Hot on the heels of top daytime stars, Billy Flynn (Cane Ashby) and Tamara Braun (Sienna Bacall) joining the cast of the number one-rated soap, The Young and the Restless, comes bombshell casting news.

Soap veteran, Emmy-winner, and former General Hospital, One Life to Live and As the World Turns star, Roger Howarth is joining the cast of the CBS daytime drama for what is being touted as a “major story arc” this fall.

According to Deadline, details about what character Howarth will be playing and in what storyline are being kept under wraps. However, Howarth will begin taping in mid-September and will bow on-screen later this in the fall.

This will be the first time Howarth has returned to the CBS television network since his time as Paul Ryan on the beloved As the World Turns. Howarth played Paul from 2003 t0 2010 until the soap was canceled. When soap fans last saw Howarth in 2023, he was killed-off in his third role on General Hospital as Dr. Austin Gatlin-Holt. Previously, he had played the roles of Todd Manning on GH from 2012-2013, and Franco Baldwin from 2013-2020.

When Howarth began his daytime run, he showed up in 1992 on One Life to Live as Todd Manning; a role that made him soap-famous and winning a Daytime Emmy in 1994 in the Outstanding Younger Actor category for his portrayal of the leader of the gang rape of Marty Saybrooke played by two-time Daytime Emmy winner, Susan Haskell.

Roger continued to play Todd until 1995, then returned for another run in 1996-1998, and again from 2000-2003. After ATWT was canceled, he returned to ABC’s One Life one more time from 2011-2012 until that show was canceled also, and reprised the role on the Prospect Park reboot of the series in 2013.

Taking to his Instagram on Thursday after the reveal of the casting news, Howarth shared simply, “Excited and appreciative… I’m a lucky guy…” Now the question becomes, who is Roger playing when he emerges on the Genoa City canvas? Y&R has certainly been bringing over some heavy hitters to their A-list cast. Now, will it infuse the storylines with new energy? Stay tuned.

So, what do you think about Roger Howarth returning to daytime and on The Young and the Restless? Share your thoughts and theories of who he might play and be in story with, via the comment section.

Congratulations to Roger. While I’m happy Roger willl be back on our screens, I am really bummed he’s not returning to General Hospital. I would have absolutely loved to have Roger back as Franco Baldwin. I love and miss FRIZ (Franco and Liz). They were fantastic. I would have preferred Franco return instead of Ric, Britt, Nathan or any of the Faison/Obrecht clan.

GH could’ve brought him back. Good job Y and R. Wonder if he will be a recast Dillon. Steve’s at Y and R. Maybe he will be Paul Ryan. Or a new cop.

Interesting! Now if only Josh Griffith will treat them properly and give Roger Howarth and Tamara Braun storylines worthy of their talents.

Your post to God’s account! I loved Mr. Howarth on ATWT.

So did I.

So excited!! I have followed him on every soap he has performed. Guess I will be watching Y&R now. He is a great and very under appreciated actor.

The Young and the Restless is just adding to its cast at this point. I wonder if this is long-term or short-term. It is a shame Colleen Zenk is not appearing; this could have been a fantastic reunion for them.

This is obviously under the guidance of Jill Farren Phelps. She’s taking over, while Y&R/CBS are trying to pretend she’s not. She’s contentious and loves clapping back at riled up fans. I suppose it can’t get any worse. At least she’ll bring some excitement and action back to this snooze fest.

She’s not taking over. Just like we though when Ed Scott came back, that he would save the show, but he was not the EP, and had no effect, and left a few months ago. Griffith has destroyed the show, clearly doesn’t know how to write good drama. JFP will likely have the same effect, which is none. Stories don’t conclude, they just vanish. Take Traci with Alan or Martin drama that just went away. No resolutions. Funerals we never saw. Actors not crying over murdered characters. It’s just so bad.

Love me some Roger!!! Ronan?? Dylan?? Somebody new??
Roger and Tamara (Sienna Bacall) could be a very intriguing pairing…
Looking forward to some fun, mystery, romance – hopefully all of the corporate “dining” episodes will be fewer and fewer with some more excitement, and these Soap vets are a hopeful sign of good things to come (fingers crossed)

Roger Howarth is seriously the best daytime actor ever! I’m thrilled for this great news and hope he will be around for years to come! Great casting call Y&R!

Y&R doesn’t air down here in Hell, but best of luck to him. At least this should put an end to rumors that he would be coming back to GH for a 4th character!

Love him

So another new over 40 character most likely going to endlessly talk corporate business blah blah blah at a coffee shop or a park bench? Where are the YOUNG to balance the restless and boring? No teen/early 20’s characters to be seen. He’s a good actor but they need some balance.

The writing will never match his talent

Isn’t it obvious? This is some major stunt casting. He is going to be Tucker McCall. After all Roger and Trevor St John have played the same character before.

Congrats to Mr. Howarth. I’m happy for him. He is underrated and it’s a shame he isn’t offered more jobs. I have never watched Y&R but with him going over there I am tempted. I wish him the best.

Great news.I am thrilled for Roger.I’m glad the young and the restless scooped him up.It’s general hospital’s loss.I will be watching young and the restless again

Howarth was actually on Loving and Guiding Light before he joined One Life To Live as Todd.

Josh in the words of Judge Judy don’t pee on my leg and tell me it’s raining. You are a mess the show is a mess and no matter who you bring on and tell everyone that it’s going to be exciting it’s nothing .

Fantastic!

I miss him on GH as Franco, and Tamara as Kim, good for YR, maybe I’ll take a peak when they join and start airing, and catch a glimpse of “Nina” or Phylis as she’s know on that show. just to see how their doing, oh, yeah and see if I also see Patrick Drake.

The writing will nowhere match his talent. And I am sure some of the other cast are taking MAJOR pay cuts for them adding Billy, Tamra, now Roger! This will be the equivalent of when they hired Maura West. They had daytime GOLD and they misfired and cast her as Diane. One of the biggest fumbles in Y&R history.

Michael, do you think he’s playing Tucker or Dylan? I remember he worked really well with Michelle Stafford on GH, so I wouldn’t mind them together.
