Shemar Moore's Return To Y&R Day One! Malcolm and Neil Take A Trip Down Memory Lane!

Today, was the first episode of the two-day return of Shemar Moore (Malcolm) to The Young and the Restless!

And for our money, it did not disappoint. In fact, both Shemar and his longtime Genoa City co-star and on-screen brother, Kristoff St. John, (Neil) knocked their scenes out of the park!

And for any long time fan of the show, seeing these two together again and their dynamic still held weight.  However, the circumstances in the 2014 version are much different.

Malcolm has grown up and is the voice of reason, and Neil is being a little bit reckless with his life, and not coming to terms with being blind and what that might mean for his relationship with his much younger wife, Hilary (Mishael Morgan).

On day one of Moore’s Y&R return, newer viewers got a “quickie” history lesson of the brothers relationship:  how they slept with, or married, or carried on, with the same women for starters.  And how Malcolm always bolts and leaves town when his family needs him. When Malcolm tries to assure Neil he is back to see him, Neil rebuffs him.  But ultimately this visit it about Malcolm trying to be honest with where Neil is at this point in his life, whether Neil wants to hear the hard truths or not.

Watch a few key clips from today’s episode of Y&R after the jump! Then let us know, what did you think of Shemar’s return and the reunion of Neil and Malcolm?  Were you touched?  What did you think of the performances?  Comment below!

Episodes were great! It’s like Shemar never left! Both Kristoff & Shemar have great chemistry together as brothers!

loved it. the scenes were very touching. loved the flashbacks

It was good, I enjoyed it..
and ”’ viewers got a “quickie” history lesson of the brothers relationship:”

that was meaningless because their is no brothers Winters on screen, there is only Neil so don’t care much about their history… fun to watch, tho.. ..
There was other things they could have come up with because the history lessen has no point to it when there will be no on screen brothers.. (scratching head)
The old timers got a kick out of the memory trip, so that is good thing .. 🙂
I just wanted to look at Shemar Moore /Malcolm I didn’t even need a story for it to be good. ahaa!

Did you skip history class in high school…sounds like it wouldve bored you…lol…dont bother with high school reunions…the past most definately comes up in conversation…lol…and its not just the old timers who get a kick out of it…some youngsters also like it too…they like to see, hear and read about the great moments they missed out on…it somewhat gives many of them the feeling they’ve gotten to be part of it too…thats a good thing…i was like that when i first started watching soaps at age four and i still do…something new you learn every day even if its from 100 years ago…its entertaining and fun!!!

You are absolutely right, jimh! I love when I catch snippets of DAYS gone by…be it from before I started watching or my early years of watching, which is why I’m looking forward to the 50th!!!!!

Okay, Miss SU000, allow me to summarize your statement. You do not care for a character’s history with a sibling even when that history helps mold who that character is today? You don’t care to watch two siblings who have had a lot of conflict in their past relationship, resolve their differences and embrace each other with brotherly love.
But you do like to gaze upon Shemar’s beauty? So, you don’t care for content, only the exterior? This explains the devotion and blind love you have for GH.

Thank god its a short trip down memory lane! Take Neil, Tyler, Leslie, Lilly, Devon, and Devon’s girlfriend/Neil’s wife with you Shemar!

Timmm…y-e-s. ESPECIALLY that loony-filled Lily!!!!! B-L-A-H!!!!!

Yes!
Shemar, please take Neil, Tyler, Leslie, Lilly, Devon with you!
Really, those 5 are horribly dull dull dull ..(they serve no purpose)
Devon doesn’t do much of anything, he is just there.
Leslie doesn’t do much of anything, she is just there.
Tyler doesn’t do much of anything, he is just there.
Neil doesn’t do much of anything, he is stumbling around being nothing interesting.
Lilly dose annoying, very well ..

but– some like the 5 ..
and they would chase Shemar down the street to get the 5 back..
so- they have to stay for the ones who like them to make them happy ..

Does anyone like Lily? I don’t even think Cane likes her much

Yep take all the African American characters and get them off the screen. If that were to happen, there would be so much outrage in the daytime community. YR is the ONLY soap that actually has an African American family unit. I mean because this show DEFINITELY needs more of Victor doing his Wash, Rinse, Repeat SL’s of doing something, everyone gets upset, no one speaks to him, he is forgiven a few months later. A fortune 500 business man who should be making Power moves, is running around dealing with an Amnesia patient. Victor Newman used to be Boss, and sometimes dearly paid for his actions, now he has been reduced to repeating 4x a year, I AM VICTOR NEWMAN. Yet he has done nothing to put the fear in god in folks like he used to. Or Nikki ringing her hands or hitting the bottle part ITS BEEN DONE TO DEATH. So clearly they are not the only ones that are making this show suffer. If anything the Winters family unit is the only thing making me even tune in right now. Except Lily, I’ve ALWAYS hated Lily #1. Why cant she please go chase her primetime dreams or something & take her Self Righteous (I lied for the first 2 years I was in GC) with her.

Travis, the post was about Malcolm who is a member of the Winters family who happens to be black and they happen to be boring. I’ll throw Cane in there if it makes you happy. He sucks too and its not because he is Australian! His stories suck! He was only interesting when he was with Billy and Chloe. Yes, I would take Victor and his washing machine cycle because he is a legend, a good actor, but most importantly, he has connections with a lot of interesting characters whose strings he is pulling. Nikki, yes she fell off the wagon again BUT a lot of alcoholics do and he drinking is tied in to Ian pushing her over the edge. Come on Travis, make the Winters family interesting and I promise you I won’t use my FF button, you know, the one I use when “Billy” is on!

See I guess that’s where we differ when it comes to Daytime Drama. I’m a firm believer that everyone doesnt need to be connected to everyone to make a good Soap. Good writing makes a good soap. One of the things that many people always say about Soaps is “Oh they just repeat the same things over and over”, which I firmly believe. Agnes Nixon, Bill Bell, & Claire Labine created Storylines, they didnt just repeat something over and over. New characters are needed in order to give Veteran characters someone to interact with. At some point many of the characters that you wanna see, were new characters. I mean my grandmother still never got over the Brooks and Fosters being written out. But she eventually adapted.

Bill Bell kept innovating his shows all the time. When he wrote for Days, he wrote in and out so many different families, while always keeping the Horton family as the centerpiece. Bill Bell always brought in new characters, and they were not always connected to someone. But he always had a game plan. Which I think is the other problem with many soaps. They just plot this stuff as they go along with no long term plan, which is really the true issue.

I love EB, but seriously watching him do the same thing Ad Nauseam is tiring and frankly boring. The Nikki AA thing I totally understand, but it wasnt organic so it doesnt resonate with me. None of the beats were played out. When BB wrote this show, characters grew and learned. I watched 2 years in a row during Xmas where Victor learned something, only to have him repeat the same SL the following year. If u find that entertaining then great, but it just makes me tune out because I wanna see EB get back to pushing Story, not always being 2nd fiddle to everyone else’s Story. This man is crazy talented, and all he’s done for the past 10 years is be a busy body in other SL’s. The Victor Newman character is better than that.

And as u FF through the Winters, for me, they are right now the only thing keeping me even watching this trainwreck. But again, thats the great thing about Soaps. Everyone is gonna have a different opinion and love different characters. I’ve never found the Winters boring. I mean if we wrote off every character on a soap that someone found boring, then we wouldnt have a cast. U will take the machine cycle of Victor Newman, while I’ll take the Winters who to me are right now telling an actual SL with the Hillary, Neil, Devon situation.

I respect your opinion. Wouldnt you miss the “Mustache” if he retired? Your right, could you imagine Donald Trump running around NY trying to manipulate a doctor into treating his son’s ex to get info on his son’s future wife to be AGAIN? Who is running Newman Enterprise? PLUS, if Donald Trump handed over a half a billion dollars to each of his kids he would NEVER talk to them again so I give credit to Victor when he says he is doing what he does for his family. He must really love them.

LOL. I think I just want YR returned to having interesting, complex, layered Ensemble Storytelling. People were actually friends, people interacted, every family had their own SL’s but yet had time to work, go to great parties, lie, cheat, and scheme. This show had some of the most interesting Storytelling that had me hooked as a kid.

EB is so much better than the crap he is given. He hasnt had a proper SL in so long. Right now at this moment I miss Victor “The Great” Newman. This current version for the past few years is so annoying. Of course I would miss EB, just not what they’ve done to this character. I want EB driving Story like he did. Victor did so much more than just manipulate people. I mean for half the 90’s he wasnt even with Nikki and this man had SL’s of his own. Its like they cant write anything for him unless he’s meddling in someone else’s business. And I guess because it’s been every year, its just so tiresome now. So many blogs joke…Victor plots for 3 months, It blows up in his face for a few months, no one speaks to him for a few months, a crisis happens, and they make up cause of said crisis. Thats been EB’s SL for almost 10 years. Im like with all the history he has, cant they do something better. What do we have to do to get this show back on track. Both of Bill Bell’s shows are just terrible right now. I hate what’s happening.

And this show hasnt told a proper Business SL since the whole Glow By Jabot fiasco and the tainted cream. But that was Jack Smith and Kay Alden. How I wish 4 their return.

Its the same with GH, no one has any friends on that show. Thats why I enjoyed the Thursday Night Football plug with Avery and Dylan. It at least connected them with the real world for a moment. EB needs a side kick. Someone like Douglas to be by his side or have a young gun that he hires at Newman walk in Victor’s footsteps and then turn on him and make Victor fight for something other than his FAMILY! Yes, EB needs a story line.

Wow thats a blast from the past. I MISS DOUGLAS. Victor has no friends whatsoever, now that u mention Douglas. How sad. They even got rid of my damn Miguel. He is so isolated from the rest of the show and cast. He never interacts with anyone not named Newman. Those Neil flashbacks made me remember that Newman Enterprise used to be more than just Victor’s office. Vikki had a office, Neil had a office, Nick had a office. This show is just….SIGH. I guess I need to let go of those memories cause it seems like thats all they will ever be.

The show seems to really be marketing and plugging Shemar’s brief return. I think that is great to see. I haven’t watched in years (since summer vacations many years ago); but, I do watch from time to time when home. They do have some great actors-Peter Bergman (I remember him as Cliff from AMC), the returning Eileen Davidson (love her as Kristen on DAYS), and I’ve always loved the character of Nikki.

The Winters family saga suffers from the absence of Shemar Morre and Victoria Rowell in the roles as Malcolm and Dru. It is almost impossible to recast such strong personalities. (It failed once on Malcolm.) But… the characters are key to keeping Neil interesting and viable.

Any way to keep Shemar Moore? I fear Victoria Rowell will never be back.

I hope this reunion means no more plots about sharing the same woman between them. Neil is now doing that with his adopted son. *sigh*

Really?

It was so great to see Shemar Moore back on Y&R. I wish is was permanent because Malcolm is an important character in the Winters family, and Y&R needs great actors like SM on the show after losing much of their top talent in the past year.

He and Kristoff St.John have such a great dynamic as brothers and they are both phenomenal actors. It was great seeing them rehash history, and it was great to see Malcolm there for his brother.

And, even if it is for a short, 2-day visit, I’m glad they were able to bring SM back to play the role because IMO Darius McCrary was wildly miscast in the role back in 2009.

I liked the first day– the clips and interaction between the brothers; the second day I found Malcolm was being portrayed like a super hero who swoops in to save the day. His parting speech about wishing he could be around all the time to fix everyone’s problems, was just silly. Malcolm’s character was never that mature let alone the wise sage of the Winter’s family, so for me it sounded false. I half expected him to ride off into the sunset on a horse, waving his white hat with twinkle in his eye, or the Pope to come along and dubbed him St. Malcolm. So it started off good, but this gal it ended on a cheesy note.

Totally agree.

Yes, but Mary, in my experience it’s always the grown child who lives far away from the family core who is always the perfect hero.
Mom always loves the child who isn’t there the most.

It was on the money, I enjoyed the 2 days performances. He should visit every Summer.

To me, it was so negative – all he did was imply that Neil would never recover
his sight, rather than enpower him to believe it definitely could happen. Ugh.
Who needs that type of energy around them in such a situation? No one
needs to tell Neil he may stay blind. He knows that deep down, He needs
positive people by his side. Like Jack had…and did he walk again? Yup.
Anyway, I thought the whole thing with Malcolm back was dreary and cheesy.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
