RATINGS: ‘Beyond the Gates’ Inches Closer to ‘General Hospital’ for the #3 Spot in Total Viewers
The ratings are out for the week of September 7-11, 2026 and while all of the long-running daytime dramas were down in total viewers week-over-week, it was the newest soap opera on the block, Beyond the Gates, that showed gains and much promise. Let’s take a look.
According to Soap Opera Network, not only did Beyond the Gates add +12,000 tuning-in for the week, it is narrowing the gap between itself and current #3 soap, General Hospital in total viewers, and tied with the venerable ABC series for actual household ratings share.
Beyond the Gates averaged 1,689,000 for its audience for the week while General Hospital had 1,769,000, that’s just an 80,000 difference that separates the two shows. While Beyond the Gates had a year-over-year increase for the ratings week, GH showed the biggest loss of all the soaps year-over-year with -231,000 and the biggest loss in viewers week-over-week with -142,000.

BEYOND THE GATES
In addition, Beyond the Gates once again bested GH in the key 18-49 women’s rating share and also for the week, the women’s 25-54 ratings share, now putting them firmly in the third place. It should be noted that both Beyond the Gates and General Hospital aired an encore presentation on Labor Day, September 7.
Here’s what had viewers tuning-in on Beyond the Gates: Hayley (Marquita Goings) faced mounting pressure as Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) grew suspicious of her lies and a major secret came to light. Andre Richardson (Sean Freeman) went through a paranoid spiral noticed by Dani (Karla Mosley), while Heather Armstrong’s (Ashley Jones) behavior became increasingly unhinged, Deanna (Angela Fairley) reached a breaking point under mounting pressure and decided to return to school and Smitty (Mike Manning) was digging deeper into the death of Lia Whitmore.

GENERAL HOSPITAL
On General Hospital, the week in story was highlighted by: Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) admitting she was the other driver in Jordan Ashford’s (Tanisha Harper) accident, leaving Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) furious and demanding answers and ultimately Chase (Josh Swickard) walking out on Brook Lynn!
In addition, viewers witnessed, Anna (Finola Hughes) nearly killing Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud), but instead firing a shot at a hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) as Jason (Steve Burton) tried to talk Anna down. Meanwhile, Drew (Cameron Mathison) and Ava (Maura West) dealt with the fallout and complications surrounding the disappearance of Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna).

THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL
Over at B&B, the soap remained in second place behind sister soap, The Young and the Restless for the top spot in total viewers; although it should be noted they continued to close the gap for the race to #1. For the ratings period, The Bold and the Beautiful average 2,695,000 tuning-in, but was down week-over-week -83,000, but with the biggest soap gains year-over-year at this time with +228,000.
In other good news for the show, it came in at #1 for the key women’s 18-49 rating share defeating Y&R, and came in #2 for the women’s 25-54 rating share behind Y&R.
In story for the ratings week: Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) goes into panic-mode after a positive pregnancy and breaks the news to Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor). Katie (Heather Tom) tries to meddle in Will’s (Crew Morrow) love life with Dylan (Sydney Bullock), thus having Katie visit Electra (Laneya Grace) and telling the young woman to try to win Will back. Finn (Tanner Novlan) tries to give surrogacy advice to Carter and Daphne (Murielle Hilaire) unaware of his wife Steffy’s drunken night with Carter, and the true cause-effect of that moment.

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS
Once again, Y&R remained as the number one most-viewed broadcast television daytime drama of then all, clocking in with 3,059,000 tuning-in, but down -130,000 week-over-week, but still up + 159,000 year-over-year. Y&R also remained in the top spot for household ratings share and atop the key women’s 25-54 rating share.
In story for the week: Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk) escaped custody and tracked down Matt Clark (Roger Howarth). Meanwhile, Kyle (Michael Mealor) and Victoria (Amelia Heinle) continue their affair and are almost caught by Phyllis (Michelle Stafford). Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) and Marie (Jade Harlow) shared a heartfelt goodbye before she leaves town to continue her recovery. Jack (Peter Bergman) sets a trap for Patty as he collapses at Society.
Of note: Nielsen ratings are based on the Live+Same Day Big Data+Panel model.

YES! YES! YES! This is what I am talking about! Beyond the Gates absolutely deserves to surpass General Hospital in total viewers. Without a question. And I hope it does.
I watched a episode sitting at the nail salon getting a pedicure all I can say is Ashley Jones looks fabulous Karla Mosley also loved seeing Jon Lindstrom actually acting again great sets makeup actually it should be #1 with fresh ideas! Great thing to top it off they are being paid in Georgia so lower taxes. Whoopee!!!
Good for Beyond the Gates!!! General Hospital is boring and cast is unfavorable .
GH is so boring I stopped watching.
I wish GH would get its act together. Stories are all over the place and make no sense. I am totally happy for BTG!
I cant wait for Bold and Beautiful to surpass sister soap Young and Restless at #1 it is so good right now.
GH’s plunging ratings are the result of abysmal, unsatisfying stories such as “the other driver,” Drew waking up from his paralytic state without a redemption arch and acting even worse than he did before, Anna being haunted by Peter, Trina’s singing career, Sonny and DA’ Turner’s forced romantic coupling and so much more. The actors gave it their all and managed to rise above the poor writing afforded to them. And now I hear Heather and her BLT are coming back which will only make things more listless and dull.
Bravo to BTG. This past week has been superb, but I also like the slower weeks. The acting is always top notch. I want to recognize the costuming and direction. Loved Leslie’s zebra print and Hayley’s leather when she went to see “hubby” in his hospital room. The direction of the police station scenes were stellar. They have an excellent crew. So pleased that BTG has come into our lives.
My question is who’s still watching Y&R? So very boring. I only watch when Traci, Ashley, and Lauren are on, which is rare. Not interested in the Newmans at all.
Oh wow! I have watched them for over 40 years and still enjoy the show. I do admit some plots are boring especially ones with Traci, Lauren and Ashley!

GH would do better if it had a better lead-in. GMA3 is one of the lowest shows in daytime, while BTG gets to follow B&B. I wish ABC would be more creative in the 1pm hour, but with finances the way they are, they’ll probably stick with the very inexpensive GMA3. I see Peacock has been listing their top 20 shows, and DOOL can’t even break into that, losing to reruns of The Office.
BTG is good, GH is not. It has nothing to do with lea-ins. People make time to watch what is worth watching
That’s highly, highly subjective. If you’re a true soap fan, you support ALL soaps, not just your favorite while talking trash about the rest whether you watch them or not.
Michael Fairman is always pointing out the long tape to air schedule Days has, and has even stated it’s hard to pivot when a storyline isn’t working…
Beyond the Gates, which has a 5 month tape to air schedule is slaughtering General Hospital, which has a very short tape to air schedule, in the demos.
Face it, the tape to air schedules mean nothing because people want different things. If a group of fans complained about something, a show with a short tape to air schedule could make a quick change, but then other groups of people would be upset with the change in storyline direction.
What is wrong with GH if a short tape to air schedule isn’t helping it? And how low will those demos go before it is cancelled? Mickey is waiting in the wings.
After this week ratings GH should really make some changes and pivot away from the boring storylines and horrible character changes that frustrate fans. Their is no one to root for on that show and none of the storylines are exciting. It’s so bad and I’m not surprised if BTG surpass them for the number 3 spot.
BTG has already surpassed GH in the all important moneymaking demos.

Y’all need to understand this: The Nielsen Ratings Company includes two-year olds in its “Total Viewers,” and advertisers don’t give a flying f*** about total viewers, especially two-year olds, and the bedridden elderly people who are also included in total viewers!
General Hospital is doing piss poor! BTG is miles above GH in the demos that make money.
Do your effing research!
Anything on CBS will do good because TPIR is a ratings juggernaut. If not for TPIR, CBS daytime would be a failure. YawneR is horse sh*t kept alive by its lead-in.
I love BTG. I fast forward lots of Y &R as the stories are not entertainment.

Next week on the Friday, November 13 episode of Beyond the Gates, Yvette Nicole Brown and her real life husband Anthony Davis guest star. In story, Brown takes on the role of Temeka the cousin to Shanice (Ernestine Johnson Morrison).
When Temeka comes to Fairmont Crest she will be accompanied by her husband, Tony, played by real-life hubby Anthony Davis. The castings come as the soap opera continues to expand the family of Shanice. Previously, we met her brothers, Cedric and Lamont.
As Shanice gets ready to head down the aisle with Dr. Ted Richardson (Keith D. Robinson) will the presence of Shanice’s family members actually deter the nuptials from ever taking place?

This now makes the third daytime drama appearance by Yvette Nicole Brown. She first popped up on The Young and the Restless in 2016 and 2017 as reporter Lois Thompson.
Then in 2023, she played a nurse on General Hospital when she appeared in the March 29, 2023 episode honoring her real-life friend, Sonya Eddy who past away in real-life in December of 2022, The soap honored her in death when her character, Epiphany died.

Brown and Eddy first met in 2003 while testing for an ABC pilot titled “The Four Divas” alongside Octavia Spencer and Carla Renata and became very close friends up until Eddy’s passing.
It was actually Brown’s character, who came forth to Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) and shared that Epiphany died saving her life which gave some sort of solace to Elizabeth; knowing Epiphany died doing what she loved, helping people.
As for Anthony Davis, not only is he an actor, but a writer and minister known for TV and film roles including: He Wasn’t Man Enough (2025), The Family Business: New Orleans, and The Upshaws.
Brown is also recognized from her roles on: Community, The Odd Couple, The Mayor, That ’70s Show, The Office, Boston Legal, Chuck, Mom, Big Shot to name but a few.

Y&R’s Bryton James and Christel Khalil Crossover to ‘Beyond the Gates’ (Sneak Peek)
CBS and Beyond the Gates have released some teaser photos and video preview for tomorrow’s Wednesday, November 4 appearance of The Young and the Restless’ Bryton James and Christel Khalil as Devon and Lily Winters visit Fairmont Crest.
In the special episode, Anita Dupree (newly crowned Lead Actress Daytime Emmy Award winner Tamara Tunie) and The Articulettes return to the studio to record an EP, with Devon’s help.
On Devon’s trip to the DMV area, he is accompanied by his sister Lily, who turns out to be a longtime fan of the singing group. The episode marks the third appearance by James and the first by Khalil on Beyond the Gates.

In story, as the Articulettes record their new tracks, Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) is there too, who’s mother Barbara Mitchell was the original Articulette and tragically ended her own life over feeling shoved out of the group.
Bonita Brisker and Marcia Howell return for the episodes as Sharon and Tracy and perform song along with the Tamara Tunie as the Anita the lead singer of the fictional famous singing trio.

BEYOND THE GATES MAKING HISTORY
Beyond the Gates picked up its first four Daytime Emmy Awards in its history, last Friday night, October 30 at the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards.
The series took home the gold for the aforementioned Lead Actress category by Tamara Tunie, plus Outstanding Emerging Talent in a Daytime Drama Series: Ambyr Michelle (Eva Thomas), Outstanding Hairstyling and Makeup for a Daytime Program, where the hair and makeup team tied with The Kelly Clarkson Show, and for Lighting Direction for a Daytime Program.
Created by head writer Michele Val Jean, and executive producerd by Val Jean, Sheila Ducksworth, Julie Carruthers, Tracey Thomson, Leon W. Russell, Derrick Johnson, Anna Saalfeld and Lela Coffey, the series airs weekdays on CBS (2:00-3:00 PM, ET/1:00-2:00 PM, PT) and streams on Paramount+.

The 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards red carpet arrivals featured many a leading man from your favorite soaps, plus the younger stars and veteran actors you’ve come to love.
The gents were definitely about the bowties this year, plus fashion-forward trends, classic suit and tux looks, or sport jacket and no tie. There were a myriad of fashion choices on display from the one thing the soaps are usually known for, ‘hot’ guys.
This year for the first time the red carpet featured the cast of Beyond the Gates who were eligible for Daytime Emmy competition for the first time in their young history, bringing fresh faces and new vibes to the festivities.
LEADING MEN, VETERAN STARS AND NEWCOMERS STRIKE A POSE
Many of this year’s nominees who went on to become eventual winners, previous Emmy winners, and more, took to the carpet to strike a pose for the paparazzi in attendance.
Some of the standout looks came from (pictured above): Steve Burton (Jason Morgan, General Hospital) in traditional black tux with a sheen, Lawrence Saint-Victor (Carter Walton, The Bold and the Beautiful), Giovanni Mazza (Gio Palmieri), Jibre Hordges (Jacob Hawthorne, Beyond the Gates) and Michael Graziadei (Daniel Romalotti, The Young and the Restless), all wearing tuxes, suits or sportcoat and trousers with a bowtie, plus now two-time Daytime Emmy winner, Roger Howarth (Matt Clark, The Young and the Restless) who gave us that stellar jacket and more relaxed vibe for the carpet.
