General Hospital
Ryan Carnes Returning To General Hospital as Lucas Jones!

Courtesy/IMDB
With all the chatter about Lucas Jones over the last week or so on General Hospital, we knew that the adopted son of Bobbie Spencer (Jackie Zeman) and Tony Jones (Brad Maule), would not be far behind! Especially since he is the bio-son of Julian Jerome (William deVry) who just discovered that there is a guy named, “Lucas”, who people have bantered about before him!
Now today comes confirmation, which began last week with an elusive tweet from none other than the first older version of Lucas Jones himself, sexy Ryan Carnes! The actor tweeted on December 4th, “Like a ship lost in the night at sea, wondering where my next port will be…” Obviously, the port is none other than Port Charles!
ABC Soaps In Depth spoke with GH’s executive producer, Frank Valentini on the return of Carnes, where he stated, “Yes, he’s coming back. I got to meet him the other day. I like him a lot.”
Carnes last appeared on GH in 2004-2005. After Carnes left the show the soap opera brought back the character played by Days of our Lives Drake Hogestyn’s son, Ben. It was then that the character came out to his family and friends.
Recently on GH, Bobbie revealed that Lucas was living in Seattle, Washington and was still looking for the perfect man! So does this mean Lucas will become part of a triangle with Felix (Marc Anthony Samuel) and Brad (Parry Shen)? No word on whether Lucas is coming back as a recurring or contract player at this point in time. On-Air On-Soaps will keep you posted as more details come to light!
As for Ryan Carnes, viewers not only remember him from General Hospital, but as the boyfriend of Bree Van de Kamp’s son Andrew’s on Desperate Housewives. He is also remembered for the cult film, Eating Out!
So, what do you think about the return of Ryan Carnes as Lucas? Do you think he is coming back for a major storyline? What do you think will happen when Lucas sets foot in Port Charles? Comment below!
Ryan Carnes as Lucas Jones WOW!!
FV and RC are bringing us back the good ol’ days!!
I am loving GH!!
Never a dull moment and the gathering of a great history cast, is awesome!!
GH is finding its’ roots 🙂
GH is; I can’t wait for next day TV!!!
Great news. With Julian back from the dead and Bobbie also making appearances, it’s a good time to bring Lucas back. He will connect Luke, Sam, Carly, Kiki in a very interesting way.
I hope Lucas and Kiki hook up!
Lucas is gay, and he is also kiki’s cousin after what was revealed about him being Julian’s son.
I have to say I am surprise, I honestly thought they would go with a unknown but I am a fan of Ryan Carnes and he is definitely not afraid to play a gay character. It will be interesting to see how Julian will react to having a gay son.
Thaao Penghlis as Victor Cassadine!
and
Ryan Carnes as Lucas Jones!
love it !!!!
((an awesome cast and ‘new’ stories FV, RC, and writers are giving us!!
@su000 Thank you! I had no idea TP was coming back as Victor! I have Tweeted the writers numerous times and even messaged FV/RC on Facebook to remind them that VIctor Cassadine didn’t die on Ice Princess Island. I am beyond psyched! My only regret is that Tristan Rogers aka “Robert Scorpio” won’t be a part of this unholy reunion. I guess that’s the big Feb. Sweeps they were talking about!
Perfect choice.
I hope they give him a real love life and not just some woman’s “gay best friend.”
why would he have to have a love interest?
He will have much drama in his life and will be fine without a partner ..
I am hoping they will pair him up with Felix who can do so much better than Brad.
I hope he is not paired up for a very long time!!!
whats so terrible about being free..
And what’s wrong with being involved with someone? Isn’t that what most people want?
Sorry, Harry…RC’s way toooo cute for either Felix or Brad!!!!!! He will also no doubt be a far more well-defined character due to his history, heritage and upcoming storyline, so I should hope he will have much more to do than just hang around gossiping, scheming and interfering in other people’s lives the way those two stereotypes do. Brad and Felix deserve each other because both of them are really nasty….it took a bit longer to see it in Mr. DuBois, but his behavior with Sappy, especially since the non-wedding really showed his true self. He could have been a fun character had he been attached to Epiphany as a relative or given another role in life other than as “Princess Sparkle’s” matchmaker, but that train has left the station, and there’s no reversing the terrible impression he has left on the audience.
Mitchell, SuSuSu has issues with ahem, certain couples. Shay, you’re right. I don’t know what I was thinking. I loved Felix once upon a time but he has become a nosy little busy body and acts like Sparkle Pony’s personal assistant. I have lost all respect for Squealix.
I remember Tony on his death bed telling Lucas to be proud of who he is and not to allow anyone to make him feel ashamed of who he is because he’s perfect.
I am really starting to like Brad with Felix
LOL poor Felix has haters because he helps Sabrina and doesn’t kiss Robins azz ,,, lol ..
Haters? So tired of that overused and misused term. I have lost respect for Felix because of the way he is written. He’s a complete stereotype calling Sparkle Pony, “Girl Friend.” Moreover, he acts like her personal bitch as if he has no life of his own. No, he doesn’t kiss Robin’s butt but he sure kisses Sparkle Pony’s haunches.
Love your use of equestrian vernacular, Harry! Would love to know who began that “Sparkle Pony” business. It really does work…..
Honestly, I cannot take the credit (or the blame) for the Sparkle Pony nickname. A friend of mine used it and when I gave her credit for it, she said she saw it on a soap forum somewhere. So, who ever started Sparkle Pony, please step up and let us saddle you with glory.
And yes, Shay, it fits like, well, like a saddle.
he is perfect
He looks like William D.(Julian Jerome Sam Mcall ,Carly C.)
GH is getting better and better!
Wow. he is very cute. Ryan is 31 years old? I just googled. him, he looks way younger. Bye the way, ryan is straight. but loves playing gay roles. Good for him, i love him already. i am gay, cute adorable but i have a nice boyfriend. i am a model, partime and i do acting as well.
Good to know, Ricardo–thanks!
He left GH because he didn’t want to be typecast as gay but every time I see him he’s playing a gay man.
Technically, he’s only played one gay role (on DH), whereas in Eating Out he was heteroflexible. When he originally left the role of Lucas, it was specifically because the rumors were out about his character’s new direction and he was afraid of being typecast. That said, he was the best ex-Lucas and it will be nice to have him back.
Wow that was unexpected. Can’t wait to see Ryan again on GH! And yes, he is super sexy–and if he’s still around come summer we’re bound to see lots of shirtless scenes with him lol!
well, i said they should bring him back…maybe now Felix can have a story of his own without always sniffing up Sabrina’s arse like a heated puppy…Lucas, Felix and Brad love triangle…maybe itll make Felix a more fun, likeable character like he shouldve been in the first place!!!
Lucas will not be having anything to do with Felix and Brad, no way..
RC will give Lucas a great story and not highlight his love preference..
You could be right…but id like to see Felix in a storyline of his own away from Sabrina(but remain friends)…im still hoping he and Epiphany find out they are related
You know this how? GH needs to get with the times and showcase a realistic and gay relationship.
At the very least Lucas has historical ties. Felix and Brad are dead weight and their salaries could be used to pay for fan faves.
Great choice gh! Frank and Ron knows what makes a soap roll. They have proven themselves time and time again from their years at OLTL and now turning 50 years of GH into pure gold. Last week hitting 3.3 total viewers in 6 years. Congrats GH. I hope we are gearing up for our annual nurses ball to keep the rich history alive and growing.
Ya…going gay is just the thing to spike the ratings! Look what prominent gay storylines did for All My Children, As The World Turns, Guiding Light, One Life to Live…
Gay stories didnt get AMC.ATWT or GL cancelledi it was years of bad writing OLTL was actual in great shape dude get your facts ”straight”.
What happened to Felix’s sister??? This show has gone in the dumps!
Just because Felix’s sister isn’t on screen as much anymore? She was annoying and bratty anyway, and quite honestly, Taylor doesn’t contribute much to story at all.
Frank Valentini and Ron Carlivati have brought GH back to it’s glory days and there’s no good reason why the show is “in the dumps” right now. The stories are awesome and all of these fan-fave returns, like Ryan Carnes and Thaao Penghlis are amazing!
Lol. Ryan Carnes and Thaao Penghlis are GH fan faves? Since when?
I woulddn’t call Valentini and Carlivati GH run so far a golden age but they did do the impossible made a unwatchable badly destoryed soap watchable again. I so happy Lucas is coming back he is way too hot for Felix and Brad those two bitches wouldn’t know what to do with a man like Lucas anyway.
The return of Dr. Lucas Spencer ( as he is now known-he supposedly took his mothers name out of respect to her) will sent shock waves throughout Port Charles! Not only is he an attractive, out and proud gay man, but he is related to half the town-both biologically and by adoption- but ties the two big story lines of the last year together….the arrival of the Jerome Family and the revelation of Sam’s parentage AND the continuation of the extended Spencer clan.. Carly,Michael,Morgan, Lulu and Maxie…all half-siblings or cousins..stories could , should and will go off in interesting ways!! Is he more of a “Spencer” or does he have some “Jerome” waiting to appear? Bobbie has already said that he is a “bit of a “player” the the Seattle gay community. Still looking to the “perfect guy””…..Time will tell!! We can’t wait!!
Spot on, Seattle.
#1… first and foremost… I’m ecstatic, over the moon… that Serials are giving credence… to the LGBT community… AND, the world over… that this is REAL.
before, you and me… this has been an innate sensibility… that belongs!
Man! this is the coup… that we have been waiting… for… and… I herald… your post… this is more than likely… thee event… that RC and FV… have been waiting for.
to triumph… and I’ll grandstand and soapbox… this is all our time.
if I was still in my 20’s and 30’s… I’d have taken Felix with a grain of salt…
I accept and relish… that Brad is (definitely CUTE!) intriguing.. because.. he’s not stereotypical… and I’ll wait out this… triad… trio… if it’s written
you nailed it!
I too love that the show has done such an accurate portrayal of gays through Felix and Brad. Although I am not gay myself
I love Ryan as an actor, and hope it’s excellent to see him in the role again. Though, hope they do find someone else for him other than Felix or Brad.
Yea. Like Kiki or that cute nurse Penny!
No. Like another gay character. Not here for (implied) homophobia!
Another great return at GH and nods to story history.
Why bother? They will bring him back, and the religious NUTS will complain and he will be shipped off like all the other daytime Gays are!!!!
I know. The religious nuts and the normal people who like normal couples will complain fiercely!
Heterosexuality is not “normal”- it is merely “common”… Please do not confuse the two….
Donna…you completely misread my post. I said yes…religious people will complain, as will normal people…meaning normal heterosexual people. I in no way meant to infer thatgay is normal. I could have worded it better.
What daytime shows are you watching? Because within the past 5+ years, gay characters have been very well portrayed on daytime serials. I mean, AMC had Bianca for 10+ years.
When some people were speculating that Van Hansis would be cast as Lucas, I said it would not happen because he is too well-known in the soap world as Luke Snyder. There is no way GH would want people constantly bringing that up and fans making comparisons. Plus, who knows if Van wants to play gay again (yes, I know he is gay) on a daytime soap, he’s already doing so on his web series.
@Shay: Ummm RC too cute for Felix? I think not. Felix is a beautiful man. RC should be so lucky. ..
Felix’s attitude and behavior of late has made him VERY unattractive……
Awesome, I want to see a fight for him between Felix and Brad.
Gross! Lucas is Michael’s adoptive uncle. Brad tried to blackmail Michael into being sodomized after Michael had been raped in jail. Gee..there’s a nice intro to a potential relationship. But they’re gay so its okay.
I wish the show would tell a topical tale and make it that Lucas was just going through an experimentation phase and is now straight. It would be a much better story.
Keep wishing, “Johnny”… What will be even MORE interesting will be the supposedly “straight” characters on the show that will “come out” when presented with an honest, realistic portrayal of a gay adult! I’ve always questioned the sexuality of “Morgan ” ( Ava? REALLY?!!), Milo ( gaydar PINGS off the wall) and , well…an “easy” solution to the “Robin/Sabrina” problem for Patrick!! I guess the good people of Port Charles will just have more fun in their lives!! Bigotry in Port Chuck is SO 70’s… Ignorance is lame and juvenile and not tolerated anymore and homophobes would be laughed out of town!
I find it interesting that gay people would accept ANY straight character turning gay. But if a character who was confused, tried the gay thing, and decided it was not for them…the gay community would be up in arms. I know many people who tried, experimented, whatever…it was not their thing. They are not deluded, they are not denying themselves,or any other labels that gays attach to them. I think specifically of the character Olivia on the lamented Guiding Light. After sleeping through half the town of men, she ran out and then embarked on an affair with a woman. The gay community praised that story. Put the shoe on the other foot. If lucas came back to town sleeping with and sodomizing half the town of eligible young men…and then decided he wanted to settle down with a girl….the gay community would cry bloody murder and protest and picket and rally and boycott. Pardon the appropriate pun…gays want it both ways. Personally…I think it would be a very interesting, controversial and brave story to tell. Its certainly somehing that’s never been done in the entertainment medium before!
And another thing…why would you question the sexuality of these two characters? Neither has made any type of gay action or statement or hint. Morgan has been happily banging Ava for months, and poor gentle Milo pines away for girls who just arent that into him. But….that’s okay for you to question their sexuality…so why can’t I question Lucas’? Do you see the double standard I am getting at here? The hypocrisy?
Donna… I need you to explain each use of your quotes in that post. LMAO. You put air quotes around my name, around Morgan’s name, around the word straight, around the phrase “come out”, and around the word “easy”. You have apparent different uses and meanings for each of the quotes.
Johnny Lucas is is a gay man he is sexually attracted to men is that so hard for you to understand? Years ago as a teen he came out to his friends and family.
I think he resembles Julian. Good addition!
To clarify, I am not homophobic or prejudiced or closed minded. I sound off on ALL types of stories I don’t like. I don’t like mob stories, I don’t like violent stories, I don’t like rewritten history storylines, I don’t generally like teen stories because most soapshave no clue how to write a realistic and entertaining teen scene. There are lots of stories I don’t like. Its not me being rude. Its my opinion. That’s the great thing about opinions…we are all entitled to them. And no one’s opinion or like or dislike is any more valid or correct than anyone else’s. So if you consider me homophobic, then I consider you heterophobic. What’s the difference? Who cares really. Lol.
I think it’s great that they are bringing him back to play Lucas. When he left the show and they brought in Ben I thought “why would they bring in someone, who to me was not attractive to play the role of a gay man” I think they should bring him in as who he is gay. I’ve seen a few posts here saying to make him straight and hook him up with Kiki. Really? That’s his cousin by blood. A gay man is way way better then an incestuous one. Gross. I do think they should play the gay roles realistically. FYI Felix is being played in a realistic way. He is the quintessential girl gay man. He just needs a life of his own. I think Milo should come back bi-sexual, sure of who he is and bi. Now that is realistic as well.(and would make great GH drama) You would be surprised at the supposedly straight men/women you know who are willing to experiment, or are Bi-sexual.
@ Johnny: “sodomize”?? Really?
I think it will be interesting to see Lucas on his ex. Bro in-law Sonny side n see how Julian will take to that.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
