Y&R’s Jack and Diane Renew Their Vows; But How Long Will This Union Last?

By Michael Fairman

on

On Monday’s episode of The Young and the Restless, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) and Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) renewed their wedding vows as their son, Kyle (Michael Mealor) officiated over the ceremony.

With everyone gathered at the Abbott estate, Jack and Diane call everyone to attention. Jack shares that because he loves his bride so much, he wants to marry her all over again right now with the help of his son, and in front of all of his family and friends as witnesses.  Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), who gets the ‘best line of the episode’ award, under her breath, utters, “How fun.”

As they stand in front of everyone,  Jack tells Diane just how blessed he feels that they have found their way back to each other. He admits he never thought he would feel such joy again and thanks God for Diane and the way she loves him.

An emotional Diane shares that Jack is such a patient and compassionate man. He’s changed her life and she’s grateful for him every day, and for showing her what it means to be a true partner. She promises to always be there for him and to fight for him.

Kyle can’t think of a better place for these vows to have taken place than at their family home. Once Jack and Diane have finished, Kyle says that by the power vested in him by the internet and the state of Wisconsin, that he pronounces them man and wife.

Afterwards, Nikki finds Diane and leaves her with a threat –  she will make her life a living hell if she does anything to hurt Jack. Diane assures Nikki that nothing will ever happen. Nikki tells her that she really hope’s that’s true for Jack’s sake … and hers.

Watch Jack and Diane renew their vows in the video below. Then let us know, do you think Jack will eventually be blind-sided by Diane, once again? Should he have married her given thei past? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

Why are these two narcissistic fools renewing their vows when they just got married? I don’t trust overly demonstrative couples anymore than I throw them. It’s like they’re trying to prove something. Plus, these two seemed starved for attention and validation. It’s as if they need convincing themselves.

Thank you, Harry. Those of us who know Jack and Diane, know their inner-selves—-All this show for what? How long before the “walls” crumble again? Viagra must really work.
Then, there’s Audra—what do you call someone who sells her/his body? Quid Pro Quo? Or Femme de la nuit? Or both??LOL.

Does anyone else feel that Diane’s return was completely botched? She’s much better as a villain than “reformed,” and given her last go-around in Genoa City (when Maura West played the role) you’d think she had much more score-settling to do. I was hoping she’d team up with Ashland (remember him?) or Tucker (the hard-edged business man version, not this meek love-sick puppy) or hell, even Cameron Kirsten (if he wasn’t a psycho) and take over the town.

Instead, we got Diane begging for forgiveness, parading around town with no consequences for her actions, and having no real story for the past year… such a waste of potential, but then again, that’s all Y&R seems to be these days.

Jack belongs with Phyllis.

And Nick belongs with Sharon, not Sally!

And Sharon belongs with chance not chance with summer yuck!

Oh please, no man deserves that bitch, well, maybe Tucker!

I totally agree with Harry, Jimmy and Shari’s comments. I’ve always loved Jack/Peter Bergman but the sl with Diane has totally ruined my enjoyment of him. I agree that her return was botched – I’m still living in hope she will screw things up. How Jack could go from his anger at her upon her return to the gushing, simpering fool he’s become beats me; and their constant gushing over each other sickens me.

He does belong with Phyllis – they botched her sl as well, partly to prop up Diane. Jack/Phyllis have far more chemistry and they were so close to getting back together. Jack turned on her for saying/doing far less than Diane has ever said/done. It made no sense when they were so close at the time, and for him to forgive Diane for all she did and for her faking her own death and staying away for so long is totally senseless. I will never be on board with this pairing.

JenW I couldn’t have said it better myself Diane is grating on my last nerve I was always a Jack and Phyllis fan myself It is annoying the way Jack paws and drools all over her On a side note, it was nice to see Diane wearing a color for a change She is always in either black or navy blue. But I agree with Billy I think her true colors are slowly going to start to show We just have to wait and see

Jack is ok but she is utterly insipid/boring/pointless.

I like Diane a lot (the actress) is awesome. Glad she is with Jack! Keep them together, no Jack and Phyllis not unless it was played by the missed Gina T (who played Phyllis very well, very)!

John G needs to be out at YR !

I agree. I actually like Jack and Diane. Now that they are married, hopefully there can be some drama storylines for them, but I am so tired of all of the businesses having more storylines than the actual actors. And yes, Gina was fantastic as Phyllis. I cannot stand Michelle Stafford now. I used to love her and was sad when she originally departed for GH, but since her return, I have not been able to stomach her or any of the storylines, except she did have some chemistry with Jeremy Sparks. And I do miss Allie and Noah. We need some youthful storylines, especially for a show called The YOUNG and the Restless.

Wow! Afraid to write. I have no background on just what it was that Diane did to upset all of Genoa City. I find her, without the background, a superb actor. For a couple of years the scripts for Jack have, for me, presented a character clearly not competent to be the head of such a large company. Gradually he seems to be stepping up on the mental level and finding a rather lovely woman to be his wife. HOWEVER, on any level putting Diane in on the top tier of the company was a disaster. On the other hand, Phyllis is driving me nuts. I do recall her dedication to Jack when he became addicted to something years ago. I would like Jack to regain his intelligence and married life while all of these companies shake out. There should always be something solid in a script. I can’t find it. Then again. I remind myself this is the wonderful world of “SOAPS!

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.

This week on General Hospital begins with the ABC soap opera’s 16,000th episode which brings Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) back to Port Charles after being released by the WSB; all thanks to the deal made between Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) and Z (John Oliver).

On the same episode, the upshot of Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) coming face to face, and seeing each other for the first time in months plays itself out, and it may not be how you think. Josslyn hopes sending Valentin to the side of Anna, will break up his burgeoning relationship with her mother, Carly Spencer (Laura Wright), but will it?

It appears Valentin has a warning for Anna. In the GH video preview for the episode, Anna is seen saying “How do you know that?” What does Valentin know, and will he be the person that will catch on that she is being haunted by the ghost of Peter August (Wes Ramsey)?

In addition, look for the debut of Dean Geyer in his role of Dr. Tristan Roberts (named after the beloved late Tristan Rogers (Robert Scorpio), as he and Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) may have a tense exchange or two.

Then, in the aftermath of their argument, Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) asks Chase (Josh Swickard)Did I push you towards Willow (Katelyn MacMullen)?” Is Chase going to admit his fixation with his ex-wife, or reassure his current wife that he is not interested in Willow? Stay tuned.

Finally, Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) is seen talking to someone saying that the idea of this person filling the 16th seat on the hospital board is a great idea. Who is she talking to?

Check out the official GH spoilers for the week of July 13-17 below.
