THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS Promo: Sage From The Grave, Phyllis Spills To Jack About Billy!

Courtesy/CBS
Next week on The Young and the Restless, Sharon (Sharon Case) is completely haunted by disturbing visions of Sage (Kelly Sullivan). Guilt-ridden, Sharon knows she needs to come clean that Sully is really baby Christian, but she seemingly won’t do it!
Sharon doesn’t want to rock the boat in her relationship with Dylan (Steve Burton) with her deceptions, yet she definitely still has a huge pull towards Nick (Joshua Morrow). Will Sage from the grave bring clarity for Sharon on what to do next?
Meanwhile, Billy (Jason Thompson) has told Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) they should tell Jack (Peter Bergman) about their feelings and come clean with him. Phyllis doesn’t want to cause havoc in the Abbott family. However, in a key scene it looks like Phyllis tells Jack she slept with Billy! What will happen when that truth is revealed?
Watch the latest promo from CBS Daytime for The Young and the Restless! Then weigh-in: Do you want Sharon and Phyllis to confess their secrets? Are you ready for the fallout from their lies? Comment below!
It should not be such a big surprise for Jack. I mean, it did happen before…..will he never learn?
My question is???? Why do people cheat on each other???? Why get married????? If one gets the seven year itch ? ….Just get a divorce first….then, do whatever.
It does happen in real life, I don’t wear blinders. Yet, it’s something I will never understand.
I do not like Jack, the character, but you ‘gotta’ feel sorry for the guy and his “duh, I’m clueless” demeaner.
Phyllis and Billy do not interest me….I see/feel neither the love nor the lust between these two.
I know I’m outnumbered; that fans find Jason T sexy, good-looking and virile. He does nothing for me. And, Gina does not have the IT factor either. Falls short, in my opinion.
Now, if we are to talk about sexy, and from a woman’s point of view? Look no further than Chrishel Stause.
She and Jason look great together….at least, she enhances him….gives him a boost !!
PS…Sorry;
I have said this repeatedly: Sharon’s torturous situation(s) befuddles me. Affixing this endless, all-kinds-of-torment on this character is like beating a dead horse, per se. Why? Is this the only theme this extraordinary actress can carry? I do not think so.
This stupid weight should be lifted off her shoulders as we speak.
She has been turned into a deceitful manipulator……needy and helplessly dependent on her emotions. But, hey….she’s married to super-overnight-cop-of-the-century. Why shake the tree?? Indigestible!!
Sharon was her best with Michael Muhney. I know that’s asking for the moon. So, the other best thing is Nick. I am still waiting for that to happen…..And, when it does? LEAVE THEM BE!!
Obviously, Sharon’s predicament and guilt manifest themselves in the eerie form of Sage. Sharon has found her niche; her safe-place; finally in her life. But, it’s a made-up world, detached from reality.
Sharon’s head will explode. It’s a matter of time.
Again, she will end up in the asylum. That’s the TPTB’s venue. We all know this. It’s standard fare for Sharon…..her safety net.
Just as rehab is for Nikki. ” It’s The Same Old Song……”.
ie: Sharon Case
I – love – your first para
“…Is this the only theme this extraordinary actress can carry? ”
yeah… right
I know I’ve posted years ago…. give this character a job… she is NOT Nicks lady in waiting… and or fall back
just saying
it’s amazing to think… I liken her to Liz @GH… so much chemistry with all their pairings
LOL
I’ve kinda given up that Sharon outside of all that she is… ( fans will stampede… she’s the reason Y&R has a following ) will be any thing more than
I more than any thing… wanted her outside of the shadows of Nick Newman… and she’s been their… with other men
as most posts will agree… blundered … going outside the box
Y&R production “TEAM”
give Sharon an inroad
I don’t know… I’m just hoping… that down the road… Sharon and Nikki will go all Thelma and Louise and just take down the NewMAN mens
@Patrick.
You bet, my friend. Jack put so many people through hell. Patty is what she is because of him. I felt a twinge of pity for one second. He does deserve every bad thing that befalls him.
As far as Sharon, I would like to see her happy–free and clear without baby dramas, starting fires, going nuts etc. …..not too much to ask to give this character some peace and a normal life. She ‘ain’t’ getting any younger.
Thank you, Patrick. You pull a few delicious writing of your own, my dear poet!
Celia, my dear, a few things…
1. At times, I don’t get or understand as to W-H-Y some couples even get married?!?!? Just saying……….
2. I DO NOT feel sorry for Jack!!!!! AT ALL!!!!! N-o-p-e.
3. Celia, my dear, you are SO RIGHT ON about Chrishel Stause!!!!! To me, Chrishel is REALLY ROCKING AND ROLLING as Bethany!!!!! Y-A-Y!!!!!!!!!!!
Have a good one, my friend.
Hey, Jay,
I am so glad I am not alone in upholding the sanctity of marriage. Call me old fashioned. But, that, too, is a fallacy as infidelity is as age-old as rain.
Soaps, movies etc. take full advantage of that fact. Later, my friend.
I appreciate that posts… point out
that Jack is getting his just desserts
he did the same thing to his dear ole dad… w/Jill
I get that…
I’m just pissed… that thee main staple of Abbott Mystique … that Peter Bergman… solidified…
should one day … conquer and just put out his lights… and rot
the inveterate … why why why… I ask
Victor Newman
Sweat heart , people who cheat are never in love! They might be good looking, get what they set out to get (sex) get bored and look for their next piece of ass! In other words, they never fell in love with the person, just their looks !
Sorry, I meant sweetheart!
LMAO..that only sweats when they get caught or over run by guilt hee hee (phyllis)..since when is phyllis EVER concerned with consequences. .she’s what you don’t know won’t hurt you lol
Totally over….SAGE…SHARON….SULLY AND DUMBLAN…
Can’t wait!!! I’ll take Kelly Sullivan anyway we can get her on out soaps. LOVE HER!! Next week looks so good!!!
Jack will sleep with Hillary to even the score and just as Phil and Jack reunite Hillary will be pregnant-predictable soap plotting-lol
Good prediction, Jimmy; but, oh, sooo gross!!!! Sperm is always viable, regardless of age, LOL.
Oh dear Lord, you’re probably right.
Oh Wow! What are the chances?
It is also very possible that Phyllis is pregnant. I offered this idea before. ‘Who da Dada’?
Oh, my darling, Harry. I suppose I am destined to “set you straight” on these actors’s ages…LOL.
Alicia is 48….. Pregnancy at that age is not unheard of.
Jim…dude…the L-A-S-T thing I wanna watch on Y&R right now is that WHACK-JOB Hilary being pregnant for 9 months!!!!! Y-U-C-K!!!!!
Later, Jim.
Oh my goodness, I thought the same gross thing! And my other fear is that Dr. Meredith Gates is going to get pregnant.
Damn, fifty something Meredith pregnant? OH dear Lord please no,
She is coming off as a lonely spinster and it’s not a flattering look on her.
It brings back memories of playing Old Maid with my old aunt, who was yes, and Old Maid and who looked a lot like Meredith.
Yes, Lucia!! Exactly.
As I said, those little swimmers are alive and kicking, no matter a man’s age. But, I find it hard to believe a man that age does not need a little ‘push’….no pun.
I,also, find it soooo hard to digest the fact that Meredith finds him sexually attractive. EWWWW!!
The again, she has Daddy issues. I know, I know…gross!!
So, let’s see….how many pregnancies? Well, there’s Meredith; there’s Phyllis; there’s Hilary and possibly Bethany. Imagine that!! Hope they can keep the Daddies straight. So many paternity tests. LOL.
I am not sure if I am watching General Hospital or Y&R anymore these days. With all the BRAIN TRAUMAS/ILLNESSES going on its hard to tell.
First you have Sharon with her BiPolar disorder that she conveniently uses to explain away everything, she is now having hallucinations about Sage. I can guarantee you that eventually it will be that she’s been so stressed over what she learned about Sully that she hasn’t kept up with her meds or her doctor which will explain away why she’s lying. But Mariah is no better. I don’t get why a promise to Sharon trumps telling Nick the truth about his son. Just don’t.
Then we have Stitch’s son who to explain away his evil doings and murderous ways, has a brain tumor. Really? I don’t get it. Couldn’t the kid have been just a bad seed that caused severe stress on Abby and that’s how she lost her unborn child (if it was really necessary to kill or even impregnant her in the first place!). Now we have to deal with whatever the kid’s name is with an unknown brain ailment.
Hillary is relapsing while Ashley is not but both served by Neville.
Through in all of Billy’s frequent visits to the emergency room and Victors to the prison doctor one would think the show would up the set design for the hospital so it looks fresher every day.
While I am mentioning Billy, what has happened to the character?! When he was played by David Tom and that other guy during the teen years, he was a good boy who saw the good in others and struggled to help them. Then Billy Miller came on board and brought the foolishness of the character’s youth with added humor. That Billy made mistakes, owned them, apologized for them and even fought like a man but he was extremely likeable and real. Then Burgess Jenkins took over and the writers made him even more dumb and even less of a strong man. Billy didn’t see consequences in what he did and stupidly forgave the man who ran down his child, killed her and tried to cover it up and even fled. He FORGAVE THE GUY and asked the court for leniency. WHAT?!
Now we have Jason THompson and Billy is being written like a DICK and an emotionless moron! THis new Billy is angry and wants everything for himself and doesn’t care. Sorry, if Billy was going after Lily I might get his slightly lecherous ways and how he tells a woman SHE WANTS HIM. Why? Because Billy and Cane have history. Billy always saw Cane as the lying guy who became the apple of Billy’s mother’s eye. To fall for Lilly and make a play for her would not only give Lily great story but it would also reignite the feud between Billy and Cane and give Cane more meat to play with in storylines than whether the dining room has enough napkins.
No this new Billy doesn’t care about Victoria or the supposed love he had for the mother of his children. He doesn’t care that his sister Ashley is worried about his actions that ARE PURELY SELFISH and not at all ABBOTT-like. And the kicker is that Billy is doing all this against his brother, the one man who has stood by him through 99% of all of his deeds. Jack saved his ass from his Hong Kong gambling debts, was there for him when Billy stupidly left his 5 year old daughter in a car alone at night on the side of the road (the one time I agree with Victor on Billy) and during his coma. NOW, Billy doesn’t care about Jack’s feelings.
Also, Billy has lost his humor since Billy Miller left. They tried it with Burgess but his acting fell flat while with Thompson he’s playing Billy like a man wronged by others but is actually a man who wronged others.
I love the actor but don’t like the character right now.
What a great post–I do agree with you.
Even at his worst, Billy had feelings. Yes,I can imagine Billy having impulse controls and sleeping with his brother’s wife. He’s done it before with Sharon. However, the Billy we know would be torn up with guilt and remorse thereafter.
This Billy just doesn’t give a damn. In fact, he almost seems hostile toward Jack as if he were enjoying the prospect of hurting him. This way Billy gets to screw Phyllis and his brother at the same time. Talk about your unholy threesome.
Okay, I stand corrected.
Billy pretended to feel sorry for his brother today.
This whole story just isn’t working.
And why the hell is Phyllis whispering her lines to Billy all of time?
Totally true!
And where’s the bedroom in that mansion? Must it be in the living room or staircase only?
I mostly agree with you, Paul, except I don’t care for Jason Thompson at all. I just feel he’s a limited actor all around. But it’s not his fault that they’ve now destroyed the Billy character, the same way they destroyed Sharon, Summer, Neil, Victor, to name a few. They’re just too reprehensible for me to believe I could ever like them again. I know we have to suspend our disbelief on soaps, but Billy’s abrupt changes are simply not realistic. Oh, by the way, can anyone tolerate this new Bethany person? She not only resembles an Ewok, but her acting just isn’t on the level of what we expect on Y&R. She’s supposed to be an experienced actress, so I don’t get the lack of ability. Is it just me?
Hi… I like the actress and don’t really like insulting her looks. I do see what you are saying about her acting but its the writing that she’s being given and the director for not telling her to tone down the volume. That dinner with Jack and Phyllis had me looking around my living room to make sure no one else could hear her AND I WAS ALONE and not in the scene. LOL
BTW… one thing I left out of my long comment was the back that Billy called Bethany a BIMBO to Phyllis! Really?!! Bethany went out on a date with a man she had a crush on who ONLY used her for sex and his ego. Then when the egomaniac got into a motorcycle accident with his lover who happens to be his brother’s wife, that mistress/sister-in-law walked up to Bethany and SHE offered the girl money to lie. BETHANY didn’t suggest it or blackmail anyone. WHY CALLED THE WOMAN A “BIMBO” then?! Billy is the bimbo while Phyllis is, well, I am not sure what the PC word is for a woman who sleeps with her husband’s brother?
Oh I LOVE Bethanny, She is played by Christel Strause, an AMC alumni.
Just give her a chance, she is good. She’s good at playing the spaced out dumb chick who is actually steps ahead of the people who look down on her. She’s dumb like a fox.
My wish? That she outsmarts both Billy and Phyllis and wins. Really, she is great and so good she makes it look easy. As far as her looking like an Ewok? I think CS is gorgeous and she has a killer figure too.
Stause is stellar! I know her acting very well from AMC., Soaphound.
However, I can understand how anyone would dismiss this great, gorgeous actress as a nonentity.
I believe she IS to act the airhead. The fact that she comes across as sub-par in her craft and makes one believe it, proves her honed experience as an artist.
I agree with Harry, and his wisdom. Given the chance; given the right storyline; given the vivid writing, Chrishel, as Bethany, will make heads spin.
I like her with Jason….he seems more resolute when with her. If there is a small chance that these two could be a couple, I hope Thompson comes through. I do have my reservations, as his acting does not impress me….not as Billy, nor as Patrick. I think Stause could be his salvation….as Bethany could be Billy’s. Hold your punches, people….my opinion…LOL.
On the other hand, I hold firmly to the fact that Billy coupled with Phyllis will teeter on the edge of a craggy precipice.
I like Bethany and Chrishell. I think she’s gorgeous. She’s acting the way they want her to act.
Golly gee, Paul….I wanted to say the ‘D’ word so badly, but I was afraid of getting kicked off. Thanks for saying it! LOL.
Every little nuance about Billy(s) (all of them) is en pointe. From David to Jason.
I loved David….but, when Billy Miller, as the adult Billy A, walked on stage, my heart skipped a beat. He was the whole package…looks, charisma, personality and mostly he had that soft, Southern, sexy wsy about him that captured and commanded attention.
Then, came Burgess, who had not one iota of anything Billy A.
Jason Thompson is a fish out of water altogether, as Billy. Arrogant as all that and irritating. The worst thing TPTB could have done, in my opinion, was giving him Phyllis as a ‘dance’ partner. Dumb!!
You are right, Paul ….Jason Thompson’s ‘facade’ is insipid….spoiled brat who has a grudge against the world. He exudes entitlement….as you so eloquently put it, that he blames everyone else, when he is his own worst enemy, and enemy to others.
It is beyond me how he is still coddled by one and all…..starting with his mother.
Oh, Celia, I wish I could clone your perfect comment. I feel the same way about Billy M. When he started as “Liam” on Y&R, my entire world upended….in the best way. He could make an unconscious person swoon! The smooth confidence, that smile, the lush blonde hair, cool blue eyes, the comic timing, and that VOICE. Oy vey!
Didn’t care that much for Burgess, though I liked him better than David Tom. Burgess at least had a sense of humor, albeit a few beats behind Billy M. But J.T. has NONE of the Billy Abbott charm, just an arrogant, petulant child. And his treatment of Jack is beyond reprehensible. And how about the “reimagining” of Katherine’s mansion? We should run him out of town on that score alone.
@Soaphound.
Thank you, Soaphound.
I think we all had too great expectations from and for Jason Thompson. It is amazing how inconsolable some of us still are over losing Billy Miller. He was perfect. Unfortunately, as much as I love Billy M, he needs to step it up at GH. ….starting with removing Sam, the thorn in his side. Between the two of them, after a while, my TV set starts to throb in annoyance. I should actually record their conversations and play it to my two-year-old when she has a hard time falling asleep…..better than a lullaby. LOL.
I think Jason T needs better writing; such that will endear him to the audience. I know he has a healthy following…..the right writing; the right co-stars. This thing with Phyllis is not helping his cause one bit.
Unfortunately, as much as I love him, he also needs to step it up at GH.
I don’t think you have to worry about using the word DICK here when someone else here calls an actress an EWOK. It’s rude!
Celia, love your comments.
For those who are not familiar with this actress: She is the actress who played Janet from another planet’s daughter, Amanda on AMC.
Amanda, as played by Crystal Stause, was at first introduced to viewers as a hardened con artist/grifter. In time the actress showed that her character acted that way as a way of self protecting as she had been through hell and back since she was a child. She eventually showed her vulnerability, her intelligence and her innate sense of goodness and the character viewers first hated became the character we all grew to love.
The actress is really good. I get not liking her at first blush but give her a chance. If the writing is there she will grow on you. As I see it, she is the only bright light in this dreary and depressing story line.
@Harry.
Thank you, my darling Harry.
You have described Chrishel to the letter. And, you remember her performance as Amanda better than I.
Isn’t it extremely ironic that ‘Janet from another planet’ was played by no other than Robin Mattson? Perfect looney-tune role, Harry. LOL. I was pretty young, but I could never forget Janet….
its easy to criticize both jason and gina for their interpretations of billy and phyllis
although miller and stafford were once the one and only actors to popularize the characters, i remember towards the end of their runs both actors could nt wait to walk off the stage. miller was phoning it in during dehlia s death and stafford looked completely unintrested when paired back with bergman. both can have fun at gh for all i care
now jason and gina have infused life and imo sex appeal back to the characters and are hot for eachother. i love both of them.
I am do glad you find this couple intriguing. I wish I felt the same way. Phyllis and Billy gross me out. The reasons are endless….one being, the fact that She is sleeping with her husband’s brother.
I suppose I am spoiled….Billy M and Michelle S will always be Billy and Phyllis to me. However, even if they presently held those roles and slept with each other? Well, I would still be grossed out and miffed. The writers are making a big mistake …….unless this is not a mistake and TPTB are taking us to something dangerously momentous. The sky will fall. Jack has finally had enough? Will someone die?
Paul Connelly, your post is stellar. Do we know if the powers that be at the show read this stuff? They should!
And is Bethany gone for good already?
This story line has been dragged out for to long. This whole show has changed so much! I’ve only been watching for 8 years, unreal how much it has changed 🙁
Tskyent, I so totally agree and I have been watching it since the 70’s…I so wish CBS and Sony get with each other and realize it needs to be return to it’s GLORY DAYS…
Oh how much I miss Y&R…i quit watching it several years ago…Until they fix Y&R and get it back along with it’s classic background music…Y&R is no more for me.
I HAVE BEEN WATCHING FOR MANY MORE YEARS, AND BOY ARE YOU RIGHT….IT IS UNREAL HOW MUCH IT HAS CHANGED AND NOT FOR THE BETTER….MISS KATHERINE,JILL AND PEOPLE THAT CARRIED INTERESTING STORY LINES…SO MANY GREAT PEOPLE HAVE LEFT THE SHOW!!! AND…..THOSE THAT ARE LEFT OR THE NEWBIES NEED TO HAVE SOME INTERESTING MATERIAL WRITTEN FOR THEM…..LETS HOPE IT GETS BETTER SOON…WAY TO DRAGGED OUT…THE SAME THING DAY AFTER DAY AND ITS NOT GOOD.
This show stinks to high heaven. Now that Phelps has been fired, send Pratt, Steve Burton, Hunter King, and the other FOJ’s packing too. Clean house!
I agree. Unfortunately, we can’t do anything abou6 the great Katherine Chancellor. But we cwn do something about bringing Jill b back. Die hard fans in my opinion were spoiled and teased at the same time when the beautiful and talented Jess Walton came back and gave her all to an all to brief appearance as Jill. Her scenes with Hilary were the best this show has seen in to long a time. I got a couple of wishes fulfilled when she had her little run in with Nikki and got a few digs in about Victor. I was also glad she was able to have a brief chat with Esther. I agreed with Jill completely when she said to Esther that she wished she could go back to Katherine’s house and have the three of there sniping at each othe for old times sake. I am really getting sick of Sharon whining to Mariah about Sully and the whole business with Adam Not to mention trying to get use to the writers ruining what’s leftv8f Billy. I just hope they don’t deceide to have a Jack get Hilary pregnant. That wil bring the gross factor right up there with Sharon and Victor doing “the deed”
Dear JK:
It is not that I disagree with you but wen you type in call caps, I cease listening because I hear it as shouting.
Ditto again and again… especially with the music! Characters had a theme song for them. Glad I bought the CD of the show’s music from years ago!
I’ll say it again: Y&R needs to put that baby switch story on the back burner and not return to it until Sully/Christian is old enough to be affected by the reveal and then the show can play out the ripple effect for years. You’d think the show would’ve learned from their mishandling of the Faith storyline with Ashley getting Sharon’s baby: the baby was returned to Sharon mere months after the switch and now the effects of that “story” (which played out in a matter of weeks) are never even referred to any more.
Compare that to ONE LIFE TO LIVE’s baby Mary story where it took nearly 3 years for Jenny to learn that she was raising Katrina Karr’s baby and the fallout was epic. Or to OLTL’s Jessica being told that she was Mitch Laurence’s daughter and was part of a baby switch; the show played that story for a decade and benefited greatly from Jessica being older and the actress being able to hold her own with the veteran actors. And then there’s the classic Y&R Sheila/Lauren baby switch which took nearly two years to play out.
If a soap invests in doing this type of story they need to be in for the long haul and build toward a reveal that causes a dramatic domino effect felt for years.
ITA– if they had waited to make the Faith reveal, it might be coming out now, instead we have to endure a copy cat story that isn’t nearly as compelling as the original. But the sad truth is most soap viewers today do not have the patience to invest in stories long term. If the Faith reveal took years they would be complaining it was taking too long— viewer like us you would be willing to invest the time, to savor the pay off that takes time to ripen are dying breed.
That said, now that Sharon knows the truth I don’t want to see her lie to Dylan for years. When Adam stole Faith, he was trying to save his own skin, but in some odd way he wanted to make it up to Ashley for causing her miscarriage. His keeping the secret was self serving and noble all at once. But Sharon keeping this a secret is just silly. She didn’t cause the situation, she knows what it is like to have a baby taken from her– Dylan isn’t made of glass he will not break if she told him the truth. The only way I could accept this being kept under wraps for years, would be if she tells Dylan and he agrees to keep the secret too. Otherwise, let us end this misery– wrap up this story and move on.
The soaps desperately need ”young” writers, someone who is of the 21st century..
It would be awesome if when the dead came back they were more zombie like the walking dead..
yah know put some ‘NOW’ into the soaps..
Soaps need a good shot of dynamite under their arses to get ’em up and going!
Young writers needed !!!
needed- writers of the 21st century media to pull the soaps out of the neverending 80’s .. (which by the way I have heard were much better than now, why- because back in the glory days the writers were actually young !
And, su; not screwed up people and storylines. At the risk of sounding offensive, some of this writing is completely off the wall, in my opinion. It is too outer-space-fantastical.
Common sense goes a long way…..just once in a while; I’d welcome a love story that has twists and turns, yes; but, without the macabre; without the subterfuge; without the incredible child-play.
I suppose every thought and idea of any and every storyline has been run into the ground.
So, su, I do agree with you. Fresh, young writers could be the answer. But, no Kardashian theme, or over-compensating by offering too loose stories …..you know? Such as veering from the concept of family.
hi Celia
Seems the writers are older/senior citizens and set in their way of writing- same ol’ ..
In the 80’s, the glory days, our same writers J&S were 35 years old and now 60 (age estimation)
So, new young writers are needed.. new writing ideals new presentation to modernize our soaps..
Pratt writing in the 80’s was a 35 year old writer (fresh) now 60? ..
“Fresh” – yes
“Young” – not only the young
Finding an appropriate balance in everything is difficult.
@Tani.
Hi, Tani,
I stand corrected. I will amend that. FRESH is the key. A good writer, who gives vivid, descriptive stories, where the words dance before us, will always deliver, regardless of age.
However, su does have a point. The mindset differs as we age; and what may attract those of us who are older, may not appeal to those of us who are younger.
At least, that’s what I was thinking. I have been watching soaps since I was very, very young. I wonder how many kids, other than my little nieces and my six-year-old son ( when they are home from school) even watch soaps.
As a matter of fact, how many people under 30 watch soaps? I don’t know. My sister is 17…. She is not interested; as I would think neither are any of her contemporaries.
The writing should reflect what goes on in everyday adolescent, teen, young adult life. Not what is portrayed on the soaps today; especially DOOL, where youth experiences more morbid drama than it has a right to.
I do like the balance you propose, Tani. That’s the trick!!
I can’t fault you on that Suoo. The show is called Young and Restless– perhaps younger writers could recapture the essence of what the show was meant to be about
Thoughts on this thread…I think some new energy and originality from writers is a good idea. But a combo between traditional soap themes of romance, more adventure and fun, and legacy, along with a “fresh” approach.
Remember, even in the soap heydays with possible 35 yr old writers they were including mixed age groups like the Q’s and Spencer’s, still throwing in the Cassidines, the ice princess and Casey, bad guys without the relentless mob stories.
But not the Walking Dead, end of the world stuff…this is daytime…love in the afternoon, not doom and gloom. And better than some of the sitcoms on night time. I think this time slot desperately needs some more originality than it’s dumbing down storylines…IMO.
Also wonder if an aspiring writer with talent sees any future in daytime, and this is why we aren’t seeing more of their ideas. After all some say it’s a dying genre, and the networks don’t seem to be investing as much into the remaining four…examples sets and locations.
Is Phyllis really telling Jack or is she imagining telling him? Considering she cheated on him before, he really shouldn’t be surprised, but it will hurt even more because it’s with his little brother.
Imaging it
That’s a good wuestion, Mo. She’s between a rock and a hard place. Her dilemma is her own fault. What she feels for Billy is lust. He’s a diversion and probably more dexterious with his hands in bed, LOL. All kinds of volcanic explosions must have gone down in bed with Billy. Double LOL.
I think Phyllis misses Marco Annicelli’s lovemaking? HaHa….bit of irony, wouldn’t you say?
By the same token, Phyllis is very well aware that any relationship with Billy would be so disastrous everywhichway. Can’t tie him down due to immaturity.
Also, I think she loves Jack, albeit in a sedate, unexciting way….she does not want to hurt him.
But, you know how it goes…lust is a very powerful incentive….down to one’s toes. LOL.
Question
Oops again….dexterous.
I did not know that anyone cared about Pepper Salt or Olive Branch? The destruction of Sharon I see continues! Memo to Case get out and get a night rime gig this show is toast,
Well even though its only a ghost, I’m so happy to see Sage back again. I think it was a big mistake letting her go. Such a great actress. I know she wont be there for long but it’s really nice to see her again. Maybe they could bring her back as Sage’s twin sister Page! Just kidding about the name.
I have to admit its been a while since a soap has played a love affair like they are playing with Y&R with Billy and Phyllis. Granted, I am not buying Billy’s DICK-A$$ motivations and selfish rich boy attitude but I am dying for the fall out.
I do want to see Phyllis fall this time around. After Jack struggled to get back to her, took control back from Victor and stood by her when she begged one week not to ruin her reputation by revealing Marco which almost ruined Jabot. He even stood by her when she struggled to get over being raped multiple times by the hand of Victor. YET, she overlooked all that for her old selfish ways. I adore that about Phyllis… impulsive and stupid and then struggle to cover her tracks.
BUT for this story to truly make me love the outcome several things have to happen:
1) Jack needs to PUBLICLY punch the lights out on Billy while the town watches.
2) Jack needs to tell Phyllis to get out of his house and then when she gets to the mansion see boxes and suitcases on the front steps with her belongings and HIS WEDDING RING.
3) Smily Ole Jack needs to return in a big way. Not only should Jack let Victor gloat in Phyllis cheating on him by none other than his brother, Jack to turn to Victor and declare war on Victor – no more nice guy. (Why? Because Jack’s life was perfect til Victor changed the game with Marco). Let’s see Victor’s world turned upside down. WHo knows, have Jack manipulate Nikki into getting Victor’s shares of Newman, the ranch and maybe Sapato.
4) Take ULTIMATE REVENGE on the worthless and selfish brother, Billy. First take aim at BRASH & SASSY and eventually gain control of it. Bankrupt Billy and then buy the company and sell back to Victoria for $1. And while he’s out to ruin Billy, lets make him gain lifetime control over Billy’s trust fund so Billy can NEVER EVER have anything he wants without working for it.
5) Take up with Bethany and not Hillary. Let’s see Bethany comfort Jack and then fall for him. Let’s also see Bethany be a spit fire who gives back to Phyllis as sharply as Phyllis gives it. Let’s see Bethany become Jack’s new woman.
Sure, smiling ole Jack can return but he can still be the greatest brother around.
I just want to see Billy and Phyllis finally get what they want but at a cost that basically means they just wanted excitement but not each other.
I like it, Paul! Especially the part about Jack ending up with Bethany.
Yeah, I know, I know, the age difference but I thought I saw sparks fly during their interaction.
I am so over Billy and Phyllis. Jack plans a surprise weekend trip to Barbados and Phyllis turns him down so she can spend the weekend with Billy. Now when I they first said they were going to spend the weekend together, I was sure I heard them say they were going OUT of town to spend the weekend together so they could enjoy each other’s company without fear of being caught. BUT NO! There they are yet again, going at it a couple of horn dogs in that dreary blue-gray living room. Billy does not even have the class to take Phyllis upstairs to the bedroom let alone plan a luxurious, romantic weekend trip like Jack. And how is it no one ever sees Phyllis’s car? Where does she park?
It kills me that no one sees her car. I would buy it that she parks it around the back in the garages (years past Katherine had a slew of them and a driver) and then see Phyllis come in the back door. Ridiculous.
PLUS… This mansion is supposed to be massive. Have an east wing and a west, etc. but it’s perfect for a single guy?
As for the weekend away… I agree. The living room? Seriously? The show is filmed in LA. Why not just have them meet in LA and we see them walk on the beach or have dinner together. All these wonderful location shoots we are accustomed to on B&B, why can’t they be used here?
I don’t see the age difference with Jack and Bethany as being a bad thing. It will add drama and even make her more a match for Jack because she won’t take the crap people would say.
I would even welcome her working at Jabot.

Christel Khalil Reveals She Almost Quit Acting After ‘That’s So Raven’ Audition, But Then Came ‘The Young and the Restless’

The Young and the Restless fan favorite, Christel Khalil (Lily Winters) is the special guest on this week’s edition of Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart which dropped today on Tuesday, June 23rd.
During the interview with Rebecca and Greg, Khalil who had played Lily Winters on-screen since August of 2002, nearly 24 years with the CBS soap, shared how early on her teenage acting career, she was ready to call it quits in show business, after a heartbreaking audition for the lead of a new Disney Channel sitcom, which later turned out to be the hit seres, That’s So Raven, starring Raven-Symoné which ran for four seasons from 2003-2007.
Christel recalled what happened. “I was 14 and I had always auditioned for all these Disney projects. So I auditioned for That’s So Raven, it was between me and Raven-Symoné and it was called at the time Absolutely Psychic,” explained Khalil. “The character was this girl who had psychic ability, but then when Raven got the role, they named the title of the show after her.”

HOW A BROTHERLY TALK CHANGED THE COURSE OF CHRISTEL’S CAREER
Reliving the disappointment to Greg and Rebecca, Christel explained, “I lost that part and I was just so devastated, because for the network call there were 20 people in the room watching me, and I just have always had such performance anxiety. I just completely bombed the audition and it was terrible. So, I was just devastated. I was actually going to quit acting and then I got the final call for The Young and The Restless and I wasn’t going to go.”
It was Khalil’s brother, who actually got her to reconsider, and if he hadn’t, we would not have our Lily Winters in Genoa City! Christel recounted, “I was like, ‘You know what? I’m done. I don’t want to do this anymore. I’m just going to hang out with my friends.’ I was just devastated. My brother, who is seven years older than me, and he had quit acting at the same age that I was at that time. He said to me, ‘I promise you, I actually really regret quitting. Just go on this audition and if you don’t get it, you can quit.'”
Christel’s screen-test for the role of Lily was actually with the late, great, Kristoff St. John who would play her father Neil (Later it was revealed to Lily, that Neil’s brother, Malcolm Winters was her bio-dad).

ACTING WAS EASY WITH THE LATE KRISTOFF ST. JOHN
“So, I went (to test for Lily) and I remember the screen-test was with Kristoff St. John. It was just so easy to act with him because he’s just so there. I remember just being on set, and that was my first time there for a screen-test where you were actually on set. I had never experienced that before. It was my first time being with an actor and having makeup done, which just helps you really be able to do your best work.”
Recalling the screen-test with the St. John, Khalil, “It was where I had to be emotional ( in the scene) and I always had issues being emotional at auditions. But I was there with him, it just came, and it happened. It was natural and I felt so good and it was amazing. It stands out in my mind a lot.”

Deidre Hall Marks 50 Years as ‘Days of Our Lives’ Dr. Marlena Evans

If you have ever tuned-in to the soap opera genre over the last 50 years, and witnessed some of the greatest romances, drama, classic and outlandish storylines of all-time, you would have seen Deidre Hall smack dab in the middle of it as longtime Salem heroine, Dr. Marlena Evans.
It was 50 years on this date, June 21, 1976 that Hall first appeared on DAYS on NBC which was its home for 57 years before it moved to its current streaming platform on Peacock in September of 2022.
In Hall’s first episode she was introduced as a psychiatrist treating Mickey Horton (John Clarke) at Bayview Sanitarium after he suffered a complete mental breakdown. Mickey learned that his brother Bill Horton (Edward Mallory) was the biological son of Mike Horton (Wesley Eure) with his wife Laura (Susan Flannery) and that he had been lied to for years and years. From that moment on, the rest is television and soap opera history. Days of Our Lives put Hall front and center.

There were so many heartbreaking and shocking story twists involving the beloved Marlena. One of the first was the historic crib death of baby DJ (Don Jr.) in 1980, Marlena’s infant son with Don Craig (Jed Allan). The story had never been told on daytime television and Hall’s performances received accolades from TV critics to fans when Deidre received thousands of letters from grieving mothers who had gone through the same thing in their own lives.
DAYS also brought Deidre’s twin sister, Andrea Hall Lovell to the show as her on-screen sister Samantha, who had a grudge and even locked Marlena up in a sanitarium and took her place! Fast-forward and in 1982, DAYS launched the Salem Strangler story where everyone believed Marlena was his next victim, only it turned out to be Samatha. Jake Kositchek (played by Jack Coleman) was revealed to be the actual serial killer.
Later, Deidre would assume the role of Marlena’s look-alike, Hattie Adams in 2004, once played by her sister, Andrea. Over the years, Hattie has come back to Salem and caused trouble giving Hall a chance to play a different type of character, then the always upstanding Marlena.

THE LOVES OF MARLENA
Deidre Hall struck gold with all her leading men: from the late Jed Allan, to Wayne Northrop as Roman Brady, and of course, her enduring love story with the late John Black played by the iconic Drake Hogestyn. In fact, Marlena’s 1986 wedding to John (who was believed to be Roman at the time) remains a favorite of fans to this day.
TOP MARLENA STORYLINES OF ALL-TIME
While the list is long, here are several that were some of the memorable during Deidre’s five decades in Salem!
The Possession (1994- 1995)
Considered one of the most ambiguous, outlandish and unforgettable story arcs in soap opera history, then Days of Our Lives head writer, James Reilly went there! Marlena was possessed by the devil! That included; the demonic eyes, hissing at father John (Black) the priest, morphing into creatures, and the classic levitating in her bed! It became a cultural phenomenon and cemented Deidre Hall’s status as a daytime television legend. Just ask Ryan Gosling!

The Affair with John Black (1993)
John and Marlena’s forbidden love could not be denied and they had passionate affair, while she was still married to the real Roman. Problem was her daughter, Sami (Alison Sweeney) caught her mother having sex with John on a desk that changed Sami forever.
The Salem Stalker Mystery (2003-2004)
In a shocker, Marlena was revealed to be a serial killer who bumped off several Salem favorites residents who were all alive on the island of Melaswen (spelled “New Salem” backward). Turns out, she was manipulated and gaslighted by Andre DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) to do the “killings” and had no memory of her actions.
The Pier Scene (1991)
This remains Michael Fairman TV’s all-time favorite Deidre Hall moment, which featured some of the best acting in the storied careers of both Hall and Drake Hogestyn.
In the story, a presumed-dead Marlena returns after four years. One foggy night on the pier, John is alone, and Marlena steps out of the fog to reveal herself, and is reunited with the love of her life. You can watch it any year, any decade, and in any moment, and it will have you reaching for the hankies again and again. (best music score fo a soap scene of all-time too!)

Kristen’s Secret Room Reveal (1997)
Marlena was caught in Kristen Blake’s (Eileen Davidson) elaborate web of lies, when she was held hostage in a secret wine cellar/room until John managed to track her down, leading to an iconic on-screen reunion. The classic catfight between Hall and Eileen Davidson was one for the ages.
It should be noted that Maison Blanche, Queen of the Night, Possession, Aremid and Lady in a Cage were all a part of classic DAYS storyline and all featured Hall at the epicenter of it from 1993-1996.
THE RECENT YEARS OF MARLENA
In recent years, DAYS brought back the possession 2.0 storyline under then head writer Ron Carlivati in 2021 where the devil leapt back in Marlena after taking advantage of a frail Doug Williams (the late Bill Hayes)
In 2025, viewers watched the end of the love story of John and Marlena, as John succumbed to injuries sustained in an explosion saving a vial of medication needed to bring Bo (Peter Reckell) back to life. Marlena has been a widow on-screen since June of 2025 as Hall as portrayed the good doctor struggling with her grief and to move on with her life since his death.

One story that never goes away is Stefano DiMera’s (the late Joe Mascolo) obsession with Marlena, his “Queen of the Night.” Even in death, Stefano is toying with her from the great beyond with the mysterious chess set and the missing “pawn,” that he had gifted John and Marlena in his will. The mystery is currently unfolding on all-new episodes of Days of Our Lives.
Tune-in to Days of our Lives on the Monday, June 22 episode as Marlena looks back at her 50 years in Salem.
Share your congratulations to Deidre Hall for this incredible 50-year milestone as Dr. Marlena Evans on Days of Our Lives in the comment section. Then let us know, what is your all-time favorite storyline or moment in the life of Marlena over the past 5 decades? And, just for kicks, and to celebrate this amazing milestone, here is Marlena levitating below circa Christmas Eve 1994.
