‘Strahan, Sara and Keke’ Canceled by ABC; Show Aired In Timeslot That Once Housed ‘All My Children’

Photo: ABC

No matter a network tries to do, replacing All My Children, which ran for 41 years on ABC has remained as everyone that follows the world of daytime drama knows, problematic.  Now come word via Page Six that Strahan, Sara and Keke has been canceled.

The show hosted by Michael Strahan, Sara Haines and Keke Palmer if you recall, replaced the foodie show, The Chew which ran for seven seasons and was the first show to air in the timeslot that belonged for over four decades to All My Children.

Back in March of this year, Strahan, Sara and Keke took a break to make way for ABC’s News  Pandemic: What You Need to Know, a daily coronavirus report anchored by Amy Robach, Dr. Jen Ashton and sometimes TJ Holmes.

However, because the show did well in that two-week experimental run it morphed into GMA 3: What You Need to Know.  The new version of the show also talked about hot topics in the current news cycle, as well.

ABC’s Catherine McKenzie began producing the “GMA3” show four months ago and the network officially announced her as Executive Producer of the program on Thursday.

While ABC has yet to officially announce Strahan, Sara and Keke is over, a spokesperson told Page Six: “We’re proud of our teams at ‘SSK’ and ‘GMA3’ and how quickly they transitioned to producing a daily show to give people the news and information they need during an unprecedented pandemic, and conversations continue about how the show will evolve in the months ahead.”

It appears that Strahan, Sara and Keke won’t be returning; the future as many of their staff have transitioned over to ‘GMA 3’ with producers from ABC News Live, (the streaming division), helmed by McKenzie.

As for the futures of Strahan, Haines and Palmer; Strahan will continues to host Good Morning America, and they are all actively under contract with the network.

So, what do you think of  ‘Strahan, Sara and Kek’e being replaced by ‘GMA 3: What You  Need to Know’?  How long do you think that show will last in the timeslot once taken up by residents of Pine Valley? Comment below.

Please bring back “All My Children.” Do we need another talk show? I know Drew Berrymore was planning a talk show and am hoping this will not be the S,S&K replacement. There are too many shows doing the same things with different hosts. Nothing feels original anymore. If ABC does not bring back “AMC,” how about an entertaining game show. “Lets Make a Deal” and “Price is Right” scores huge ratings for CBS. I’d like to see “Password” or “Concentration” come out of the vault.

i wish they would. or sign over the rights to someone else.

Good, when will ABC learn bring back daytime

It was a mistake in the first place. I am a Guiding Light fan and As The World Turns Fan.

Won’t miss this show, it was terrible from the get go.

It’s time to bring back All My Children

Please Bring back All My Children, with all these reruns. Why not bring it.

I liked and miss the SSK show. When something isn’t broke why fix it

They already signed the rights over to someone else. That didn’t work out very well.

Sounds like a bunch of old ass racist, bitches on here!

How are these women racist?? Thats how war begins, by people saying something that isn’t true. Dont we have enough problems in the world today about racism, now you’re bringing up racism cuz they’re talking about different shows.

Why would you say that? I am Black, lived my life I am in my 40s watching AMC. DIDNT LIKE THE FOOD SHOW, kept feeling like I was watching tracee Ellis Ross, and just not entertained. SSkeekee was ok, but I didnt see why you said that these comments are racist. That wasn’t fair to anyone.

Your ignorant and really mean. Try praying for some love in your heart.

ALL MY CHILDREN,

ALL MY CHILDREN

PLEASE COME BACK.

Don’t know who that was directed at, George. But since you seem to be replying to me…..

To paraphrase my good friend James Brown, who lives a couple floors down from me right here in Beelzebub Towers….

SAY IT LOUD! I’M RED AND PROUD!!

I agree… Bring back All My Children… Should have NEVER been taken off the air

Right, that was a mistake and devastating to me!

OMG, do any of you realize how old these people are now, and some have passed. Anyway, old or new actors, it would never be the same.

Bring back All My Children, we don’t need another talk show.

It doesn’t hurt my feelings that it was canceled. We need something entertaining, not news, or just music but something good for a change. They decided to take all the soaps off maybe they could take some of this mess off. Pretty soon shows like GMA will be all that’s on during the day and that’s when I turn my TV off.

So True!!!!!

They need to bring back AMC.

straham Sara and Keke was a mess to watch, Sara Haines does way better at the view wish I hope takes her back, or she can do what you need to know with Amy Robach. straham already got plenty of jobs, and Keke can go back to doing movies. all will be good.

Bring back All My Children.

I am very disappointed. Looked forward to SSK every day and don’t like the replacement. The hosts made the show. Will have to find something else for that time period.

Yes, they should find a replacement….uh…guess what – I KNOW – they could do a reboot of ALL MY CHILDREN ~ YOU know, that show that should never have been cancelled in the first place? Yeah, uh huh, that one.
BRING back ALL MY CHILDREN – wake up ABC-TV, nothing works in that time spot.

Love the new show what you need to know!. Amy Rebockr does a awesome job. It brings value to that time shot.

this is a hood show

Not surprised at this news! The show was doomed from the start because it featured Michael Strahan! The only time I watched was when they had part of the AMC cast on and it was so awkward!!
Sara & Kiki are fine, I’m sure. But how Michael got a show featuring him is beyond comprehension! He was awful on Kelly & Michael Live too!!

That show was awful – Kiki way to stinking full of herself – as is Straham. I refused to watch the chew for a couple years but once I gave it I actually enjoyed it. Did not understand why they got rid of it. If we can’t have AMC – why not a cooking show???

Either AMC or One Life to Live should be brought back! But I have never expected ABC or the CBS (to bring back GL or ATWT) network daytime executives to do anything that actually makes sense. One Life to Live closed in Jan 2012 with ratings reflecting 3.1 million viewers. Guess that ABC would love to have 3 million viewers in daytime again.

Karma. You broke our hearts when you cancelled AMC and we will never forgive you.

Don’t know if there’s any chance of bringing back any of the dead soaps to fill this timeslot, but maybe they should move GH up by one hour, so the idiot TV affiliates in some markets don’t have it running against Days of Our Lives at the same time.

Also, they should drop the idiotic cable company “lockdown” on abc.com. No network that broadcasts over the public airwaves should be requiring a cable subscription to watch the programs carried on that network.

Will not miss it at all,it never took off for me my bring back amc have missed it

It will likely be 2 game shows. ABC has several they have the rights too that run at night over the summer. When you look at daytime ratings before all the re-runs of the summer took hold, 2 shows were tops in ratings and demos….CBS’s The Price is Right and Let’s Make a Deal. They are cheaper to make and are paying off with ad rates. Bet ABC goes the same direction. Soaps are too expensive to produce.

Who cares if another reality show hits the dust or, for that matter, another fake news show? The networks seem to think they know what viewers want more than the viewers. I don’t even turn my television on except for episodes of GH. There just nothing on daytime except for GH. Networks just cut their own audiences by digging to the bottom of the barrel to bring out these blabbering hours of nonsense.

Agreed!

I liked the show. It was meant to be light hearted anf fun, so the timing with the pandemic and 120K deaths was off.

I figured the cancellation was coming. The show wasn’t for me.. and the ratings were low. I had hoped with all the attention reboots and AMC were getting that what would come would be a 30 minute GMA3 and – 30 minute AMC, which would return to taping in NYC. Guess not. :/

Of the co-hosts, Haines has always been a favorite of mine. I do hope she finds a quality assignment that allows her to sparkle. Perhaps a return to The View?

I’d rather have the people of Pine Vally back on at 1, just my opinion

When Is ABC Bringing Back All My Children And One Life To Live.

That’s scheduled to happen the day after I open a ski resort here in Hell.

I’m sorry but the cancellation of Strahan, Sara and Keke does not break my heart. I mean…I only watched that show ONE time…and that was because of that Melrose Place reunion. After that…No Thank You.

N-E-X-T…

I didn’t like Strahan, Sara, Keke. I prefer having a soap opera again don’t need a cooking show. Don’t want to watch the news. Don’t like the bachelor, don’t like bachelorette oh, don’t like dancing with the Stars don’t like your goofy game shows heck I don’t even watch Good morning America anymore I don’t like the fact that an athlete is reading the news now make same thing for Robin she start out as a sports reporter I mean come on what’s next Bozo the clown going to be the next TV anchor? I don’t like the Kelly either still can’t figure out why she got an Emmy for her show? Oh well I like Tamron Hall good show

Wow!!!! Tell us how you really fill. What do you have against athletes? Do you even like anything on TV?

Please bring back Guiding Light and As The World Turns! I know you won’t even consider canceling one of the Bell SOAPS to make room.Get rid of the talk…its not the same as it was when it premiered.Better yet, how about putting GL and ATWT IN NIGHTIME…at 10 or 11 at night? Or even at midnight! I think that timeslot should be considered and tested out.The 11:00pm timeslot would allow for the network programming to still air. I for one, will definitely watch… Thank you.
Fran Lang

Here’s the line-up:
10:00 – The Talk
11:00 – Price is Right
12:30 – Y&R
01:30 – B&B
02:00 – ATWT
02:30 – GL
03:00 – Let’s Make A Deal

12:30 thru 2:00 keeps the Bell series together as today. With ATWT at it’s old time slot with GL following but at 30 mins each like Bold. Do I need to come up there and help these CBS executives?

I like this comment. Too often, ATWT and GL get overlooked in the lamenting of cancelled soaps. I am no television executive but have wondered, from an economic angle, how much cheaper would it be to produce a 30-minute show than an hour series? I’d guess that it wouldn’t be half the cost but it clearly would not be as much as producing a whole hour. I’ve wondered why (especially in the case of ATWT) reducing the show to 30 minutes was not considered rather than wholly cancelling it. A 30-minute ATWT would have fit nicely in a block with the 30-minute B&B.

I’ll go to my grave thinking P&G simply abandoned ATWT. It had a lot of history and (unlike most shows) still had a lot of its veteran actors on screen. The show died due to poor writing and production. For several years at the end, the writing was so unwatchable that I was convinced the shoddy quality was intentional. Any P&G executive with half a brain could have seen at least 5 years before the cancellation that those in charge of production and writing (Goutman and Passanante) didn’t have the talent or skill for their jobs and needed to go. Nonetheless, both continued for 5 years to “saw” away at this once great show until it was axed.

they are going to get on that right away , hahahhahaah.

Please bring back “All My Children”…several of the cast would come back. There is a Food Channel for those that want to watch food/cooking shows, there’s a Game Show Network, all these different types of channels, yet that one guy, (on ABC who I won’t name) wanted AMC gone for a cooking show. BIG MISTAKE!!! AMC still has a huge fan base. If you’re not going to start it back up, at least put it on Netflix or Hulu, bring the Soap Opera Channel back; or put it out on DVDs so we can buy it! Thank you.

Thank God, ABC really sucks in morning hours. These 3 really irrigated the hell out of me, couldn’t stand the show, so quit watching. ABC is rocking for their primetime shows though.

G8ad it is go he I liked it at first, but but when you added Kiki that ruined the whole thing you know I mean it’s just took away the limelight for Sarah and she deserves it she’s a good girl with a couple of kids and doing a show bless her heart I am god why ruin a good thing the panama the Panamanian whatever it is ruined it but Kiki attitude I thought she was too over-the-top loud and took away from Michael and I like Michael but she needs to go please we don’t need another talk show host that’s racist all right talk to
Everything is good shows was good I wish they didn’t change the names Kiki and Michael know Michael and Michael and Sarah were good but adding that woman that ruined it and that’s even before the pandemonium cell good luck to those two and I hope I don’t see her on TV he has I meanKiki I mean I don’t like her she’s too much of a camera hog hello can’t change everything is my opinion Pastor Hartwell

I prayed for the show to be canceled. My prayers were answered. Bring back AMC or OLTL.

Bringing back All My Children is the best thing that could happen to ABC and it would make so many people happy. I’m sure the ratings would be phenomenal! Please bring it back…

Bring back The Chew. Great show.

I’ll never have & never will watch anything that they put on at 12:00 or 1:00 on ABC since they took AMC off. They should’ve left All Zmy Children & One Life To Live alone. I hope every show show they try to replace AMC with fails. I watched it for 41 years & was heartbroken when they took it off!!!

I wish they would bring back The Chew. It was great show, entertaining, light hearted and some really great food. I

The show was boring, liked Micheal and Sara. They should replace Kelly and Ryan. She is so boring lackluster.

BRING BACK ALL MY CHILDREN OR ONE LIFE TO LIVE!!!

BRING BACK ALL MY CHILDREN when I was little I always want to be on there

Why do the networks then just we need to be overrun with news programs!?!?! Bring back All My Children!

Bring back Daytime Dramas!!! Thats where its at! The Daytime emmys coming back to television this year had millions of viewers, so just imagine what All My Children and One Life to Live could do…..come on people, everyone loves a Good Soap Opera!!!!!

I agree bring back AMC & OLTL … new or reruns I would watch and so would others!

Please bring back All My Children! There are enough talk shows and game shows.

Why cant ABC make a good decision anymore?! First they cancel 2 most beloved Soaps of all time, then they fire the best hosts of DWTS, now they cancel a really good noon time talk show (one of few on ABC i might add). I hate what they’re doing & i know there are many many who agree. I cant imagine Tyra Banks being half as good of a host on DWTS. I wonder if they’ll put another damn cooking show on at noon. Most of my nighttime favorites are on NBC anyway. After General Hospital, i switch to NBC also for Kelly & Ellen. I hope ABC gets a clue & quit trying to fix what ain’t broke!

Malachy McCourt, ‘Ryan’s Hope’ and ‘All My Children’ Actor, Dead at 92

If you watched Ryan’s Hope through its 14-year-run, you know that Kevin the bartender became a beloved “member’ of the Ryan clan on the defunct ABC daytime drama series. The character of Kevin MacGuiness became so loved by the fans because of the actor who portrayed him, Malachy McCourt.

Sadly, according to his wife Diana McCourt to The New York Times, Malachy passed away on Monday from a heart condition and battling cancer. The actor was 92-years-old.

Playing Kevin on Ryan’s Hope was not much of a stretch for McCourt, because in his lifetime, he was the owner of 1950s Irish pub Malachy’s on Third Avenue in Manhattan. Known as one of the city’s great story-tellers, patrons from longshoremen to the actor Richard Harris would stop in and talk all things Irish with . On Ryan’s Hope, Kevin was best friends to “Ryan’s Bar” owner, Johnny Ryan (Bernie Barrow) and he tried to keep Delia (Ilene Kristen) on the straight and narrow.

In his soap opera career, McCourt also was widely-known for his role of Father Clarence McCourt on All My Children especially come Christmastime. Was Clarence, actually St. Nick? That was always the proverbial question. McCourt also appeared on the New York soaps: One Life To Live, Search For Tomorrow and Another World. Other roles included: Devil’s Own, Brewster’s Millions, The Molly Maguires, and Starman, to name

Later in 2006, Malachy ran for governor of the state of New York as a Green Party candidate. He tackled social issues of the time including being an advocate for gay and lesbian groups to march in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

McCourt’s childhood was recounted within his brother Frank McCourt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela’s Ashes, which detailed their mother’s attempt to raise the four of their surviving seven children in poverty in Limerick, Ireland. Later, Malachy wrote his own memoirs: 1998’s Monk Swimming, and 2000’s Singing My Him Song.

Malachy is survived by his aforementioned wife, Diana, daughter Siobhan McCourt; sons Malachy Jr., Conor and Cormac; stepdaughter Nina Galin; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
