Steve Burton Talks His Return To GH: From Patient Six, Contract Status, Billy Miller, Maura West, To Reuniting With His Longtime Pals!

This week, during his Satellite Media Tour for his return to General Hospital, Steve Burton chatted with Michael Fairman on how things are shaping up being back to his old stomping grounds on the ABC daytime drama series, and playing out the storyline of “Patient Six”, (or is he the real Jason Morgan returned from the dead?), which has fans anxiously waiting to see how the story unfolds. All of this on the heels of the reveal that Jason had a twin brother, Drew. With Billy Miller still at this point inhabiting the role of “Jason” and Sam (Kelly Monaco) in love with her man and their trip to Manhattan on the way this week, the drama continues to take some twists and turns.
Here are some excerpts below from the video interview, where Burton clarifies that he has signed a contract with GH for three years, what it has been like to return and if there was any trepidation in coming back five years later, what it was like to work with Maura West (Ava) for the first time, and how things shook out with Billy Miller when he told him he was coming back to GH, and more.

As to what Steve thinks of the storyline that has been plotted out, he expressed: “The way the story is rolling out is exciting for me. Before, I would only read my scripts the night before. Now, I am reading ahead to see what’s happening. As an actor, there is so much rich story to tell with going back and seeing what’s happened with everybody’s life with Sam (Kelly Monaco), Carly (Laura Wright) and Sonny (Maurice Benard), Michael (Chad Duell), and Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst), and all these people that I had great connections with to see what’s happened, and if they have moved on, or if they are still around, and to figure out what is going on in Port Charles when I get there”
When clarifying for the fans just what is his contract status with GH, Steve revealed: “I signed a 3-year contract. So, I am here for 3 years. I would like to be here longer, but obviously you go year by year, but I have no intentions of it being short term.”

Coming back to GH 5 years later, since Jason was so connected and key to the canvas, Steve shared if there was any trepidation, or concern that the return might not go as one would hope: “Obviously, that is in your head. There is huge emotion tied to me coming back for me, personally because of the cast and the crew, and being there for 20-plus years. Then you want to tell the story right. You want to do it justice. You want to serve everybody who’s involved. I think it’s playing out great from what I am hearing from the fans. People are excited to see the next day, and that’s what soap operas are. That’s what we want to do … we want to tune-in, and just keep watching.”
Since Steve returns imminently means he could be revealed to be the real Jason Morgan, he shared how things went down when Billy Miller found out Steve was coming home to the ABC daytime drama series: “When Billy first started playing Jason Morgan, obviously there are a lot of things that go on behind the scenes that people don’t know about. Billy was gracious enough to call me when he got the role. When I found out I was going back, the first thing I did was call Billy. We got to work together on The Young and the Restless. We were friends, and at one point we had the same manager. So, there is not going to be this big face-off of Steve and Billy. Everything is good, man. We have been working together a lot.”

Since Steve’s first scenes back to GH were with Maura West, someone he never worked with previously, he had nothing but kudos for the fan favorite actress: “Maura has been in the business a long time. She is incredible to work with, and I am glad I got to work with her first. She was someone I had never worked with, and it was cool. Obviously, I did not say a lot in the first couple of episodes, which was probably better for me (laughs) so I can get warmed up instead of being thrown right back into it, and figure things out. Maura is great! I hope I get to work with her more. Ava did help “Patient Six” escape and so that’s a big one.
When pressed to how long fans might have to endure Sam, Jason, and Patient Six not truly running into each other, Burton said, “It’s sooner than later …. It’s going to be very soon!”

WOW! I didnt realize he signed a 3 year contract? Thats great! Also happy to hear that he will see Sam soon and his reappearance wont be drug out for a year! Great to have Steve back!
T, I made such a complete turnabout with Steve. I have really come to admire him as an actor. Those last few werks at Y&R ingratiated him to me. I respect him and his craft.
Furthermore, so far, he has impressed so much dispelling any doubt I had.
The only hitch is his meeting with the Three Musketeers. ( Sonny, Carly and Sam).
I know you like Sam…… I tried…hopeless!! LOL.
I knew you would eventually catch Stevemania! Dylan was a brutal Y&R character BUT when they wrote him off, he got to show his acting chops! Steve has been great with Ava and even Huxley has been palpable. I do not look forward to him seeing Sonny and Carly. It will be too sweet and too many bro moments! MY Third Musketeer is Spinelli! I cannot stand him and he will blow a gasket when he sees Stone Cold! Sam, there are TWO reasons I like Sam, no just kidding, I like her. She is more tolerable to me than Liz.
@Timmm….So then, exactly what, pray tell, are those two reasons you like Sam??? Her immense intellectual prowess and awesome ability to emote? Yeah, I thought NOT! LOL…(Just teasing, Timmmbo! I’m actually pro-Sam, too…) Still, your sentiments regarding the roles Sonny and Carly will be playing ala the “Q a Deux” scenario are certainly not unique….most of us seem to be dreading those two taking front and center during the telling of this “twinning” tale. However, as for Spinelli? I am excited to see him reunited with his old pal, “Stonecold” since theirs was a genuine friendship and yes, “bromance” that was both heartwarming and sincere, even if it frequently took a backseat to the ongoing melodramas which ensued at “Casa Corinthos!”
Patrick McGoohan played Number 6 in The British tv series The Prisoner..is this where they got the idea for calling Steve Burton’s character?…seems that way!!!
Number 6…Patient 6???
That’s an intriguing theory, jimh! I never watched “The Prisoner,” but I am aware of its premise! However, you are certainly not alone in your efforts to infuse GH’s current storylines with such a creative and logical aspect, since a number of us have previously sought inspirational clues from classic dramas, literature and world history to explain various mysteries, even though I suspect probably none of our breathless suppositions will actually bear much, if any, fruit.
Good call Jimh. Loved The Prisoner series. The Brits have such a captivating way to tell good stories. Other ones I’ve liked are The Avengers and Tinker,Tailor, Soldier Spy. Maybe Steve’s character is a pickup from this Patient 6, and it would be nice to know the newer generation of writers even know about some of these older series and would borrow from them. I would like to think so.
By the way, jimh, your mention of this iconic series was downright prescient! I just happened upon a new RadioTimes article which celebrated the show’s 50th anniversary and shared news of a documentary (“In My Mind”) being released about this still-unforgettable program, which includes rare interviews with its notoriously press-shy (and now sadly departed) star/showrunner, the late Patrick McGoohan. Having said that, I am definitely going to have to check out “The Prisoner”…its idyllic Welsh seaside village looks like my kind of place and actually reminds me of Doc Martin’s “Portwenn!” (Which is rather ironic, when you consider he often conveys the notion he feels like a prisoner amongst all those local yokels residing in his own backwater burg!)
“Burton clarifies that he has signed a contract with GH for three years,”
WOW… I was happy knowing that his “for awhile” was perhaps 6-9 months
THREE effing years
You think GH is still going to be on the air in THREE “effing” years?
you made me laugh…. rollingly so
it just took me by complete surprise.. that GH is THAT ( fargone ) to invest so much time in Steve Burton
already his eyes look tired
Let’s hope the show lasts that long!
I’m one of five people I know that’s been watching GH for the last 30 years or more. We don’t have any concern that it won’t be around for the foreseeable future.
What’s the matter, did somebody steal your lollipop?
I’ve been watching for 54 years, I think it will still be goung in 3. However; recycling actors as different characters does stretch the limits of what even loyal fans can endure. Steve Burton IS Jason, period.
I’m getting excited too! Because like Steve said it can go anywhere! Grateful for you coming back!
Gertie, what does watching the show 30 years have to do with anything? Ratings are in the basement and the show has not been renewed yet for another year. So that is a legitimate concern. I work for ABC and GH is not their top priority.
3rd
David, I appreciate your input.
I guess this is a case of killing the messenger? Or maybe more like cursing the weatherman who gives a forecast one doesn’t like?
I’m very excited that Steve Burton is back I will I’ve watched him ever since he began playing on General Hospital I’m so glad he signed a three-year contract but I hope it goes on for another 30 more years.
Yayyy. I’m so glad your back.
I love u Jason. So glad your back. You and Sonny are the best.
That remains to be seen
He left the show for “greener pastures” so I really hope he is NOT returning as Jason. He deserves to be allowed to return, but not as Jason. If he turns out to be Jason, I will stop watching.
So agree. The character of Jason is already on screen with Billy Miller.I personally do not want Burton on or anywhere near GH
Steve Burton IS Jason Morgan…aka stone cold. He perfected that character! I’m thrilled he’s back! Billy Miller is a great actor… IMO he’ll make Drew an amazing character out of this storyline. Steve always got results. Billy makes things worse! He doesn’t have the instincts. But he plays the family man(when the kids are there! ). He’s the attentive husband..I’m glad Billy’s staying,I like him… Butt Steve HAS to be ??!!!
as … long … as “Drew” ( Billy Miller ) breaks OUT of the dullard Corinthos orbit… then I wouldn’t give a damn what … Steve Burton and Kelly Monaco… do
there are enough – uninteresting – characters on GH.. that adding back in .. SB and KM … does not matter.
THE WRITING SUCKS
just , for the love of God, make Drew the missing twin… get his memory back… and lo and behold … he’s a doctor. he’s been missing all these years.. and yes, playing Jason
we can let that go… and it will have to mean a break up of : Billy Miller and Kelly Monaco. so she can go and hide behind Steve Burton.. who made her a star. gave her longevity at least.
IF , I F , if … GH has any smarts left
they will – bank – on Billy Miller as the reigning Quartermaine and give BM the free range to ACT .. as we all know he can. GOD , enough comments have been made… that he’s just not their. he’s trapped with Maurice Benard and Laura Wright… he’s more than a pretty boy toy… he’s no fool ? no? he wants to act… and recall his rise to the top @Y&R . GOD
let Steve Burton and Kelly Monaco.. go back
let them toil squander and WEAR the matching black outfits.
let’s watch a renewed vim and vigor at the GH hospital… and yes.. it’s going to be a reckon… with “Drew” Liz and Griffin.. and Dr. Bensch.
where are all the women @GH hospital… ok bobbie is enough.. still ?
GH simply has to fire Micheal Easton. Finn is a nonessential.
I agree. Steve is Jason and Spenilli gave him the perfect nickname of stonecold. He made that role and plays it to perfection along with Maurice as Sonny. I am glad he is back!!!❤❤
LOL! Burton has the “right to return” but not as Jason! He IS Jason. The idea that Miller is somehow owed the character when he’s totally miscast and a total flop is absurd. He also only signs one year contracts and would leave for “greener pastures” in a minute if he could. That’s unlikely though as his “great acting” is a figment of superfan imaginations. Maybe he was good on Y&R, I don’t know, never saw him. But Miller swallows his words, mumbles his lines and has no range of expressions. He’ll be at GH for a while and not as Jason Morgan.
@MB – Yes yes Yes – thank you
I’ve posted oft enough – I haven’t seen Billy Miller – since – Y&R
your post reads “perfectly”
“… his “great acting” is a figment of superfan imaginations. Maybe he was good on Y&R, ”
if GH doesn’t give BM at least a try @Drew as a doctor? just to get him out of … the Sonny and Carly show.
perhaps BM superfans may never get that want. I’m at “last” feeling this way now, about Nina. they are so close yet so far.. because of the friggin stinking writers.
I’d like to see Michael Easton on the chopping block.
I wish Sonny and Carly dead
i’m certain we can all agree on a right turn.. somewhere… the clueless Shelley and Frank, know by now their poop stinks
In any case … “LOVE YOUR last few lines”
“But Miller swallows his words, mumbles his lines and has no range of expressions. ”
is this not close too ? Stone Cold ? two for the price of one set of twin
what is Monica to do ? Robin Christopher for the heat and sensation
in any event : how far does Franco the nut up get with his new found lings ?
it’s always an interesting “charge” when a superfan gets another shot
I never watched Roger Howarth on OLTL. when he showed up @GH as Todd…
WITH Connie. this turned everything for me. I knew what fans meant. naturally, I fell in love
when a soaphopper scores. and it’s vanquished because of that law suit.
this is a great opportunity to flesh out and give Billy Miller and Roger Howarth some new tunes… dance
it really stumps me that @GH writers … give Franco these quirks and oddities… like being so afraid of losing Liz.. and acting jealous. at least this is the last reel we know. I like that “twin” portrait. it’s adding dimension to what could be RH . give him something to hold on to. so that other characters can appreciate him . show him building and gaining character.
if I never get to see BM outside of Sam. what a LOSS.
as for Steve Burton. all I know is his quiet masculine stature. and carrying out order.. and romancing Sam just enough to keep them
oh god.. heres to seeing that mortorcycle back. LOL
this trio of ; is at least far better without Carly and Sonny
Great that Steve is back. I am enjoying the exchanges with the man on the freighter.(sorry, I haven’t picked up his name) Great story lines will be going on I’m sure.Off to a good start!
I’m enjoying having Steve back so far as well. Like how it started with Ava who I’m sure will play a part on his return to Port Charles. And yes Huxley. Sometimes these unexpected encounters can provide some of the most fun. Wasn’t Huxley also the one who held Nick and Ava captive in his english estate?
If Steve’s return screwed with Billy then it’s war !!!
I don’t think Steve’s return will hurt Miller. If anything, his return might enhance Miller’s performance.
As others stated, Burton IS Jason Stonecold Morgan. Miller never felt like Jason to me and this comes from a huge admirer of Miller’s.
There is room for both men I think.
I think there is room for both Steve an Billy as well. The only problem is that Steve IS Stonecold which could put him back into the sphere of Sonny and Carly. And I have just had enough of their dominating GH. But what else can a Stonecold do? Just can’t see him going back to pre-accident days and becoming a doctor,
He did to me and Billy is a great actor on his own. Three Grammy’s to prove it. Doesn’t need Steve to help improve his acting. It’s all about the writers and how good the story is. Both he and Steve work well together.
Normally, ABC does not comment on contract issues, but they let it slip out that Miller signed a new contract so fans wouldn’t think Burton was forcing him out.
If he leaves it will not be because Steve forced him out. Steve said that Billy was awesome actor. He always signs a one year contract everytime because he’s interested in primetime and if something comes up he wants to make sure he’s tied down for too long.
Great to see him back. Cannot wait till he see Sam and Carly.
Hope Billy’s Jason stays with Sam
Very, Very Happy!
omg now can’t wait to watch general hospital every day Steve Burton makes the show ! He is the true Jason Morgan!!!
No he doesn’t. Everyone makes the show.
Excellent interview! I am so happy to see him back on the show. Equally exciting is the zest that Mr. Burton is exhibiting regarding his return. As soon as I get home from work I turn on the television to see where this story is taking us next. Very good stuff!!! 🙂
I can’t tell you how crazy Happy I am that Jason I mean the real and only Jason as far as I’m concerned is Back. We Love you Steve!!!
I love Steve but I love Billy too.
I am so happy Steve is back. I can”t wait for him and Sonny to see each other. I don”t care what anyone says Steve Burton is Jason. I like bully but I love Steve as Jason.
Maybe Elizabeth can have Jason(Steve Burton) since they have great chemistry and since Kelly Monaco an Billy Miller have great chemistry everyone could be happy for once
i agree I love sam with Billy let Liz have him and keep billy…
Works for me but that leaves Franco out in the cold.
On another note, am I just tesy and cantankerous or does Kelly’s manner of speaking get on anyone else’s last nerve?
She mumbles in a monotone so badly that I sometimes need to put on the subtitles feature.
Seriously people first off Steve coming back is the best thing that’s happened to General Hospital in years!!!!! And really…..!? Sam belongs with the real Jason….so let them be together and Liz if something happens with Franco ( I love Franco by the way) let her be with Billy Miller!! I love Billy Miller also!
Yes. Except I don’t want Liz with Steve either. Tamara Braun is coming on. Let him have her she is connected to the storyline.
I think patient 6 will be revealed as THE JASON MORGAN and Miller’s Jason will be revealed as twin brother Drew. It will be interested how it will affect the others.
Hope not
I think patient number 6 should turn out to be Nicklas
Nikolas is the yet-to-be-seen Patient 7
I didn’t watch GH when Mr. Burton was on. Always thought he was kinda dull on Y&R until his ‘swan song’ and really was impressed with his performances when given something more substantial to do. I am keeping an open mind about his return. I thought he had great chemistry with Ava, would like to see more of that going forward. Can’t stand Sam, now talk about boring! Really enjoyed the scenes he had with Trent Dawson this week! (Can we keep him, too??)
I like the way you think, jeanine. I didn’t watch GH at thst time either. I have come to like Burton after Y&R, as well.
Get on with the exposing of the storyline the plot is dragging out too long is he Jason or is he not?
A matter of opinion. Nothing boring about them
Steve and Billy can’t be the twins..
Steve is much older and looks much older than Billy..
Their height and age is way off for twins.
Thank you. Finally someone other than me noticed it. There’s nearly a 10 year age difference in them and it’s obvious.
Except Billy supposedly had his face entirely rebuilt after Ava ran over it in a stolen SUV. So they will use that as a reason to explain why Drew (Billy) looks younger than Jason.
It’s probably the most believable part of this whole twin story actually.
Su, I’ve said this from the beginning, remember? I concluded Jason 1 and Franco were twins. I think you agreed?
However, some fans pointed out the fact that Jason/Billy had plastic surgery after his accident, which accounts for his youthful appearance.
As far as height, not necessarily true. I have an identical twin and she’s, at least, an inch taller than I.
But, the point is, I agree that the two Jasons are not THE twins….enter Franco.
Hey, you never know, Russia-Jason may still be Nikolas. LOL.
@Steve.
Hey, Steve,
When I brought up the age difference between the two “Jasons”, you sort of nullified my comment by saying that Jason’s 2 youthful appearance was due to his plastic surgery?
Have you changed your mind? Do you now think that Jason 1 and Franco are twins?
@Celia
No, I’m sure that Franco is the spawn of Scott and Heather. I just found Harry’s theory to be funny.
I do wonder what was in the Moore family background to give both Jasons their innate ability to fight. It didn’t come from the Quartermaine side. Yes, Alan tried to blow up a house on Monica and Rick, but he wasn’t a fighter.
And why did he have to be brought back in with Ava’s “help”? Don’t know why TPTB keep pushing Ava on us? She should have been gone a long time ago–she was written in the proverbial “corner” and trying to “redeem” her has become just as tiresome as the “redeeming” of Julian (and now he’s out of prison and returning–egads).
And the scene today with the “renegade priest” had me sickened (double egads!). BTW, how did the character become a priest and a doctor: how many years would that take??? And the “priest” is young–could pass for Ava “child” (triple egads!!!). Sigh! Whew! Crazy-making. I mean, one can only stretch credulity only so far, right?
Correct on all three counts, Nancy! I’ve repeatedly noted that Ava has overstayed her welcome in Port Charles…there’s too great a sense that this character has already run her course, so it truly does beggar belief that she should experience yet another shot at redemption regardless of her most dastardly past deeds. Ditto for the cougar-themed rerun in which she is now co-starring with Griffin….her May-December rumpy-pumpy with the witless man-child Morgan was certainly bad enough, but this soulless creature sinking her unholy teeth into a lapsed padre’ of “The Church”—especially one so obviously her junior—is downright distasteful at best, and utterly disgusting, at worst. (If Griffin had to fall for an older woman, it should have been Anna…at least their connection would have been emotionally and romantically satisfying, not to mention, understandable!) As for Dr. Munroe’s seemingly simultaneous career paths in the medical and religious fields, I can only surmise he must have been a child prodigy who enjoyed a most youthful running start on his college education.
I do agree. I know twins are sometimes born minutes apart from each other but ten years apart? Poor Susan!
That’s hilarious. Add to that, she gave birth to the second twin 9 years after she died. If Soap Dish can bring back a deccapitated character, why can’t a dead woman give birth 9 years later?
Steve, I tend to visualize things too much, maybe you do as well.
I just pictured the doctor telling Susan,”Okay, your first baby boy is doing great and the other one is on the way.” Nine years later……………..
Their height is the same in real life. Both are 5 11. Their is 9 year’s difference in their real life ages. Since Billy’s Jason had plastic surjery they are saying that’s why he looks younger.
Please bring SB back as himself Jason .Sam story line will not be so boring there is no chemistry like SB SM. Billy Miller should be with Elizabeth.
Heck no. Way more chemistry with Billy and Kelly. Don’t want either with Liz. Especially my Billy. Tamara Braun is coming as new character. She’s involved with Patient 6 storyline.
So glad to see Steve back really missed him as Jason hope he goes back with Liz welcome back Steve
Glad he’s back. Welcome back Steve!
I was not happy when Steve Burton left GH but when Billy took the role of Jason wasn’t too sure of him but I love Billy as Jason I hope Billy doesn’t lose his contract because of Steve because he decided to come back and alot of good characters were let go because GH goof up and did the kiss ass thing to pay Steve Burton more money to come back to GH not cool at all why hurt and confused the kids with this nonsense poor Sam who will she turn to Jason or Dean
Billy. They are so hot together. They show more skin too.
Steve Burton’s interview was awesome <3 <3;-)
Love that he is back !!! I’ve watched GH for nearly 40 years !!!
I actually stopped watching soaps when Carly’s son died. It was to close to home for me but my mom called and said Jason Steve Burton was back and I have been watching again. I have seen Mr. BURTON IN OTHER MOVIES HE HAS BEEN IN. LIKE WITH ROBERT
REDFORD. TRULY ENJOY HIS ACTING.
Have to say I missed him with Redford. Enlighten me please.
I can’t think of the name of it, Nancy, But I think Steve Burton was in a prison drama movie. He was good in it. always thought Burton was a good actor and really underrated.
Brubaker done in 1980 filmed around Tennessee where SB eventually moved it starred Robert Redford and the late James Gandolfini SB was a priso guard I think.
Kay, Brubaker was a great movie but Burton was ten when that movie was released. Redford was in another prison drama movie called,”The Last Castle” which I think came out in the mid 90s and also starred James Gandelfino and Steve Burton.
The late and great Gandolfini praised Burton’s acting prowess which was really high praise coming from him.
I know Harry I have both movies n my files! sorry ! Thx for correcting me ! As for the character of Jason the only reason I would want Billy to really be Jason is to see egg on Sonny’s face he has treated BM on and off screen classless!
I’m so excited as Stephen is coming back patient 6 I like Bill but I would love to see patients 6 as our Jason Morgan
I love BILLY!
I am so happy Steve is back, Missed him since the day he left. But now I keep hopes that either Nicholas will be found alive, Just like a Chasidine, or even Morgan as I remember their bodies was not found. They have both been mentioned over and over again so storylines can still come up. Msybe Luke can make a cameo appearance of finding Nicholas or Morgan with nomemory, and bring them home. That would be a miracle story for Christmas. That would be the biggest dream.
So glad he’s back at first from the storyline I thought he was going to be Nikolas cassadine but I realized it was Jason not to be mean but I never really connected with the other Jason kind of irritating character he just never seemed believable. Toodles for bringing this character back now bring back
They can be twins…it TV. I want Steve to play Jason. Nothing against Miller but he didn’t play a good Jason and the storyline that Carly and Sam and Micheal says something is off with the fake Jason makes me believe that SB will come back as himself and Miller will be Drew. GH write some good stuff. Please. And will ya’ll get Shawn out if jail for a,shooting he didn’t commit. Julian has killed a million folks gets in and out of jail. Shawn doesn’t hv to appear on the show for him to get out. And what happen to the line that Brad parents maybe mobsters. Is his mom Ms Woo. Now that would be something.
Shawn is in prison with Blackie Parrish, Matt Hunter and Steven Lars Webber. All relatively minor criminals. Meanwhile, Sonny (and soon Julian) stayed on the “just visiting” portion of the “go to jail” space.
“Drew ” or Jason. Just glad Steve Burton is back. I am hoping he’s Jason….but happy either way
been watching the show for 35 years
Im.so glad the real Jason is back cause GH was not the same without stone cold so hopefully Sam will know the difference. This is a long awaited I stopped watching GH because Jason wasn’t on there now I’m watching hopefully everything goes back the way it is was I’ve been watch since I was little grandma got me started so GH is a family air loom let’s keep it
Great to see the Real Jason come back. Will we know where his twin Andrew has been since he was 5 living with Franco and presumed to be imaginary? What an aweful thing to do to a child. I love GH
I am so excited that you are back!! I have watched GH for 40yrs. When you left I was so peee o’d at you, I never thought I could forgive you. LOL I feel as if Steve Burton is the one and only Jason Quartemain – Jason Morgan – JaSam … I loved Luke & Laura but Jason & Sam I love more!! I hope you 2 get to stay together & Billy Miller is a twin that Helena has had and he finds his TRUE self and this is going to be so interesting!! I am exited about tuning in just like I was yrs. ago WELCOME BACK!
Jason Jason, Jason !! What about the other characters on GH. Thrilled that James DePavia is on GH !!! Hopefully, the writers will NOT make him a hated character. GH could really use another Steve Hardy like doctor …Dr. Bensch is perfect !! He has a fantastic soap opera history … already loved so much !!! Loving Kristina and Parker’s love story !!!
I’m just so excited to see another post.. loving, James DePaiva.
I don’t know what… he’s about… it’s giving me the heebie jeebies
Dr. Bensch… needs to be on this show.. in his few scenes.. he’s already kicked to the curb.. Michael Easton ‘ Dr. Finn . how dull is he
there is a mystique intrigue and whet the senses
Would have loved prisoner 6 to have been Nikolas–what a rich story that would have offered Genie Francis–now THAT’S what the viewers would have loved–at least this viewer and the longtime viewers of classic GH characters–and admirers of Genie Francis and her acting skills. But TPTB appear to be dedicated to NOT giving the viewers what they want.
And I’m putting it out there: I think Julian should just go away and let the sleazy doc and Alexis pair up–chemistry there and who doesn’t love James DePaiva–another good actor. Guess TPTB won’t give us that either. Another sigh. (And the doc can keep his paws off Kiki–but sexual predator would be a timely story to do given the Weinstein horror story, Bill Cosby horror story, and Trump man horror story.)
I haven’t given up on Nik making a return. Better story than Laura holding a gun on Valantin. And there are other rating cycles. And Spencer coming home form school. Plus, like the Q’s, we need more Cassadines. Don’t think I’m ready for a sexual predator story. Too much of that in the real news. But I am curious about doc/DePavia’s intentions. But wasn’t he also a little shady on OLTL? But not completely?
Like you, I haven’t given up on Nik’s return.
And, yes, Max was a bit shady on OLTL–but not completely. And I’m hoping he will have shades of gray on GH. More interesting that way.
James DePaiva is offering intelligence and trigger of sense’
are shelley and frank that daft
wouldn’t I like to kick them to the curb.
I would be great if Nikolas returns for Laura and Kevin’s wedding.
Franco finished come clean and tell Elizabeth the truth Jason have twice brother name Drew he not dead we note he is not death he is alive. Watch to see how Elizabeth will handle this wait see what will happen next.
He should be Jason and pretty sure he is but I guess I am. Not getting the so called chemistry between him and Kelly or Billy and Kelly! I just still think he would be. Great in politics. Never have I seen an actor manipulate a fan base like he does! Hey guys selling juice hey guys I have a restaurant hey guys I have brewery’s hey guys I have health shakes hey guys I quit y & r to be with family! Blah blah blah
Thanks for info re Redford film. I did see Brubaker but didn’t remember SB.
I remember now – it was with the Soprano’ the late great.. and sexy
James Gandolfini
admired and loved him
@patrick JG has the kindest soul I ever knew and he was not fake I am watching the Sopranos I miss him so much!
I was wrong see above Last Castle was the movie! Thanks Harry for setting me straight! Just got the movies confused but hey they both starred Redford !
Burton is back . Now, Jessica Tuck is coming onto the GH soap. RIDICULOUS !!! Scrapping Kristina and Parker’s love story and taking two of GH’s best actresses (Lexi and Ashley) “off contract”, is a disgrace !!! They were the only new storyline. The writing on GH leaves much to be desired. Everyone bowing to the great Steve Burton. I stayed loyal when all ABC soaps were being canceled. They can cancel GH. I’m done !!!
Ashley was never on contract and Lexi has not been on contract since she resumed the role a few years ago. That two recurring characters got a storyline was actually pretty good. Someone pointed out that Lexi booked some film/tv work, so Kristina has to be written out. Kudos to her. Parker has no other connections to the canvas, so use that money for vets.
If Tuck turns out to be Helena’s presumed dead daughter, that would certainly be interesting. Would be great to see Cassandra bump into Bensch at GH.
Who the Hell came up with the insane idea that Jessica Tuck would be Helena’s mostly mute “daughter” Cassandra, who was running around Wyndemere half naked well into a NY state winter?
That girl was the dumbest plot point Garin Wolfe wrote, and that’s saying something, giving his sickening obsession with turning the entire Spencer family into chemically addled arsonists. But she was in her mid 20s at most, while Jessica Tuck is clearly in the upper 50s. There’s no possible way in Hell that they could be the same person.
BTW, they never did bother to explain how Helena would have had a child who obviously would have been born after Mikkos turned himself into a popsicle.
Sure somebody else could have been Cassandra’s father (Faison maybe?) but then, she wouldn’t have been a Cassadine, and wouldn’t have had any rights to be squatting at Wyndemere while Nikolas was out of the country, and Helena was a resident of Hell (in between her escapes… let’s just say we tightned up the security in the Cassadine compound after that last round of “vacations”)
@Satan
The concept of making Tuck Helena’s daughter was probably wishful thinking by some to try and connect another new character to a long term family. I agree “the lady in white” storyline was beyond dumb, but Wolf was let go before it wrapped. It was Carlivati who made her Helena’s post-menopausal daughter and killed her off all in the same episode. He obviously wanted to wrap it up quickly and clear the deck for his stories. Tuck would be believable as Helena’s daughter, unlike the original actress.
Wolf also made Monica a sudden alcoholic and was planning on permanently killing off Robin.
Hi Patty
I agree with you
bringing back Kristina and Parker.. was an ideal situation.. showing maturity and relevant story to newbie audience factor
I was ready to be distracted.. and hopeful … for Kristina , Valerie, and parker. dang it.. I am so enjoying Valerie.
GH went off track.. when they REELED him dim lost for word and blue eyed him all over the place
so friggin what
what a coup .. big Steve Burton
They do not have the guts to tell a gay storyline on daytime they did on NBC but everybody else is scared
I can’t with Steve Burton. He acts in every scene the same way. One note. He is boring. When they want to ratch it up a tad, they have him fight someone. YAAWWNNN! Three years. Way too long for me. Look General Hospital has one of the most amazing casts in the business. However, this guy is so limited. No wonder he signed for a 3 year run. No other show would have him. Y&R had him only because soap killer Phelps had a crush on him. And we all know what happened to her. It rhymes with MIRED. Look I want to believe that this addition to the show will add some spark but let’s face it. A world without Billy Miller is not a pretty world. I know he’s not going anywhere but can we please have a world where people know who they are? I mean seriously, one more unknown twin? Steve Burton needs to go to some online series with Phelps as creator and Pratt as the writer. They all go together. GH, you need to get your act together because if you don’t pull the rabbit out of the hat you could go the route of One Life To Live and All My Children. We need solid writing. We need to stop trying to relive the past and we need to be on par with Y&R and DAYS for good stories and consistent writing. I will never knock GH because of the talent on this show. I mean they are almost perfect but no matter how good the acting is, you have to have a good story to hold you. Stunts like Burton coming back from the dead just doesn’t work because he is a 3 in a cast of 9’s and 10’s.
“… GH, you need to get your act together because if you don’t pull the rabbit out of the hat you could go the route of ”
of course.. Shelley and Frank are so dim .. daft.. and extra dullard
their shit stinks.. and they now know it
Steve Burton “eyes” are blind
On a bit of a side note, could Hamilton Finn be a spin-off of the classic Mark Twain novel book character, Huckleberry Finn? Could Hamilton be a long-lost relative of Huckleberry? Lolz. If not that, then my current hunch is that “Hamilton Finn” is a cover up name for what and / or with whom could very well actually be a facially-reconstructed and alive-and-possibly-well Mikkos Cassadine? Unless Mikkos character should be much older in age-wise right now, that is IF this character were to actually be really alive and on the canvas today and / or these days.
If not Mikkos, then he could be another Cassadine. A long-lost one, unless they end up pairing up both “Hamilton Finn” and “Cassandra” / “Irina Cassadine” romantically…. and since Cassandra / Irina is most likely a Cassadine figure of some sorts, that might get too close for them to without it being an incestial thingy-majiggy.
What about maybe pairing Anna Devane with Doctor Bensch? Both Finola Hughes and James DePaiva may very well have some really good on-screen chemistry and / or “pull”, so-to-say. Or have a Valentine / Cassandra / Doctor Bensch / Anna quadrangle going. Maybe Nina can get straddle herself more towards Hamilton Finn’s orbit (?romantically?). Then, come to find out, either Kiki or Nelle is Nina’s long-lost daughter.
Well, those are intriguing theories, Ashland! I like the notion that Finn really could be a Cassadine….he has that dark, romantic “look” that would work well for such a role. I’m not so sure about him being Mikkos, though…I do believe his character was well over 50 when he attained frozen status, and was most decidedly not a chick magnet in the physical sense….so much so, I don’t think even the most skilled plastic surgeon could have molded his possibly thawed being into a magnificent specimen like Michael Easton! But as yet another son, brother, cousin or otherwise resurrected member of this most cursed clan? Well, yes, I find that to be a most tantalizing concept! Perhaps he is even the “real” Valentin? That would be so cool in that he was actually present and hiding in plain sight in Port Charles all along as an imposter was doing his bidding….what a fabulous twist that would be! Your proposed pairings could also bear some very interesting fruit, although I’m getting the uncomfortable feeling that Dr. Bensch likes his ladies on the young side, ala Kiki, so there’s a standalone story unto itself! As for Nina “straddling” into yet another man’s “orbit” (and bed?) I’m truly tired of the gargantuan effort to bring this abomination of a character into so many different dramatic spheres when she essentially fits into none of them….she most certainly should have been gone once poor Silas assumed room temperature at the hands of her mother, given her extremely limited usefulness was basically almost nil even before that point.
It’s almost time for Michael Easton to switch characters again. Finn can join Silas Clay, John McBain, Caleb Morley and Stephen Clay in the character heap.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.
Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.
As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY
Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.
Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS
Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.
In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”
So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
