The Young and The Restless Beau Kazer Dead At 63

Heartbreaking news hitting social media this morning.  Y&R alum, Beau Kazer has died.  The actor who for years played the son of Katherine Chancellor, Brock Reynolds passed away at age 63 at his home in Thousand Oaks, California on December 30th, according to reports.

Beau is survived by his wife Sharon Alkus who wanted to let everyone know just how much Y&R was a part of his life, and that he was very proud to be a part of.

The actor came on to the scene at Y&R back in 1974, and made frequent appearances over the next several decades.  And as had been told by the the late Jeanne Cooper (Katherine Chancellor) in her memoir, “Not Young, Still Restless”, even though Beau had played her son the show, they at one point had a romantic relationship.

Beau has changed his name over the years from “Beau Kayser” to more recently “Beau Kazer”.

Patti Denney, hair and make up artist at Y&R tweeted:  “So sad to hear of the passing of Beau Kayser … Brock Reynolds on the Young &The Restless…Kay Chancellor’s son… rest in peace Beau.”  Doug Davidson (Paul, Y&R) related, “He was such a loving, sweet man who loved life and the show. I will miss him.”

Damn it, sad! I was just saying how he and Tucker needed to be back on the show and represent the Chancellor name. May he be with the “Duchess” in the sky! Sympathy to his wife and the rest of his family.

Here’s hoping the “current” writers will acknowledge Brock’s passing, also. Seriously, I’ve been a part of the show since it began and this past decade has lost all the “soul” of Bill Bell’s vision. Brock brought faith to the other characters, and given Bill Bell’s catholic school education, you saw it in Brock. You also saw it in Liz Foster, and the two of them were the two crutches Kay Chancellor needed to survive. I seriously wish Kay Alden (whom I met in Chicago when I interviewed Bill about the show) was back at the helm– the program needs characters… Read more »

I agree Ron. It starts with the top, then the head writer, then the veterans on the show who should or could fight to keep Y&R’s good name. The show is nothing like it was a year or two ago, let alone five.

I read Cooper’s book over Christmas and was shocked by the claim of having an affair with Beau. I wonder if he ever acknowledged it?

I saw that and was shocked. Either way I hope it was on the up and up? [I didnt read Jeanne’s book] They can have all the affairs they want now! Sad loss, he was a rock in that household. What do we have now, Jill? Uggg!

Earline

Was he married at the time of the alleged affair? Was Jeanne? Because if neither one of them was married, then so what if they had had an affair! I’m not saying that it is alright for people to have a sexual relationship outside of marriage. What I’m saying is they weren’t actually related. So if they did have a sexual relationship that was their business. I’m not sure why it’s so shocking.

Any ideas on how to change things? Or, better yet, how to get a tribute for Brock’s death? I also think if these current writers had half the brains of their audience, they’d do a Bill Bell kindof thing: have Jill now wear Katherine’s shoes and bring in a young gold digger that moves in on Jill and hubby– you know, history repeats itself. And, what’s with the music selections these days? Good Lord (Bell would write and characters would say.) Man, they need to view and listen to those 70s episodes to see what makes Young and Restless not… Read more »

Ron, when Kathrine died I had hoped that Tucker would come in and fight Jill for control of the estate and fight Victor for the company. Instead we had that stupid music box story. One of the worst stories EVER! If you are too cheap or dumb to bring back Tucker, and I liked the original, yes Ron they should have made Jill the new Matriarch and had Nina or an unknown heir roll through town and reek havoc on Jill. Y&R does cater more towards the middle age fans, more than GH, but not enough these days. Its weird… Read more »

So sad to hear this news. Another link to soap’s glorious past is gone. I always liked the character Brock and Beau’s portrayal of him was a big reason why. I wished they had made the character and the actor a bigger part of Jeanne’s memorial and hope the show will do something to mark his passing. Rest in peace Beau, and give Jeanne a big hug for me, you both are missed.

Horrible news. Beau’s presence as the stoic Brock was always a comforting one. He was — in many ways — a patriarch on Y&R who always was the voice of reason to his mother, “The Duchess”.

He consistently gave solid, believable performances in every scene he was in; his calming nature standing in stark contrast to all of the craziness of the GC denizens.

I’ll miss him, but have many fond memories of his years on my favorite show. My thanks and sincere condolences to his family and many friends at Y&R.

Soaps are families. As a Longtime Y&R viewer, I am familiar with Brock and how he referred to his mother, Katherine, as Duchess. When one of the family passes, it is sad indeed. How wonderful to learn he remained a champion of the series and the genre.

This is very sad news, Beau was always such a warm presence on the show, and I really enjoyed his portrayal of Brock. I absolutely loved his scenes with Jeanne Cooper and Jess Walton, and I wished he was around more often! I think it’s important now that Katherine is gone, for her sons, Brock and Tucker, to return to Genoa City and make her proud by carrying on the Chancellor dynasty. Unfortunately, if Brock ever does return, Beau Kazer won’t be. I’ll miss hearing him say “Dutchess”!

Not to sound rude or insensitive here. Yes, it’s sad when anyone dies. But what are so many of y’all rambling on about him and the Dutchess being reunited and floating around in the clouds together. These were Hollywood actors with a 20 year age gap who had a sordid romantic past. None of you knew them, who they play on t.v. is not who they are in real life.

It just may be a way that fans are dealing with his passing. None of us knew him personally so we only have memories of what was presented on screen.

I think everyone posting here knows they are not their characters, but those who knew them as actors knew they loved the show, loved their characters and loved their fans. Both Jeanne and Beau would find fans imagining them as their characters reuniting in the afterlife as a fitting and touching way for them to say goodbye and meant to be a tribute to their legacy of work. They may have only been actors, but for many viewers these actors through their performances and respect for their fans did touch lives. You don’t have to know someone personally to wish… Read more »

Hi Mary. Actually…no…I dont agree with you, Im sorry. I dont agree that everyone here does know or think that the actors are just the characters. There were a plethora of posts about how Brock and the Dutchess are now floating around on clouds, hanging out together, being reunited, etc. Thats just messed talk. People who are dead are dead. They are in the ground. They are not whimsically floating around on clouds. If people put half as much time and concern into their real families as they did into these fake ones, we would have a much better society.

Mary SF

Okay now I think I understand— your issue isn’t with people believing these actors were like their characters, your issue is with the notion of an after life. I happened to agree with you once we are dead our bodies are worm food, but fortunately I also believe we are more than our bodies. I believe everyone has a spirit, a soul, an intangible that makes them, who they are, and I do believe that does live on once our bodies are rotting in the ground. I know not everyone believes that and that is fine, they will not convince… Read more »

Hi Mary. I like your posts. You are very rational and eloquent. Yes, when we die, we are dead. The Bible tells us that. There is no conscious thought, or feeling, or feeling. It is.likened to being asleep. When Jesus returns, that is when.we are resurrected. There is no eternal hell, such a concept is not Biblical and has no truth in what we know of God, who is a Loving Creator, not a torturing psychopath. I meant no disrespect to Beau, or his fans. Like I said, it is sad when anyone dies. But “”fans”just sometimes go overboard and… Read more »

Mac should be calling Victoria and letting her know that Reed’s grandpa has passed on, since Beau played Mackenzie’s dad on the show, and she’s married to JT now, Victoria’s ex and Reed’s dad. At least it will let folks know that he has gone. All My Children

All My Children and Guiding Light Vet, Gil Rogers Passes Away

Gil Rogers, who played one of the all-time most dastardly villains in soaps on All My Children and was the on-screen father to the one and only Reva Shayne (Kim Zimmer) on Guiding Light, has died at age 87.

News came via his daughter, Amanda Rogers on her Facebook page, relating that Gil passed away on March 2nd.

The actor had played Tad (Michael E. Knight) and Jenny’s (Kim Delaney) father, Ray Gardner on All My Children from 1977-1978 making multiple appearance though 2001, then later as Hawk Shayne on Guiding Light from 1985-1992 making multiple appearance through 2009.

Gil also appeared on Another World, Search for Tomorrow and The Doctors.

In her post, Amanda wrote: “Gil Rogers died this morning. As you all know, my dad was awesome. He was my best friend, confidant, mentor and just an awesome dad. He came to pick me and  Charlotte Whitaker Zdanowski up at clubs at 2AM in our teens to keep us safe, and drank bourbon with me every day since moving out here 2 years ago. He was welcoming and kind, funny and gregarious, a shameless flirt and a fierce protector. He loved his dinners with grandkids and endured animated movies and discussions about pokemon. And I miss him so terribly already. He died in his sleep, without pain or fear. I am so grateful to have had such a great father and to have spent these past 2 years with him every day.”

Check out this vintage scene below from All My Children where Ray played by Rogers blows up the Martin house.

Now share your remembrances of Gil’s performances and along with condolences for his family in the comment section.

Chris Harrison In First Interview Since ‘Bachelor’ Controversy Says He Wants To Be Back as Host; But GMA’s Michael Strahan Says Apology was a “Surface Response”

Thursday’s Good Morning America featured the highly-publicized first interview with ‘Bachelor’ franchise host and executive producer, Chris Harrison, since he stepped away from the show following his controversial remarks on current Bachelor contestant Rachel Kirkconnell, amid the airing of a season that has seen the first-ever Black male lead of the reality series, Matt James.

Speaking with GMA co-host, Michael Strahan, Harrison spoke of remarks he made during his interview with ex-Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay on Extra that sparked the firestorm.

Harrison admitted the words he spoke to Lindsey were “in a manner that perpetuates racism,” adding “I am an imperfect man I made a mistake and I own that. I believe that mistake doesn’t reflect who I am or what I stand for.”

The incident began when photos surfaced on social media of Kirkconnell at an Old South-themed party that she attended back in 2018, along with allegations she “liked” many Instagram posts that were racist in nature, and what many viewed as Harrison coming to her defense in this time of what he then called “cancel culture”.

On GMA, Chris expressed: “Antebellum parties are not OK,  Past, present, future, knowing what that represents is unacceptable.”

He also apologized to Lindsay, who had to shut down her Instagram account because of viral vitriol being sent her way over the incident with Harrison, adding this message to the public, “Anyone who is throwing hate towards Rachel Lindsay, please stop. It’s unacceptable.”

Photo: ABC

As to how he is trying to make amends, Harrison shared: “I made a mistake and I own that, Racism, oppression, these are big dynamic problems and they take serious work. I am committed to that work.”  The longtime Bachelor host then announced he is working with race educator Dr. Eric Dyson who has taught him about the idea of “counsel, not cancel”.

Chris says he plans to be back hosting the reality-dating series, expressing:  “I plan to be back. I want to be back.  This interview is not the finish line. There is much more work to be done.”

Following the exclusive, Michael Strahan described his conversation with Chris Harrison stating: “His apology is his apology, but it felt like it got nothing more than a surface response on any of this. Obviously, he is the man who wants to clearly stay on the show, but only time will tell if there is any meaning behind his words.”

So, what do you think of Chris Harrison’s responses during his first interview since the controversy? Should he return to hosting The Bachelor franchise? Comment below. But first check out his GMA exclusive.

GH’s Wes Ramsey Makes Statement on Criticism, Social Media, and Professionalism

General Hospital’s Wes Ramsey, who portrays polarizing character, Peter August on the ABC daytime drama series, responded to a recent take on his role from cast mate, Tristan Rogers (Scorpio) when a video made its way through social media.

The video was from a Cameo appearance, where Rogers offered an assessment of the Peter August storyline and expressed that while he knows Ramsey is a strong actor, he felt he was “wrong for the character” being that Peter was the son of the evil Faison played by Anders Hove.

Rogers also came to the defense of Ramsey and shared: “Don’t be too hard on Wes Ramsey. He’s got himself into a horrible storyline, and the storyline is the fault of the show. What they’ve literally done is they’ve painted themselves into a corner, and they don’t know how to get out of it.”

Currently, Peter’s story is front and center on GH with his wedding to Maxie (Kirsten Storms), and the fallout from all of the character’s dirty deeds.

Now Ramsey took to his Instagram account to address what transpired and his thoughts on the perils of social media, professionalism and acting, expressing: “Actors are storytellers, shapeshifters, chameleons. We’re also in the business of cultivating trust bc that’s how the best work is brought to life. We have to trust our imaginations, our instincts. We have to trust our fellow actors, because without them, there’s no scene to play. In the collaborative efforts of bringing any show to life, we also have to trust our directors each day to steer the arch of our story (like a conductor with a symphony) & trust our writers who are tasked with composing the symphonies we play out. I came up in a world of classical theater, where trusting the play, text, story is essential to the tightrope balancing act of making magic.  You will never hear me critique (on any public platform) the people responsible for the creative opportunities I enjoy each day. Without the trust of my writers, directors, producers & fellow actors, it would be impossible to live out my dreams. My job (& my only job) is to bring fearlessness, playfulness & passionate conviction to what has been created for me. My aim is to stretch myself (beyond the limits of where I think my boundaries may lye) each time I’m entrusted with material that allows those boundaries to be tested.

Every actor must believe they are the right person for their part or they will never achieve their potential, let alone surpass it. I was raised a gentleman & have two wonderful parents to thank for that, however, my polite personality (while rendering me easy to get along with on set) should have little bearing on my caliber of performance nor my castability as a professional.  I am leery of the pitfalls of social media & believe there are advantages to maintaining some mystery (even as a public figure) but I will always defend & protect what I hold dear (my job & my career) when they are publicly challenged, especially by those closest to me, whom I love & respect. Please know I bear no ill will. As a society, we are all still learning the full ramifications of living in an internet dominated culture. To all my many fans out there who offer encouragement & support, I hear you & am grateful for you. I’m having a blast… 🙂. Onward we go.”
