GH’s Maurice Benard (Sonny) and Laura Wright (Carly), Knots Landing and GH star, Donna Mills (Ex-Abby and Madeline), and All My Children’s icon, Susan Lucci (Ex-Erica) all appear throughout the film.

20th Century Fox has just released a few promotional teasers of clips from the faux soap opera. “The Joyful Storm” which is an intergral part to the storytelling.  In the movie JOY, Jennifer Lawrence plays Joy Magnano, the real life inventor of The Miracle Mop!

Betrayal, treachery, the loss of innocence and the scars of love, pave the road in this intense emotional and human comedy about becoming a true boss of family and enterprise facing a world of unforgiving commerce. Allies become adversaries and adversaries become allies, both inside and outside the family, as Joy’s inner life and fierce imagination carry her through the storm she faces.”

Now after the jump, watch Laura Wright and Susan Lucci is a couple offerings from what JOY audiences can expect when the faux soap is integrated into the film.  And, come back Monday to On-Air On-Soaps for a very special feature interview with Maurice Benard, Wright, and Donna Mills!

Lucci is famous for her face lifts.. She’s near 70 and looking good..
When l get old I want the number of her face doctor..
I thought Joy Magnano sells coat hangers,,
It looks good, I will watch..
It mentioned humour, I suspect that will be from the “The Joyful Storm” Soap Opera ” part of the movie, even the title of the soap is a bit humorous.

The good thing about Lucci is that she does not look like she has had face lifts. They were done in moderation; not drastic. She can close those beautiful, Italian, bedroom eyes. I simply love this woman. She does not live too far from me; always friendly; always a lady.
Some of us may not like Carly, but Laura Wright’s acting speaks for itself. She, too, has a very pretty face….natural, no work.
These two forces deserve every good thing coming their way.

Saw JOY at a special preview and the movie opens with the fake soap… it took a minute for me to realize that it was Laura and Susan… Laura was really great and I think is a much better actress than she’s given credit for .. and although Maurice’s bit is small, he’s so not Sonny that it was jarring… I’d forgotten that he doesn’t actually speak with that voice/inflection that he gives Sonny.

The movie itself is quite good although a little downbeat until close to the end. Bring hankies.

so far from what i’ve seen from the clips above, it looks like they are going off the stereotype of soap acting being over the top and cheesy, but like i said i ‘m just saying that from the clip i’ve seen above, i could be wrong still seems like everytime soap are seen in this fashion its to make it clear how cheesy soaps are and the people who watch it. i won’t really know till i see the movie though so who knows..

I did not realize that we, as soap watchers and fans, were regarded as cheesy. I suppose whoever thinks that, does not realize that we are the most intelligent bunch on the planet, right, Aria?
We may disagree, sometimes get our hackles up. But we communicate….can said people say the same? I don’t think any of us is cheesy. My husband says I have an addiction to my soaps (lol), but, he knows better than to call me cheesy.

I, too, don’t think of myself as “cheesy” – I am the first one to laugh at myself for watching DOOL and I often think, “oh gosh, this storyline is absurd” and I’ve been pretty vocal about my feelings here. We watch these shows for the sheer entertainment value and to see where the storylines are headed. At times they are silly, at times compelling, but generally entertaining. I enjoy watching actors work, I have little interest in viewing some inane reality show such as “the bachelor” or “the biggest loser” –

I am totally confused as to what this movie is about and if it makes any sense based on what I’ve read and heard on TV and here. I hope it’s not as disjointed and crazy and even stupid as it seems.

Lol, Lin. It probably is stupid and disjointed; but, we’re us d to that, no? LOL.

Beloved Soap Stars Left Out of 2021 Primetime Emmy Broadcast In-Memoriam Tribute

Last night, during the presentation of the 73rd annual Primetime Emmys broadcast on CBS, the annual In-Memoriam segment brought with it so many households names in a year that saw so many legacy talents and more pass away.

The tribute was performed by Leon Bridges and Jon Batiste to Bridge’s song, “River”, and as the images of the departed played across the screens from Cloris Leachman to Cicely Tyson, to Ed Asner to Michael K. Williams, and more, it was clear that several of the major late daytime soap stars were not included in the on-air tribute as well as other omissions.

Now granted, we know they will all be a part of next year’s 49th annual Daytime Emmy Awards in-memoriam segment, but still these actors were a part of this community and not only appeared on the soaps, but other shows as well.

Those that daytime fans noticed were not included were: Michael Nader (Ex-Dex Dexter and Dimitri Marick, Dynasty and All My Children) Stuart Damon (Ex-Alan Quartermaine, General Hospital), Ray MacDonnell (Ex-Joe Martin, All My Children) and Jay Pickett (Ex-Frank Scanlon, Port Charles).

From primetime MIA action were: Michael Constantine (Ex-Room 222), Tanya Roberts (Ex-Charlie’s Angeles), Director, Richard Donner, writer Larry McMurty, and DMX, to name but a few.

However, the Television Academy did list all of its members who died on their website in the In-Memoriam section, because due to time constraints, they could not possibly showcase everyone.

What do you feel about the omissions of Nader, Damon, MacDonnell, Pickett, and more from the In-Memoriam tribute? Let us know in the comment section, but first watch the segment.

AMC Alum Sarah Michelle Gellar Reflecting on Her Time on Soaps: “Anything I Can Do to Continue the Legacy I’m Very Proud Of”

Daytime fans knew of Sarah Michelle Gellar her way before her Buffy the Vampire Slayer days, when she stepped on to the small screen as Erica’s (Susan Lucci) troubled daughter Kendall Hart on ABC’s All My Children.

Gellar played the role from 1993 to 1995, and made a brief return in 2011 as the show came to its conclusion on ABC. Additionally, Sarah won a Daytime Emmy for her performance in the Outstanding Younger Actress category in 1995.

Sarah has partnered with Lysol for their brand’s Disinfecting Wipes “Buy One, Donate One” program. where now through September 26, whenever a pack of Lysol Disinfecting Wipes is purchased, another pack will automatically be donated to an under-resourced school through the Kids In Need Foundation.

The program is aimed to help curb the spread of illness-causing germs in schools this back-to-school season, a total of up to 16 million packs of Lysol Disinfecting Wipes will be donated to Title I schools across the country.

The program is the latest component of Lysol’s HERE for Healthy Schools initiative. Started in 2019 with the mission to help curb the spread of preventable illness and to help kids miss less school so they are able to learn, grow and thrive, HERE for Healthy Schools has provided educational materials for students and Lysol disinfecting supplies for educators and administrators to more than 49,000 schools across the country. This year, HERE for Healthy Schools is focused on helping to protect children, educators and parents as they make their big return to in-person learning in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking with TV Insider on the partnership, Gellar recalled her time on the soaps and how it changed her career and outlook, noting: “it was the training ground for the rest of my career.”

She went on to say: “I made incredible friends at that time and I learned incredible work habits, and soap operas are an intense amount of work, and I’m incredibly grateful for that time and the people that I met.  We live in a world now where my kids don’t even really know what a soap opera is, so anything I can do to continue the legacy I’m very proud of.”

So, do you remember Sarah’s time on AMC? What do you think of her thoughts on her time on the soaps? Comment below.
