In a fantastic piece from the New York Times out today, the feature takes a look at several of your beloved favortie’s from As the World Turns and  where they are now that the 54-year-old soap drew it’s last breath this past September.  Profiled here are: Jake Silbermann on his new film project, Stuffer, Michael Park on his current theatrical productions, and cast members going from making considerable higher dollar amounts on the soap to less for theatre, Terri Colombino who moved to One Life to Live and was one of the only soapers to stay in New York from the show with a new daytime gig.

Then, the piece takes a look at new group of transplanted Oakdalians in L.A. from Maura West, Jon and Kelly Menighan Hensley, Daniel Cosgrove, who now will appear on All My Children, and Van Hansis.  They all either moved to Sunny Southern California or are looking for work in Hollywood.   According to the NY Times, Hansis stated, “I just kind of felt like if you want to get work, go where the work is,”  He hired a West Coast agent to focus on prime-time auditions. “That being said, if a soap contract were offered to me, I might have a completely different story. It’s a great job.”

And what of Eileen Fulton, Trent Dawson, and Colleen Zenk? Well, this talented trio are profiled as well, as they continue with theatre and cabaret and look for their next big projects.

Van Hansis has to be seen on TV and on the gif screen!

I am missing Van Hansis. I want to watch his amazing acting as soon as possible. This article should have focused on Van more.

missing both Jake and Van.

Jake Silberman was amazing and amazingly underutilized by the writers and directors of World Turns. Here’s to success for Jake in the future. Wish he’d come to THE BAY.

i really don’t like silbermann’s acting. He’s too stiff. This article only talks about silbermann’s physic and doesn’t seem to care about his acting because there is nothing to say about it.

on the other hand, I totally miss hansis’ acting: he is the best actor.

and please michael, don’t use this photo anymore: i hate how silbermann stands and hides half of hansis’ body. that’s an horrible photo!

i hope grayson mccouch and julie pinson end up on the same soap again they have future supercouple written all over them in every scene as dusty and janet on atwt

I can’t wait to see what Van does. I hope he gets a prime time role or a great part in a movie. I can’t wait for Occupant to come out & also Eric Sheffer Stevens new movie Lefty Loosey, Righty Tighty. the trailers for both of these are great.
https://occupantmovie.com/play.html for Van’s movie
https://vimeo.com/16303327 for ESS’s new movie

I agree.I’m really missing them so much. Both trailers are great!i hope they both do well!

Great New York Times article. Jake Silbermann is going to go far in this industry.

Love that the first paragraphs and so much of the rest of this article focused on Jake Silbermann. Congratulations to him for winning an award for his first short film! He’s a wonderful actor and a truly class act. Nice to see good things happening for him. I wish him and everyone from the show well, but I’m sorry to see that ESS fans still feel the need to tear Jake down. Doubt he’d appreciate such hostility on his behalf.

This.

I was lucky enough to go the private fan screening of STUFFER this weekend and Jake was fantastic. The movie was amazing, and left us wanting so much more. It definitely showed to me how the show misused and underused Jake. His meaty role was flawless and the lot of us were incredibly creeped and amazed by his performance.

I am also looking forward to Occupant and LLRT.

Because I, unlike the Jake haters, love all three. 🙂

Not all LuRe fans are like that, most like Jake but preferred Luke with Reid. You know in any group there are those who are mean and say things without thinking I’m a LuRe fan and would never be so childish as to criticize Jake ..

Also meant to say I’m sure it was an oversight on your part that you neglected to post the correct link to the article which begins with Jake Silbermann and his film. You know, since you’ve always been so supportive of him…

https://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/07/arts/television/07soap.html

And great photos of Jake in the slide show! The reporter knows what he’s talking about. Handsome man indeed.

@young: Is there anything some people won’t criticize Jake S for? Do you honestly think that he directed that photo shoot, or forced Van to stand behind him? Seriously, some people need to get over the ridiculous grudge they have against him. Jake was an actor doing his job, just like ESS, and he’s not the reason Reid was killed. I wasn’t a Reid fan, not even close, but I don’t have anything against ESS; why would I? And I don’t get my jollies by trashing him all over the internet. It’s truly sad that even now some people just can’t let go of their bitterness and anger. I don’t know why I’m even bothering; I doubt this or any of my comments supporting Jake will even get published since bashing him has pretty much been encouraged and enabled here.

I was a LURE fan, but I would never criticize Jake or blame him for Reids’ death. He is a nice man and while i preferred the chemistry of Luke and Reid , I wish him well too. Most Lure fans don’t have anything against Jake .We’re just so devastated with the disgusting ending of this wonderful soap. There was anger on both sides while all I feel is sadness and my last memories of “my” soap are such unhappy ones!

I hope Van Hansis gets great acting jobs.Watching him on the screen is wonderful. His face is gorgeous and he always could say so much with his eyes.He has so many different looks , so many hairstyles.I miss him and love him .He deserves the best.I hope he comes back to NYC too and has some fan meets.I live in N.J. and I keep hoping to meet this sweetheart one day.Actually I wish all my beloved ATWT actors well. And Eric S. Stevens deserves a great acting job too.If i don’t see Van and Eric on the screen soon i think i’m going to stay in this down in the dumps feeling! …Michael, where can we write to these actors …if anyone would know it should be you!Any help would be appreciated!

I agree with young. This photo is horrible. and the interviewer of the NY times article was so not doing his job by talking more about jake’s looks than about his work. What kind of interviewer tell in their papers this kind of things? That’s totally obvious that the interviewer didn’t know that Jake isn’t that popular actor he thinks he is. That’s a bullshit article. I’m not a jake hater, I’m more of indifferent towards him (no actor skills in his work, I think), but I laught when I read it.

I miss hansis’ lovely face everyday or well…once a week or so….I hope he makes it anywhere he’d like but if he went to another soap I’d no doubt watch.

Silbermann’s acting on the show was great, because due to his upbringing, the character of Noah often struggled in showing emotion, and JS played that beautifully. I know subtle doesn’t get the accolades in the soap world that the showier roles (such as those played brilliantly by VH and ESS) does, but such a role is easily the most difficult to play. JS did an incredible job, but perhaps some need to see him in other roles to appreciate the restraint he utilized as Noah.

If STUFFER has a screening near you, see it. You’ll walk away saying, “I didn’t know he had all THAT.” And with that screenplay, it turns out the kid can write, too. There’s a very bright future ahead for him.

I believe the same is true for Hansis and Sheffer Stevens. Each of them is a truly gifted artist, and smart casting directors will snap them up for projects quickly. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for them.

I would love to see a screening if i’m able.Jake seems to be a nice guy and very talented.i wish all of these wonderful actors well.I’m such a Van Hansis fan and i adore Eric too.I want to see them in anything at all.I live in N.J. and hope they’ll have some fan events in nyc so I can go.Van moved to California , but I hope he comes back.i really feel a giant void without being able to see these guys every day!(I do watch the clips on You Tube every day to keep my sanity!)I now know most scenes word for word, especially the ones with “Reid and Luke!!!’

IT’S A DISGRACE TO END THE BEST SOAP ON TV. I USED TO WATCH IT WITH MY MOM AFTER GRAMMER SCHOOL, MANY, MANY YEARS AGO! SO GLAD TO SEE TERRI NOW WHICH BRINGS ME TO WAtCH ANOTHER SOAP.

I truly miss Jon and Kelly Menighan Hensley, wil we ever see them again? What have they been doing since leaving ATWT?

Saul Consuelos, the father of All My Children alum and Live with Kelly and Mark co-host, Mark Consuelos (ex0-Mateo, AMC), has died. During an emotional moment on this mornings, April 6 edition of the syndicated talk show, Mark shared, that his dad, “passed away peacefully” back on March 23 following a long illness.

His wife and co-host, Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, AMC) paid tribute to her her father-in-law expressing, he was, “the greatest person I’ve ever known. I can honestly say I will miss him every day for the rest of my life, as I know you will, as our children will. He really is so symbolic of everything you are.”

Kelly and Mark’s children, Joaquin, Michael and Lola Consuelos are said to be taking this extremely hard. Ripa added, “This is the first loss they’ve ever experienced in their lives. And I said, ‘By the time I was 8, I had no grandparents. You got to grow up (with grandparents). You got to have deep, meaningful conversations (with them).”

In another moment, Mark reflected on his dad. “It’s funny, I used to make a joke about my dad … if you asked him what time it was, he would tell you how to build a watch. There were a lot of lectures, a lot of lectures and I learned so much. If he was fixing something in the house, he’d make me watch and do it. And I didn’t know at the time why he was doing that. But now at the house, I’m able to do at least half of the stuff that he did. I learned the most by just watching him.”

Mark added that Saul Consuelos came to the U.S. from Mexico in his early teens and served our county for decades, detailing, he “Ended up at Special Operations Command in Tampa. This young kid from Mexico just got his education from the navy. Was always going to school. Was brilliant. Got his Masters while I was a kid.  He loved his country so much, If you’re going to put a face to an immigrant, he would be the prime example of what this country promises people.”

In a very heart-tugging moment, Consuelos shared that now its important they be there for his mother, Camilla. “We gotta take care of mom. We’re trying to convince my mom to move to New York. She’s such a character, she’s stubborn. What do you think, a cooking segment here on Fridays with Camilla?”

Now below, watch the very touching and emotional moments as Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa mourn the loss of Saul Consuelos.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Visits ‘The View’ Where Hosts Sidestep Controversial ‘Buffy’ Reboot Axing, But Talk ‘All My Children’

Published

On yesterday’s March 17 episode of The View, All My Children alum, Sarah Michelle Gellar (ex-Kendall Hart), was the special guest. Since Monday, Gellar has been the subject of a hot-button issue since about the surprising turn of events that the highly-anticipated Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, in which she stars, and which was directed in the pilot by Oscar-winning director, Chloé Zhao, was no longer moving forward.

Gellar‘s appearance on the ABC morning talk show was devoid of any mention of Hulu cancelling its planned Buffy: New Sunnydale, in which Sarah was set to appear along with Ryan Kiera Armstrong. However, Gellar did discuss her new movie Ready or Not 2: Here I Come from Searchlight Pictures.

It should be noted that both Hulu and Searchlight Pictures are owned by The Walt Disney Company, while The View is produced by ABC News, which is also owned by The Walt Disney Company.

During the awkward interview, when it became clear the ‘Buffy’ reboot topic was off the table, The View co-host Sunny Hostin, talked about the “intense fight scenes” that have become a staple of her TV and film career starting with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Scream 2, and I Know What You Did Last Summer.

The ladies of The View also brought up Sarah’s beginnings on All My Children as Kendall Hart (1993-1995), showing a scene with her and her on-screen mother, the iconic Erica Kane, played by Susan Lucci. The discussion sprung out of another All My Children alum, Michael B. Jordan (ex-Reggie Montgomery) winning the Oscar this past Sunday for Best Actor for his role in Sinners. The View’s Joy Behar was quick to point out with Gellar, the All My Children alums that have gone on to great fame.

Photo: ABC

Previously on Monday, Gellar opened up to PEOPLE about being blindsided before while at the SXSW Film & TV Festival premiere for Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. “I got the call as we were stepping onto stage for the premiere of their own movie. And it’s also the weekend of Chloé going to the Oscars as a best director nominee for Hamnet. For them to call us on the Friday of what should have been Chloé’s victory lap for an incredible film, and my world premiere of something that I worked very hard for is… that says something.”

She went to say, “We had an executive on our show who was not only not a fan of the original, but was proud to constantly remind us that he had never seen the entirety of the series and how it wasn’t for him.” Deadline reports that “multiple sources” identified the executive as Disney Television Group President Craig Erwich.

“I loved the duality that we had with this new, younger slayer who was where Buffy was when the show started, and then we would pick up with where Buffy was now,” Gellar told People about the setup.  However, according also to Deadline “After the pilot was completed and delivered, according to multiple sources, Hulu’s main note was that it played too young, with some indicating that the streamer also felt the show was too “small.”’

In the rewrite, sources also told the outlet that the writers did not take big enough swings, so they set out to do a rewrite it again. The last revision was more adult, featuring a lot more of Gellar’s Buffy, and was described as a more of a streaming show than a network one. When all is said and done there is hope that another Buffy IP will be up and running within the next couple of years.

You can check out Sarah Michelle Gellar’s full segment on The View below. Now let us know, bummed there is no Buffy reboot? What do you think about how this high profile Hollywood saga was side-stepped on the morning show? Did you love Sarah as the original Kendall Hart on All My Children?
