Y&R’s Christel Khaill Opens Up on Billy Flynn and Cane Recast, “It Doesn’t Feel like We’re Trying to Have Someone Step in Daniel Goddard’s Shoes”
As the action picked up today on The Young and Restless, Lily (Christel Khalil) was still reeling from the fact that she, and many others in the French Riviera, were waiting for Billionaire businessman, Aristotle Dumas, only to find out Dumas is actually be Lily’s ex-husband and the father of her children, Mattie and Charlie, Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn).
Behind the scenes when Billy Flynn decided to head to The Young and the Restless after 11 years as Days of our Lives as Chad DiMera, it seems he may have been a bit in the dark until Y&R executive producer and head writer, Josh Griffith filled him in that he would actually be playing Cane Ashby, previously played by Daniel Goddard.
Now in a new interview with TV Insider, Christel Khalil, revealed she too was in the dark until just a few weeks before taping scenes with Flynn. “I didn’t realize they were bringing Cane back until a week or two before he started,” recalled the actress. “I was super excited; it was such a great character, and it was a shame to not have the character there.”

As for fans and the future of the couple known as “Lane,” Khalil added, “I feel like the story is very compelling, and I think if fans can look at it with a new lens, they’ll really like it. I think the good thing that Josh has done is he’s completely changed the character of Cane.”
While Daniel Goddard is now over at General Hospital as Professor Henry Dalton, he previously had a long run as Lily’s love interest from 2007-2019, before being written off the canvas. With Billy Flynn taking on the role now and Josh Griffith’s sort of reboot of the character, Khalil shared she has no reservation on its direction, explaining, “It doesn’t feel like we’re trying to have someone step in Daniel Goddard’s shoes. It’s pretty much an entirely new character, so it’s been interesting to have scenes because we have the history there, but it’s a little bit different. They’ve also added in flashbacks that Lily has of interactions that she and Cane have had in the past, five or six years (since he’s been gone). So, it’s almost a little bit of a new relationship again, in a way.”

As for Billy Flynn in the role, “At the end of the day, it’s not going to be the same Cane. It’s a completely different person, and I really hope that everybody gives Billy a chance and tries to look at the character through new eyes, because it is a new person, and honestly, it’s a new character. He’s nothing like Daniel Goddard, and that’s kind of the point. The point was to make this character something completely different. And so hopefully people give it a chance and look at it like a new relationship rather than like an old one coming back.”

I am definitely in to giving Billy Flynn a chance he has always been great in Days! Josh Griffith can be very hit or miss with his writing so time will tell and as far as Daniel Goddard is concerned the last couple years of his run was such a bust I could have cared less
Can’t even remember Goddard’s last years. Yes, couldn’t care less.
She keeps pushing that it’s like a new character, as though that’s a good thing. Either it’s an old character returned or it’s brand new, you can’t have it both ways.
Reminds me of when people try to get back together with an ex and pretend the first relationship didn’t happen. Sorry, but no. You can’t just erase history – no matttr how much Josh Griffiths tries.
Revisionist history goes against everything soaps stand for. The whole point of having a long history is to honor and respect it, and thus the audience, the vets, and the whole platform.
uh, he lost his accent and had plastic surgery and shrunk 6 inches? Okay……..
In addition to that, he’s a good decade or more younger than he was when he left – just like Tucker McCall. I’ve christened this trend SOBBS (Soap Opera Benjamin Button Syndrome).
If we are to look at him as a new character, then why on earth didn’t Josh just create a new character, it would have made more sense, then do a drastic redo of Cane.
The only thing that might save this at this point is if there’s another twist coming later on. Perhaps this isn’t really Cane, but someone who Colin has planted to impersonate his son, and that Colin isn’t really dead. I know it’s been done before, but so far I am having a hard time believing this guy is Cane.
And whether he is Cane or not, why is he being played like a robot. Am I the only one annoyed that the character has the same look on his face in all his scenes so far?- He was seeing the love of his life for the first time in years and he had the same look on his face as when he telling his manservant to get the guests ready, which is the same look he had talking business with Victor. It feels odd.
Nice to see you back making a post you are right on. This won’t go anywhere that’s why I have not tuned in yet JG does the same thing over and over expecting a different result . Billy Flynn should have called Maura West as I mentioned last week she probably would have said stay where you are.

Soap viewers put up with outrageous storylines, convoluted timelines, and children aging magically overnight. We begrudgingly accept these most of the time.
What we do not appreciate, is being treated as dumb or stupid. This train is headed in that direction.

Christel Khalil is one of the few bright spots on Y&R. She deserves a good story, heck all of the actors do. Sadly, based on Griffith’s past disappointments, I feel this story will go absolutely nowhere.

‘General Hospital’s’ Josh Swickard Stars in Faith-Based ‘The Space Between Us’ as The Man Who Has an Affair with a Married Woman
While General Hospital’s Harrison Chase’s (Josh Swickard) marriage to Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton) has seemingly come to an end based on trust issues, and his unrelenting believe of the innocence of his ex-wife Willow Cain (Katelyn MacMullen) when she has committed heinous crimes, Josh Swickard is also being featured in another story on another platform in the new faith-based movie, The Space Between Us.
In the streaming feature now on the Angel platform, Swickard is playing Levi Boone, a handsome young solider, who finds himself attracted to a married woman played by Jennifer Taylor. The two have an affair. The movie made it’s debut last week on October 8.
According to the loglines, “The Space Between Us dives deep into modern relationships, following marriages straining under the heavy weight of busyness, unmet expectations, and spiritual disconnection. Described as a story of grace in the mess, the film takes a grounded, deeply relatable look at how even the best intentions can fall apart—and how faith, strong community, and honest vulnerability can bring true healing.”

In a cast interview, which features Swickard, Taylor and Kristoffer Poloha, the trio discussed their thoughts on betrayal in marriage, and who’s right and who’s wrong and more.
Josh Swickard explains, “The audience can get it from a lot of sides too where we can show it, and if you have crossed that line in your marriage. it doesn’t have to be over. And when two people are willing to work, anything’s possible. Not giving the end away. I’m just saying. It could happen. It could happen. People can end up together.”
Meanwhile, Kristoffer Poloha added, “Like, wait a minute, but this other guy steps in and I think passion takes over. I think what you see is how easy it is to stumble. Whether it’s adultery or whether it’s another type of sin, you can basically burn your house down in many different ways and how quickly it is to light that fire.”
The Space Between Us is from Canyon Productions. The company delivers faiith-based media designed to encourage, inspire, and uplift viewers along their spiritual journeys. By showcasing the genuine struggles and eventual triumphs of relatable characters facing tough real-world challenges, Canyon aims to create projects that point audiences directly toward hope and perseverance.

It’s the soap opera wedding of the season, and now The Young and the Restless Daytime Emmy-winning stars, Jason Thompson (Billy Abbott) and Courtney Hope (Sally Spectra), will visit the Michael Fairman Channel during Billy and Sally’s wedding week to discuss the nuptials and its aftermath.

Speaking with TV Insider ahead of the wedding episodes, which kick-off tomorrow on the Friday, October 16 episode of the top-rated soap opera and continue on to next week on the Monday, October 19 episode, Jason Thompson teased, “Our wedding really is a really beautiful accumulation of all the things that we love about this job and that the audience loves about soaps.”
Thompson also added what fans of the soap are about to see, “Being in the business long enough, those are things you’re like, ‘Oh, damn!’ It’s not a one-day event. This continues on, and it changes story.”
Courtney Hope explained, “Standing at the altar came with its own set of emotions. I was nervous because I’ve been to a lot of weddings over the years and seen so many people get up there and say their vows. I knew it would be great, but I wanted to do it justice. I wanted to make Sally’s history proud.”

Congratulations are in order for three-time Emmy winner, Tom Pelphrey (ex-GL and ATWT) and his fiancée Big Bang Theory star, Kaley Cuoco! The couple welcomed their second baby daughter together on October 12, and revealed they named the little bundle of joy, Philomena Carmine Bobby Pelphrey.
Tom and Kaley shared the news via their Instagram accounts on Wednesday with some adorable baby pics. Cuoco captioned the photo“🎀Philomena Carmine Bobby Pelphrey🎀. 💖10/12/26💖. There are no words to describe this feeling once again. What a blessing.
Cuoco added, “We are so grateful for the crazy wild up and down journey that brought us to our little Philo! Family officially complete 😭Time to bring Matilda’s baby home! 😂💕”

Next, Kaley shared her love for the father of her children, exclaiming, “Tom Pelphrey, life exploded the minute we met, and the gifts keep coming. I love you forever , girl daddy! 💘.”
Philomena now joins big sister, Matilda mwho was born in 2023, as part of the Pelphrey/Cuoco family! Tom and Kaley began dating in 2022 and became engaged in 2024.
Daytime fans first saw the talented actor on Guiding Light as Jonathan Randall, the son of Reva Shayne (Kim Zimmer). Tom won two Daytime Emmys for his memorable performances during his run from 2004-2009.
He later played Mick Dante on As the World Turns from 2009-2010, before heading to work in primetime and motion pictures. Last month, Pelphrey one the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role in HBO’s Task.
TOM PELPHREY CELEBRATES EMMY WIN AND NEW DAUGHTER WITHIN A MONTH OF EACH OTHER
After winning his Emmy, the expectant dad told E! News, “We’re both so excited. Our daughter’s excited. We’ll see how it goes when it actually gets there.” Tom added, “The things that are new and the things that feel like not a big deal this time. But mom and baby are healthy, so God willing, that keeps up, and we’re thrilled,” added the actor.
Pelphrey took to his own Instagram and said on the birth of his second daughter, “Philomena Carmine Bobby Pelphrey. Another miracle. Welcome to our family youngest queen! Kaley you showed up in every way as a partner and a mom even when you weren’t feeling your best- you’re a CHAMPION. The girls and I would be lost without you. Thank God for the gift of this family and these girls.”
