SOAPnet Signs Off After More Than 13 Years Of Soap Programming At Midnight Tonight!

The day is unfortunately here soap fans!  After over 13 years of bringing you same day and date rebroadcasts of your favorite soap operas, and other soap opera related acquisition programming, Disney/ABC’s cable channel SOAPnet is airing its final sudsy episodes tonight! (some cable outlets have already dropped the channel).  In its final leg of its run, only General Hospital and Days of our Lives remained in the line-up as The Young and the Restless defected to TVGN, and is now joined by The Bold and the Beautiful.  And as so many of the soaps were canceled along the way, the network was still airing old episodes of ABC’s All My Children right till the end.

On-Air On-Soaps Michael Fairman wanted to share this: “When I was executive producer for Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment’s SoapCity.com, we were in preliminary stages and talks, because of the success of the online platform, to also develop a cable channel of the same name.  But, the very bright team at Disney/ABC also had the idea to create SOAPnet, since they had several soap properties to begin their network with.  Eventually, SOAPnet came to pass and it was an exciting time in soap history!  I was very fortunate throughout the 13-plus-years of its run to work on one of their original series, Soap Center, as a field and segment producer.  I also had the opportunity to have produced On-Air Promos for the network honoring its fifth year anniversary and some other special projects.   I always felt there should be a network celebrating the soap genre, and SOAPnet was that at its inception and for many years thereafter.  It will be missed.”

SOAPnet posted this on its official website today:  “Thank you to all of the devoted SOAPnet fans for over 13 years of soapy drama! SOAPnet will go off the air on December 31, 2013 at midnight ET|PT.  For more ways to watch General Hospital, catch new episodes weekdays on ABC 2e|1c|p and on demand.  You can also watch with WATCH ABC  –– anytime, anywhere on your smartphone, tablet, or computer.”

So, are you ready to say goodbye to SOAPnet?  What were you favorite shows to watch during its run?  Let us know!

I lost Soapnet weeks ago…i liked when they aired repeats of Ryans Hope and i liked Night Shift…also liked that if i missed gh or days during the day i could catch up at night…Soapnet needed more original programming…it also shouldve had their own made for cable movies like Lifetime but featured mostly past and present soap actors! Maybe they shouldve renamed it DramaTV to encourage more viewers … My cable co. completely removed the channel from the lineup and didnt replace it with disneys kiddie channel!!!

I would watch SoapNet all the time. I enjoyed watching the reruns of the soap operas that were no longer on the air. Also if I missed my soap during the day I would tune into SoapNet at night. It is sad how the soap world is coming to a rapid close.

I agree 100%

I was astounded at how good Ryan’s Hope was upon watching it on Soapnet. When it originally aired I was a kid and while I liked it, I lacked the ability to recognize how damn good the writing was. Here was a real working class Irish-American family trying to just get by featuring great characters like Frank, Pat, Mary, Roger Deliah and of course, the Ryan patriarch and matriarch who ran Ryan’s bar where everyone knows your name.
I always wished Soapnet had aired classic episodes of AMC. I wanted to see Phoebe Tyler Wallingford battle that “Cane woman” or that “Donna Beck person.” Phoebe, the great blue blood, founding member of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution, was a great character. I also loved the way Agnes Nixon utilized Shakespeare and The Romantic Poets into the writing of Cliff and Nina and later, Jenny and Greg. In its day, AMC was damn good but Soapnet showed the era which was AMC on the decline–the awful Fusion girls, the Ken doll pretending to be a real boy (Ryan) and of course, Erica Kane’s aborted fetus who lived to torment her. I didn’t watch the last 10 years of AMC because it had become so bad, and Inever understood why Soapnet showcased those last 10 years. The query has been made,”Who killed the Soap Opera?” One of the answers (at least as far as AMC is concerned) is bad writing.

Most episdodes of AMC were erased and tapes reused before 1976…however, much of Donnas story should be around somewhere…i hate that the networks use to erase and reuse tapes of their serials…many great soap moments are gone forever!!! Some pre1976 episodes of several soaps are shown on utube…only two former soaps…the gothic horror serials Dark Shadows and Strange Paradise still have all their episodes available with only DS missing at least 1 ep. from its 5 year run and some replaced by kinesscope! Strange Paradise was syndicated and produced in Canada but lasted about a year. Both soaps are from the late 60s to early 70s!!! Ryans Hope i believe has all its episodes too…it debuted in the 1970s which you probably knew…i believe it has all its episodes too!!! All soaps that premiered after 1980 should also have all their episodes from what ive read…i would rewatch Santa Barbara again…one of the best soaps ever!!!

Thank you (Jimh). That explains a lot. Yes, Santa Barbara was a real gem and I never understood why it was cancelled.

I completely agree. I loved watching the old soaps. Or catching GH in the evening. I found One Tree Hill and watched the whole series, since I didn’t see it when it was on air. I also used to enjoy watching Dynasty, and Knotts Landing. By the way, the new series of Dallas, EXCELLENT! However, I hope nothing happens to the soap genre, I started watching General Hospital with my great aunt when I used to visit her during school break. I was 10. Thirty six years. Now my 11 year old likes to watch the Patrick and Robin storyline. I due have to fast forward and screen things, but its fun girl time. Like me and my special aunt. I will miss you soap net. And networks please save the soap.!!

I can’t watch One Tree Hill reruns anymore

Yes I hated 90210 that was their go.to series i wanted more old school soaps, not the teen scene

Yeah I got the upper level package so I could get the soap channel I liked both and the oc both is on Netflix but the of isn’t wished it was back

Live and die, that’s life. While some things die to soon some live to long and in my opinion that was the status of soapnet, especially over the last few years.

I want to thank those who were involved for finally pulling the plug instead of giving false hope through life support.

Something else will come along to fill the nitch until it also runs it’s course.

Good just bc u did not like it do not say suff like that

This is so very sad. I was truly enjoying the old showings of All my Children. I watched Ryan’s Hope and Another World. I would not sign up for ANY service unless it ran the Soap network. This is not a good sign of things to come. The people at Soapnet should know how well they did and brought us a good service fulfilling our needs.

This is so sad 🙁 Give a good ole soap anytime compared to the STUPID reality shows!!!! I HATE this…

I would watch: Day & General Hospital at night even if I got to see them during the day. I used to watch One life to live & All my children too. My computer is older & it doesn’t steam fast enough to view the shows online–even though I have 4g claims to be fast high-speed internet! I really miss soapnet.
Sad supporter

Sorry, I meant Days of our lives

There have been times when DOOL would be pre empted when national news would break in or local weather. I would always use Soapnet as a back up. I am not a fan of watching episodes on my computer so I’m very disappointed

I totally agree w/ you. I’m a long time fans of Days and I enjoyed watching episodes in the evening while I was at the gym or later at night while sitting in bed. Now I have to DVR episodes and catch up later. I often find episodes get cut for special reports like if we get a couple inches of snow or some bs in Russia (if I really cared about this stuff I would be watching CNN or Weather Channel). So many other networks are inundated w/ crap reality shows and mindless drivel. It was refreshing to have a network devoted to current and classic soaps which are/were well written and a welcome escape from “reality” I hope this network returns someday.

I am so mad looked forward watching my episodes on Soapnet very disappointed they did that

To me, SOAPnet’s Soap Talk was the BEST!!!!! Anyway, so long SOAPnet!!!!! Ya’ll will be truly missed. Peace.

I agree. Loved Soap Talk. i will miss SOAPnet. It was the one channel I watched daily. Knew it was coming, but still sad 🙁

That show “Soap Talk” (with Ty Treadway and Lisa Rinna) could have been so much better, though.

If it was using “Entertainment Tonight” as a template, it should have had more than interviews with actors: there should have been segments on the ratings, Where are They Now?, and maybe a look at that week’s soap magazines. It was very lazy and underperformed but had amazing potential.

SOAPNet seemed to prefer that other show where they went inside soap actors’ house more. I wasn’t crazy for it though.

i m sad too. i love soapnet and ROFL to the people adaging,”Well ONE TREE HILL and BEVERLY HILLS 90210 was shown to the point of ad nauseum ROFL i was a addict to the soaps re-runs too beside 9021, and T.Hill i will purposely stay up till a four in the morning for AMC non-stop and then six a.m. till 9 a.m. for one life i am hooked! i m going to miss it,i do already for 3 days since new years eve but i m so glad my regular few main soaps are left on regularly.I hear OPRAH channel OWN will pick up beverly hills 90210 and or tree hill or both.i m not a fan of veronica mars even if it look OK imo.but definitely not a fan at all of a gilmore girls boringgggggg. i m still hoping a channel air all soaps classic i am talking about the EDGE OF NIGHT I MISS RAVEN AND SCHUYLER and i want amc and one life guiding light as the world turns.if i hit the powerball or rich off a bizness venture,i will do this seriously… and night all happy new years.time for GH RIGHT NOW.thank GOD FOR DVR. to record the four remain soaps on air,and thank god for you tube…
till hopefully a cable channel care enough about us die hard fans and show the soaps-off air,i dont’ know why it can’t happen there are only what about 1000 to 2000 cable channels of BORING SH—T reality kim k show to bad girls on oxygen,i don’t get why one network can’t show this…i hope it is true about oprah or lifetime.

from morgan farantino on facebook .

I agree100%

I love watching all my children i loved adam and krystal. They were my favorife couples.

I am really sad to see soapnet channel leave the air!! I’ve been a soap opera fan since I was 17 years old , and now I am a 52 yr old mother of four who is a die hard fan!! I am calling my lying cable company to cancel some of my service due to the cancellation of soapnet bc that’s the only reason I went along with having above channel 100! I have to investigate a little for Hulu or something or buy a VCR to record GH like I use to back in the day?

Its actually NOT your cable company’s fault. If you were still getting SoapNET until the very end, you should actually THANK your cable company as many providers stopped broadcasting the channel awhile ago and switched the station to DisneyXD.

It is in fact ABC/Disney that owned SoapNET and THEY are the ones who chose to stop providing the network’s content. But don’t blame them either because when the channel first came on, they had brand new soaps airing from 7PM until midnight with NO reruns.

Thanks to the cancelations of “GL” “AMC” and “OLTL” and CBS taking over TVGN, which lead to the removal of “Y&R” from SoapNET, they only had “GH” and “DOOL” to show as new soaps. So can you blame ABC/Disney? Of course not! Y

You really can’t run a network with only two new hours a day/night of “new” programming, programming that can be seen online, on demand, or if you invest in a DVR from your cable provider instead of a VCR (good luck finding one of those still), you can record your shows in the afternoon from the network.

I loved watching the reruns to All My Children (had them set to record) and watching General Hospital (also set to record). Yes, I can still record General Hospital via ABC or watch it through the ABC app, but not All My Children. This is soooooooooo not cool. Plus I like that occasionally whenever you got the urge you could kick back and watch some of the older shows that no longer play on the air.

I think it’s more to the story (maybe they are trying to “direct” the traffic back to ABC daytime—force people to watch the shows they put on the air to replace the daytime soaps they took off the air), but hey, I guess I will just have to settle for the new All My Children episodes (hopefully they are still coming back) and since I actually love GH, I’ll record through ABC or continue catching them on the ABC app. (outside of that, I still refuse to support the other ABC daytime shows).

I agree wholeheartedly … Sometimes breaking news will come in and disturb the recording of a soap. I was always able to go to soap net and catch up what I missed… I do not watch “the chew” purposely because they took the place of AMC!!! I HATE reality shows and in my opinion that is what is wrong with a lot of our youth… Give me the drama story lines any day!!!

Nooooo! I enjoyed the old episodes of AMC, OLTL & GH during the wee hours of the morning 🙁

Me too. Will miss those on sleepless nights.

I agree. .. this sucks. Seems like all of our favorite soaps will be gone:( SO DISAPPOINTED! !!

me as well

With you on that. I would always watch the midnight show of AMC before bed. It is very disappointing.

I remember that when I first heard that SoapNet was starting, I was SO excited. As a diehard ABC soap’s fan, the thought of being able to turn on a soap channel that would also have original programming devoted to daytime stars and the shows. Then, my cable network didn’t get SoapNet and when I would call to ask about it, I was treated as if I had 2 heads. No one knew what I was talking about. Neither of the two providers in my area had it. I was envious of those that did but after repeated attempts, I went on with life and forgot about it. About almost a year later, I was totally surprised one day while flipping the channels, to see SoapNet. I called my provider to find out when it had been added and they told me that it was added a month earlier. No advertising, no fanfare, nothing. It just showed up. I wondered how many other people had no idea it was there. I checked with neighbors who were also soap fans and they also had no idea. Anyway, my point is, I never felt it was handled well. They could have done so many more themed marathons (a nurses ball marathon comes to mind) and had more fun with this channel. I am sad to see it go because it reminds me of how little Disney/ABC seems to respect the daytime drama and it’s fans. I used to live in Orlando and when I found out that SuperSoap Weekend (which even my father in law who was a very prominent Disney executive at the time said was a horrible idea due to its incredible draw) I got a pit in my stomach about the future of daytime, that has only eased a little this year with the resurgence of GH. Now, if only ABC/PP could settle their case and ABC would wake up and try to add the daytime drama back to the afternoon lineup. A mega soap of GH/OLTL would have been great. Oh well, I digress. SoapNet is just another corpse that Disney/ABC is leaving behind in its slaughter of Soaps. Thanks Brian Frons.

This is beautifully said and very insightful. Thanks for posting this. I, too, felt that Soapnet could have, and should have, done so much more with airing special marathons than the nonstop Beverly Hills 90210 repeats they aired, ad nauseum. I wish ABC had realized what it had and used it better. As it is, I will miss Soapnet very much, along with all the ABC soap repeats, as well as the original runs of DOOL and GH. And I’d also love it if one day, ABC decided to bring back AMC, OLTL or both to its lineup. Miracles do happen, at least I’d like to think so.

Maybe a mega soap between OLTL and GH is considered a good idea by OLTL fans, but as a GH fan I cannot think of any idea which I would more strongly despise. Just sayin.

I have always been a GH fan and OLTL was my second favorite until OLTL’s last network season. I thought it was beautifully wrapped up despite me not wantimg it to end. I thought that the addition of several of the OLTL characters to GH really helped lift GH up a bit from where i think it had plummeted. Just saying…

Still blaming Brian Frons who doesn’t work there anymore is like still blaming Bush for our country’s problems.

I agree with your every word, Shara. Soapnet seemed to lack focus–I appreciate all of your well written insights on this subject.

I think it really sucks! I still love to watch old episodes of One Tree Hill, All My Children and One Life to Live! Where else can you catch old epis of AMC and OLTL? Disney makes enough, don’t they want to keep us fans happy?

I have my DVR jammed with AMC repeats! Will miss the AMC repeats. What a shame. I sure wish someone would just start showing AMC from the beginning. I know some of the shows are lost but that is ok. They could just skip over the missing shows. I would pay to watch those shows. Bye again AMC.

Bravo!! Agree with everything you said. My DVR is also filled with AMC shows.

I would watch them!

I would love 2 watch AMC & OLTL from the beginning !!!

YES!

Sadly, the tapes of the early years were destroyed by ABC some time back.

Such a shame. I’ve relied on Soapnet quite a bit in past years. So sorry to see it go.

Soapnet has been gone from my cable provider for more than a year. Probably more like two. It is sad it didn’t work out, but I’m glad that other channels are rerunning the soaps.

What other channels are rerunning the soaps? Not the ones I watch which are only ABC soaps, and PP’s versions.

TV Guide Network airs Y&R and B&B. General Hospital is On Demand. Wish Days was On Demand too or TVGN.

What other channels will be returning the soaps? I would love to know!!

My soapnet since want off this year

a number of people were on the soapnet fb page last night and everyone of us had seen that soapnet ceased to exist for our cable providers last night, not tonight. When I click on 158 on my remote now, I see ???? on my screen and no AMC or OLTL old episodes were recorded last night , early this morning. I mourn the loss of the old soaps yet again, and of my Brothers and Sisters episodes. I’ve seen them so many times I almost have them memorized, but I love them and still miss the show so much. I should not say hate, but I intensely dislike you, ABSleaze/Disney

I actually set the DVR to record the last GH to be shown on SoapNet and true to form, they cut the feed before the end of the episode. One last slap in the face from Disney.

That may have not been Soapnet’s fault. I don’t know if it’s my cable company or my DVR that many shows are cut off before the end. I hate bright house

I am going to miss SOAPnet; just yesterday the local ABC affiliate interrupted General Hospital for a press conference on a local sports team. Had I wanted to watch that conference, I had many options…I’ll never understand the decision to so frequently interrupt the daytime dramas. And yesterday’s GH was notyet available on demand via DirecTV last night.

Thanks to SOAPnet I was able to rewatch Melrose Place long before it hit DVD and rewatch other 80s shows like Dynasty and Falcon Crest. It also gave the opportunity to see Ryan’s Hope once again in its glory days.

RIP.

Paul…dude…the original Melrose Place takes me back…1990’s and all. Yep. Anyway, Melrose Place…my ALL-TIME FAVORITE TV show of the 1990’s!!!!! LOL!!!!!

It’s my all-time fave show of the 90’s as well. Actually, it’s one of my faves from all-time. LOL

It’s just another slap in the face to us soap fans from abc/Disney. They continue to show us how little our devotion and loyalty means to them. When they cancelled amc & OLTL they said the genre was dying. No they’re trying to kill it. They could have put those. 2 shows on SospNet and then made it a premium channel that so many would have gladly paid for. Things would have been so different. But you can be sure the extra million viewers GH picked up that abc raised their advertising rates. abc used to care about the fans – no more.

I totally agree with you!

I had SOAPnet for its entire run. was even willing to pay a higher cable bill when I had to go up a tier to keep it. SOAPnet had so many great moments, I’m really going to miss it.

As a lifelong ABC soap fan I never watched Y&R until it came to SOAPnet. i’ll forever be grateful for that and the repeats of RH, AW, OLTL& many other classic soaps.

Thanks for the memories SOAPnet. I miss you already.<3

I loved The new episodes of General Hospital. But, having SoapNet I was able to go back to a few years or more to see classic re-runs of General Hospital, All My Children, One Life to Live, Gilmore Girls and of course my favorite drama in reruns that ended in 2010 was Beverly Hills 90210. With out SoapNet being on the air most of the shows I desire aren’t all on YouTube and I can’t afford Hulu plus or anything else. Not even the complete series of most of these classic wholesome loving romantic dramas. In so ways you are breaking my heart since I’m a heart patient who gets ill very easily and has to miss work once in a while and I always turned on first my Soapnet station and work my way down to my other favorite stations. When people aren’t so sure how many more years they have left on earth to enjoy and to get rid of their shows. It makes them upset and disappointed. I had to record my shows the classic ones and no its not enough just a couple episodes in total sucks. I want my SoapNet to stay on the air. I want my shows to be placed on DVD for a cheap price. I want to be in a Soap Opera following one of my dreams but, since this station is soon to be history. I pray that another person is smart enough to be able to afford a station and add every darn soap opera that there is ever been created with out the pointless adds. If we can have a movie channel with no adds I want a drama/soap opera station with General Hospital, All My Children,Dallas, Beverly Hills 90210, One Life to Live, Melrose Place, The Waltons, Party of Five, Little House on the Prairie, Paradise,Guns of Paradise, Life Goes on ,Christy, Dr.Quinn,Dynasty,Falcon Crest,In the Heat of the Night,One Tree Hill, Gilmore Girls,Touched by an Angel,Big Valley, ER,Third Watch,Law and Order Special Victim Units,CSI Miami ,CSI NY,Blue Blood, Chicago Hope,Chicago Fire & 7th Heaven not just the new episodes but, from the very beginning plus the movies that the shows may have or special holiday episodes . Either we can get all of my shows to be on Netflix for free or on Youtube or I pray that my dream can happen for all the fans who are angry with seeing the SoapNet ending at 12:00am No one had asked us. People just decided to fight like immature youngsters and go to court for nothing. We have enough pointless children shows on many stations the SoapNet was the top #1 teenage and adult station for love, passion, romance, sex, adventures etc.. Why get rid of the good things to enjoy. Why do I want to flip my station to see Wild Kratts or any other dumb pre-school crap that doesn’t make any sense what so ever. I’m nearly 36 and I’m single and just cause I have two young nephews and a niece on the way and I may work in a child care center. It doesn’t mean that I live in rated G world 24/7. I want to see some adult action in cop shows, hospital shows, in fire house shows and in western shows or shows with families living on a farm but, not just in the 1864 etc.. years on t.v. I want to have a happy life forgetting how weak I can easily become. I want to watch things on my Fios on the stations that my parents and I paid for. We didn’t ask for our SoapNet to leave our airwave. You owe us a better channel or our money for ripping us off. I want to see Lucky on GH, I want to see Jessie on OLTL, I want to see Ryan on AMC but, with the newer shows my favorites are history when you make this station history. You are indeed making a SoapNet Loyal fan disappointed. I want to see my Soaps so you better find a way to make this young lady smile and live a fuller life with a better chance to live with the disease she must live with forever more. I want my SoapNet can someone just buy that station so it won’t leave the airwaves at midnight. Someone please help and keep this station on the airwave. Kate.

WOW this post just had me in tears & I totally agree !!! U t in prayers … GOD BLESS U & Happy New Year #2014

I agree with you 199%

The soap genre is dying and this is proof. I’m no longer watching anything but I’m still a little sad. However I did not watch Soapnet..

Sad to see the end of SoapNet. I never had it… but watched when I used to travel 100% of the time for work. I actually enjoyed watching Soap Talk when I got the chance… in addition to GH and OLTL.

I really don’t understand why someone doesn’t start a new soap network and combination web based site to show the last soaps… but also all of the new web soaps. I have also not understood why they never did orignal programming… be they movies or short arc’s of shows using daytime talent and then they could have a show like Soap Talk to showcase the talent and show the daytime emmys and the web based awards. There should be a multitude of possibilities to get soap viewers watching! It just hasn’t been done by the right people!

Don’t forget Hulu shows GH and DOOL the next day!!!

I will miss the specials they would air. Like They started on soaps and daytimes greatest weddings. They would always air classic episodes. My 2 favorite specials were The Devil made me do it, where they showed the classic episodes of Marlenas posession on days of our lives and luke and laura through the years, ALL of the classic shows from their love on General Hospital. I will miss watching the classics.

To me SOAPNet died years ago. I loved the concept of the channel but the execution was utter garbage. I felt the programmers did not give a crap about soaps and it showed. While we did have reruns of Ryan’s Hope and Another World, the rest of the line up left a lot to be desired. Too many primetime shows and not enough daytime reruns like Santa Barbara or Guiding Light. Yes, I know reruns cost too much but would it have hurt to create original programming at least? I hope someone gets it right and there is a new 24 hr soap channel in the future.

I completely concur!
With the New Year upon us, GH and Y&R proving to be disappointments, Prospect’s inability to keep OLTL and AMC running, and finally, Soapnet going out with the old, I have faced the resolve that my thirty-five year soap habit has come to a close. The gods are trying to tell me something!

Soo sad!!! I watched soap net every time there was an interruption in my soaps for the “news” which is rarely a worthy interruption. and where will I get my Gilmore girls fix?! So long and thanks soap net!

I really love Young and the Restless and bold and the beautiful they are my two favorite stories to watch.

So so wrong. Soapnet will truly be missed. Loved soap stalk & one day with. Plus having my soaps and marathons was always fun to te watch or catch what I missed. Soapnet always did fun promotions and giveaways and loved them at SSW always making the fans feel important. Sad to see ABC screw this up too

I am already missing SOAPnet. I recorded shows to watch while I was on the treadmill. Because it was on everyday, I was able to have something new to watch, and motivation to get back on the treadmill to see what happened! Thank you for the shows.

I feel sad about soap net leaving the air this is hard to see these soap opera

I am sad to see. Soap net go

Very Sad. I will miss Soapnet.

I LOVED SoapNet. I started watching GH and One Life solely after being hooked by their marathon weekend showings. Loved their reruns of Knots Landing . I especially loved having an easy option if Days or GH were preempted on their networks. I loved MimiI Torchin’s short lived blog on the SoapNet website. When I first got cable, I decided on Time Warner because they carried SoapNet. I used to love turning to the channel and letting the soaps play out while I did chores, work, etc. Whar a shame-SoapNet could have been an amazing channel. Too bad the ABC idiots dropped the ball by airing those boring night time shows instead of sticking with daytime soaps.

I am so SAD to hear of the news that there will be no more Soap Net Channel, I work a lot and I will miss my soaps now due the loss of this channel, I wished they would have considered working people and left it on the air! I plan to call our local cable company and get my rate reduced as I paid extra to have this channel. I will truly miss the channel and hope that someone out there will pick up where Soap Net left off!!!!

I am so sad to see this channel go, for years I enjoyed watching old Another World episodes…we will miss you!

I too.. LOVED soap net

this was my chance.. to reel Lisa Rinna… and Ty Treadway.. on Soap Talk.

Lisa Rinna… I love you…

Days of OUR Lives.. you became a part of… you are a part of the history

——-

I agree with many… with all the beaking news… and national news coverage.. interruptions.. it was soapnet that I turned to…

Disney/ABC is so wrong.. in dissing a genre that supported

I too wish.. they would have fleshed out their cable schedule…

and showed all the cancelled shows… they would have invited a sterling audience

our dollars and mindset is as stellar, and on par… up front..

my cashola.. spends

R.I.P. SoapNet. You were never quite what you should have been. I’m still waiting for you to rerun ‘Loving’ & ‘The City’

I truly will miss Soapnet. It’s hard to believe that next week…ironically the 44th anniversary of our beloved All My Children…..will be the first week in 44 years that the show will not be on television. Yes, the reruns were not like having new quality programs for the show, but you could at least see the excellence of actors such as Vincent Irizarry, David Canary, Rebecca Budig, Debbie Morgan, etc. And favorite storylines were revisited throughout the years on Soapnet.I will also miss the Brothers & Sisters marathons on the w/e. It is rather profound that as they showed the 2009 season of All MY Children in order, we watched the last aired episode yesterday which was Adam & Annie wedding ceremony shortly after Adam remembered that he killed Stuart. Of course, the wedding did not proceed when Adam had flashbacks about Stuart and collapsed. I guess it’s very sad.but fitting that after JR says they can not find Adam’s pulse during CPR by from Jesse and JR. Annie says in a panic sounding manner…oh no! Adam is dead. Thank god that Adam survived in the next episode which will not air. Unfortunately, the wonderful All MY Children has not. I agree with MF article about the best/worst of the year. The online version of AMC left more questions than it answered. Still glad that it was produced….was really hoping for a second season so that we could see the tortured father, David, finally meet his son. And to see further stories for Jesse & Angie, the incredible Opal and the rest of the cast. I started watching AMC in 1970 and it will be in my heart forever!!

This was the only ch that I got to watch one tree hill and 90210 I watched everyday i am sad that I can’t watch my shows anymore

I think it is the wrong move to end Soapnet. I will miss Gilmore Girls and Brothers and Sisters the most. When I couldn’t sleep at night I would watch these shows. Now new children’s programming is scheduled. How many children are up watching tv at 2 or 3 in the morning? The answer is ZERO! I agree with another poster who suggested having children’s programming earlier in the day while keeping the soaps and soap like shows on at night. That would have been the sensible thing to do.

Early New Years morning. Woke up watched the news and the weather as usual. Snow and below zero. Did a few chores. At about 7:50 ordinarily it would be a good morning to watch the GH episode on Soapnet since I missed it yesterday. Oh well, not an option. I will miss you soapnet especially your AMC late night shows.

This is the worst day ever! I didn’t even know about the channel being removed! I watch 90210 everyday and I’m so upset it’s now gone 🙁

Seriously. This is not right at all. It was bad enough that one life to live & all my children were washed away. I wake up and I can’t even see the reruns of before. No indication that they can now be seen on channel ???? Not everyone likes reality shows, how to fix your life shows, talk shows. There are still millions of soap fans and we need our station. You can create every station there is but just toss the soaps down the drain. Smh

I cannot believe after all of these years and the only real way I can stay on top of mt favorite soaps I am no longer going to be able to watch my shows at the end of my day to live vicariously through my soaps when my family is finally asleep and I can enjoy the only downtime I have. How can this be? I have a 47″ television do you really think I want to watch this from my iPad or laptop or even my smartphone. What is wrong with this? Things are getting good again on GH. Ughhhhh Signed soooooo not happy.

I am CRUSHED!!!!!! I had no idea this was happening. I live for my sundays of 90210 marathons and one tree hill!! Ughhhh i was legit depressed turning on the tv today to see that it was gone. Will there be any other channels that will have 90210 and one tree hill on them? Again, im crushed.

Me too! I had 90210 on series record & wondered why there were no episodes being recorded after 12/31. I still have 10 episodes to watch but I will be sad when I don’t have anymore. I would like to find out if any other channel is showing 90210.

I loved watching Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls. I will miss both. Good bye Soapnet!

As a devoted soap fan since I watched with my late Mom when I was 6 years old, I totally agree with everyone who loved and cherished these shows….Disney certainly does not understand the idea of soap operas and what it meant to their fans……they had no clue…it is only about the “money” to them. They have made very bad business decisions in the past—this is the worst….Goodbye, Disney.

Beverly hills 90210 is my favorite show and now its gone! I was right in the middle of the series! I’m seriously bummed.

Same here…UGH!!!

Someone needs to create a distribution model for all the old episodes of all the old soaps. Subscription price and streaming privileges. Seriously, it would be great to be able to watch various storylines from whenever and whatever program, and it would be goldmine of information for the remaining production teams as they were able to glean the most popular ideas of all time. It would give revolving writers a major heads up on background information for characters, unique styles for characters and programs, etc. AND it would create recurring revenues for these expensive productions that could be tracked and awarded to the creative teams or networks.

Soapnet at its best? Ryan’s Hope, of course. Ryan’s Hope in its early days was good enough to be a night time drama. It also introduced me to Another World, a soap I did not watch while it was running and I was surprised at how well written and well acted it was. I became hooked on AW after it was so abruptly cancelled. Soapnet at its worst? The endless Beverly Hills 90210 marathons. I think had Soapnet focused on vintage and classic episodes of certain soaps while helping viewers catch up to shows they missed the past week, it would have thrived and survived. And I think all episodes of Beverly Hills 90210 should be blown up least people from the future think those whiny little brats with too much time and money on their hands really represent American society in the 90’s.

how awful. Bring soapnet back and now

Another reason to not watch ABC.

I will certainly miss the GH replays each night; I will have to watch them on demand now. I’ve been missing my other fav Y&R for awhile now as my cable carrier does not offer TVGN. My other guilty pleasure was Gilmore Girls on the weekends, i would watch it while sitting on the bed, folding laundry. It became part of my weekend ritual…guess I’ll have to get a housekeeper now 😉

Thank you Michael for the great and prolific reporting in 2013! We look forward to read you in the New Year.

mwah

OMG Cannot believe that Soapnet has gone off the air. Was really disappointed when Y & R was not shown on Soapnet anymore but at least GH was still being aired on the network. This is really discouraging. When I couldn’t watch these 2 soaps during the day at least I could watch them later on. What’s next…. They keep on taking the good stations away from us!!!! Please think about the TV viewers when making these decisions. We are the ones who contribute to the ratings!!!!!

I watched soapnet every day. The only way to watch GH as I work during the day. I will miss this channel. Thank you for 13 years.

I loved Soap Net. I am very sad they are going off the air. I loved catching up on GH but on the weekends I looked forward to reruns of Gilmore Girls. It seems the Networks have forgotten that there are still people who enjoy getting lost in the drama of Soaps. I hope they reconsider and put it back on.

I can’t believe that I won’t be able to watch Days. Any other options available for those of us who have day jobs?

How can I watch Days?????

I know!

Loved to watch a weeks worth of current GH in a night. Also enjoyed watching the old AMC and GH. Will miss the late night Soapnet lineup.

Carol Burnett Talks About Being a Superfan of ‘All My Children’ on ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’

In a heartfelt reunion, of sorts, the one and only Carol Burnett appeared on Monday March 25th episode of Live with Kelly and Mark.

Burnett had first met Kelly Ripa (Hayley) and Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo) back when they all appeared on All My Children together. Carol played Verla Grubbs first in 1983 and then again in the 90’s.

Host Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, AMC) noted to Burnett that “we go back a long time”. She also described Burnett’s character of Verla Grubbs, “extraordinary in every way.”

Carol’s love for All My Children is well-documented, hence legendary soap creator, Agnes Nixon, created the role of Verla for Burnett.

Speaking on how her passion for All My Children began, Carol told Kelly and Mark, “It started with my kids. They would watch at noon. I said, ‘What are you guys doing?’ I sat down and I started to watch and I got hooked!”

When Carol’s family decided to travel through Europe during one summer, the comedic legend recalled thinking, “How am I going to last if I don’t know what’s going on in Pine Valley?” She revealed she had a friend, “who sent me a telegram to the (different hotels) on Fridays to bring me up to date.”

In a hilarious moment from the segment, Carol recalled receiving a late night telegram while in Lake Cuomo when there was a knock at her hotel room door from the hotel manager who was shaking.

Carol related what it said, “Erica is still in a coma. Mark slipped again and ran away from rehab.” As Kelly and Mark broke into laughter, Burnett continued, “Chuck has learned that Donna is carrying his baby, who was once a hooker.”

Check out Carol explaining how she became an AMC Superfan below.

Malachy McCourt, ‘Ryan’s Hope’ and ‘All My Children’ Actor, Dead at 92

If you watched Ryan’s Hope through its 14-year-run, you know that Kevin the bartender became a beloved “member’ of the Ryan clan on the defunct ABC daytime drama series. The character of Kevin MacGuiness became so loved by the fans because of the actor who portrayed him, Malachy McCourt.

Sadly, according to his wife Diana McCourt to The New York Times, Malachy passed away on Monday from a heart condition and battling cancer. The actor was 92-years-old.

Playing Kevin on Ryan’s Hope was not much of a stretch for McCourt, because in his lifetime, he was the owner of 1950s Irish pub Malachy’s on Third Avenue in Manhattan. Known as one of the city’s great story-tellers, patrons from longshoremen to the actor Richard Harris would stop in and talk all things Irish with . On Ryan’s Hope, Kevin was best friends to “Ryan’s Bar” owner, Johnny Ryan (Bernie Barrow) and he tried to keep Delia (Ilene Kristen) on the straight and narrow.

In his soap opera career, McCourt also was widely-known for his role of Father Clarence McCourt on All My Children especially come Christmastime. Was Clarence, actually St. Nick? That was always the proverbial question. McCourt also appeared on the New York soaps: One Life To Live, Search For Tomorrow and Another World. Other roles included: Devil’s Own, Brewster’s Millions, The Molly Maguires, and Starman, to name

Later in 2006, Malachy ran for governor of the state of New York as a Green Party candidate. He tackled social issues of the time including being an advocate for gay and lesbian groups to march in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

McCourt’s childhood was recounted within his brother Frank McCourt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela’s Ashes, which detailed their mother’s attempt to raise the four of their surviving seven children in poverty in Limerick, Ireland. Later, Malachy wrote his own memoirs: 1998’s Monk Swimming, and 2000’s Singing My Him Song.

Malachy is survived by his aforementioned wife, Diana, daughter Siobhan McCourt; sons Malachy Jr., Conor and Cormac; stepdaughter Nina Galin; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
