The Young and the Restless Camryn Grimes Delivers Power Performance Of The Week!

This week on The Young and the Restless was a dreadful one for the character of Mariah Copeland on The Young and the Restless, however it was an amazing one for her portrayer, Camryn Grimes!

In story, after Mariah is drugged, kidnapped, put in a wedding dress, and then finds herself married to the evil Ian Ward (Ray Wise), she is rescued by Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Sharon (Sharon Case).  When they get Mariah to a hospital, it is there she learns the shocking truth that the woman she despises (Sharon) is actually her biological mother.  Probably the girl’s worst nightmare on paper!

After trying to shake off the drugged haze, she realized that the man she trusted (Ian) and that raised her for all intent and purposes is a sociopath! Now everything she knew and believed was a complete lie and her life was in bigger chaos then ever before!  After Nick tells Mariah that Sharon and he want her to come live with them, Mariah refuses.   Nick asks her to reconsider, because she really doesn’t have anywhere to go, and that Sharon and Nick are her family now.  When Mariah returns to Sharon’s she wants nothing to do with her and she leaves.  Nick finds Mariah in Chancellor Park, and there the tough exterior of a damaged, down on her luck, and lost Mariah comes to fruition.  Nick even admits his part in making Mariah thinks he had romantic feelings for her!

Through all these emotional scenes it was Camryn Grimes who made the story plausible with her top-notch acting as she went from hurt, to angry, to betrayal, to disbelief, to completely lost, while the whole time keeping the characters harder edges.  That is why On-Air On-Soaps names Camryn this week’s Power Performance of the Week for a job well-done!

So, what did you think of Camryn’s performance this week on Y&R?  Do you agree with our choice? Let us know!

I smell an emmy nomination…and a who killed Ian Ward plotline…lol

WOW! If she does not win an Emmy for her performance this week I’ll be shocked.

I suspect that about Ian, too. I saw him last weekend at Fan Expo. When I told him how “bad” he has been on Y&R , he seemed to have a funny look but didn’t give me any spoiler info. He’s so nice in person I hope the writers find some way to keep Ian on the show in a way only soaps can do.

No doubt he has a twin laying around somewhere, doesn’t everyone in GC? lol

She is the anti-Kiki!

GOOD ONE, Timmm…LOL!!!!! And TOTALLY TRUE!!!!! Thanks.

I agree!! Camryn from an early age has always wowed me with her acting! She is awesome! The dynamic between Sharon , Joshua and camryn has always been awesome and they do some of their best work together! Camryn is a fabulous actress I’m so glad she is back on the show.

I agree with every word you said, Bee. Have always felt the same way. Remember Camryn’s courtroom scenes years ago? She knocked it out of the park, and miles down the road.. Just like this week.. she played it just right.. couldn’t have been more perfect in my opinion, neither overplayed nor underplayed. Really makes you want to come back the next day and see what’s going to happen next!!!

The girl gave me goosebumps then she does still with how good she is! I definitely think she will be up for an Emmy !!

So agreed. They make such a beautiful, believable family.

She is fantabulous and so are nick and sharon!

Camryn Grimes is amazing. She is carrying Y&R right now. I think she has clinched another emmy.

She was fantastic this week. I am very proud to be a Y&R viewer

Camryn is good but not exceptional .. Not an emmy worthy scene, she is simply acting and that is what actors do or should do, give great performances.. And Y&R is short on great actors so when one shows talent people see it as great in comparison..
Camryn is working with Sharon who is a terrible actress so ya she will look really good LOL 🙂
but, she did a really good job!! She is one of the best on Y&R ..

I actually believe that Y&R has many good actors. Actually they have had one of the best stable of male actors for years, CLB, GR, DD, PB etc.The women are now starting to come up now, and CG is one of them.

Yes, Y&R as you said has ”good” actors but none are great actors, and some are terrible 🙂

some see them as great characters but that does not mean they are great actors..

I agree, Nicole. I think Peter Bergman is one of the best actors on television period. Su000, I disagree about your summation of Sharon Case’s acting prowess. I think she’s very good and has really been pulling in a good performance lately. Her scenes with Camryn are especially good as the history between the two actors comes into play.

Harry..
Sharon is like a deer in headlights..
She plays the same note, always.. she portrays emotions as well as my goldfish..
People like the character but that does mean a great actress..
She doesn’t do anything but twirl her eyes and and and and well that about it ahahaa!
Camryn is very good and her playing off Sharon makes Sharon look acting weak in comparison 🙂

Sharon Case is a good actress. She can only express the words written by the writers.

@su000 how do you get great characters without a great actor portaying them.

That is like saying Michael Corleone in the Godfather was great but Pacino is only an average actor. You can’t have one without the other because a great actor brings life to a great character.

Sorry..
Sharon’s character is like watching a goldfish.. yawn ,,
never changing no matter the situation, all the same,,

She has many fans for a reason I would not understand, but happy she is loved.:)

Thanks for your opinion of Sharon and her acting su0000. It just so happens a lot of us disagree with you.

su0000 come on now. When Y&R was all over the place Sharon Case was a hoot as Loony toons Sharon Newman. She took that material and ran with it and at that time SHE was the reason I watched. I don’t want to see anyone else in the role of Sharon as they wouldn’t be able to play all the subtle beats and angst in just the way Sharon Case does. I have NO IDEA what actress you’re watching…oh wait…this is su0000 LOL

I am shocked that a few posters think Sharon Case is a bad actress – for years she has excelled! She is one of the reasons why I watch Y&R. Her chemistry with “Nick” is off the charts!!
As for Camryn’s performance, it is Emmy-worthy! I’ve watched child actors on other soaps that really suck but for some reason have a fan following and are kept on the shows. This storyline has me watching everyday rather than stock-piling episodes for a marathon on a rainy day.

YR has the best cast in Daytime…which is why GH is trying to get anyone on their payroll.

Grimes has done a great job transitioning from sweet Cassie to gritty Mariah. The show is smart to be featuring her. And remember folks…Josh G brought her back and it was Margot Wain, NOT Phelps who wanted her back on contract.

She is just a naturally gifted actress and it’s good to see her natural abilities have not diminished with the advent of adulthood.
But why is Mariah so angry with Sharon? The only person who went to bat for her before she knew who she was? And this was after she pulled that cruel stunt with Victor pulling the puppet strings.
Yes, I know Sharon said some awful things to her but coming home to see the ward you’ve taken under your wings wearing a teddy and a smile meant for your man does tend to make one angry.

Yeah, I know, I don’t get this either. WTF?

I think Mariah is using angry to cover up her real feelings. I think she was looking at Sharon as rival for Nick’s affection, so there is going to be some jealousy and dislike simply because Nick was in a relationship with Sharon and not her.

Second, I think she deeply hurt the way Sharon turned on her so fast. Granted seeing her in a teddy trying to seduce Nick would tick Sharon off, but her reaction was overboard. Sharon should have been more amused, or have compassion for a crush that was going to go no where. The reaction Sharon gave would have made sense if Mariah was a serious threat and that Sharon really thought Nick would go for it. But to fly off the handle like that, to call Mariah so many awful names, all of that just preyed into Mariah’s insecurities that she was truly not loved by anyone and that would get her dander up.
And thirdly I think the anger is to cover her embarrassment that she thought she had a shot with Nick when it became so clear there was no hope at all. I think she is taking that hurt and rejection from Nick and projecting it unto Sharon. It is simply easier to angry at Sharon than deal with all these emotions bubbling inside her — it is something a woman her age would do.

You make a lot of sense, Mary. Of course you’re right.

Harry Harry Harry, sigh..
Mariah is not real to have all those real life emotions..
She comes from the imagination of a writer and only the writer knows the insight of the character as to how she is creating Mariah ..
You can not analyze a fictional character from your own emotions/the way you feel is how she feels.. lol 🙂

Oh thank you so much, SU00. I did not know Mariah was fictional. Thank you for schooling me on fiction vs. reality as well as the fact that I cannot project my own feelings onto a character.
Now stop me before I lecture you on the nature of mimesis (art reflecting reality).
You also might want to stop me before I quote you back to yourself. Before, for example I say. ‘Su00, please do not analyze a fictional character. Just have fun, fun, fun with it until your daddy takes the T Bird away.’
Sigh. You do try one’s patience.

@suOOO– It is perfectly acceptable for viewers to dwell on and analyze characters motivations even if they are a work of fiction. If you ever attend a book club it done all the time with novels, and it you ever attend a film class, it done with movies too. Everyone is well aware these are fictional characters but one of reasons for artistic creations, besides entertainment is t to engage our emotions, and our brains. Writers want and expect those viewing or reading their works to identify with their characters, to relate to them through their emotions and to try to figure out their motivations. I think this might explain why despite poor plots Y&R still is strong because it is still the soap that focuses more on how the plot effects the characters, not using characters to affect the plot.

Yeah, Mariah is pissed at Sharon but she had no idea she had twins and technically she gave away Cassie only at birth. Sharon should be pissed at Mariah just for gas lighting her and then trying to seduce Nick. Mariah hit the jackpot having Sharon as a mother and her step dad is a half billionaire!

Harry…
you said to me’
”Now stop me before I lecture you on the nature of mimesis (art reflecting reality).”

OK please do lecture me 🙂
I see your nostrils widening lol
Can I bring a bag lunch with me for the/your lecture..
I’m ready- go! 🙂

((however– you can never argue that some get way too overly involved with their soaps and their characters )

Agree 100%

She did a great job.

Camryn Grimes is amazing! Just love her and everyone else in this storyline! Truly Emmy worthy performance by Ms. Grimes.

I became a regular Y&R fan right after Cassie died in the car accident. This is when they started airing it on SoapNet. So I never saw much of her as a young performer. Other young soap actors could take a page from her book and dedicate themselves to working on their craft. She may be a natural, but she is very talented and her years of experience and dedication are apparent too.

Look forward to seeing more from her and Mariah!

Your right, Lilly, Tyler Billy, and Stitch should watch Mariah’s scenes and pick up some pointers on acting.

She’s a good actress but the material she was given was just too flimsy considering the weight of the revelation.

The writers were already undercutting the impact and importance of Cassie’s death (the last great story this show ever had) by employing the ol’ “she had a secret twin” gambit and then they spent a whole 5 minutes on Sharon’s reveal and Mariah’s reaction before moving on the more “important” things like Dummer being totes sad that she might not be number one on Nick’s favorite daughter list and Avery Bailey Clark squabbling with Blue Steel over the ex-husband we’ve never seen. Shorthand writing doesn’t cut it when it’s a revelation of this magnitude (and I’m not even going to get into the ease with which Nick uncovered the entire baby stealing scam in the space of half an episode — oy).

Ray Wise is a fantastic actor but has been severely wasted in this whole bungled Ian Ward story which I loved the first time I saw it…when it was ONE LIFE TO LIVE’s Mitch Laurence who stole a secret ret-conned red headed twin at birth with the help of a shady doctor and years later married her all the while obsessed with the show’s blonde leading lady.

I have faith that Y&R will respect Cassie and that great story. I think Mariah will have a whole revelation about her emptiness with her twin being dead and she will honor and love her sister. Thats the secret to Mariah, dont have her on and bury Cassie’s memory. Secondly, Ray Wise was flushed down the toilet and I’m sure will end up dead. He is a great actor and may have only wanted to be on Y&R for a brief time. He probably has other projects lined up. Plus, dont be surprised if he shows up on GH as a mob boss. Him and Sonny would be gold together!

That might be fun, maybe he could play Fluke’s daddy– whoever that might be.

Im not getting the all of a sudden i despise sharon

I agree. Sharon did nothing wrong.

where is tyler in this whole debacle? i want to see tyler rip into her for all her plotting but then get manipulated by her! tyler was looking hot with her the few times they were together. abby/ tyler/ maraiah/ kevin quadrangle would be great!
I ve been practically begging for months for more tyler, whats up!

Tyler! You have got to be kidding me! He wouldnt get a job in a high school play! He is a terrible actor. He shows no emotion what so ever! Please leave him out of the picture!

Timmm…y-e-s…thank you!!!!! The character of Tyler has clearly run its soap course. To me, any kind of ROBOT would be more WATCHABLE than that walking and talking STIFF Tyler. Yep!!!!!

she is a good actress compared to the other young woman currently on the show.

but as a whole the storyline is so predictable and extremely boring. it started out mysterious and suspenseful with the potential to go in so many directions.

instead it turned out to be boring long-lost twin angle.

kudos to Camryn for turning this into gold.

Hi All….Camryn and Mariah’s storyline are, hands down, the best things about Y&R right now. She’s just fantastic and the promising, nuanced acting she gave us as young Cassie has blossomed to allow her to give us the hard edged and compelling young adult Mariah. I really hope the writers continue to resist a happily ever after scenario with Mariah and the Newmans. I want Mariah’s scheming and attitude to last for a long, long time….

That is a fine line for an actor to dread–making the character bad enough to be interesting, but no so evil as to be despised. MM did that with Adam, no matter what horrible things the writers wrote for the character to do, MM managed to show Adam’s humanity, so we were booing and feeling sorry for the character at the same time. Camryn has the potential of doing the same thing with Mariah, and if she can pull it off, we might be witnessing the birth of the next interesting character to come onto the show since MM’s Adam.

Writing on the black board, ‘I love Mary SF.’

Camryn Grimes has been doing a great job. IMO, bringing her back to Y&R to play Cassie’s twin Mariah has been the best decision of the show’s current regime.

Yeah, this girl is talented. I will give the writers credit with this story. Just be carefull not to step on the great Cassie story from years gone by. Respect how powerful her loss was.

Timmm do you like the idea of them doing a scene where Mariah has a confrontation or conversation with Ghost Cassie? Part of me thinks if they wrote a scene like that well, then CG could really put her acting skills to the test and it would be interesting to see the two characters face one another. Then a part of me thinks if done badly could be silly. What do you think?

I wouldnt mind a ghost scene with Cameron because she is so talented. I think they will do something like this from Sharon’s mind once she loses it again!

She knocked it out of the park this week. Even with a stinker of a storyline. The three of them really carried it. This is the nice thing that soaps can do. She was a great child actress…and then we get to see her again as an adult. Like Kimberly McCullough in the same respect. That’s talent for you.

Good comparison. I think that was one of the problems with Dee Dee’s death. She was such a bright little star. It would have been nice to have that actress grow up into an adult on Y&R.

People hated the Cassie death storyline as well as the BJ storyline on GH when they happened. But in retrospect they drove story for years. You should be shocked and appalled at a child’s death. They are always senseless. As far as the DeeDee storyline, time will only tell.

Y&R is OK but no longer great..

General Hospital;
Anna Devane (Finola Hughes)
Dr. Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati)
Mura West(Ava)
Michelle Stafford(Nina)

They are greats ^^^^^..

— In comparison to Sharon they are phantoms above her talent..
Camryn Grimes (Cassi) is also above Sharon..
GH’s actors are stellar and above all in Y&R .. / fact 🙂

Not a fact opinion 🙂

For me GH actors are as good as Y&R actors the diference for me is that the characters on GH are more caricatures than real characters. With the exception of Anna, who is the only one grounded in some reality the others are too OTT for my taste.

When I watch a show I want to be entertained but I need for there to be able to identify with the character in some way whether they play a villain or hero. I don’t get that with GH.

Camryn Grimes has single-handedly turned this once disappointed viewer back into a Y&R true believer. Camryn’s Mariah has injected energy into this show that was so very needed. I’m not sure if many of us true longterm fans could have accepted an adult version of Cassie. In retrospect, bringing the actress back almost a decade later as the twin was risky but has paid off in ways I didn’t expect possible. It couldn’t have been pulled off without Bill Bell-esque writing and vision from the show runners and a young actress who has matured into quite the powerhouse performer. Great awesome spectacular performance, Camryn! I’m very proud of you. On another note, I’m not a fan of JFP, and I’m still not convinced she’s the best choice for EP, but I will say this show looks and feels more like the Bill Bell era than any other time since 2006. That bar isn’t high, but at least it’s improvement.

wow!
the ”Bill Bell era ”
People were having love-ins and wearing bell bottoms smoking good weed..
The only thing great and lasting from that era is The Doors..

the soaps have evolve into the now.. time has changed the way live and what we want/expect tremendously when it comes to media..

^^^ @su0000 Soaps may evolve but good character driven stories will never go out of style. That os the reason artists have been adapting Shakespeare for more 400 years. Trends like the anti hero, camp or pure plot driven plot twists get old eventually.

Good character driven storytelling will never go out of style. 🙂

hey nicole..
Us now<– lol people don't care about Shakespeare.. what we're into is a whole world from Shakespeare..
GH has very good characters, an awesome variety!! and character are driven in stories every time they are in a story we get great performances from great writing full of all kinds of plots, everyone seems to be in a plot……
GH is the only soap full of suspense, shockers, surprises, and on the edge twist & turn drama / truth ..
I like the bad boys and bad girls!! they are the best !!

that's why we luv GH it's full of everything exciting and and none of it is from Shakespeare. (thanky the soaps gawds 🙂

There is not one, not one soap that is meaningful <—– fact ..
We just enjoy them for what they are 'total wack' .. LOL 🙂

Actually we are not a whole world away from Shakespeare that is my point.

West Side Story
Godfather
House of Cards
Sons of Anarchy

Are all takes on Romeo and Juliet, King Lear, Richatd III and Hamlet respectivley.

The new ABC show Selfie is based on Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw a play well over 100 years old.

Plot driven twists and turns are empty calories they maybe good in the short term but eventually you realize you are better off with out them.:) Which is parially soaps are in the trouble they are in.

I stick with Y&R because it is as close to character driven the genre.

But my point is that good drama will not go out of style and neither will Shakespeare.

I was most impressed with the acting of Joshua, Sharon & Camryn this past week. Looking forward to seeing how this storyline plays out!

As am I think they all did a great job last week. The show is now on my DVR.

CG belongs on a good primetime show, her talents are wasted on the writers of Y&R.

Major kudos to Camryn, Joshua and Sharon for their stellar performances throughout this whole storyline.
Can’t wait for Mariah to want to have Sharon’s back instead of stabbing her in it and it will be great to see the Shick family all come together and have some happiness.

I like Mariah honestly.

I am glad that Camryn Grimes is back on Y&R for good although she is playing someone else besides Cassie.

I think that the actress is probably glad to play a character who is different from her good twin sister Cassie.

I can see Mariah changing over time and accepting Sharon as her mother. I believe that because I watch a similar show called “Finding Carter” on MTV.

‘Brilliant Minds’ Officially Canceled After 2 Seasons at NBC; DAYS Alum Al Calderon, OLTL Alum Teddy Sears and Zachary Quinto Among the Cast

Published

By

After languishing on the bubble for months, on Friday, NBC handed down the decision and canceled the medical drama Brilliant Minds after two seasons.

Brilliant Minds stars Zachary Quinto as neurology physician Oliver Wolf, who’s character and the series is inspired by the life and books of neurologist. Oliver Sacks. The series focuses on the medical mysteries of the mind, as Wolf a larger-than-life neurologist and his team of interns explore the last great frontier, the human mind, while grappling with their own relationships and mental health.

The final six episodes of what will now be the end of its second and final season were already set to air beginning on May 27, after being pulled off the network schedule in February as viewership saw a steep decline. Brilliant Minds second season became the lowest-rated drama on linear TV viewing, which didn’t bode well fo a network renewal, although it had its hard core fan base.

Photo: NBC

There are some exceptional notables in the cast along with the talented Quinto that includes Days of Our Lives alum, Al Calderon (ex-Javi Hernandez) who joined the series in its second season as Nurse Nico Silva, and One Life to Live alum, Teddy Sears (ex-Chad Bennett) who plays Wolf’s love interest and fellow physician, Dr. Josh Nichols.

The rest of the talented cast includes: Tamberla Perry, Ashleigh LaThrop, Alex MacNicoll, Aury Krebs, Spence Moore II, Donna Murphy, John Clarence Stewart, and Brian Altemus.

In an ironic twist of fate on Thursday, April 30, Days of Our Lives finally revealed the actor who was Al Calderon’s successor in the role of Javi, when they announced that actor Jacob Martinez had now stepped into the role. Since DAYS tapes ten months ahead of streaming new episode, Calderon left in the spring of 2025, but will be seen in the part for the final part this month, and then on June 20, Martinez debuts as Salem’s new Javi.

Taking to his Instagram with a sorrowful and heartfelt post on the Brilliant Minds cancellation was Teddy Sears who wrote, “Thank you, Brilliant Minds. I got the call today and I didn’t want to hear, but I knew that it would come, You have to be a particular vintage to quote Don Henley from memory, but that’s the line that came to mind earlier today after I got off the phone with our inimitable showrunner Michael Grassi who delivered the news that NBC has cancelled the series”.

Photo: NBC

Sears continued, “To say that I feel sad to be moving on from these stories, this character, and this cast and crew just doesn’t paint the entire picture. I’m sad, sure. But I’m also deeply grateful that I got hired to play this part, so proud of the stories we told, and the other actors I got to play alongside. I’m excited to see what comes next, what adventures await, and terrified to be without a professional home. A quick and heartfelt thank you to everyone, all over the globe, who found us and found themselves in us, in our characters and in our stories. We wouldn’t have been able to tell them without you. And we still have 6 fresh episodes yet to air, and I do hope you tune in enjoy the remainder of the series. They’re the best we’ve done.”

As he wrapped up his sentiments, Sears signed off with, “The more I know, the less I understand. All the things I figured out I have to learn again. I’ve been trying to get down to the heart of the matter. But everything changes…Thank you, Brilliant Minds.”

The medical drama was created and executive produced by Michael Grassi alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, Lee Toland Krieger, DeMane Davis, Jasmine Russ, Henrik Bastin, Jonathan Cavendish, Andy Serkis and Shefali Malhoutra.

‘General Hospital’s’ Kelly Thiebaud on Britt and Cassius Sibling Drama, But Who Will Ultimately Blow His Cover?

Published

on

By

On the April 30 episode of General Hospital, Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) had some choice words and warning for her brother Cassius Faison (Ryan Paevey) who has been masquerading as his twin, the very dead, Nathan West.

As the story has unfolded, viewers learned that Britt knew all along that when “Nathan” showed up in Port Charles seemingly resurrected with a missing 7 years of his life unexplained, that Cassius was taking his place.

Now in developments on today’s GH, Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) is figuring out that this guy pretending to be Nathan is someone else, and Cassius learns from Britt, that Joss is not just a ditzy sorority girl as he claimed, but a WSB agent! The moment stuns Cassius. Are the walls about to close in on him and his charade?

Courtesy/ABC

Daytime Emmy winner, Kelly Thiebaud spoke to Soap Opera Digest, about the story point and getting the opportunity this time back at GH to work with Ryan Paevey, when she hadn’t had the chance to before.

BROTHERLY LOVE?

Thiebaud expressed on sharing scenes with Ryan Paevey, “It’s just been so wonderful to have him back and to actually work with him! When he first came onto the show (as Nathan at the end of 2013) I was kind of heading out — it was right towards the end of my contract, so we didn’t actually work together a ton. It’s been really refreshing and so much fun to really spend time together and get to know each other and work together. I think we have really great on-camera chemistry and banter with each other. I really enjoy working with him.”

With the stakes at an all-time, Thiebaud explained how she views her on-screen alter-ego’s involvement with her more hot-to-temper sibling and why Britt revealed the truth about Josslyn to him. “People finding out about Cassius would expose what she’s involved in and what she agreed to do,” explains Kelly “And now Josslyn is digging around, and she’s connected to Carly (Laura Wright) to Jason (Steve Burton) and that whole dynamic! It’s messy!”

BRITT’S MURKY FUTURE

Britt has currently also reached her breaking point with Jason being carted away by the WSB, Rocco (Finn Carr), the child she gave birth to, shooting Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) to protect her and Jason, Marco (Adrian Anchondo) being killed after trying to help her, and Cullum holding over her head getting her Huntington’s disease medication to control her symptoms, while blackmailing her into finishing the research on her father, Cesar Faison’s, final project. Thiebaud summed it up best for Britt right now, sharing, “It’s been a really tough time for her.”

So, who do you think will be the person to blow Cassius’ cover? Will it be Britt herself? Josslyn? Liesl? Brennan? Nina? Lulu? Rocco, Maxie, Cullum or someone else? Let us know your pick in the comment section.
