RATINGS: ‘The Young and the Restless’ Loses Most Viewers Week-Over-Week; But All Soaps Up Year-Over-Year

The latest network television broadcast ratings are out for the week of August 10-14, 2026 and it revealed that while all four daytime dramas took a hit in viewers from the previous week, it was the top rated The Young and the Restless which saw the largest viewer decline.
According to Soap Opera Network, Y&R lost – 161,000 eyeballs from the previous week, even though it is still the most-watched soap opera in the U.S. with 3,041,000 tuning-in. The storylines for the week included: Nick’s (Joshua Morrow) nightmare after getting high and relapsing and checking into a seedy motel. He later crosses path with another addict, Marie Kirkland (Jade Harlow), with whom he has sex with, but then she OD’s.
In addition, Y&R also showcased that week, Billy (Jason Thompson) making a bold play to stake his claim on Chancellor, causing Jack (Peter Bergman) and others concern. Devon (Bryton James) and Nate (Sean Dominic) charting new career paths for themselves, and Victor (Eric Braeden) and Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) struggling to help their children, Nick and Victoria (Amelia Heinle), while after renewing their vows, still battling over Jack Abbott in their lives.

THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL
Y&R’s sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful came in second again in overall viewers for the ratings period and lost the second most viewers of the week with – 59,000, but still came in with 2,676,000 in total audience.
The storyline involved Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), Finn (Tanner Novlan) and Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) in Monaco, which led to Steffy leaving Finn due to his mother’s presence and lying to her that she was in the country, plus Daphne (Murielle Hilaire) walking away from Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) after she could not handle not being able to have his child.

GENERAL HOSPITAL
Over at General Hospital, the show was only down -22,000 week over week, tallying 1,848,000, which is still down and not back over the 2 million mark, which they had been in some previous weeks. In story, Michael (Rory Gibson) gets to Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) just in time after Jacinda (Paige Herschell) drugged her. As Willow was high, she was about to take Amelia and Wiley for a drive when Michael intervened.
Michael later had an emotional goodbye with Jacinda where he paid her off to start a new life somewhere else, so her actions did not come back to bite him in his effort to secure custody of his children from Willow.

BEYOND THE GATES
Finally, Beyond the Gates actually saw the smallest loss of viewers for the week only down -3,000 and coming in at 1,648,000. In addition, Beyond the Gates topped General Hospital in key demos for 3rd place in the women 18-49, and women 25-54 rating shares.
In story, Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett) is rushed to the hospital after he suddenly becomes ill as Hayley’s (Marquita Goings) plan to get him out of the country gets derailed and Andre Richardson (Sean Freeman) receiving ominous messages from someone from his past, which eventually turns out to be The Impaler herself, Heather Armstrong (Ashley Jones).
ALL SOAP OPERAS UP IN VIEWERSHIP YEAR-OVER-YEAR
The good news is that year over year, all four network daytime dramas are exceeding last August of 2025. According to the ratings report, The Young and the Restless is up year-over-year +82,000, The Bold and the Beautiful, which far and away has had the best season in 2026, is way ahead of last year at this time with + 234,000, General Hospital slightly up +54,000 and Beyond the Gates doing much better than last year with +144,000.
It should be noted: The ratings numbers reflected use the Live+Same Day Big Data+ Panel viewing and DVR playback, defined as 3:00 a.m.-3:00 a.m., and are courtesy of Nielsen. Ratings are the percentage of U.S. TV viewers who tuned in to a specific program.
So, what do you think about how your favorite soap opera performed in the latest ratings period? Which show is piquing your interest? Which is not at all? Share your thoughts via the comment section below and weigh-in.
Sucks, because the Nicholas-centric episodes are the only highlight of The Young and the Restless presently. But with the incoming regime change happening for the autumn, we will see what happens viewership-wise. But I am so happy to see Beyond the Gates succeeding in the ratings the way it has been, as it deserves to! It is the best American daytime soap we have right now, showing the other four how a daytime soap should be written, acted, and produced.
ABC/Disney executives are in talks with producers for a reboot of The Mickey Mouse Club titled The Newest New Mickey Mouse Club.
GH should have a 5 month tape to air schedule like Beyond the Gates. That way, they’ll be able to afford all the heavy artillery used on Gangster Hell, and not be replaced with Mickey.
Then again, if GH is thrown off ABC, it might continue on HULU, and possibly be a success like Days of our Lives is on PeacockTV
I’m sure Scott (ATWT fan) wishes that were the case for As The World Turns when the YawneR network ended his world
No GH isn’t going anywhere
GH is lucrative for ABC. GH is now available on Disney+ without a Hulu subscription. Ratings on Hulu alone are impressive, many times this summer it was the number 1 show on Hulu. Hulu is getting phased out by 2027, everything there will be on Disney+. Gh is very safe.
The demos are piss poor. Demos are what are used to get money from advertisers. Women 18-49 and women 25-54 are super low, low enough for the network to cancel.
GH is not safe.
Compared to some primetime shows, GH is holding their own. GH is still a stronger lead in to affiliates local news than any other option.
Ratings would have to go down another 25% before you’d put it in the danger zone. There would be more budget cuts before that was even considered.
I’m underwhelmed by all the shows right now (except for BTG of co’se which is the greatest show ever in the history of television radio mass media ever ever ever just unsurpassed) there have been some glimmers of good story but too much nonsense. Bold and Beautiful is almost unwatchable same for GH. Young and Restless I still love every day
What is your deal? What did Beyond the Gates ever do to you personally to warrant such a negative obsession? I would imagine it’s the same reasoning that triggers the Obama hate in some.
Ooh!
No one ever told her she was cuddly.
Y&R needs a complete reboot
YawneR is the way they want it to be. Any excitement on that show could cause the elderly fans a heart attack. At the very least, it could cause them to mess their diapers.
Anyone with a good pulse shouldn’t be watching YawneR.
Being a senior person I find this msg to be totally offensive.
If by any chance it was supposed to be funny, be assured it is not.
Y&R needs a lift. I agree with Scott ATWT that Joshua Morrow/Nick Newman is the most compelling character and story. I am dizzy with all the short-term corporate shifts in ownership and operation. It makes no sense and is dull television. I am not keen on the Victoria/Kyle pairing. I do like new directions for Devon and Nate, especially Nate who is underused and lacks direction. would welcome a new family to shake things up. Overall, I think more suspense and slow-build romance would be welcomed. And some glamour. Y&R always seemed aspirational with its design and music.
B&B, after that wonderful ‘Hope Defects’ story featuring Katie and all the buildup and Logan family baggage, has lulled. I am tired of Sheila and have no empathy after her truly reprehensible misdeeds. And the Steffy/Carter tryst seems forced. Still cannot believe Electra upended her romance over a corporate secret she too would have kept if it was her family The series always is more about plot shifts than character development. Does anyone really believe in forever?
GH is always good although I am weary of spy stories after 40 years. BTG is a genuine success story.
The Young and the Restless needs to live up to its title. Focus more on the younger characters with a sprinkling of the 80s vets.
I watched a few episodes done here when you can’t say RAPE and that’s what he did to Sharon done I hope this show gets cancelled’

Hayden Panettiere’s Memorial Service Attended by ‘General Hospital’ and ‘Nashville’ Alum Jonathan Jackson and More

Over the weekend, the loved ones of Hayden Panettiere (ex-Sarah, One Life to Live, ex-Lizzie, Guiding Light and ex-Juliette Barnes, Nashville et al) gathered in Malibu, California on Saturday, September 19 to honor and celebrate the late actress’ life in what has been reported by TMZ as an extremely moving memorial service just one month after her tragic death.
Attending the funeral were several of Panettiere’s Nashville co-stars and closest friends including: six-time Daytime Emmy winner, Jonathan Jackson (ex-Lucky Spencer, General Hospital, ex-Avery Barclay, Nashville), Connie Britton (ex-Rayna James), Claire Bowen (ex-Scarlett O’Connor), Lennon Stella (ex-Maddie Conrad) and Charles Esten (ex-Deacon Claybourne) who performed one of Hayden’s song from the series with a band set up at the church.
In addition to Panettiere’s Nashville co-stars, her dear friends, Evan Ross, Paris Hilton and Ruby Rose were among the 150 or so guests, and the celebration of life was organized by Hayden’s family, including her father, Skip Panettiere.

INSIDE HAYDEN PANETTIERE’S CELEBRATION OF LIFE
The report shared that Connie Britton and Charles Esten made speeches about their late friend and colleague, and it appears guests watched as doves were released outside the church before moving inside for the ceremony in tribute to the 36-year-old star.
Hayden’s mother, Leslie Vogel was reportedly not invited to the memorial. However, she denies this according to TMZ, and shared that she had a family emergency which precluded her from making her daughter’s funeral. In addition, Hayden’s boyfriend, Brian Hickerson and his brother, Zach Hickerson, were also not invited to the memorial. It was Zach who first found Hayden unresponsive in an Airbnb in Greenville, South Carolina.
Page Six reported, that Hayden’s ex-fiancé, Wladimir Klitschko, and their 11-year-old daughter, Kaya, were not photographed at the event.
CAUSE OF DEATH STILL UNCLEAR
Additionally, recent reports from September 14, have indicated that Hayden’s cause of death is related to her taking a fentanyl-laced oxycodone pill. According to TMZ, multiple law enforcement sources connected to the case believe she took one fatal oxycodone pill laced with fentanyl the morning of her death, Sources with direct knowledge allege that Panettiere had a “long time drug dealer” in Los Angeles who provided her with several black-market prescription drugs, including oxycodone.
However on September 16, a rep for Panettiere told ENews,“As reported by the Greenville County Coroner’s Office, Hayden’s death remains under investigation pending the completion of toxicology results, despite reports from some outlets stating otherwise. Recent reports attributed to unnamed sources are unverified hearsay and have attributed to conflicting information that continues to circulate.”

So, are you glad to know Hayden was given a memorial service and that so many of the main cast of Nashville showed up for it? Are you saddened to hear the most updated reports on how the extremely talented actress may have died? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.

‘General Hospital’s’ James Patrick Stuart Delivers the ‘Power Performance of the Week’

Sometimes not overplaying moments within two-person scenes, carry the weight and the gravitas of the situation and tug at our heartstrings. That’s exactly what General Hospital’s James Patrick Stuart (Valentin Cassadine) was able to do on last week’s Tuesday, September 15 and Wednesday, September 16 episodes of the ABC daytime drama series in scenes with Finola Hughes (Anna Devane) and Laura Wright (Carly Spencer).
We know last week saw many emotional turns from the likes of the aforementioned Hughes, plus her GH co-stars, Kelly Thiebaud (Britt) and Cynthia Watros (Nina), plus The Bold and the Beautiful’s Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy). All the actresses delivered noteworthy performances. However, for us, James Patrick Stuart’s Valentin, showed his deep love and care for a woman torn to pieces by the WSB and the sadness he felt seeing this great love of his in so much turmoil, while also trying to hold on to the new woman in his life, which pulled us in.
In story, Valentin hightails it to Anna where she explains how she almost killed Britt Westbourne, and how she faked her recover at the clinic in France, when all along she was seeing visions of Peter August (Wes Ramsey). Anna is in such a state that Valentin offers to run away with her. Carly shows up at Anna’s door and sees Valentin is there and makes a quick exit.

VALENTIN IS HEARTBROKEN FOR ANNA
Anna tells Valentin that he needs to go after Carly and explain to her that he was just visiting her to check in and to take care of an old friend. Valentin says share so much more than that, which Anna says she knows. After Felicia (Kristina Wagner) comes to watch over Anna, Valentin leaves, but is heartbroken over Anna.
SMOOTHING THINGS OVER WITH CARLY
When Valentin arrives back at Carly’s he wants to explain to her what has happened to Anna, but Carly says she wants to respect Anna’s privacy. In a very adult conversation, Valentin tells Carly he believes Anna will come back from this and land on her feet as she always does. He adds that he hopes that one day she can find some peace, just like he has now with Carly. Valentin realizes how good Carly has been for him, his outlook and happiness. The two share a hug.
Throughout all of these beats, James Patrick Stuart was able to shift from gut-wrenching concern, caring, and panic, to self-awareness, and hope for the future. It certainly touched us and we hope many viewers felt it too.
It does go to show that sometimes on the soaps, the big histrionic performances are not always the most memorable ones. Sometimes it’s the quiet ones that sneak up on us. All you needed to do was watch Valentin’s eyes in the scenes and you knew exactly how he was feeling.
So, for all the reasons stated above, Michael Fairman TV names General Hospital’s James Patrick Stuart, as our pick for the Power Performance of the Week.
So, do you agree with our choice of James Patrick Stuart, or do you think someone else should have been gotten our recognition? If so, share your picks and thoughts via the comment section below.

Chris McKenna Speaks Out On His Final Day as ‘General Hospital’s’ Jack Brennan with Words of Wisdom to ‘Finish Strong’

When Jack Brennan was found dead and floating in the Metro Court pool on the September 1 episode of General Hospital, it unfortunately meant the end of the road for Chris L. McKenna, who had returned to the soaps to play the WSB Port Charles Bureau Chief.
As with any death on the soaps, and a litany of subjects in this whodunit, Brennan’s death opened the door to more story, as fans are still grappling with the decision to kill off the character.
The bittersweet exit was not the first time Chris had been written out of a soap. On The Young and the Restless, Chris played detective Mark Harding from 2014-2015, who ended up dead, and guess who was in that scene? None other than GH’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) when he was over at the CBS soap opera taking on the role of Dylan McAvoy.
Now. on an all-new episode of the That’s Awesome podcast with Burton and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli, GH) released on Friday, September 18, the duo welcomed Chris McKenna direct from Clearwater, Florida.

MAKING SURE PAIGE HERSCHELL WAS OK
During the conversation, Chris explained how his last day went and how he went about lifting the spirits of the GH cast and crew with very special attention to Paige Herschell (ex-Jacinda Bracken).
McKenna shared how he knew for a bit about his departure, before the rest of the cast knew he was exiting the show, explaining. “I had time to process it. It had been a surprise to many, to me, and to many people in the building when it first happened. But by this point, Paige Herschell found out at the same time that she wasn’t going to be coming back. She had her last day, the day before mine.”
“Paige hadn’t been through this before. I had,” shared the soap vet. “I had a show that was on the air and it was in primetime, and then it got canceled. I thought it was devastating, and that I was never going to work again. So, this has happened so many times to me (throughout my career), that I don’t get rattled anymore by it.”

Photo: ABC
WHEN YOU GET BAD NEWS …
McKenna said he wanted to go out on a high note: “It was important to me to make sure, first of all, everybody else felt comfortable because everybody felt bad and felt sad and felt upset. I was like, ‘It’s fine. We’re okay. I’m going to be fine. So, let’s make sure everyone’s okay.'”
Out of concern for his exiting co-star, Chris recalled, “I wanted to make sure that Paige got her flowers, and she had her attention and got her send off appropriately. I wanted to make sure I hugged her and told her to finish strong. It it was important to me, and also I was working with the kids (Scarlett, Danny). I try to be a mentor to some of the younger actors as well.”
LEAVING PORT CHARLES
The message Chris wanted to impart before he left the GH studios for the last time was, “I’ve been doing this so long, so I wanted to show them how to handle it. When you get bad news, it doesn’t have to devastate you, and it’s not the end of the world, and to make sure everybody’s laughing and having fun. I tried to make the the last day fun for everybody else, so that everybody could enjoy it with me.”
You can check out the full discussion with Chris with Steve and Bradford below.
