2023 is going to be a big year for the soaps with some huge milestone celebrations on the horizon, one of which is for Y&R’s 50th anniversary.

The iconic CBS soap opera turns the big 5-0 on March 26, 2023, but until then, the network and the daytime drama series have plenty in store for viewers for its special landmark season.

The 50th season of Y&R begins on Friday, September 30th and with it will come a new commemorate logo to honor the milestone.

In addition, the season will be building off classic storylines with return appearances of fan favorites, and more intrigue and family drama for the iconic characters of Genoa City.

And what has many very curious, is a the announcement of a a special crossover episode with its sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful to air on Monday, September 26th.

Many are hoping this means that Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) will somehow return to Genoa City … or that perhaps, Lauren Fenmore Baldwin (Tracey E. Bregman) might wind up in Los Angeles and see Sheila in the flesh!

The rest of the CBS daytime line-up including: The Bold and the Beautiful, Let’s Make a Deal and The Price is Right has their season premieres this month as well which include: Drew Carey’s 15th season as host of TPIR, and B&B about to celebrate its 9,000 episode milestone in the spring of 2023.

So, looking forward to what’s in store on Y&R as it turns 50? What do you think the crossover episode between B&B and the top-rated soap will feature in story? Which Y&R fan favorites do you hope return for the 5oth anniversary celebration? Share your thoughts below.

It’d be even more fun with ATWT and GL still in the mix. Just saying!

Can we get off the 13 years ago Train ??.?

Make no mistake: if anyone still wanted to watch, and were watching, those soaps, they’d still be on the air.

Make no mistake: if they were being written in a compelling way and were well-produced, people would still have been watching them, and they’d have never gone off the air in the first place.

I just miss the full afternoon of daytime drama. I am thrilled to see the Y&R anniversary. It’s very special. Just wish the genre got some respect as it once did.

CBS get rid of Josh Griffth! He’s awful and bring back Gina T she is missed badly

No she’s not 😛

Now if they would only update their horribly stale and outdated opening graphics. I swear, some of those actors don’t even look like that anymore.

Can’t wait. Make it memorable Josh! Don’t screw up

Sorry but unless it’s a new HW incharge you ‘re about to be very disappointed

I totally agree Damien…BTW, I hope you been well.

Yes
Thanks Kevin!
Yourself?!

Hi Damien, I continue to hang in there, THANKS…BTW, it’s good to hear from you…

Ik I’m having the same thought. I’m trying to hold out hope that JG will actually do something good with this show for the 50tg season but his last attempt on trying to bringing something intriguing to the show hasn’t work and has always fallen flat so I don’t know. I have a huge letter ready to send to cbs requesting them to find a new head writer listing my reasons but I’ll wait a while and see how the show goes if it’s still flat and boring in sending my letter.

I’d love to know who the returning fan favorites are. Sometimes TPTB’s idea of a “fan favorite” is . . . rather different from the actual fans’ idea.

It will probably be someone like Daniel when I’d actually like it to be Cane!!!

Ashleigh
I couldn’t stand Cane with Lily, especially right after Daniel.Let him stay down under.

For a commemorative logo, the design is uninspired and aesthetically unbalanced. Would be much more successful losing the “50” and rendering the more iconic “Y&R” in gold. Two problems solved.

I whole heartedly agree. One would think they would make the logo extra special considering it is half a century. There’s nothing special about simply adding a 5 and a 0 to the existing logo. *Sigh*

Thanks for the validation.

I totally agree it’s such lazy work. Actually show that you Care about the show it’s bad enough JG storylines speak to the kind of bad writer that he is the least he can do is put some more effort in the logo.

Add my name to the “I agree” with your assessment!

I totally agree. Then putting the number 50 beside the Y&R symbol was just lazy work 2nd grader can spice that logo up better like come on. What they should have done was either make the change the red writing to Gold, or change the background colour from white to Gold, and leave the Red Y&R symbol up to stand out better. And if they wanted to write the number 50 somewhere they can.

The amount of effort they put into the ‘new’ logo shows what the network thinks of the show.

Ikr. Adding 50 beside the logo really!! That’s like the first easiest choice anyone that wouldn’t want to go the extra mile would think of doing like come. These producers and writers don’t act like they care about the show all that much. Not the way William j bell and Kay Alden did.

The show will never be what it once was.because Bill Bell was the best.

How about a new head writer!

Exactly
The only thing real y n r viewers want to celebrate is a new head writer! If you can even call the current situation a ‘ head’ writer! I wouldn’t put Josh Griffith in charge of writing the contents of a toilet paper package. Funny enough the crap he writes is like he scripted it on a toilet seat. It’s so unwatchable not only should he be fired but whoever’s responsible for keeping him employed.
I can’t believe further since y n r clearly is not caring about the view ers complaints that none of the actors have thrown shade or called him out! I mean is Sharon Case or Michelle Stafford really enjoying the sad material they ve been given these past few years! ?

The CBS machine functions on all eight cylinders and as long as Y&R stays on top and makes them money, they dont care about the stories that are being told. Its either rinse and repeat with the same five couples or they bloat the cast with characters we dont care about. GH gets heat because of their reputation for reviving dead characters but at least it brings fan favorites back on the show and their reveals are filled with drama! ONE thing I will say positive about Y&R is the girl who plays Ali is doing a great job and she brings some youth and life into the Abbott household. I love how Jack beams every time he talks with her and Ali and Tracy’s relationship is fantastic!

I like Ali too but I find her character is to well adjusted along with faith, Moses, Noah, Tessa and Mariah they all need to be stirring the pot a little more. Everyone is too happy and go lucky with there life and marriages there needs to be more mess, foam, soapiness.

Well to tell you the truth Josh Griffith writing is toilet paper material. Lol
I was wondering the same thing because Sharon has no storyline now all she does is talk to customers at her coffee shop. Phyliss and Diane are suppose to be rivals but I don’t see any rival activity really happening like the olden days, it’s like JG is scared of drama he runs away from it. He teases fans to make them get all worked up and then there’s nothing. Like WTH.

I’m down for a new head writer any day for this show. I have a three paragraph letter which I will be sending to CBS and sonny pretty soon requesting just that. Maybe if more fans did the same maybe we could get results. It’s been done in the past.

The crossover better be Sheila x Lauren or people are gonna be pissed !

The show has been pretty good again when Diane returned but it all fell apart when they stupidly tossed Ashland in the bin. And the sanctimunious Newmans are getting really hard to watch, JG should find new writers pets.

No he needs to leave. ASAP

This logo is nothing special. And I guess I’m in a minority when I say I have no desire to see Sheila Carter for any reason. She’s not a “fun” villain to me…she’s pure evil with no redeeming qualities. Now, some characters I would like to see make appearances could include Cane Ashby, Avery Clark, Daniel Romalotti, Fen Baldwin, Patty Williams (and Paul for that matter), Christine, that sexy teacher Colleen liked (Adrian Korbell), Amber…

Soaphound, I have never enjoyed Sheila Carter. Like you say she’s not a “ fun “villain.” I don’t get the collective fan fascination with her. She’s one-note, redundant and monotonous. There are fascinating and complex villains out there. For me, Sheila ain’t it.

For the LOVE…. Y&R neds to put classic episodes on SOME streaming format, youtube… SOMETHING. B&B has it’s first several years on youtube, and Y&R has nothing. Nada.

OMG, enough of Sheila Carter, already. Don’t we get enough of her crap in L.A.? We have enough mayhem in G.C with Phyllis, Nicki and Diane.

My points exactly, Violet. Whenever I hear rumors of Sheila returning, I respond the same way I do to those telephone charities: “No thanks. I gave already. “

Oh, Lord!! Not Sheila again—woe be me to endure the pain—Basta!! It’s the never-ending- story of both she(ila) and not-so-maiden in distress any more, Lauren…..As the stomach churns.
Another “no way no how?”. Nick and Sally as one. WOW—they’re sure keeping it in the family. Interchangeably yucky.

Glad you’re in the same camp, Celia. Every time Sally and Nick start cooing at each other, I just find myself involuntarily groaning, “Oh hell, no!” And when is dear Sharon gonna be free of those aprons and coffee pots? When she starts doling out homilies, her face gets this beatific grin like she’s just seen the Virgin Mary. And Bernadette she ain’t.

Soaphound
I can not believe what you said about Sharon. The other day, who was she with? Nick or Sally and she got this look on her face and here I am talking to the TV, asking her what the hell her problem was. Was she seeing visions or whatever, she really was acting like she was in la la land. You sure are right, she needs a life, especially now that she and Adam aren’t so close anymore. I always thought she’d be back with Nick eventually, but now that Sally is in the wings, that idea is no longer a good one. I figure the new guy coming to town will be an interest unless he’s her ex that went into witness protection.

My wish is that TPTB give ,”The Young and the Restless”, it’s proper due as an iconic, game-changing, daytime drama.

Again, Y&R is no longer Y&R, I quit watching a long time ago…TPTB don’t care…very very sad…

Kevin C
Not to be rude but if you no longer watch, why are you in this discussion and what do you even care what’s going on?

Hello Violet Lemm, not to be rude but YES it sounds like you are being rude…that is why I rarely make comments…One can hope that TPTB will care one day and make changes where Y&R will be watchable again…THAT is WHY I CARE…ENJOY your week…

I’ve been where you are, Kevin. There are times (like the past six months) when I swear I’m quitting the show. Then they’ll throw us a bone by giving Traci or Kevin a scene and I get suckered back in. If we didn’t love the show, we’d ignore it. We want it to be better and we can offer suggestions here, like more equitable use of characters and less repetitive stories (Adam burned by Victor AGAIN). I think we might be coming out of this trough soon, I can feel it. Just wish Diane were gone! So…don’t give up completely yet.

THANKS so much Soaphound…I tune it from time to time to see if it’s watchable and just hoping…I also wish they would return back to the classic background music…I really miss Sally Sussman for she is such a kind person and really cared about Y&R and cared about the viewers and their concerns.

I think all the fans who aren’t enjoying JG writing should all send letter into either cbs, Sony or bell dramatic serial company to complain and ask for a new head writer. Apparently it has been done in the past with other writers on the show so maybe it can still be done again if more people do it.

Just wondering if y and r is changing the opening? It’s been tge same for the last 5 or 6 years?

They shot a new opening last month; it’ll probably debut by the end of 2022/beginning of 2023.

Talking about anniversaries my comment is a little off topic. But in a way not because of how we value our own soap dynasties. I was glued to CNN from early morning, afternoon to night yesterday to see the passing of Queen Elizabeth. Whether she was our Queen didn’t matter to me…there was still something about her 70 yr reign and personality that touched me deeply, was moving and impressive. And showed even her she had family issues over the years. May she RIP. And if all goes well, from a comment she made, she thinks will see her family again…somewhere.

I have been watching the Young and the Restless since I was 12 years old and I would love to see return is Michael Daimien aka Danny Romalotti and Patty Weaver aka Gina Roma and do one of the iconic concerts that were performed. One last thing, I would like to see the Colonade Room come back. I lot of great Genoa City events were held there.

I want to see to a brand new intro of the cbs the young and the restless for the 50th with all of the cast members and recurring cast members happy anniversary young and the restless

How about Gina Tongoni back as Phyllis’ sister Avery Bailey Clark. She and Nick were once hot until she left him at the altar. That would blow Phyllis’ skirt up a bit. She will need a new nemesis post-Diane Jenkins.

Is the opening to y and r going to be the same or will they soon change their logo?

They shot it when they did the 50th anniversary shoot.

Y&R should have a new opening to celebrate 50 years.

They shot it when they did the 50th anniversary shoot.

‘General Hospital’s’ Dominic Zamprogna Shares He Was ‘Happy to Hear’ of The Triangle Storyline Developing Between Dante/Elizabeth/Ric

Published

By

Dominic Zamprogna

General Hospital’s Dominic Zamprogna (Dante Falconeri) opened up about the burgeoning love triangle forming between his Port Charles alter-go, Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) and Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) after recently aired scenes, plus his hopes for the future of a Dante and Liz pairing, during his appearance on the Sunday, April 23 edition of the That’s Awesome podcast with Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli).

On last week’s episodes of GH, Ric has made the decision that he wanted to propose to his ex-wife, only when he showed up at Elizabeth’s front door, he misread the scenario he walked in with Liz tending to Dante’s injured leg from the softball game. From there, the legal eagle’s jealous streak is reemerging which may cause him to act out and do something unforgivable, or will he take the high road? Stay tuned.

Speaking with Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson about where Elizabeth stands in the annals of the long-running soap, Zamprogna said, “She’s up there with Steve and Maurice (Maurice Benard) as one of the most legacy-filled people on the show.”

HOW DANTE AND ELIZABETH CAME ABOUT

Dominic jokes it’s a far cry for where Dante and Elizabeth previously, recalling, “We had some scenes together years ago and we were both laughing. Becky’s like, ‘Well, I guess we’re not going be paired up anytime soon.’ I remember we laughed immediately after they yelled ‘cut,”‘and said to each other, ‘Well, so much for that!'”

Fast-forward to early 2025 and as Zamprogna remembered it, “Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) came up to me at the General Hospital Christmas party, and I think it was a year and a half ago and she said, ‘We’re going to have you in scenes with Elizabeth,’ My internal monologue is going, ‘I’m not with Lulu (Alexa Havins) anymore and Sam’s (Kelly Monaco) gone, so maybe they want to see if this works.’ I didn’t want to get scenes with Becky and try to find the chemistry. I just wanted to play whatever honestly was written and came across for both of us and hope it was what people liked, and I don’t know if it is … or not.”

Knowing how beloved Elizabeth is to the GH faithfuls, Zamprogna added, “She got a big fan base with Ric … and a big fan base with with Jason … and you know, you’re going to piss somebody off. But, didn’t Ric drug Elizabeth and put Carly in a panic room?”

DANTE AND ELIZABETH PAIRING COULD STIR UP STORY FOR OTHERS IN PORT CHARLES

In closing, Dominic felt that the wide-reaching tentacles of a Dante and Elizabeth relationship is something he is 100% down for. “The triangle thing; I was happy to hear it was with Ric and her, because I felt it’s important to have her the top of it as opposed to Dante, Lulu and Elizabeth.”

Zamprogna added, “When you get into relationships on a soap, things seem to fizzle out a little bit, The buildup is what’s the fun part, and the getting to know each other, and the people who are affected by this coming together. When with this case it’s going to affect: Ric, Sonny, Lulu. There’s so much more story here. To me, it’s going to be a fun story to play.”

You can check out Dominic’s visit to That’s Awesome with Steve and Bradford below.

Now weigh-in: Are you rooting for Dante and Liz, or Dante and Ric at this juncture of the story, or neither guy  for Elizabeth? Let us know your thoughts and picks via the comment section.

GH and OLTL Alum Patrick J. Gibbons Reveals the Story Behind Writing Trina’s Song on ‘General Hospital’ (Exclusive)

Published

By

Patrick J. Gibbons

At the conclusion of today’s August 21 episode of General Hospital, Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) sings a lullaby to baby Dez, that went into a montage to close out the episode as her father Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) reports to Pentonville and winds up in his jail cell.

However, in a fun fact, the song entitled, “A Lonely Heart To Give” was actually written by none other than former One Life to Live and General Hospital actor, Patrick J. Gibbons.

Daytime fans first met Gibbons as Sam Manning on One Life to Live. At the time, when he started on the soap, he was just 5-years-old. Gibbons played the part from 2010-2013 on ABC and Prospect Park’s editions of the show. Fast-forward to 2018, Gibbons shows up on General Hospital as Wyatt Hoover, the scout who seemed always be injured, but in the thick of the drama. Patrick had appeared on GH multiple times as Wyatt including: 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023.

FROM HIS GRANDMOTHER’S DEATH CAME THE INSPIRATION FOR HIS SONG

Now in 2026, General Hospital fans are getting to learn about another side of Gibbons’ talent as a songwriter and guitar player after “A Lonely Heart to Give” debuted today! Michael Fairman TV caught up with Patrick, who is now a senior at Penn State entering his final year as a finance major, to get the back-story of how his song wound up on GH!

Gibbons explained he wrote the song in honor of his grandmother who passed away a few years ago with whom he was, very, very close with. “Randomly, my grandmother had a downfall and passed away during the second semester of my sophomore year. I was in my dorm a lot and I was just playing with my guitar. And at the time, I was really into finger-style playing. I wrote the lyric and music to it (with a little help from my guitar teacher Lou), and my mom showed the rough demo to Frank Valentini (EP, General Hospital). He’s like an uncle to me. Frank loved it so much he said, “Finish that up. I want to hear the whole thing, and I want it on the show.”

MAKING MUSIC FOR GENERAL HOSPITAL

Gibbons and his parents took the next steps! “So now, all we needed was a female voice, because I thought that would fit the song well,” Patrick shared. “At the golf club we go to my parents were at a dinner. They liked the singer that was performing and spoke to her about the song, and she says she would like to bring it to her ‘boss’ who ended up being Eric Bazilian of the Hooters fame!” (Bazilian also wrote the smash hit song “One of Us” for Joan Osborne).

Next, “We went in the studio and recorded it and the song came together and it was beautiful. We loved it. They loved it at General Hospital and now they’re putting it the show and they are coming in with a piano, instead of a guitar. Paul Glass, the GH musical director, has been keeping us updated over the last six months of how it was coming along, and when it would air, and how GH put their own arrangement to it. I can’t wait to see and hear what they did with it.”

Photo: JPI

PATRICK’S ONE LIFE TO LIVE FAMILY

Everyone knows that the One Life to Live extended family share a very tight bond, and Patrick said he does stay in touch with a few of his former One Life to Live co-stars, especially those from the Manning family! “I stayed in touch with Kassie DePaiva (ex-Blair) and sent her little videos here and there. She was like my second mom for five years. We keep in contact with Kristen Alderson (ex-Starr) over X the most, and she can’t believe how big I’ve gotten. Like, none of them can! (laughs). I also loved working with Roger Howarth (ex-Todd) and Trevor St. John (ex-Todd and Victor Jr.), and to me since I was so young, they were just my friends, ‘Roger and Trevor,’ not Todd Manning or Victor Jr.”

It was a trip to California and a visit to Port Charles that ultimately led to Gibbons second soap role of Wyatt Hoover. Patrick explains, “In 2016, Frank Valentini invited us out to Los Angeles to visit the set of General Hospital. I think he heard me say, ‘This is so much fun. I miss being on the set.’ He goes, ‘You should come out. I’ll bring you on the show. We can make you a character.'”

A few years later, Patrick’s dream became a reality! “Then, by the summer of 2018, I was playing Wyatt, the scout, and shared scenes with Wes Ramsey (Peter August), and the best was when I shared a scene with Roger Howarth and Michael Easton (ex-John, OLTL and ex-Silas, Finn et al, GH), it was like chemistry from the old days.”

IT’S ALL IN THE NUMBERS

As to his future aspirations, it’s a career in the finance game that has piqued Gibbons’ real-life interest. But never say never to a return to acting. Patrick explained, “I’ve always enjoyed numbers. And on top of that, one of the biggest parts of finance is being personable and outgoing.”

He continued, “That’s one of the greatest skills I developed growing up. I really love the markets. I’m super interested. I’m never going to close the door to acting. I’m always open to that because I just love it so much. It’s such a great art.”

Take note! If there are any investment bankers or private equity folks among the GH faithful looking for a young analyst next year, Patrick’s DMs are open. You can find him on X at @PatrickJGibbons.

So, what did you think of the song sung by Trina on today’s GH that was written by Patrick J. Gibbons? Did you enjoy Patrick’s performances as One Life’s Sam and GH’s Wyatt? Would you like to see him back on GH at some point? Let us know via the comment section.
