Y&R’s Jason Thompson on His Birthday Reflects on Journey as Billy Abbott, “I’m Honored to Keep Unraveling a Life on the Small Screen.”
Daytime Emmy winner, Jason Thompson is celebrating his birthday this week having turned 49 back on Thursday, November 20th. Since 2016, Thompson has played the impulsive and complex, Billy Abbott on The Young and the Restless. Jason came to Y&R after a successful run as Dr. Patrick Drake on General Hospital, a part he played on-screen from 2005 until early 2016.
Taking to his Instagram account on November 21, to acknowledge another year around the sun, Thompson also shared his gratitude and thoughts on his Genoa City alter ego, and those who have helped shape his journey along the way.
Jason began, “Yesterday marked my 49th birthday and the start of my 50th year. I’ve always had a little PTSD around my career and acting — how fleeting it can be, how quickly things change — and because of that, I’ve always hoped I’d be working on my birthday. And yesterday, I was. Surrounded by incredible people I consider friends. Collaborators of the highest level, telling stories that have been unfolding for longer than I’ve been alive.”

Speaking on the opportunity to continue to be part of Y&R’s iconic Abbott clan and inhabiting a role that brought him his first Daytime Emmy win as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Daytime Drama Series back in 2020, Jason expressed, “I’m grateful. I’m excited to start a new year. And I’m honored to keep unraveling a life on the small screen.”
Then, giving kudos to his fictional character, “Billy Boy” which is so often the name Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) calls Billy Abbott, Thompson added, “To my partner in this alternate life, a character I am stoked to embody everyday I step on set-Billy Abbott, and to the entire Y&R cast and crew, producing team, the studios, and the networks in every country that airs our show — THE FANS-thank you for allowing me to be a part of this remarkable, ongoing history.”
Thompson became the sixth Billy Abbott in the CBS daytime drama series history having followed in the footsteps of: Daytime Emmy winner, David Tom (1999-2002, 2014), Ryan Brown (2002-2003) , Scott Seymour (2006), three-time Daytime Emmy winner, the late Billy Miller (2008-2014) and Burgess Jenkins (2014-2016).
Several of Jason’s GH and Y&R co-stars, past and present jumped into his birthday thread offering birthday wishes including: GH’s Rory Gibson, Maurice Benard, Kimberly McCullough and Finola Hughes. Y&R’s Beth Maitland, Tracey Bregman, Melissa Claire Egan and Zulekya Silver, plus B&B’s Rebecca Budig and more.

Susan said, “It’s definitely like coming home in a way, even though it’s not the same studio. It’s really lovely to see old faces and old faces with new faces. It takes you back mentally. You start remembering what it was like back then, even things like how much your feet would ache at the end of the day from wearing six-inch heels. It was just lovely to be back and see everybody.”

THE 411 ON TIA AND KALISTA
Speaking with TV Insider, about their soapy experience in Fairmont Crest, Tabitha Brown previewed about her host with the most, “Tia is very professional, but she’s a girl’s girl. She is a protector of women and wants to tell their stories in a beautiful way, but she also wants to make sure they’re seen in a very good light.”
However, Burruss previews that Kalista arrives with a score to settle. “She’s spicy,” shared the recording artist. “I always love playing somebody that has come to start trouble. It’s always fun to play a villain of sorts, but Kalista feels like she’s been done wrong and she’s hurt by what she feels has been done to her. So Kalista is stirring up trouble, but she feels justified putting Dani on blast. Kalista is ready for some payback.”
Beyond the Gates is produced by CBS Studios, as part of the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture, in partnership with P&G Studios, a division of Procter & Gamble. Created by head writer Michele Val Jean, executive producers include Val Jean, Sheila Ducksworth, Julie Carruthers, Tracey Thomson, Leon W. Russell, Derrick Johnson, Anna Saalfeld and Lela Coffey.
