The Young and the Restless Jeanne Cooper Picks Her Favorite Scenes Of All-Time!

In honor of next week’s 40th anniversary of the number one soap, The Young and the Restless, Jeanne Cooper spoke exclusively to EW.com and chose her favorite Katherine Chancellor moments over the 40 years of drama in the town of Genoa City!

But first, Cooper shared how she first came on the show playing a very drunk Mrs C!:  “I was introduced as a dead drunk and went to a beauty salon dragging my fur coat on the floor like Tallulah Bankhead. I dropped my fur coat and said to Jill, ‘Would you please pick that up for me.?’ It was all ad lib, but they liked it. My character was drunk for two or three years. It became a good storyline. Everywhere I go, people say, ‘Mrs. Chancellor! Thank you!’ People come up to shake my hand and all of a sudden there is a sobriety chip in my hand. I called AA about this and they said ‘Jeanne, if your character’s story made them sober and keeps them sober, then yes, keep the chip. Don’t offer it back. That’s their way of saying thank you.’ I did the same thing with cosmetic surgery. People thanked because it gave them the courage.”

Cooper then selected the following as her favorite on-screen moments 1) Katherine’s face-lift 2) A key scene when Jeanne played both Katherine and Marge 3) An epic catfight between Katherine and Jill circa 1988 4) Katherine in an emotional moment on John Abbott’s deathbed 5)  The 2009 wedding cake catfight between Katherine and Jill

Make sure to watch all the clips at EW.com, and then let us know which of the five was your favorite, and if you have an additional favorite Katherine moment over the 40 years of Y&R history!

How could you possibly just pick one? Katherine Chancellor has been one of the best characters on the show- but for me, what I love about the character is she isn’t a one note wonder– and JC plays all of Katherine’s mood’s to perfection- from the highly dramatic to the downright wacky. But if I had to pick one scene it would be the epic cat fight scene between her and Jill– it doesn’t get much better than that in soap land.

Those were great moments. I will become a fan of the show again if their is a turnaround. I still have hope, and and like Bob Hope would say Ms. Cooper ‘Thanks for the memories!’

Yes she has a star- she got it in 1993, and if you are in Hollywood you can find it at 1777 Vine Street.

Love the fight with her and Jill, but the scene of her talking to John on his deathbed should have been submitted for an Academy Award. She is beyond brilliant in this scene. Utterly captivating to listen to her and to see her go through so many emotions and make you absolutely FEEL them. She is an unstoppable force and so extremely talented. Jeanne Cooper is magnificent.

Speaking of scenes, I miss Katherine’s scenes with her son Tucker. I was really starting to enjoy the mother and son dynamics. Then they took him off the show, 🙁

Jeanne is so talented. How nice it is to see actors of all ages on a soap. It makes for great balance.

I have given up on soaps…was raised with them! But this one…Y and R…holds me! I am not sure what is going on, but please keep it for us old timers!! And please keep as many of the familiar faces as you can. I love Kay Chancellor, and am sending my prayers for Jeanne Cooper every time I think of her! What a strong vital force she is and has been, from day one!

Days Of Our Lives

DAYS Jackée Harry Joins Freeform Comedy Pilot ‘Everything’s Trash’ in Recurring Role

Jackée Harry is one busy actress in Hollywood!  On the heels of learning that Harry has signed on more full-time on Days of our Lives in her role as Paulina, comes this bit of casting news.

Harry will join the cast of the Freeform comedy pilot, Everything’s Trash along with another notable actor, George Wallace.  Both will have recurring roles in the show should it go to series.

In story, Everything’s Trash follows Phoebe (Phoebe Robinson), a 30-something podcast star navigating her messy life. When her younger brother Jayden emerges as a leading politician, she’s forced to grow up, so she relies on her friends and close-knit family to help her figure out adulthood, since she doesn’t seem to have a clue. The series is inspired by Robinson’s book, “Everything’s Trash But It’s Okay.”

According to Variety, “Harry will star as Zora, Phoebe and Jayden’s mother. She and her husband are mid-Western transplants, but they have made a home in NY . They love and support their children equally, but truth be known, Zora acts (and dresses) younger than she is and straddles the line between “I’m my daughter’s mother” and “I’m my daughter’s best friend.”  Meanwhile, Wallace will play the role of Abraham, Phoebe and Jayden’s father and husband to Zora.

So, looking forward to hopefully seeing Jackée on a half-comedy sitcom at night, and doing her role on Days of our Lives? Comment below.

GH’s Rebecca Herbst Thanks Fans for the Birthday Love

She is not often on social media, but when she does show up, it delights so many of her enduring fans. General Hospital’s Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth), who yesterday celebrated her birthday on May 12th, took to Twitter to share warm ‘thank you’s’ to a few fan factions who sent her some lovely gifts in honor and support of their favorite soap star.

Herbst expressed: “Yesterday was such a beautiful day! THANK YOU for all your sweet Birthday messages! #Friz & #Liason showered me with the most gorgeous flowers, cakes & goodies. And #Friz donated $2500 to #SmileTrain.  I felt very loved. I’m so grateful for each & every one of you. …XO”

Of course, the Friz fans loved Liz with Franco (Roger Howarth) and the Liason fans are those who love Liz with Jason (Steve Burton).

Now with Roger Howarth returning to the show – in what is at this juncture still a mystery as who he will play – will Rebecca be paired with Roger in story again, or not this time?  Do you think Liz might end up romantically with Finn (Michael Easton), or is there still a chance that down the line Liz and Jason could get back together, or could Liz meet someone new? Only time will tell!

For now, Herbst was thankful for the money donated to the Smile Train charity and all the wonderful gifts and messages that came her way.

So, what did you think of Becky’s thank you message?  Who are you hoping Liz winds up with romantically in the future?  Share your thoughts in the comment section.

Oprah Winfrey Helps Ellen DeGeneres Process Ending Her Talk Show & Tells Her She is ‘Proud’ of Her for Following Her Instincts

Oprah Winfrey was the once reigning queen of the daytime talk show, and that mantled was then passed on to Ellen DeGeneres, although their shows were at times, very different.

With the announcement by DeGeneres that she is ending her talk show after its 19th season which will run from fall 2021-into spring 2022, who else should be her first guest but the mighty Oprah who knows a thing or two about ending an enduring talk show.   Winfrey appeared virtually and praised Ellen for knowing it was time to call it quits and reflected on the ending of the Oprah Winfrey Show back in 2011.

Oprah expressed: “It’s almost 10 years ago …will be next week.  10 years ago when I was in this exact position. I know what those feelings are. I also know the feelings leading up to it. So hearing you say, and announcing to the world that it was your instinct, and that you thought long and hard about it … because anybody would know that for something that is as powerful as the show is in other people’s lives, that you would not take that lightly. And that coming to the realization that, ‘Now it is time,’ is a process.”

Ellen shared that her decision was about wanting to have, and do, and fulfill other creative outlets for herself.  When Oprah asked Ellen how she was feeling since she made the announcement and uttered the words, ‘the show is ending after its 19th season.’ Ellen responded:  “I didn’t rehearse the monologue. I knew what I was going to say, but the words hadn’t come out of my mouth. So I was okay until I started talking and it became real. Obviously, I got emotional because it’s real now. But I’m feeling good.  I feel like it’s the right thing to do, but I’m charged. It’s a weird thing to announce that I’m stopping.”   Winfrey then said, “I’m proud of you for trusting your instinct because I know that there has to be — as there was in the case for me — a lot of people around you that want to keep that train moving, who want to keep going.”

Winfrey said it was important that Ellen gave her staffers a one-year heads up, since so many of the people who work on the show built their financial and emotional and professional lives around it – and by giving everyone a year, it helps those that have worked on the show time to process and to figure out their next chapter, as well.

You can watch the entire conversation below.

Then let us know, do you think Oprah offered up great words of wisdom to Ellen? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
