep walk thru their scenes Roger gives it his all.
The Franco and Liz storyline needs to end, it hasn’t made sense from the beginning. Glad that Roger is staying, I like him as an actor.
So right! Writers NEED to write him away from Liz & Jason ASAP. He was much more interesting when he was with Nina.
GH needs to do everything they possibly can.. and bring back Kelly Sullivan…
in those few short days.. their was wildfire combustible passion
Todd and Connie takeover and lead
Nina is complete with Valentin
Britta and Nicholas return
you are talking sensual passionate tryst
Todd and Connie
Nina and Valentin
Britta and Nicholas
Dillon and Kiki
Brad and Lucas
Kevin and Laura
Ned and Olivia
Valentin and Nina
HOTTEST through the roof
I agree 100% this sucks!
I’m glad Roger is staying put because I have an interesting theory about Franco. What if Franco is not actually Franco? In theory, he is actually AJ Quatermaine. Maybe after he faked his death in 2005, AJ wanted to make Jason pay and so he does his research and finds out about Franco and has plastic surgery to assumed the real Franco’s identity and becomes the murdering “artist” but doesn’t kill the people since taking on his identity. This means the Franco currently played by Roger Howarth and James Franco from 2009 to 2012 was actually AJ Quartermaine
The tumor “Franco” got was either from his fall from the stairwell with AJ or from the car accident that gave Jason amnesia!
The AJ played by Sean Kanan from 2012 to 2014 was an imposter that AJ himself brainwashed into thinking he was AJ! It was all his plan to get Michael to hate Sonny and Carly after they took custody away from his son. However, AJ had successfully brainwashed himself to think he is Franco and now no one knows AJ is alive.
He actually worked with Helena Cassidine to have all his DNA switch to Franco’s and the imposter AJ to have his DNA so no one will know!
Again just a theory, not confirming anything!
So happy that RoHo is staying ❤️ Franco & Liz are my favourite part of GH!
Having never been a “Francophile”—during either of his “incarnations”—this news hardly gladdens my heart.
Best news for me..BRITBOX USA now LEGALLY has CORONATION STREET EMMERDALE AND EASTENDERS..i’ll save my afternoon cartoon time for SPONGEBOB!!
I hear you, davlestev1!!! I actually wrote you a detailed response about the British soaps and programming, in general, but it failed to post. Hope you received it in your inbox.
Yes…Shay…Shay…Shay…what you want…lol but I didn’t respond as there was no post..which probably had to do with your Square spoilers LOL..I WAS SURPRISED. .but now the spring trailer is out for EE and of course it’s bonkers. I wish Charlie Brooks would return ineed my Janine fix and rumors are flying she may be behind max vendetta and return after being wrongly jailed for Lucys murder. .and before she tumbled Dot probably said “oh I say “…Corrie lost Blanche. .the Dales lost Edna…I didn’t see Julie H in that but I did see her in CUCUMBER from the brilliant Russell t. Davies..I paired it with VICIOUS on PBS LOL…right now the best is EMMERDALE. .Ashley death from dementia. .Faith Dingle camp personified in the best way. .Pierce and Rhona. .and always Red Rock on Amazon Prime an extremely well done Irish Police soap. Corrie is a bit all over the place under Kate Oakes right now and she had such a good run on Emmerdale especially the Wool Pack siege with Debbie and Chas but she killed off my Val now I won’t hear her say in that annoying voice “eeerrrick” talking to Eric and that Medusa smile LOL. ..
Oh, good, Davlestev1! I’m so glad you received my initial response…didn’t mean to “spoil” your EE-watching! I just wanted you to know that I did make comment to you, in the event that my post was not sent your way….Oh so many great UK programs we could discuss, but since you mentioned “Vicious” I have to say that Frances de la Tour’s Violet was my absolute fave from that show! Is there anything that woman wouldn’t say (or do?) with her trademark great aplomb???? LOL…”Mason” was my other character of choice, as he was just so droll and unimpressed by everything around him….love Philip Voss!. However, the hair-brained Penelope drove me up a wall, her dottiness became deeply distracting, although I’ve seen Marcia Warren in other roles, and she was a laugh riot. Well, better go, as this is most definitely “off-topic!” But please do send your impressions on all shows British when opportunity knocks. Cheerio!
Franciphile??? HaHaHaHaHa!! That’s rich.
Franco and Jason beating the crap out of each other on the island was a great time! Otherwise, RH is under utilized on GH. Franco should go completely nuts, then Todd Manning could come back, especially since Carly is getting another divorce….. that would be fun. WhatEVER the material (and it hasn’t always been so great), RH does a fantastic job, and that is why he has such a loyal fan base. Plus, by now, Tea should be completely done with Victor, as Blair would be w Todd, so I say Blair and Victor and Todd and Tea…. yeah….
you are a blast.. i’m ready for this
Blair and Tea
at last
you know folks.. I will forever repeat
GH will LIVE ON… without … WITHOUT.. Carly / Sonny / Jason / Sam / Finn/ Hayden / Michael / Nelle
bring this show back… General Hospital… with intelligence
I’m happy he’s on gh I’m not hung up on him playing Franco as so many seem to be, I understand Todd is. Legacy character from the dead never coming back hence why it’s called oltl I’m sure since abc got the rights to the character if the actor wanted to play him he would . Plus nothing is written in stone, whose to say he won’t play Todd in the near future? People be patient I enjoy the actor so I’m going to concentrate on that
Liz and Franco are daytime version of disneys beauty and the beast!
I like that, Aria…great analogy.
Aria…Great way to put it. Originally I didn’t like them together, not sold on it yet, but they are growing on me. I’m also liking the way Franco has found a way to be in Jake’s life in an interesting and meaningful way. As well as Jason’s, except for a few vicious punches to jog his memory…HaHaHa. Love the way they play off each other. And give kudos to Roger as an actor having assumed two very serious bad-guy roles…Todd Manning/rapist and Franco/serial killer…and made something of them towards more likeable characters and redemption. But I hear these are the juicy roles actors like.
I don’t know… I think I read it in SOD… soap opera digest
whenever I read.. how.. serials are an amenable employment .. if you will
when an actor want’s to stay put and start a family
that’s their rationale.. and the fire wanes
I realize that their are 4 serials on the employment line and it’s a free for all
oy
I watch the headline acts that frank jean and shelley continue to feature.. and just nosedive … interest flies
of the leading men… what could possibly be that interesting about Sonny / Jason / Finn / and Michael ?
of the leading women : what’s not to miss about Carly / Sam / Hayden / and Nelle?
this mob style of writing of course is the easy way out. they don’t push the emote
the don’t push the heartbeat
they don’t push the leap to tune in
So Howarth was worth the tough negotiations but Tyler Christopher wasn’t?
I bpw down to you.. and it’s respectively… because your post resonates
why it doesn’t with Frank / Jean / Shelley
is summed up by all the naysay… disappointment and disillusionment with the three dullards.
I love Tyler Christopher and Nicholas Cassadine
GREAT points, you both make, Steven and Patrick.
Just because Mr Howarth renewed his contract doesn’t automatically mean that he’ll always be playing that freak of a character Franco. Personally, I’d like it if he stayed chained to that wall on Cassadine Island. Now that ABC has the rights back to the OLTL characters perhaps Todd Manning will indeed live again.
Great news, best actor on daytime.
So glad Emmy winning Roger and Emmy winning Rebecca are going to be together for a long time to come. Roger is a great asset to the show and you can tell he is bringing his A game , along with Rebecca.
Love how the romance built up slowly- allowing them to form a friendship and a bond before hopping into bed…unlike other couples.
They are exciting together. Roger with his off the cuff humor, his one liners add to the show.
I know of no other actor who would of been able to turn around the Franco character to someone who is loved by so many.
A lot of his fans know and love him from his time as Todd on OLTL.
Continue with the good writing for Friz and allow the actors to bring their special chemistry to the show. It is so nice to see 2 people together who make you believe it is a true romance and are just not forced to be together and are boring.
Haven’t seen a romance like this since 2015 with Billy and Rebecca…and the sparks they brought to the screen.
So glad you made the right decision on keeping Roger on GH.
If only Susan Haskell would join GH too… I miss them. They were anti-romance magic.
Franco and Jason on the island this week was great entertainment.
Loved it too! Happy Roger is staying! 🙂
Oh thank goodness!!! I just woke up and this was actually a part of a dream last night!!!!! lol! I’m really, really glad!!! Roger is an incredible actor and just a lovely, lovely man. I’ve had the honor of meeting and spending time with him twice and he is the anti-Todd. Just delightful, intelligent, well-spoken and FUNNY!!!!!! So relieved!!!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE Roger. Franco? Ugh.
Same goes for James Franco–love the actor but his storyline as Franco actually drove me away from GH for several years after 25+ years of watching.
Too bad they couldn’t make Roger getting a better hairstyle as part of his contract—
Some men can pull off the long hair edgy look, but not him, on him it just looks slimy and unkempt — and after a certain age on any man it looks silly— I know it sounds petty, but honestly part of the reason I cannot watch the character Franco other than the lame story line is his hair– it is such a distraction because all I want to do is get some scissors and cut it and since I can’t do that, I either close my eyes or change the channel— of course if the story and the performance was solid I probably wouldn’t notice or care about an actor’s hairstyle–
It’s important to make a distinction between Roger Howarth and the character of Franco. Howarth has proven himself to be a brilliant actor, but the character of Franco should never have been resurrected. Ever since that decision was made the character has not been written with any consistency or through-line. At this point we don’t understand Franco’s motivations or the true nature of his character, so it’s frustrating to watch him. The same exact thing is going on with the character of Nina. Soaps are all about the writing and even the best actors can only work with what they are given. In Howarth’s case I think he’s doing as well as anybody has a right to expect given the material.
You hit the nail right on the head. Both Franco and Nina are such muddles characters because the writing has been so inconsistent for them. Nina started off as a grade-A wacko who kidnapped pregnant ladies and induced labour, while Franco was a deranged serial killer with an obsession for Jason. Now, their characters are wildly different than how they began, which makes it confusing to understand their motives or where their stories are going, and even harder to root for them because they’re just so unlikable and unrelatable.
Yes, Mister Media and Jimmy,
Michelle and Roger started on the wrong foot. So disappointing….their fate was sealed from the onset.
Such great thespians, both…..and, it is discouraging for those who were not familiar with these actors, to have their antipathy stand in the way of truly appreciating their acting skills.
I could not agree with you more, Mister Media.
POSTS continually nail all the rationale
I thank all of this
for bringing perspective
Franco is brilliant .. with Kiki / Heather / and Scotty
BRILLIANT
I LOVE Rebecca Herbst… never count her out
she’s being propped to prop RH Franco
there’s only so much the audience can waste
do I think Roger Howarth and Franco are well fused
in the love department… yeah it was believable with Nina.. because they played this OUT
with Blair… absolutely.. because of Kassie DePaiva
anyway it’s long in the tooth
I hate that he is continually plaed 2nd banana to Jason and Sam… that’s the crime
@GH give FRANCO a real job.. distract.. tell us more
LISTEN all this psycho babble.. with his artsy fartsy ways
is legit
it doesn’t wash with the audience who knows he s the top nut job, who cares if he had a tumor removed
he needs to be in charge.. and leading the pack.. as Todd.. when he was in charge of the spectator… and he ruled how the denizen played
I love Roger Howarth, but I can’t stand Franco. The character should never have been brought back, and Howarth should have been given a much more likable character to play, because his talents have been very underutilized in this role.
Truthfully, I would have no problem with Franco being killed off and Roger coming back in six months or a year as Todd Manning again, or an entirely different character, perhaps a Quartermaine or a previously unheard-of Cassadine.
This Franco-Liz-Jake storyline is stupid and boring. Roger needs to ask for new material if he hasnt already done so.
I love the actor but wish he was playing Todd Manning again. I wish GH would get rid of Franco and bring Todd back.
Oh, Blake, how right you are! Todd, with that wicked grin, fantastic body, gorgeous hair, and a sense of sexy playfulness, used to make me weak in the knees even while sitting down. Franco is a poor substitute, just as that reprehensible Nina is a waste of Michelle Stafford.
Oh I miss how they were give him shirtless scenes! He has such an amazing chest, and a year or two ago they had him shirtless in a lab chained up and he had great salt and pepper grey hair on his chest. Yowza!
I don’t even know if Todd would feel like Todd anymore. So much time has passed…wouldn’t be interacting with the same characters…different writers. If OLTL came back…that’s be different. But on GH…dunno.
I’m so glad for Roger and general hospital
I will use song lyrics to express how I feel: “such a shame, the way you play around with my heart, such a shame the way you HURT me.”
Way to hurt fans once again PTB. We all know the Franco character isn’t working with the majority of fans.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.
Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.
As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY
Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.
Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS
Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.
In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”
So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
