Shemar Moore (ex-Malcolm, The Young and the Restless) got some great news and so did longtime fans of the procedural drama S.W.A.T.  In another about face, CBS has decided to pick up the series for its 8th season.

This comes after it was previously announced that the series current 7th season would be its last, and even the 7th season was a reversal of fortune when the show has been canned after its 6th season.

Now come word from Deadline, that the 8th season of S.W.A.T. with Shemar Moore who plays Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson as its star and executive producer, will consist of 22 episodes. The current season consists of 13.

In a statement, Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment shared, “Here at CBS, we always ‘stay liquid’ and love a good dramatic twist, especially when it leads to an eighth season of S.W.A.T.!. The show continues to resonate with viewers thanks to our talented cast led by Shemar Moore and our amazing writers and producers who keep the show relevant and action-packed. We’re very pleased to renew it again and incredibly grateful to our partners at Sony, CBS Studios and Shemar for working so closely with us to bring it back for next season.”

This time, CBS is not boxing itself in saying season 8 will be S.W.A.T’s last.  As to just how this decision came to fruition for the show to carry on, it was said to based on the series’ continued ratings strength on both linear and streaming platforms. “The series is a time period winner in viewers and a top 20 primetime broadcast drama, ranking #17 overall season to date with 6.1 million in Nielsen Most Current data. With live +35-day multi-platform viewing, S.W.A.T. delivers 8.8 million viewers an episode and is up +11% year over year.”

Shemar Moore shared his reaction to the news, expressing, “S.W.A.T. IS BACK! BELIEVE IN MIRACLES! I am so proud of this show and the people and variables it has taken to make this show what it is and has become. I am so grateful to the fans around the world who have supported, watched, enjoyed and rooted for S.W.A.T.! It is entirely because of this support that S.W.A.T. will continue to shine! This is still a dream job for me … I love my S.W.A.T. crew, cast and writers and producers – we have made an incredible, fun, exciting, provocative and heartwarming show for the world to enjoy. Thank you to CBS and SONY for believing in S.W.A.T. and giving us this opportunity to shine!”

Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios, added,”Led by the unstoppable Shemar Moore, S.W.A.T. has captivated viewers since its premiere in 2017, and with every renewal, we are amazed at how passionate and dedicated the fans of this show are. Thank you to Amy Reisenbach and our partners at CBS for continuing to believe in the show and the incredible work of the cast and crew. Everyone here at Sony Pictures Television is so proud of the world that Shawn, Aaron, Andy and the entire S.W.A.T. team have created, and we congratulate them on coming back for another year. Roll SWAT!”

Previously, Moore said he would consider going back to Y&R for a bit of a longer stint, should he be free, but now with S.W.A.T. getting a full pick-up that seems unlikely.

Happy to hear S.W.A.T isn’t ending but has been renewed for its 8th season? Comment below.

YAY! S.W.A.T’s gain is Y&R’s loss

I’m actually surprised SWAT got a renewal… or that they even wanted one, considering they seem to be dropping a major cast member every week or two now. It’s a decent enough show, but if they make too many more changes it might not be recognizable.

Thank you!

“…continuing to resonate with viewers” – obviously it always resonated with viewers so why cancel in the first place (although I could say that about a few other shows). CBS don’t know what they’re doing.

But I do agree with Satan. I figured they were dropping cast members so the characters had an ending since it was the last season. I especially love Luca and his ending can’t be changed. If it becomes unrecognizable, it may start losing viewers anyway. I’ve already “lost” Luca and if Deacon leaves, I will be done.

I agree about deacon. Jay was my favand I loved street a d Luca bring them all back

Ron Carlivati Reveals When Days of our Lives Episodes From His Head Writing Regime Resume Streaming

Days of our Lives viewers have not been watching material from head writer Ron Carlivati and his writing team for many months. Well, things are about to change.

Circle this Friday, May 31st when the first new script from Carlivati and company will stream on the Peacock soap opera. If you recall, Carlivati had to step away from the writing gig at DAYS due to the writer’s strike, but because the soap tapes at least seven months ahead of air, it is only now that fans will see how the stories shift or finish out that were started by Carlivati.

According to Ron’s conversation with TV Insider, when Carlivati and his team resumed writing the show in late October of 2023, the stories were already written well into 2024. Carlivati explained, “For me, as of us talking right now, the (replacement writers’ material) is still airing, so that has been very tough. I’m just very anxious and eager for our stuff to start airing again.”

Ron explained before the writer’s strike, he and his scribes had written up through the 2023 Thanksgiving episodes. Speaking on how the replacement writers tried to handle stepping in for the regular team, Ron expressed, “I think what they tried to do was move things slowly in the hopes that the strike would end and respect where my storylines were so that I could play them off when we came back. Unfortunately, the strike dragged on, so I understand that the show needed to make story decisions.”

The award-winning writer made clear that, “from January to May (2024), those were not my stories. I had nothing to do with those.”

Having lived through a writer’s strike before (when he was at One Life to Live in 2008), Carlivati explained how he dealt with coming back and adjusting the stories including that the plan was to, “blow things up, jettison anything that I did not like, and get back to a show that I understand and can enjoy and tell. ”

Look for a Carlivati-style ‘wink-wink’ on Friday’s episode. As he puts it, “I did want to make it clear that this was the line of demarcation, that the writers were back and there was a change happening. We have a little nod or two to what was going on in the first day and I think it will be very obvious and clear to the savvy viewer. Luckily, story-wise, certain things were coming to a head already.”

Stay tuned for how Ron resolves a Sloan and Nicole showdown, how Eric will find out he is Jude’s true baby daddy, what happens when the new Gabi returns from Salem from out of the slammer, the Maggie/Konstantin wedding, payback time for Theresa and more.

In addition, and as previously reported, when Carlivati returned, he crafted the series 15,000th episode which is set to air in early December, and will also pay tribute to the late Bill Hayes with the passing of his on-screen beloved character, Doug Williams.

So, glad to know Ron and his team’s material will start to reveal itself this Friday and moving forward on DAYS? Comment below.
